Literally got back from Le Cardinal resort & Spa, a small boutique hotel. On arrival we knew this was going to be one of the best hotels we have had holidayed at from first instincts. From checking in a bit earlier than we should have, and they still got our room ready in 15 minutes, and what an amazing vista from all the rooms. The rooms themselves were very spacious and done to a high spec. They had the usual tea/coffee utilities, and the room attendant brings you 2 bottles of water each day. There is a mini bar but beware you have to pay for anything you take. There is a large shower with monsoon shower head and very good and fast. We had the Junior suite room 2004 which also had a large round bath which took an eternity to fill but worth it. The room attendant even popped back while we were at evening meal to fold our sheets down, which was a nice touch. You also get beach towels that you can take on trips with you, so no need to take your own.
Dining: We arrived in the morning so was not entitled to breakfast ( it all works out in the end) but was offered tea/coffee and cakes. So what you do is as it is a la carte, you order whatever breakfast you want in the morning. When you have finished then one of the waiting staff brings you the lunchtime menu, and also the evening menu. You then choose your options and there are some lovely choices. There are some meals on the menu with a supplement though. The wine is nice if you like it, but if not there are other choices of drink. If you did not fancy anything on the menu you are allowed to eat at their sister hotel across the road which is 3 star, but we did not need to.
This is where I usually mention the staff names that excelled, but in this instance every single member of staff were absolutely brilliant, helpful and also very friendly and as the hotel only has 13 rooms it was like a family affair.
The beach is nice and you can walk both ways if you want to exercise, or if not just chill on the beach where the sunbeds are reserved for Le Cardinal guests, and the security do enforce this. There is some good snorkelling about 50 metres from the beach, with a good variety of fish to see.
So to summarize this was such a relaxing holiday and as it was only 13 rooms it did not seem hectic like in some larger hotels. We would definitely stay here again if we return to Mauritius. And thanks to all that work there to make everyone,s stay a special one.

After a long flight we were delighted to receive such a warm and friendly welcome. First impressions count and we were pleasantly surprised by the spacious room which had a real colonial feel and was capped off with a lovely balcony that had views over the pool, gardens and beach.

All meals were a la carte, including breakfast and despite having only 13 rooms the menu changed daily with a great selection of meals to choose from. Every meal was excellent and made more enjoyable with the outstanding table service from very attentive staff.

The Hotel was advertised as being on the beach and in fact the beach was so close to the main hotel that the complimentary WiFi worked whilst on the sunbeds.

No problem getting sunbeds at any time of the day and the bar staff made regular checks to see if drinks were required and delivered to your sunbed.

The requirement for gents to wear long trousers in the restaurant in the evening may not be to everyone’s liking but it did add to the overall atmosphere and maintain the standards associated with a first class restaurant.

There can be little doubt that whilst all aspects of the hotel were first class the quality and general attentiveness of the staff was the glue that pulled the overall experience together.

Our first time to Mauritius and without doubt the Cardinal will be top of our of list when we return.

Our experience with this hotel was fantastic. Upon arrival, you will immediately be pampered by the hospitable staff with a towel to refresh you and a welcome drink. This line is continued during the entire stay: you will be spoiled with a beautiful, luxurious room in an equally luxurious and small-scale hotel that exudes tranquility (and is actually very quiet). The staff are incredibly friendly and hospitable. The food was also great: from breakfast to dinner, everything was taken care of down to the last detail, with table service and a full menu each time (also vegetarian). All the (included) extras were a bonus: a duo massage, a cocktail at sunset, a romantic dinner, perfect WiFi in the room... I can't name a single downside. Amazing experience!

