Short version : It's difficult to find fault with this resort in any way shape or form. It is a perfect (dictionary definition) escape location with incredible restaurants, activities and facilities. But above all else, the GENUINE kindness warmth and passion of the staff will give you memories that will stay with you forever. BOOK NOW! Long version: We booked this holiday for some winter sun, choosing Mauritius as we wanted to be comfortably into the southern hemisphere for some good weather. After the usual trawl through websites we settled on the LUX Grand Gaube (LGG hereafter) as it looked very nice in the photos and seemed decent for the money we paid. As we arrived and walked up to reception was when our jaws first hit the deck. The beauty of the decor with its view through to the ocean beyond is really hard to convey in words. Our check in process took a little longer due to a few people arriving at the same time (the staff go through ALOT with you about the resort during check in but this is very much needed and worth the time). While we waited we were brought lovely refreshments and cold towels. We were then whisked from reception in a golf buggy to our room where our bags had already been taken and the porter gave us a room tour. The room is stunning, spacious and more than adequate. As we were on the all inclusive plan the minibar stocked (daily) with beer, half bottles of wine, half bottle of gin and vodka (again.. DAILY!) juice and soda along with crisps and chocolate.... is also included. We were speechless. Views from the rooms are beautiful (we overlooked the beach), the bed is enormous and comfortable. We asked for more pillows as the one wasn't quite enough but they will offer you a pillow of any firmness to suit. Bathroom is large and spacious with a huge shower which has a waterfall feature as well as a shower head and a bench. Toilet has a fancy Japanese style bidet....refreshing! The outdoor and beach areas are maintained to a very high standard and staff are out constantly taking care of the place. Beaches are cleaned of seaweed and combed every morning. During our stay the monsoon season arrived early but the workers carried on even when the rain was torrential. These people really put their all into making the resort picture perfect. There are two beach areas, one for adults only which also has its own pool and restaurant (The Creole smokehouse... more on that later but its sensational). The other beach is for kids too. You will never struggle to get some sunbeds which are all plush and comfy, towels are out ready for you. Each and every set of beds and parasol has a little button like a doorbell. Push it and someone will come and take your order for food or drinks. Sometimes it might take 10-15 minutes but they will come, its fantastic! Restaurants Where do we start. Long story short, they are all excellent. First night we tried the main buffet at the Palm Court. It is styled like a street food market and has many different dishes with chefs on hand to help you customise your dishes or even cook something to order. All cuisines are catered for, it really is first class. Breakfast is also served here. There is a separate cold room with sliding doors where the cheeses, meats and cold drinks are kept nice and chilled. Personal highlights include the stir fry station where after putting together my ingredients they were flame cooked to perfection. Never had a chow mein like it. You could eat there every night and be happy, but the other restaurants are divine. Pre booking is essential and do as we did - use their website and book the restaurants before you even arrive. Bodrum Blue - Turkish style. A beautiful restaurant on the other side of the bay from the main hotel complex. Stunning sunset views over the water. The food is authentic beautiful Turkish cuisine, we highly recommend the meze sharing platter which will see your table filled with 7 or so different dishes of beautiful food. The mains are perfect too and we had such an amazing meal we got the chef over to thank him personally. Incredible. Also available for lunch. Beach rouge - At first glance you may be fooled into thinking this is more of a casual little restaurant on the beach front. However the truth is that the food served in here was probably one of our favourite meals and of Michelin star level quality. Again, all augmented by staff who genuinely care and want you to have the best experience. It means alot to them and it shows. This is a must visit restaurant and also available for lunch. Creole Smokehouse (open Tuesday and Thursdays so pre booking essential) - Unfortunately due to the rain our original booking had to be cancelled (all seats are outside) however, the hotel rebooked us for a few nights later. However when it looked like the rain wasn't going to let up, the staff went to huge lengths to allow guests to have the Creole experience...and errected