Detailed Reviews
I have just returned from my 2 week honeymoon at the Indian Resort, and what more can I say other than it was perfect.
The staff were very friendly and made a real effort to talk to you and make conversation.
The accommodation was top class and we felt like we didn't lift a finger from the moment we got there until the moment we left.
The rooms were spacious and clean and the maid came into the room more than twice a day to tidy and turn down the beds etc. which we were very impressed at.
The location was very secluded (which is what we were looking for), and not totally sports orientated as previous reviews indicated. We were based in the Privilege rooms which were located at the opposite end to the water sports area and were very nice.
The food was brilliant, fresh fish every day and a different pasta dish as well, fresh veg and salad, and well the desserts were lovely.
Would definitely return to the Indian Resort.

My wife and i had booked at the Indian Resort for week commencing 9th sept 2006. We read the review that someone had written on the 15th august with dismay and where extreemly concerned about what our stay may be like.
We nead not have taken any notice of this extreemly bad review.
When we arrived we where greated by Kevin the head of Public relations at the resort. We where immediately put at ease and treated like special people. We where given a choice of room and told that if we had any problems we must phone kevin straight away. We found our room to be very large with a seperate bathroom/dressing room with a seperate room for the wc. Our only complaint was the shower which was not working properly. We reported this and within 10minutes three people came to look at the problem and within the half hour a new shower head had been fitted. The only fault in the apartment was the shower cubical which neaded re grouting or tiling.
We stayed for 16days and i must say that the service we experienced was 5* . The staff could not do enough to please us.
We where there on an all inclusive package. We where told what this meant when we arrived by Kevin. All inclusive drinks that are allowed at the bars are marked with a * on the drinks list displayed at the bars. We had a good choice in that there was one well known brand of each spirit to choose from such as Napoleon brandy and Gilbys gin. All soft drinks are inclusive and the local beer Phoenix is like Stella and quite strong. There were certain liquers to choose and a full range of alcholic and non alcoholic cocktails. There was a choice of three wines on the house : white, red and rosa. The wines we where told where from South Africa and bottled in mauritius. They where of very high standard for house wines.
The food we would rate three star for the all inclusive but when we tried the Al A carte we would rate that as 5*. All inclusive food
got a bit boring and i was surprised at the lack of shell fish dishes. However there was grilled fish every evening to choose from.
We had floral displays put on our table every night since we always prebooked our table in the restaurants.
The Spar is excellent one of the best ive been to for therapies.
My masseur Sandeep was ecellent and made me completely relax. The only fault with the spa management is that they have a rule that says you can use the spa facilities including luxury loungers around the pool if you book a treatment that day. However they dont allow your partner to have this free access if they dont book a treatment as well. I think this was a bit petty considering the cost of treatments.
Entertainment in the evening was good however it repeated itself weekly and i think the entertainment manager could improve by arranging a two week programme.
Overall we had a wonderful holiday and we would like to thank all the staff there who made it possible.
The sports facilities are superb. There are international events for Kite surfing at this resort and therefore there is usually a strong breeze. Many trees are planted between the sea and the resort to act as a wind break and this works well.
We booked through Mercury Direct in the UK and i must say they organised things very well for us. There was always a personal escort at the airport both ways which was very useful. The flights where with Emirates Birmigham to Dubai and Dubai to Mauritius.
this is a great airline to fly with. Excellent food, free drinks except for champagne and lots of leg room.
If you have booked this hotel and read about bad experiences then my advice is to ignore them and make your own judgement when you arrive.
Thanks Mercury for a wonderful holiday.

We stayed at the Indian Resort and Spa in the Middle of June.
The Hotel was clean and tidy in general good value for money. We were also very lucky with the weather as it is the winter season in Mauritius. We were there for 11 days and there were only 2 days where we could relax by the pool or beach as it was overcast and quite chilly.
Bad Points:
We upgraded to a Sea View room before we flew out but to be honest it wasn’t really worth the extra money as the view of the sea was mainly blocked by palm trees. Furthermore the brochure boasts that every room has some sort of view of the Sea so I would take your chances.