I stayed with my family at this resort the week of New Year's Eve and the following week. I must say that the swimming pool is small but nice, the garden is well looked after and the beach is a private piece of one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. The sea is beautiful but it would be better to have shoes because the seabed is full of rock and coral. It's just a shame that the cushions on the sunbeds are very dirty and it's better not to know (and not see as happened to me) where they put them in the evening... The staff is very friendly both at the reception and in the restaurant where, however, if the 'older' waiters are missing, the younger ones go haywire and become even slower than usual and often don't bring you exactly the things you ask for or they get the wrong ones. orders (I asked for a toothpick they brought me an espresso which I even had to pay for 😂). The food is presented well and I would say that I ate reasonably well all 15 days... of course we know, we Italians are very difficult to please when it comes to food!! Let's move on to the sore point... THE ROOM!!!! Cleanliness is practically absent or not received, at the end of the holiday I had more sand under my bed than the entire coast despite my repeated complaints!!! I didn't have a drain cover on the shower and one morning, after a night of bad weather, I found a cockroach hanging around near the hole. In the baseboards Under the bedside tables there were three inches of dust. There's no point in having a beautiful terrace with a breathtaking view if you can't access it because it's dirty and the parapet completely full of dust and sand that you couldn't lean on or even lay out a towel (which was important given that there wasn't any not even a drying rack, at least the classic ones that all hotels now have, on the wall). The first week I never had towels in my room, both those for washing and those for the beach which I was assured I would find in the room every day. Every day I had to call the reception to have them brought to me and they often arrived at least an hour after the call. But I mean... was it so difficult to put two face towels (one for the sink) and 4 body towels every day? Yes, you understand so because either we couldn't find them at all or they always put in less than we needed. The beach ones were sometimes delivered to me in the morning still damp and smelly. Following my complaint to a so-called manager, the second week went a little better but the lack of cleanliness and the almost lack of towels in the room practically remained. The resort would have great potential but left too much management to the locals, who have standards of cleanliness and management very different from our Europeans, it deserves a maximum of 3 stars…. Too bad they charge like an exclusive 5 star resort!!!!

Coming to the end of an incredible week staying at La Cardinal, a hotel which has totally surpassed my expectations. The five star reviews do not do the place justice! It has a perfect location on the beach front, with very easy access to the sea, whilst the small number of rooms means it remains quiet and peaceful. The food is some of the best I have ever tasted at a hotel, each night we have tried something different and it has all been superb, particularly the fish and seafood dishes. Shiva, the team and the chefs are what really make the place special.

For those who want entertainment after dinner, the Causarina over the road has it (it is part of the same chain, with the same great staff) but we were happy to stay listening to the sound of waves lapping against the shore.

We stayed at Le Cardinal for 6 nights, I did a lot of research to find the right hotel on a great beach and it exceeded my expectations. Everything about the hotel is amazing. The rooms were large with wifi, streaming services on the TV, a massive bathroom with walk in shower and plenty of storage. The beach is postcard perfect and has decent sunbeds for use by hotel guests. We mostly spent the days on the beach then late afternoon in the pool which was lovely and warm. The best thing about this hotel was the service. Every breakfast and dinner was an experience. Breakfast felt like a 3 course meal and dinner was fine dining. The food was of a high standard and Shiva and the whole team were very attentive and friendly. We felt very well looked after. With it being a small hotel all the staff knew us by name, what we liked to drink, we haven’t stayed at a place with that personal touch in a long time and that really made the time special for us. I will be recommending this hotel to everyone I know and hope to return.