a massive Gazebo/canopy to allow the restaurant to welcome guests. It is this level of going the extra mile that makes the LUX so special. We had another beautiful meal. Great for lunch too as its the same menu and you can sit at the tables under the beautiful Banyan tree. For the grand finalé... Inti. (not on all inclusive (except drinks) but you get a 30% discount off your bill if you are half board or above. It is the on site Peruvian restaurant and is the jewel in the LGG's culinary options. Head chef Pedro (who also offers cooking lessons which we had the previous day, amazing!) has created a sensational restaurant showcasing his home countries food. It is hard to overstate how special this restaurant is. It is currently rated as the number 2 restaurant in the entire continent of Africa on Trip Advisor... and its easy to say why. Beautiful decor and ambiance, Freddie the legend on the accoustic guitar singing and playing was a wonderful addition and really set the mood. Food is again michelin star level (at least 2 or 3!) It truly is a special experience built on one mans passion for his home countries food. You will not forget this meal. ALSO!!! The LGG make all their own ice cream! There is a stand near the beach/suites made from an old Mini cooper car! The ice cream is of an incredible standard and not just some random mr whippy style nonsense... it is handmade on site and beautiful. The cafe beside reception is available through the day until late with all your coffee needs hot or cold and baking items to go with too. Activities: Watersports are included! All non-engine activities (Paddleboards, Pedalos, Kayaks, Wind surfers, Sailing, and Snorkelling at the beach) are included free of charge! For an extra payment you can go Snorkelling at the reef on a glass bottomed boat, Jetski or scuba diving but these are weather dependant and sadly we were unable to do our diving or scuba trip. One day the hotel's own SEAPLANE (yes, seaplane) was parked up. I spoke to the pilot and he said to contact their website for a flight which is around £170 for a 30 minute flight or £220 for an hour. Unfortunately again, the weather scuppered my journey but how many hotels can you say offer this service?! Unreal. There are tennis courts available for use too. The spa really is stunning and great for a visit (45 minute visits to use the pool sauna and steam room are free) however treaments are eyewateringly expensive! If you are arty, you can visit the little junkyard workshop where you can create models and other random things from junk and recycled goods! The resort has TWO cinemas!! One indoor which is a beautiful classic style cinema... and also an outdoor cinema (weather dependant). In the lobby on cinema days there are two pictures with a film each (ie Pretty woman and Grease) and two vases. The vase infront of the film that has the most glass beads in it at the end of the day is the film that will be shown at the lovely outdoor screen! An incredible touch. Once again sadly weather rained off our chance to do this. Entertainment each night at the Palm court bar is wonderful. You will have everything from quiet relaxing groups to full on bands playing all the hits which will get everyone up dancing. All in all, it was the holiday of a lifetime for us and we will never forget it. We have already looked at returning. Its just that good. The staff really are the main highlight and cant do enough for you. It really matters to them and you can tell. Our flight home was overnight delayed and the staff made it easy and simple to accomodate us which greatly reduced any stresses. They are a commendable bunch and I hope if LUX management read this review that they are looking after their wonderful people. Special mentions go to : Szylvano - works at the Café LUX. An absolute joy to speak to every day when we got our coffees. Naomi - Works at reception and gave us the tour/briefing for the resort when we arrived, she is very funny and lovely to be around! Yasser - our waiter in Bodrum Blue. Kind, caring and recommended a few of our dishes which were spot on! Chef Bilal at Bodrum Blue - Thank you for our amazing meal and for coming to chat to us afterwards. I still haven't got over the sweet tahini puree! Viresh and Purgen - Our waiters at Beach Rouge. I think Viresh was learning the ropes and doing a great job under Purgen's watchful eye. Purgen is a perfect maître d' and really runs an excellent operation. First class! Kerin - Served us at a few of the restaurants but his kind nature and warm welcomes always meant alot to us. A lovely man, thank you. Kumar - he looked after us when on the adults beach and brought us refreshments all day. Lovely man always making sure we were topped up and enjoyed chatting about football and rugby! Thank you Heena - Served us in the buffet, lovely and bubbly, thank you for your kindness and care. Jonathan - He works mostly in the Palm