The nightly entertainment was average and all very 'samey'. The same band played the same songs most nights and I hope I don't offend anyone here but the nightly entertainment seemed to be aimed at the older clientele.
We went all inclusive and quite a lot of the drinks were not included in the AI package. For example any wine other than the house which, especially the house white was not very good at all.
We were under the impression from websites that had detailed the AI package at the Indian Resort Spa that the mini bar in the room was included. However when we got there it turned out you had to pay extra for everything in there.
The food was in general very good but some nights they had hardly anything for vegetarians. This is more of a personal thing and to be honest this is a general problem for me and not specific to this hotel! Also I had a couple of bad experiences where food was advertised as being vegetarian but in fact contained meat or fish.
Good Points:
The staff were incredibly friendly and service in general was excellent.
The food was above average for an All Inclusive resort. If you are a big fish eater (which unfortunately we both aren't) then according to people we had met you will be extremely happy with the food! The Indian restaurant was particularly good although you had to pay extra unless you had the standard.
We made use of the Spa facilities and that was excellent. We both had a massage and then got to use the pool, sauna etc. free for the rest of the day and we were really impressed with that.
The Watersports were very good and the snorkelling just a few meteres off the beach was fantastic.
The hotel was generally clean and tidy and the room was quite large and cleaned every day.
The location and views of the mountain was excellent and we were lucky as it wasn’t too busy when we went so even though it is quite a large resort you got the impression of it being much smaller and intimate.
In general I would recommend this as a value for money break to Mauritius but just be aware of the hidden extra's if you go All Inclusive!

We stayed at the Indian Resort between 18/5/05 and 1/6/05.Having found very little information about the hotel from this or other review sites, we felt compeled to add this hotel to the list.
The hotel rates its self 4 1/2*.The rooms where plesant and comfortable although not large, mini bar,TV(mainly french chanels),a little short on clothes storage space (because we always take to much, take a travel iorn the hotel didnt have any).It is a very long hotel ,360 ish rooms,if you have trouble walking you should ask for a centraly located room, if you are into the water sports, you need to be at the west end of the hotel.
The hotel has a Mistral Windsurf and Skyrider Kite Surf school on site, you can rent or have tuition at a cost. The facilities for these are 1st class. All new equipment, one of the windiest spots on the island, warm shallow waters.I usually find that good water sports facilities do not go together with good hotels , this place changed that.
The hotel does have a limited amount of windsurf/hobi/sunfish and kyak equipment inc for guests, but the gear offerd by Mistral is well worth paying the extra. Water sking is limited to a short run with just a 2hr window at high tide as a result you have to que if conditions are good, The ski boat is not upto 'Sandles' standard, the 115hp motor had difficulty getting a mono skier out of the water.
There is also a good PADI dive center at resonable prices.
The food was good throught are stay, but the menues in the alacart restraunts for AI or HB guests was limited or additional charges applied. The buffet was more casual but still good. Some guests did complain about the standard of some of the food in the French restraunt. Our one minor complaint was the dress code given but not applied by the hotel,no shorts and t shirts for dinner, which seemed to be ignored by alot of guests.
If you are concidering a AI package this only gives you lunch, beer, local spirts, house wine and soft drinks. A beer is about 80R (£1.60) rum and coke about 220R. (Be warned that Mauritian Rum is not like carabean rum).Given that a snack for lunch was about £6, a limited Buffet £12 you can work out yourself if the AI package is worth the extra, given that if you want a drink and it isnt on the AI list you will pay anyway.
The staff where fantastic, Mauritian people are very friendly any way.
The grounds, beach and pools are lovely,be warned though that this is a windy spot and some days the beach was not the best place to sit, given the limitted space around the pools this may be a problem high season. The seem to have gone over the top on planting trees, true the hotel is well hiden, but the do block the evening sun in thier winter.
The hotel is located at the south west tip of the island, if you want to explore hire a car for 2 days splitting the island into two halfs , its to much to get round in one day. There is not a fanastic amount of tourist visitor sites to go too , but that in its self can be good if you want to see the country.