We arrived on the Friday morning/early afternoon, about an hour and fifteen minute transfer in private car ( big longer return journey as had a couple pick ups to do) got to hotel and the lady at reception sat down with us, went through how the hotel operates for meals etc.
Got shown to our room on the first floor, lovely corner suite, circular bath in the middle which was nice but at 6’3 wasn’t very practical for me but did try it.
To the left was large shower, 2 sinks and the wardrobe/dressing area and toilet through a sliding door. Other apse of the room was a large comfy bed, setee and balcony which was lovely to sit on morning of night.
Through the reception area is the restaurant, to the pool and down into the beach where the hotel has reserved sunbeds just for the hotels guests, which are covered by a security guard to watch over bags etc. comfy sunbeds only a few meters from the ocean which was lovely to swim in although a bit coral on entry ( Recommended slip on beach shoes)
Locally produced drinks are available from the bar just before you go to the beach.
Breakfast was fruit, yogurt, eggs of your choice, sausage, bacon etc, toast, pastries, cereal, you’re asked what you’d like and it’s freshly cooked for you, tea, coffee juices as well. After breakfast you’re asked to choose lunch and dinner, pizza, burger, panini, chicken skewers and desserts.
Dinner there’s always a daily special which you can mix and match from the normal menu. We were never disappointed, and the dinner food was outstanding, restaurant quality every time. The staff play a huge part of this hotel, Daniel, Raza and the others, didn’t get all names were so attentive, polite, helpful and friendly no matter what time of day. There’s a sister hotel across the road which you can use, we didn’t eat there as it was way busier than le cardinal. The gym was adequate for a good workout, mulitgym and a rack of free weights, couple benches, treadmills and bikes.
There’s a man called VJ who we booked a couple trips with, you’ll find him on the beach, value for money trips and well organised. I’d definitely recommend this hotel for rest and relaxation, very quiet but was very welcoming, I’d deffo return 🇲🇺✈️

Me and my partner had the most amazing holiday and that is because of the wonderful experience we had at Le Cardinal. The location and beach are perfect! Always available sunbeds and the white sands and clear water are so beautiful. I would recommend always staying down on the beach until sunset because most nights it was the most amazing view!

The room was lovely, spacious, clean and the views from the balcony were incredible each morning. The fact that the hotel is only 13 rooms is one of the reasons we loved it so much - it was always so chilled and relaxing with the option to go across to the sister hotel to enjoy things like evening entertainment. The food is absolutely delicious and every meal is clearly freshly made! You choose your lunch and dinner each morning at breakfast which was something we were unsure about before - but we would now struggle to go to buffet style all inclusive because of the quality of the food we ate here! Especially the desserts!

The staff are ALL wonderful and were one of the many highlights of our trip! They were so welcoming from the start and take time to get to know you, chat to you each day and help you with anything you need. Special mention to Mihir who cleaned our room everyday and came to see us every evening to switch beach towels and get the room ready for the night- he really couldn't do enough for us, was always so friendly and we loved chatting to him every evening. You will not regret choosing this hotel and we don't say this often but this is a place we will definitely be returning to!

Wonderful paradise stay: white sand and coconut trees with turquoise water lagoon 10 m from the suite, the room, garden and beach are extremely well maintained, in a secure environment. A cuisine worthy of a gourmet restaurant, all served by a smiling, friendly and always attentive team.
Looking forward to staying again!

Just come back from this fantastic hotel. The staff are so dedicated, friendly, welcoming and very professional too. The cleaning by Mihir and Rakesh was immaculate. In all our years of travelling to different countries and hotels this has been by far the best cleaning of room we have ever had. Thank you Mihir and Rakesh for your dedication and prompt response whenever we needed anything for the room. Keep up the great work!!

The restaurant staff Tauckoor, Daniel, Dinoo, Istaaq, Axel and Simi were again very welcoming, very accommodating. It was a real pleasure to go into the restaurant for our meals and seeing their welcoming and smiling faces. There is as not a buffet like in most hotels but the ala carte food was amazingly delicious and very well presented. Thank you chefs!

Thank you to Khushboo who was there if wevhadvxny problems (which we didn’t). But knowing that she as there if we did was reassuring.
Fiona and Naina from reception were very welcoming, knowledgeable and professional! Always helpful and smiling. You’re both amazing people!

The gardeners, the maintenance team all are very dedicated and professional! They go about their work in a very professional manner without disruption to the guests.

The rooms are excellent, have everything that you could possibly need.

To any staff member that I have missed out and if I did not get the names, each and everyone of you are amazing and dedicated to the running of the hotel at over and above and above anyone could imagine or expect.
Thank you so so much to the whole team of Le Cardinal.