court bar, always smiling and happy to see us, he works non stop and is always flying around making sure everyone has a refreshment. He bought us some nibbles over on our last night to have with our drinks while we watched the sun set. Such a thoughtful touch, thank you! Last but by no means least: Ashwan We were looked after by this legend multiple times. No matter how busy he was he would come over to see us in the morning and welcome us with hand shakes and a chat, making sure we had the best seats going, making sure we were relaxed and happy. One morning when we returned to our seats at breakfast on a particularly rainy morning, we found two glasses of prosecco waiting for us. He had remembered that it was our drink of choice. Such a small touch that meant the world to us. Ashwan is the embodiment of good service, warmth and the kindness of the people of Mauritius. We hope we see you again! This review is long enough, if you have read this far...well done! It is the perfect resort to escape the world and come back feeling completely rejuvenated. Even with the rain on almost all of our days there, it was still blissful, beautiful and relaxing. The food truly is of a different level and you may well need to get a gym membership when you get home to burn off those calories! To the Management and staff of LGG : Thank you for everything.

Our family stay at Lux Grande Gaube just before Christmas was fantastic; the room, resort setting, food & drink, facilities and activities on offer all exceeded our expectations. I particularly liked the fact that all the watersports were included and had plenty of availability, so it was easy to wander down to the beach at any time and pick up a kayak, SUP or whatever. Beach Rouge was my favourite restaurant of the ones we tried. Their evening menu has a few additional options on it over the lunch one such as a really excellent beef tartare, but unfortunately we were only able to book it once for an evening meal. In fact the process of booking restaurants was one of the the few things that I felt could be improved, but that seems to be a common problem in all-inclusive resorts. The best approach is probably to book the full range of restaurants in advance on the day you arrive, and then you can always try to change the bookings if you find something that you particularly like. To be fair, the staff in the restaurants were very accommodating in trying to squeeze us in even if we didn't have a booking, and the buffet restaurant is of such high quality that eating there each evening would be just fine. The same children's menu was available in each restaurant and was of very high quality. Similarly the same excellent drinks options including their own brand South African wines, some tasty beers and a good range of cocktails are available in each outlet. An all-day coffee bar serving a wide range of hot drinks, milkshakes etc. was another daily destination, along with the ice cream truck on the beach. There are two kids clubs which seem to be aimed at very young children and teens but not so much for those in the middle, but with so many options on offer that wasn't a problem. A particular highlight for my daughter was the Junk Art Gallery, where she made a dodo and another piece of artwork out of recycled materials from the resort. Mario, the gentleman that runs the gallery is extremely kind, entertaining and patient and it was a real pleasure to spend time with him and the other members of staff there. It's best to book appointments here in advance to avoid disappointment as they can only accommodate a certain number of guests at any one time. Excursions are one area where I think the hotel could provide a little more information up front so that guests know what's available, what's worthwhile and what's the best way to make it happen. We only went out on one day when we hired a taxi to take us to Chateau Labordonnais, around 20 minutes drive away. The driver waited for us and then took us back once we'd finished, and the local drivers have agreed rates with the hotel for these kind of trips. The Chateau is beautiful and contains exhibits explaining the colonial history of Mauritius. The restaurant there looked good and we enjoyed the rum and fruit tasting in the bar, which is included in the standard entry price. Try to avoid going on a Sunday though, as some of the stuff here is closed then. If I went back I'd probably hire a car for a day or two to see a bit more of the island, as its only an hour from end-to-end, the road network is good and some of the scenery in the mountains is spectacular, Overall, Lux Grand Gaube probably the best all-round resort hotel I've stayed in. The quality of the food, the exceptional level of service from all the staff and the Junk Art Gallery are all outstanding features that make it worth the trip. If Mauritius wasn't such a long way from anywhere I'd be planning another trip soon.