Overall an excellent holiday on our second trip to Mauritius.

The concept of the hotel is real nice - great sport with 4+ stars hotel, however beware, it is not a 4+ hotel!
The hotel itself is well made, beautiful site and placed at one of the best wind surfing spot of the island. The hotel sponsors a few sport events which does create a nice mood at time. I did try the hotel many times since the sport events were my priority everytime, but I would have prefered another hotel.
Most of the facilities and service are ok, but there are a few very bad points that ruin it all.
- Part of the hotel, not far from the restaurant, smell terrible (like sewers). On complaining, we were told it was due to the sewer facility that was the cause and that it was temporary. Anyway even after almost a year. when I got back there again, it was still as bad.
- The food seems good, but I get sick everytime afterwards and I was NOT the only one. Many got sick. Ok maybe we have sensible stomachs.
- Supposely a wind surfing paradise hotel, but the equipments in the hotel are of the lowest grade ever. Better to shell out some more bucks to rent equipments to the schools right beside. Hotel cannot credit from it since it is an independent school and it is not included in the hotel package.
- Management are not very helpful upon queries, they were too busy working. Working for what I don't know, but it wasn't for the clients.
- Not even a decent internet facility to communicate.
It does have some +ve side though:
- Club inside hotel, nicely done, but empty most of the time except on sporting events
- Central bar is nice.
- Evening shows with settings are a bit above average.
- Spot is beautiful.

I’ve just came back from a 2 week stay at the Indian Resort – a fantastic choice for my honeymoon.
The service was excellent and the staff were friendly, the location is just breath taking, the views are just fantastic and the spa facilities were really nice, a little too pricy but worth every penny if you were out there to relax!
I took out the ‘All Inc.’ package, which I would recommend, as a simple coke in the resort is 170 MRS = £3.40 and adds up if you pay for a meal with extra drinks. There are no local supermarkets that you can visit, nearest is about 30mins drive, so u mostly do stay at the resort for meals and snacks.
If you are taking a taxi to explore the island then don’t book one from the resort, its too over priced, walking out to the next resort called ‘Berjaya’ which is about a 5 minute walk, the taxi stand is much and you can haggle for a lower price. For example a hiring a taxi to take you to the nearest shopping centre which is 30 minutes away, would cost 1000 MRS (£20.00) but we paid 500 MRS (£10.00), and then we booked the same taxi driver for our other trips, which he gave a good price.
One other thing to remember is not to book a half day excursion from the resort to Port Louis. The cost of traveling to Port Louis by taxi works out much cheaper and the taxi drivers are willing to wait for you, how ever long you have specified before making the booking. All taxi prices include the return to the resort.
Have a look at the pictures and judge for yourself!

I have just returned from the Indian Resort Hotel in Mauritius. Myself and my 7 year old son had a fantastic 2 weeks there. We arrived on the 25th March and left on the 8th April 2006.
We stayed in the marine rooms which were spacious and well laid out. Requests were dealt with promptly by staff.
I choose this hotel for its child facilities and I was not disappointed. They have an excellent child care centre that is very flexiable and the staff were wonderful. The childrens club is very clean and well laid out and offers a full timetable of events for children, swimming, beach volleyball, beach frisbie, tennis, games, crafts at the club and much much more. As I travelled alone with my son I was apprehensive but I need not have worried the hotel and staff were wonderful and I met some fantastic people there.
For watersports there is a wide variety available but it will depend on the weather as to whether water ski-ing, glass bottomed boat etc is available. However I met some people who were very enthustic about surfing, wind surfing and kitesurfing and they said that they had had a terrific time in the sea around the hotel.
There are three swimming pools, however one is in the spa area and you have to pay to use this one (no children allowed) unless you are having treatments in the spa.
I had their 5 day package of slimming and toning massages and I would recommend it, it was well worth the money. (I didn't come back home slim, but that was due to over eating in the various restaurants, not the package)
I would recommend taking the all inclusive package as drinks and simple food like pasta with a tomato sauce can be expensive, average prices seem to be 300mr for a plate of pasta which works out at about £6. It was 100mr for a bottle of water which is about £2 for a one litre bottle of water and if you have children it soon adds up.
