One of the most relaxing and enjoyable holidays of my life! The Tamatert Guest House is situated at the top of the village - approximately 1.5km from the village centre. The elevated position of the guest house has spectacular views of the village and Atlas Mountains (by far the best views of any accommodation in town). Although fairly basic, the guest house had everything we required (peace and quiet, hot water and a place to sleep). Our host Hassan was the incredibly kind and generous - nothing was too much trouble... freshly cooked meals at times to suit us, unlimited mint tea at no extra cost... he even helped us book a local guide and looked after our luggage whilst we went off trekking in the Atlas Mountains for 4 days during the middle of our stay. Thank you Hassan! We Look forward to visiting again. Brad and Morgan (Wales, UK)

Unlike most visitors to this incredibly beautiful spot in the Atlas Mountains (right at the foot of the mountains of Imlil, some of the highest points in Africa), I have not come here as a tourist but as a family member with concerns on my mind about my Moroccan goddaughter, with whom I am setting up a European/Moroccan cultural exchange project. Let’s just say I came over at a time of considerable stress with a lot of problems to sort out. But the owner Mohamed, head cook Hassan and their staff have taken me straight to their Berber hearts & treated me like a member of the family, always supplying me with plentiful breakfasts and delicious Tagines and making a wonderful fire every night to warm my bones. More than that, they were right there beside me when the problems started mounting and threatening to get out of control, really helping me prevent them from becoming overwhelming and developing into a crisis. I am so happy that I’ve had a chance to see this incredible beauty spot for myself, but... without their help, far from appreciating it, I could have found myself sinking beneath a whole raft of seemingly insurmountable problems! It’s people like Mohamed & his staff that opened my heart to the genuine & warm Berber people of Morocco in the first place, I am so grateful they have renewed my faith & can’t recommend this place highly enough. (It also has some amazing views as you may see from some of the pictures I have taken.)

My brother and I stayed here for a night in January and were met with a warm welcome. The guesthouse is clean and spacious with large communal areas, a beautiful balcony and a large rooftop terrace. The little we paid for dinner turned out to be a vast banquet, fit to satiate the most hungry of hiker. We relaxed with good wifi in front of a roaring fire and slept in warm beds despite the -1 degree outside temperature. They even let us leave the car with them for a few hours the next day while we hiked. To top it all off? Warm showers.

Tamatert Guest House was the perfect place to begin my trek up Jbel Toubkal, and the perfect place to end it. The owner, Hassan, is warm, welcoming, and genuine. He's a wealth of knowledge about the village and the mountain and you can glean a few little tips and tricks about the mountain or get set up with a (required) local guide. His house is the most peaceful place I've stayed at in months of traveling, and his tajine was one of the two best I ate in all Morocco. The night before I began my trek, I showed up at Hassan's house in Tamatert, a small village right outside of Imlil. It's a little out of the way, and that's a good thing. The door to my room opened to a balcony with a stunning view of the valley below, the mountains, and the villages that dotted both of them. There was a small table where I sat down to take in the view and read a little while I thought about my trek, and Hassan brought me a pot of mint tea to sip on while he cooked up a couple of tajines for the few of us at the house. It felt like a proper mountain lodge, with polished knotty wood railing on the balcony and thick wool blankets on a comy full sized bed. I stashed my things in the storage room before I began my trek. When I came down from the mountain the next afternoon I got to hang out for another hour and take a warm shower, rest my feet, repack my backpack, and drink another mint tea on the balcony. I loved staying there, and would have spent an extra day there unwinding from the climb if I had the time and forsight to plan it.

We were greeted with a warm welcome upon exiting the taxi and experienced fantastic hospitality throughout our stay. The room we stayed in was comfortable, clean and refreshingly cool in comparison to the outside summer heat. We enjoyed the homemade Moroccan meals on the terrace looking across the Atlas Mountains. Tamatert Guesthouse made for an excellent stop in Imlil before and after climbing Toubkal.