We spent the first part of our honeymoon here and what a beautiful property this hotel is and the surrounding landscape was simply stunning especially the exquisite and gnarly Banyan Trees! Every where you walk on this property is a beautiful view. Palm Court was every bit as great as other people have says. The food choices were excellent and the setting was gorgeous - sitting by the pool but also looking out into the ocean. The Peruvian Restaurant’Inti’ was excellent!! The cocktails were great too and thanks to young Jonathon for looking after us every night and making us so welcome. The Creole restaurant was open for lunch & dinner - just gutted the rain meant we didn’t get to try the Creole food the night we wanted We didn’t get to eat at the Turkish restaurant but it was overlooking the bay and looked very pretty. The G&T 100 club was run by the most fascinating man who was a Gin, Rum & Whiskey master. Lovely setting & good tunes. Huge thanks to Avi & his colleague for setting up our sun beds each day - even in the rain and providing me with a cool box for my medication. We both had some time at the Spa which was gorgeous both in and outdoors and highly recommend Joanne for a massage. We had a ground floor room with a porch which looked into the gorgeous gardens and had a side view of the beach. My only reason for the 4 star rating and not 5, is the room did smell a little damp and like one other reviewer said, the room did look a little tired in places, with scuffs on the walls. But it was clean, big and comfortable. I’ve also written a review for Lux Le Morne and in terms of a honeymoon destination, Le Morne just has an even bigger wow factor due to location and the beachfront. But in both places, the people really make it and take care of everyone who visits. My only feedback to Grand Gaube would be to make it known when you check in to get everything booked up asap as we nearly missed out on a few of the benefits given to us as part of our honeymoon

Stayed here to celebrate our civil partnership. It is a wonderful resort. We arrived relatively late, but we’re met by friendly staff and treated well with the usual cold drinks, explanation of the resort and shown to our room. We stayed in a delux adults only room that is in a little secluded bit around a bay. It was a comfy 4-poster style bed, had mega large bathroom with separate shower and bath. There was a drying cord in the shower to hang wet things over which was useful. Made use of the laundry service which was also quick and good quality, standard hotel prices. Main bedroom was cozy and compact with two chairs that allowed you to sit in and look out to the lagoon bit, there was a tv however was difficult to watch from the chairs and the four poster bed bit blocked the screen. Didn’t watch loads of tv as out doing things but for some might be a consideration. Snacks draw amazing refilled daily and free if all inclusive. Room was cleaned well although we did have two days where house keeping didn’t come and we had to call reception, they were quick to sort it. Resort is generally amazing, it’s windy like cape Verdi can be but the swimming pool and beach are fairly sheltered. We always got sun beds, however people to reserve at stupid o clock and the staff never move towels. The smaller swimming pool is not heated and in sept/oct it was too cold for us to use, we used the main one which was great but had more children around it. Used the cinema twice, they give you little popcorn and snacks, also used outdoor cinema once which was novel under the stars - take layers!! Coffee bar is wonderful and the staff are really friendly and helpful in recommendations. The junk shop out passed the gym was a lovely hidden secret, we made little dodos which were a really nice moments actually and the staff down there were also really friendly and good fun. We used the spa but not any treatments, it’s relatively small but quiet and pleasant at twilight we found. The gym also small but has everything you need, again staff really approachable and friendly, I ended up doing my own workout on the boxing area outside as that was spacious. I did use the beauty parlour and got a pedicure as I didn’t have time before I travelled, the salon is lovely and the staff were great. Lots of Essie products, it was spotless, however it is expensive I paid nearly £80, but did enjoy the experience. Bodrum blue was our favourite restaurant we went a couple of times that week, however the buffet was also amazing every time, staff get busy but always look to assist you in any way that they can. There was so much choice for food, and it was all of a really good standard as was the wine, really happy with that choice. After a week we did get a little bit of cabin fever and got reception to order us a taxi, we went out to the botanical gardens for the day, which was close and really interesting. Our tip would be take cash and pay for a guide to make the most of the experience, also take your own water and snacks as there is no shop or anything there. Overall great resort, staff very attentive, food amazing, it was restful and relaxing which was what we wanted