Overall the food was good but can become a bit repetative on the second week so do use the other restuarants available. I went to all of them and found them all very good.
I found all of the staff very helpful and friendly,(guest relations, entertainment staff, childcare staff, bar staff, waiters, cleaners etc) in fact I have travelled a lot around the world and would go as far as to say that the staff have been the friendliest and most helpful I have ever come across, this really made our holiday a wonderful experience and I would go back to same hotel at the same time of year. It was not full during our stay and I think this did make a difference, nowhere was ever crowded, pools, beach, restaurants etc.
A wonderful time. Unfortunately I cannot download pictures too tech for me i'm afraid.

I am just back from a week in the Indian resort in Mauritius. Although the spot and hotel are beautiful, we found many negatives points that can ruin your holidays
These are my impressions about this hotel.
- We had a standard room, which was very large and nice. I just found a problem with the shower door, which was broken. The room was very clean, although we had to ask for clean towels a couple of times because none were left in our bathroom. The wardrobe is in the bathroom and is not big. There is a safe in the room you can use for free. The sea view was blocked with palm trees.
- The hotel is very nice and large, but it is easy to walk around. Grounds are lovely. Cleanness is very good everywhere. There are lot of facilities and things to do.
- There are 3 swimming pools, in different areas, but the one in the spa is not free (It costs about 9 euros). Swimming pools are nice and the view from the main one has a great view of La Morne Mountain..
- There are no many chairs around the swimming pool, so if you don’t go very early, you won’t have one. Swimming pool is crowded since it is less windy there.
- Beach is nice and long, but very windy, which is not great if you want to be in the beach. Also, there is a lot of coral in the beach and the sand is hard, so it is painful to walk in the beach. The sand is better in the area opposite the main swimming pool and on the left side, where is less windy too.
- Restaurants are nice, food average. The have quite a lot of fish, although sometimes (specially at lunch time) it wasn’t nice, too hard and not fresh. There isn’t much variety, especially in the beach restaurant at lunchtime.
-Staff: we found the staff in the main restaurant was very bad and rude. I had the impression I was bothering them when we asked for something.
Service is horrible and slow. I took 10-15 minutes to get a drink and sometimes we got them when we were about to finish our meal.
If you don’t arrive early to eat, you have to ask most of the times to get a table set, which took a while too. Sometimes we had to get cups or cutlery ourselves.
- All inclusive package: There are lot of drinks and food that are not included in the all inclusive. We ate once at the French restaurant and only a couple of dishes per course were included in the package.
- You have to sign for everything you consume, even if you have the all-inclusive and the bill is zero.
-Spa: It is very good. If you have a treatment, you can use the sauna and swimming pool for free that day. The swimming pool is nice, but it needs some changes to improve some problems.
Weather is better in the North of the island, so if you go in the winter, go there and avoid the east, which is very windy during the winter.
Regarding Mauritius, the island is beautiful. We rented a car for a couple of days to go around and I would recommend it.
Shopping is great. Cuperire is the best place to go, the cheapest (Floral and around). I was told Grand Baie is expensive and Port Louise is ok for shopping too.
Summing up, the hotel is very nice, but I wouldn’t recommend it since the attitude of some members of the staff can ruin your holidays and if you really like and want to enjoy the beach.

I stayed at the Indian Resort early December 2006. Having read the terrible reviews prior to my departure, and also having now read ALL of the reviews for this resort, I feel very strongly about giving my opinions, as the reviews which degrade this resort are unrealistic, and utter rubbish, not to say the least!
I booked this holiday through a tour operator in November 2006; I travelled with my husband and another couple who are friends ours - we flew Business Class with Air Mauritius, and stayed in Privelege Room, All Inclusive for 14 nights. The reason why I had selected this resort was mainy for its location, and that it was value for money. The consultant I had booked with was friendly, helpful, and giving me all the information I needed. Additionally, my son was thinking about getting married there in late 2007, so this was a good opportunity to get first hand experience of the hotel.
