Taking as its muse the glorious bird life of the fabulously soda-encrusted and pink flamingo-fringed Lake Manyara, the swooping curves of this elegantly evocative lodge defy description. As do the soaring views over the Great Rift Valley, the rose-gold sunsets over the Mto Wa Mbu escarpment and the utterly unique tree climbing Lake Manyara lions.

Our initial reaction when we first arrived at the property was very negative. When we got to our room, we realised that the fan, telephone and WiFi did not work. The bathroom was extremely small with an old-style plastic curtain. This is not what we would have expected from a luxury property. There are four rooms per bungalow and like its sister properties we visited, the rooms are on the smaller side for a luxury lodge and more hotel-like.

When we complained, the staff took this very seriously and immediately moved us to another room with a better bathroom and left us warm nuts and crisps to snack on.
Unfortunately the WiFi went in and out while were there. Sometimes due to the WiFi being unstable, other times due to power cuts from the local provider which are out of the property’s control. They do turn on the generator when this happens, but there is some lag time.
We really enjoyed the food at this property. The food was exceptional, the bar menu extensive and the drinks made very well. We don’t think it fully lived up to a 5 star, but it earned its way back to a 4 star with the very attentive staff and management, who quickly tried to make amends. It had a beautiful pool and views of Lake Manyara. It is located just outside of Lake Manyara, which means there are limited mosquitoes and no tsetse flies.

I would like to start this post off by saying thank you to the staff at the Serena Safari Lodge in Lake Maynara. I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for luxury accommodation as well as great food.

We are very picky and like fine dining, the lodge offered us the fine dining and high quality food options along with great service from the staff. Shoutout to the staff who were wonderful and especially the chef as we really enjoyed the food, the chef even came out to say hello while we were at dinner.

The property: Beautiful property, very clean. There will be bugs, it is Africa, but I would like to say the hotel did quite a good job at keeping rooms and spaces extremely clean along with keeping bugs away. I liked the open air feel to the lodge. Beautiful views and beautiful pool. I like to stay active and keep fit, but there is no gym at this property, they do have a football field where you can run around though.

The room: I liked the design and aura of the room, we had good air circulation and were not hot although there is no air conditioning. The bathroom was nice as well as the shower. I did not think the beds were that comfortable (a little hard). This could be improved. One thing that I absolutely loved -> the aloe body lotion in the bathroom. The smell was amazing and it is a great lotion to have especially when you are in the hot sun all day and want to make sure that your skin is soothed.

Food: Amazing amazing amazing. Tastes were great. The breakfast was so delicious along with the dinner. Great options for all types of foodies. Foodies and food lovers will definitely love this lodge as well as any Serena lodge (they do an amazing job on dining).

I would also like to say the dining room staff were very attentive, right when we walked into the dining room they would greet us and show us to our table.

Serena resorts and lodges are one of the oldest and most established luxury lodges out there and it would be very rare for me not to stay with them when I visit the wild parks.

I wish I could get some more of the lotion in the bathroom for at home! Cannot wait to stay with Serena again in the future. I would also like to note that everywhere it may show that this is officially a 3 star hotel, but it is much more like a 4 or 5 star hotel and guests from the US including myself I am sure would enjoy it as I did.

Kudos to the staff of this resort and thank you for making our stay here so great.

From the moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty. The staff went above and beyond to make sure that our every need was attended to. The property was very clean, well-sanitized and well guarded with security officers on regular patrol. The view from the patio dining overlooking Lake Manyara was breathtaking! The service was impeccable and the food far exceeded my expectations. The shower was hot with great water pressure and the pool was kept pristine so we enjoyed a cool dip each afternoon after a long day. At the end of the week, we felt like we were leaving good friends. Would definitely stay here again - worth every penny!

This was our first stay of the three Serena hotels during our safari trip in November 2022. We stayed here for 3 nights. Upon arrival, we were greeted with hot hand towels and a fruit drink from the friendly staff. I have a phobia of any kind of insects before coming to this trip. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find the room was very clean and free of insects as I was told the hotel staff sprayed each room with bug repellents twice a day. There was always a staff nearby to walk us to the dining area at night time. Our room had a full view of the lake which was a plus. The only thing I would like to have had was more variety in the dinner menu. Breakfast was provided with fresh fruits and tropical drinks and a variety of hot dishes. The bed net was a bit torn in some area but it did the job. My main concern was my insect issue and this hotel provided me peaceful nights of sleep without worries.

We had a two-night stay at Manyara Serena Safari Lodge, located on the escarpment facing Lake Manyara, in July 2023, and it was absolutely amazing. We were accommodated in a cottage, which had a spacious and impeccably clean room with a scenic balcony providing a stunning view of the lake. The room was equipped with a full mosquito net, hot shower, flushed toilet, electrical charger, and Wifi. The atmosphere was truly unique with its African architecture. During our stay, we delighted in the breakfast options available at the restaurant, which included both continental and Swahili buffet breakfasts. Additionally, while out on our day tours, we were provided with a delicious three-course lunch by our safari guide. The dining experience at the lodge was exceptional, with themed setups each night and a wide variety of wine and beverage options to choose from. After dinner, we were personally escorted back to our rooms and also had the opportunity to witness a fantastic evening acrobatic show performed by the lodge staff.

This was our first stop during our safari through Tanzania. It is located on the escarpment facing Lake Manyara, and it was amazing. It was a short drive from Lake Manyara National Park. The staff was very friendly, warm, and welcoming, and everything was clean and organized. The room was equipped with a full mosquito net, hot shower, flushed toilet, electrical charger and Wi-Fi. The atmosphere was truly unique with its African architecture. It was warm for a dip in the gorgeous pool, and we did enjoy drinks on the patio above it. The dinner buffet had options for everyone. I really do not like being charged for water with dinner. During our stay, we delighted in the breakfast options available at the restaurant, which included both continental and Swahili buffet breakfasts. We also had lunch at the restaurant, though there were limited options.

Have you heard of the expression “You never get a second chance to make a good first impression?”

When we first arrived at the Lake Manyara Lodge we waited patiently in line for our turn to check in. When it was our turn the front desk elderly man started to check us in but seemed to struggle finding our reservation and using the computer. He actually lost my friends passport in the pike of paper in front of him. Then before he has finished with us another customer came up to the counter to check in and he stopped checking us in and started checking him in. I expressed my dissatisfaction with what was going on and so did our safari operator and he finally passed the second guy off to another staff member who promptly checked in the other guy. BTW- the other guy got checked in before us.

No WIFI in our room and it took 2 calls to the front desk to be told it was not working and offer to move rooms. Ended up moving from one end of the complex to the other. Took a long time for someone to come to help move our luggage. Second room WIFI was marginal.

Locks on room doors are a joke and provide no security. They obviously have had security issues as we were told by multiple people to be sure to keep all valuables in the safe.

Evening buffet supper was below average.

I enjoyed my stay at this spectacularly situated lodge overlooking the valley which is best appreciated from the pool , outside bar area, and dining area. The evening entertainment by a local group was very enjoyable. Meals were fine but the bartender outside didn't make the correct drink I was charged for( fortunately the inside bartender saw his mistake and remedied the situation). Also be aware that a "single" room is one in which there are two twin beds

We are a couple on a 12 day private safari. Arrived today at a very nice hotel with beautiful views. Recommended by our long time travel agent. We are staying 2 nights and also want to enjoy some privacy while eating. Now there is a large group of Indian tourists here who respect nothing but themselves. They have already attracted negative attention in the afternoon in the national park: loud and rugged they do not even respect the wildlife and certainly not other tourists.
Now we arrive here at the hotel for dinner and have to ask for a seat, because all employees are fixated on the Indian tour group. We get our table in the middle of the active and noisy tour group. Even a large part of the buffet is focused on Indian cuisine. This is not what we expect on a private safari. We travel to many countries and to learn about their culture and culinary. We also don't expect to get raclette, fondue and rösti for dinner in Tanzania.
So, unfortunately, we will have to give the feedback to our various travel organizers that for future individual private trips, it is better to choose another hotel in the same category that better accommodates individual travelers.
I only hope that the Ngorongoro Serena Lodge, which belongs to the same group and which we will visit in two days, will be populated by the same group.