The team was great, kind, warm Lots of things to do in the resort itself. Didn't really find a reason to travel outside of the resort, since it offers lots of things to do like water activities, leisure, interesting workshops, great spa facilities, plus lots of different and beautiful spots to relax. But above all stands the staff of the resort. They are all both highly professional and still so kind and warm. Elena from reception, the barrista from Cafe LUX and many others I cannot remember all of the names. Already praised the staff of the restaurants in specific reviews, but would like to mention again Mr Jean Christophe - the Pulm Court restaurant manager. He touched our hearts with his authentic humanity, kindness, and being so caring and interested in our plans and our best. We highly recommend a vacation in this resort 😀

We’re still here and I’ll write another review before the end. I have been lucky to travel and stay in some amazing hotels but this one is a stand out and it is absolutely down to the staff. The hotel management have an incredible team and there isn’t one member of staff that isn’t here to help. But there are two stand out team members. Christopher and Joenathan who should be fast tracked they are exemplary.

WOW! Just returned from 10 days at the wonderful Lux Grande Gaube. Initial impressions on arrival: a stunning location, stylish eye catching designs throughout and our room (6009) a ‘Wellness Suite’ absolutely gorgeous. Combine this with the very highest standard of dining options, quality drinks and impeccable friendly service, this hotel really does score top marks throughout. We enjoyed wonderful lunches and dinners at the superb A La Carte restaurants, Beach Rouge, Bodrum Blue and Creole Smoke House. The main buffet restaurant included a choice of Live Cooking stations - all brilliant. For a real treat be sure to visit Inti Restaurant, (Peruvian Cusine: not included with all inclusive, but you get a discount) the food here really is very special. Back to the service: we were treated like royalty throughout our stay. Management have nailed this and ALL staff are a true credit to the resort. Special shout out to these superstars who consistently went above and beyond with super friendly chat and service. Keeshan lifeguard so helpful and friendly every day he was on duty and don’t know how he remembers everyone’s names! Maneesh Maneb Ashoka Sun in the spa super helpful before we even arrived on resort. Sachin beach rouge Purgun beach rouge Ravish beach rouge Vishnu bar man was everywhere! Always stopped to say hello. Manav pool service David inti Yeshwan inti Yasser palm Court Nehah reception Vishi pool service We will have missed some names so apologies but you were all amazing and made our stay the BEST! We would return to this hotel without a doubt.

We stayed here with our 2 year old daughter and had the best holiday! The food is out of this world, the same level as a great London restaurant, even the buffet dinners. The kids menu has been designed by a Mum! You can choose from an extensive list of veg/fruit/carbs/protein and build the perfect dinner for your child, with the option to puree it for babies- no need to bring any pouches! The drinks are excellent with only a few options not included in all inclusive. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, although you do wait quite a while for service in the main bar and restaurant and often have to ask twice for things. Stand out staff include Durgesh, Avish, David, Aryan and Yassir. The bodrum restaurant is the best Turkish food I've had and the incredible chef Jossita even gave me her secret hummus recipe! There are endless things to do, from sports, to the gym, spa, cinema, kids club, nature walks, arts and crafts, the list goes on. You would never get bored here! The rooms are clean and well decorated, they could do with a little freshen up in parts, the shower grout needs updating and the towels are too old but nothing too bad. The hallways to the rooms which are far and away the worst part of the hotel need to be updated but otherwise it's immaculate. Thoroughly recommend and will be coming back with my family soon.