After I booked the holiday my friend looked at reviews of the hotel (some were very negative) - I was very upset as we had all paid a lot of money for this holiday, and we were now very much dreading the thought of staying at hat hotel - I felt so put off from travelling. I then called my tour operator to explain the situation, who were willing to change my hotel, but after doing my own research we all decided to stay at the Indian Resort.
So when we finally arrived at the hotel (after a long 12 hour flight, and 1 hour transfer time), we were greeted by very friendly Guest Relations staff. We were given a welcome drink, a cold towel to get refreshed, and only waited for about 15 minutes before we got our rooms! I was impressed! Our rooms were clean and spacious, and although the rooms did not have a full sea view (which we already knew as our operator had told us), we did have a very, very distant sea view.
I'd like to keep this review as short as possible, whils making all the points necessary, so I'd like to say the following:
The rooms are excellent, (I did not see the Standard Room), but was told by staff that the majority of the rooms now have garden views due to the large numbers of trees which have been planted, and are now fully grown. The rooms a very clean and spacious with good pretty furnishings - the Privilege rooms have a safe and tea/coffee making facilities (Standard Rooms do not have this so beware if your agent tell you otherwise). For the last 2 nights of the holiday I stayed in a Suite, which was execellent - it was extremeley large with a huge bed room, and a sepeate living/dining rooms, with fanastic sea views.
All the staff members are extremely friendly - this also includes the bar staff, waiters, guest realations, Spa staff, entertainment, cleaners - nothing was ever too much for them, and they'd go out of the way to help as much as possible.
The All Inclusive is a very good option at this resort, as food/drinks can be very expensive. There's a choice of about 6 restaurants which can be used, however the a la carte restaurants, such as the Indian, Italian require prior reservations. Also, beware of the fact that although all the restaurants can be used, not all the food items are included in the All Inclsuive, therefore one has to pay supplements. The food variety was great at all of the restauants, and with the main buffet restaurant there is a differet theme every night - the turn around time is about 2 weeks, so we didn't have repepative food. Also, all the bars can be used, however only local drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic) are included. The All Incusive option at this particular hotel is very attractive as there is a lot of flexibility with th bars/restaurants one can use - there are many hotels which usually hav restrictions to 1 main restaurant/bar.
The beach was very nice, with an excellent lagoon. The watersports (many of which are free) were a lot of fun. We also used the PADI dive, but this was a bit expensive.
The Spa was wonderful, with a huge variety of treatments to choose from. The staff here were very helpful, an gave very good advice on the treatments they thought would be beneficial. Once again, the treatments were a bit expensive, but worth the money.
The amount I have to say about the Indian Resort is endless (positive things of course - the above is only a small amount).
The only negative situation I experienced was that after the first night in our room, we realised that the was a problem with the beds that we had - we had asked for a double bed but got twins instead, and both beds were pushed together, with springs coming out of one of the beds. We told resident keeper the following morning, about this, and although we wanted the beds changed, we did not want to change our room as we were very hapy with it. Straight away, 3 members of staff came straight up to our room to change the bed to a double bed, and they also changed our friends beds too (and they did not have any problems). The staff were vert curtious and efficient!
All in all I have to say that this is a fantastic resort. I do a lot of travelling world-wide, and this is certainly one of the best resorts (although not a 5* luxurious resort, but it is classified as a 4*+ anyway). DO NOT TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THE NEGATVE REVIEWS - having been to the resort myself I can say that the reviews which degrade the hotel seem to be far from the truth - infact it seems like a dreadful amount of cobblers - perhaps they were over-sold by their agent, and therefore they expected too much!
There are many good reviews on this resort as well, so take some time to look at it and do your own homework, or just find out for yourself by going out there - you won't be dissapointed.
Having said all of this, I for sure am very happy that I stayed at the Indian Resort - my son has booked his wedding for this hotel, for this November, and a group of us (26 people) will all be flying out there to enjoy this resort.
