Beautifully located, eco-friendly camp with very comfortable well spaced tents, open air bathrooms with running water and steaming hot showers. Godson and his team were incredibly helpful, their warm hospitality made us feel very much at home and they went out their way to make sure that we had everything we needed. A highlight of the trip was sitting on the veranda of the tent watching animals passing by and especially when two elephants came started feeding on the bushes just next to the tent! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend Mdonya Camp. We hope to return again soon!

We had the misfortune of timing our visit (early February 2020) to Mdonya Old River Camp to coincide with extremely wet conditions that meant a large portion of Ruaha National Park was not accessible by vehicle. Fortunately for us, our camp remained open and the accessible areas provided some good wildlife sightings including a surprised cheetah! We had very good elephant encounters and saw quite a few species of birds (the guides and drivers were quite good at bird identification). The accommodations were nice-- a private tent with a king bed and en suite bathroom facilities. We had a circulating fan that was powered by their solar inverter and that system also allowed us to recharge cameras and other electronics in our room. The equipment for doing this was in a small wooden trunk that also served as our "safe". Unfortunately, the layout of the equipment made it somewhat challenging to connect more than one USB cord at a time. I would encourage the management to look into making these charging stations a bit more user friendly. They also offered a charging station at the main office. The food offerings were good and dinner was individually plated meals (not a buffet). They did a good job of addressing special meal needs from the vegetarians in our group. They were also quite accommodating about adjusting the timing of breakfast when we wanted to get out early in the morning. Dinner was served under the stars at a large table with all the guests seated together. That was nice, but be sure to where insect repellant and long pants as I and others in our party suffered a strong attack from nocturnal insects that had a potent bite that itched for several days (no-seeums or sand fleas or chiggers?). We also had pretty heavy tse tse fly numbers during our visit. The drivers and guides were very friendly and knowledgable. We had a few minor communication difficulties with one of them, but his broken English was still vastly superior to our ability to speak Swahili. One of the highlights of the visit was listening to the lions and hyenas during the night-- they were quite close to camp. Another highlight were the Massai who provided escort service between the tents and the communal areas of camp. They were very friendly and entertaining guys! I look forward to visiting Ruaha at a different time of year and would be glad to stay at Mdonya Old River Camp again.

Dear guest Thank you for taking the time to review our camp. We are glad you had a good time with us and yes this year short rain season was especially intense: we have registered more than 1200 mm of rainfall from November until the end February, while the average of the entire season in ruaha is 650 mm! Almost double and not a complete data yet! We will take into consideration your suggestion for a better power station in the tent. Thank you. We look forward to hosting you again! The Mdonya Team

I chose Mdonya Old River Camp as my niece was visiting Africa for the first time ever and I wanted her to experience the real bush and wilderness of Ruaha. All expectations were met and exceeded! Sosten our guide and Gabriel the driver took very good care of us, spotting everything from terrapins and dung beetles to elephants and elands. We learned a lot about the habitats of various species, their characteristics and interactions with other species - not only the animals and birds but also plants and insects. Amazing adventure, over 20 hrs of game drive in 3 days - how can it get any better than that? Mdonya staff and Maasai guards were all very helpful and happy people, and the chef deserves special thanks for creating delicious dinners and packed breakfasts and lunches! Well done Mdonya and thank you!

We booked a three day/two nights fly-in safari trip for two persons to Ruaha National Park with accomodation in Mdonya Old River Camp. Upon arrival at the air strip in Ruaha we were picked up by our guide, Henry, and driver, Thomas, and directly taken on a game drive in the national park. Both were very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Lunch was served at a picnic site and very tasty. In the afternoon we arrived at the camp site and welcomed by the managers Iris and Kings, as well as other staff members. All of them were very welcoming and helpful. Accommodation in the camp was a unique and amazing experience. The location of the camp is stunning - we heard animals of all kinds at night, some of them walking past our tent. However, the massai guards made us feel safe at every moment. The tents were more comfortable and spacious than expected. The outside „bathroom“ had warm water at any time. The food was authentic and very good. Next morning we left early for full day game drive and had breakfast and lunch in the park. Henry and Thomas were great guides and spending the day with them was also really fun - big thanks to them! They spotted even the smallest animals like turtles on the street and owls in the trees. Mixed feelings about Safari in the rain season (of course our own decision). On the one hand it was amazing to see Ruaha very green; on the other hand very difficult to spot animals, because of bushes and trees and had some rain showers every now and then. Thomas and Henry still made amazing effort to show us as many animals as possible and we enjoyed every bit of it.

Dear Louisa and David Thank you for taking the time to review our camp. We are thrilled to read that you enjoyed our camp and its wilderness, got to hear some animals at night and overall enjoyed your stay with us. Ruaha in summer is indeed beautiful and alive again, but flowers and leaves do sometimes make the job more difficult ! However, each season present their challenges and we are glad to read that you still had an amazing time. We will congratulate our staff, chefs, Thomas and Henry for a great performance and we all hope to see you again. The Mdonya Team
