VERY DISAPPOINTING HOTEL... clearly the management are at fault here. I feel sympathy for the staff as they have not received the training to the level you would expect – when under the ownership of One&Only it was a professionally run hotel, not anymore sadly... Please do reconsider staying at Shangri-La as we were just one of the many disappointed customers. With such wonderful hotels on the island spend your holiday and cash wisely... Sadly when shown to the bedroom I had to call housekeeping as there were finger prints on the toilet seat and on the above wall which was quite shocking - however to be fair a bottle of wine was delivered as an apology. We would wake early every morning with light coming through the wooden shutters which are of poor design – where are the luxury curtains/voiles you would expect to see? One should be woken when you wake rather than at the crack of dawn. On arrival the we were not offered a smile let alone a welcome drink of water.. The staff were confused and hesitant, I take it they were apprentices left to work to their own devices, sadly not a great first impression and again disappointing. The restaurants were limiting and soon discovered we not able to dine in any of the chosen restaurants for at least the 3rd or 4th day following arrival. The alternative was a cafe style buffet with just a glimpse of the sea, noisy and dare I say basic in style and decor. The beach restaurant offered a limited menu for both lunch and dinner, and of a small portions - the lunch salads were basic and not at all appetising - one evening I ordered a steak for dinner which was tough, over cooked and merely lacking finesse, how much can you take before giving up... The restaurant manager was informed but he did not want to listen - he stated he had tried it and all was fine. I feel that his bully boy tactics were inappropriate and a another excuse for lack of training from senior management. The Hibiscus beach front rooms were isolated and quite a walk with no beach bars to enjoy a cocktail nearby – you were offered water on the beach only. Then in the afternoon; the sun disappeared- hidden behind the buildings, it was literally chilly on the beach, with many despondent customers like ourselves there is an urgent need to address these issues. We approached the hotel manager and requested a release from the hotel given the escalation of events, we were unhappy and could not imagine staying another day, he sympathised and agreed – it was a great moment as we were able to book our favourite hotel on the island - The Paradis which is a professionally run hotel and what a welcome we received following by an amazing stay in a beach front suite and a friendly beach bar nearby, served with a smile… Shape up Shangri-La management as the presents standards are not acceptable.

Hotel's Favorite
I have just enjoyed 2 ½ weeks at the Shangri-La Le Touessrok. Location. The location is out of this world. On a beautiful long beach. My tour guide (Summer-Times Tours) told me, that the hotel is situated on the longest “hotel beach” of all the hotels in the country. Preparing my arrival – Front office staff support I bet both parties felt challenged. I planned my visit in connection with the re-opening og Mauritius, on the back of the Covid lock down. Regardless of the need to ask too many questions, to be safe and prepared for an arrival to another country, the Front Office staff replied patiently and correctly regarding all national admin requirements for foreigners arriving to Mauritius. Fitness facilities. If you are looking for great fitness facilities, which are not stock in a basement or dark corner, this very well-equipped Fitness Centre is overlooking a pool area and has large windows allowing for natural light to flow in. Often debated amongst female guests as a “safe fitness centre”. You do not feel alone, you are not stock in a basement room. Very important. The Fitness Management offers fitness classes throughout the day from early morning. All classes run by professional trained staff. Let me say, on a personal note; Dominique, who was my 07.00 hours trainer made me feel 10 years younger, even though he did one day tell me to stop. “Relaxing is also important” – he is right, still his professionalism makes me smile. SPA The SPA is a nice tranquil area with great staff, who pays attention and soon “reads” their guests’ needs, requirements and wishes. Professional all the way through. Dietary requirements The Chef of “The Republic” restaurant has made sure; I will return next year. I require a daily protein smoothie as part of my battle against an inflammatory condition. I brought my collagen and protein to the restaurant, a smoothie was prepared for me at NO hesitation, served with a wonderful smile – every time! (I wish I could do with the great menu offered, I cannot, and no one made me feel awkward once they had information on my requirements. On the contrary, everyone tried to make me comfortable, regardless of me feeling very humble. I look at the nutritional value of my food before I look to the “fine dining” aspect. I can glance at a plate of food and instantly calculate if it meets my daily needs in terms of protein, fibre, vitamins, and minerals. I cannot do “fine dining” for weeks on end. Hence the arrival of very impressive vegetarian dished combining plant protein and fibres had a significant impact on my wellbeing. It also made me confident, a longer stay in 2022 will work well. (I have booked already). I am incredibly grateful and humbled by all the efforts made by The Culinary Director and The Chef at “The Republic.” I can fill a page with words of gratitude. General At hotels, there is often one or two staff, who does not make the mark. NOT here! I am humbled and impressed with all the efforts made by the staff. All your staff goes beyond the call of duty to make each guest feel, we are the only one that matters, the special one, and that is quite the skill. It takes efforts and energy, which all your staff gladly invest in their interaction with guests. I am booked – all this trouble (me) is coming back, I can hardly wait.

My husband and I just enjoyed the most fabulous holiday at the Shangri-La. Everything from the service to the Decore was amazing. A few special shout outs go to Stefan and Yaz on the beach who were always smiling and there to provide excellent service. The beach bar and happy hour was run extremely well and the staff were always so welcoming especially Roshan and Vimal and all the lovely boys. We enjoyed some exquisite meals at the resort. Special mention to chef Harry D in Kushi restaurant who made the most phenomenal vegetarian sushi and food. Every time we visited we didn’t want to see a menu we would just ask him to surprise us and he did that very well. Chef Bobby and Ahmed were also amazing we enjoyed many lovely meals at the buffet which had everything from Indian, sushi, Chinese, pancake station literally anything you could think of. Everyone at the Shangri-La was so welcoming and helpful we enjoyed what we can call a second honeymoon and will be in a rush to come back soon. Duty manager Thierry was very helpful and able to assist us with whatever we needed. The rooms were lovely and spacious we had a suite which opened up onto the beach. Every night there was wonderful live music show which created a sensational atmosphere. I would like to thank each and every member at the Shangri-La for giving us the holiday of a lifetime. See you soon.

Le Touessrok has a long solid reputation in Mauritius. Definitely the most picture perfect hotel and the only one which has its own private island with restaurant. I was surprised when I arrived that despite the fresh coat of paint, that the hotel was a bit dated, hence my 4 stars. That is probably the only downside of this hotel. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Any suggestions/feedback are acted upon promptly. Clientele care is prime. Mr Sunil and Thierry looked after us really well. I very much enjoyed the food, with my favourite is Bazaar. The breakfast and dinner offers a great variety and the chefs/staff creates such a nice ambiance. The chefs and his team are wonderful though. I enjoyed my daily chat to Ahmed. A special thank you to Yannick for my juices/avocados/fruits. And the breakfast waiters/waitresses (Dharam - fantastic , Nicole,Bool, Martine and so many lovely staff to mention) are the best. I had far too many pastries and ice-cream. The kids club is such a happy place. The kids club itself is again, dated. However Brigite and her team provide such an incredible service. My children love the kids club, always wanting to go there. I also had a hotel nanny there. Our room was well kept, thank you Ayesha and housekeeping team. Definitely going back, in the meantime I will reminisce on the beautiful surroundings, my moments at Bazaar, chatting to staff, Jhummun at pool and kids club.
