A relaxing atmosphere in a refined setting This exclusive cocoon is an ode to Mauritian history, where the elaborate codes of colonial interior design, from white walls to carved woodwork meet the simple charm of creole homes and their corrugated metal sheet roofs. Out on the beach, under traditional kiosks, deck chairs invite you to comfortably settle for a day of farniente. Veranda Grand Baie epitomizes the finest pleasures of Mauritian island life in the lively village of Grand Baie. Inspired by typical creole guesthouses, this hotel and its private beach provide guests with a peaceful haven! Veranda Grand Baie, through its creole roots, revisits the Creole chic concept by offering a range of immersive local experiences.

Nestled close to local shops, restaurants, and the beach, Veranda Grand Baie Hotel & Spa offers travelers a prime spot for exploring, with many praising its cleanliness and daily upkeep. While guests appreciate the hotel's amenities, such as beach access and sunset views, there are calls for more sun loungers and better towel service. The rooms receive mixed reviews, with comfort and furnishings set against some noise and maintenance issues. The Mauritian ambiance is generally a hit, although nightlife can intrude. Opinions on value and service vary, with accolades for friendly staff balanced by concerns over cost and occasional lapses in service efficiency.

Recently returned from a week at Veranda Grand Baie.
Upon arrival we were made to feel very welcome with a cocktail and relaxed check in within the bar lounge area followed by a guided tour around the hotel.
Due to our early arrival our room wasn’t ready but we were shown where we could change and freshen up and all the facilities were made available to us from arrival.
Because this was a special occasion holiday the hotel had provided a chilled bottle sparkling wine and a fruit platter in our room when it was made available.
We had a top floor room (2nd floor) which was plenty big enough for our needs and the beds had proper mattress’s and were very comfortable, also the rooms were very private and we didn’t here any noise from the adjoining rooms.
There was some noise from a local bar on Friday and Saturday but the music ended at 12.30am and never really bothered us, the rooms were cleaned daily to a high standard.
The hotel had a main infinity pool overlooking a small man made beach with a great view of the bay. The hotel has beautiful, well maintained gardens. There was a public beach just around the corner which was great for watching the sun set (look out for Kevin on the beach playing 80’s music, he was there every sunset).
The hotel offers a variety of included water activities and we took up the snorkelling on the Reef and kayaking but there were many more.
The atmosphere in the restaurant was calm and well organised with a variety of food options available, the restaurant staff were very attentive and we really appreciated our main waiters Doushan and Ansuya. Doushan in particular was always ready with our usual drinks and always checking in to make sure we were ok.
As we had made the hotel aware we had a special occasion we were pleasantly surprised to return to our room to find an invitation for a complementary meal at the Lazy Lobster, we were served a delicious 4 course meal by Ashwin & Akilesh who were attentive whilst allowing us time to enjoy the meal in a relaxed way.
Bar La Crique is a relaxing place to enjoy drinks overlooking the bay, Mevin, Yovinand & Zak (there were also the girls, we didn’t manage to catch there names) provided an excellent service taking and serving our drink orders.
Can’t forget to mention Ajay and his fresh coconut cocktail which looked and tasted amazing, always going around asking every one if they wanted anything.
The hotel is in a great location looking over the bay and is a 10 minute stroll along the beach to the shops and access to the local public transport.
There are a limited amount of loungers and parasols around the pool and additional ones in the gardens, we did feel that they could do with a few more loungers and parasols as they were all taken up on some days.
Overall this is a chilled out hotel with very attentive and polite staff which compliment the relaxed atmosphere and we would highly recommend staying here.

We had a great stay at the Veranda Grand Bay. This "human-sized" Pension immediately plunged us into the Mauritian atmosphere. The decor is neat, there are several incredibly charming places to land and lots of Things to do for free like snorkeling, glass bottom boat, kayak, billiards, volleyball or pétanque. What is more than appreciated:)

The rooms are arranged around a garden with extremely exotic coconut trees. The buffet is appetizing and changed every day. Numerous activities are offered by the Pension with evening shows facing the sea in an idyllic setting. The atmosphere is friendly, everyone talks to each other, especially around animated aperitifs on Thursday or through the excursions offered.
The cove bar, with its live singers, offers a total change of scenery to sip a cocktail (however the service denotes with the rest of the Pension, you will have to take your trouble patiently to order:) ).

The true + of this Pension lies in its staff who offer a unique experience.
We thank Nashvim for the reception, Aurora for the shop, Joelle and Balram for the restaurant, Elodie and Zak for the bar and Christella for the animation. Without them, our stay would not have had the same flavor.
MR R C I!

However, there are important things to know about your future bookings that we would like to know:
- The Pension is not located on a beach, the sandy plot with deckchair descends directly into the water by stairs and a very small swimming area framed by buoys because directly into the bay with boats. Nevertheless, a 5-minute walk away there is a very nice public beach.
- The Pension is close to the Grand Baie nightclubs, some of which are open air and music can be heard inside the rooms until about 1am.
Not all rooms are alike and those on the garden level do not have much light.
- The SPA has little interest, massages are expeditious, under the hours announced.

We will come back:)

Ps: the sunsets are amazing!

What an amazing experience this was from start to finish! We were the second guests to arrive after their re-opening after being closed for almost 3 years. What we experienced was quite beyond our expectations. Firstly, the service from staff was probably the best that we have ever experienced (and we travel fairly regularly). The staff are warm and friendly, ready to help to make one's stay a 5 star experience. Giany, the manager, was fantastic and put in extra time to ensure that our every need was seen to. Manisha, the lady who is tasked with entertaining the children, was outstanding! Our girls loved every minute spent with her. The staff in the restaurant and bars were phenomenal...I wish that I could name everyone because everyone was just fantastic. Thank you!
The food was magnificent! My family has never eaten so much as the variety and quality was really excellent.
The rooms were lovely and housekeeping kept us entertained with lovely fresh and different towel designs every morning (we loved these - a great touch!)
As not all of the hotel was completed when we were there, I can't really comment on things like the gym, the library or the kids' centre. However, I'm sure it will all be even more amazing when completed. The surrounding area is also great for shopping and restaurants and beaches.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

Disappointed with allocation of room if it was a car it would have been a loaner the only one left Three days stay ok didn’t relax as much as past visits staff very obediently friendly breakfast seemed better than previous visits room seemed smallish for the price no complaints about the washroom adequate free soaps shampoo etc probably the best feature of a small room Grande mirror on one wall probably to give an impression of a larger room location of cabin in garden very nice quite like I asked for.
Generally disappointing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ probably for some people although very clean la cuvette gran baie good location
Probably my age would restrict another very to Mauritius from London 20 hour journey would have expected more after renovations no complaints did sleep well feel more rested and relaxed just slightly disappointed. Greetings very pleasant although I did have wait a while till they found the smallest room possible for me

A lovely boutique hotel not over crowded which is why we chose here.
We stayed 10 nights on half board so we could sample local cuisine outside of hotel but if we were to choose again I would just do bed and breakfast as most local restaurants only open evenings so we ended up going out for dinner instead.
Staff are pleasant but 1 particular waiter was outstanding Ajay. Who was very friendly attentive and cheerful all the time, always knew when we needed drinks by the pool.
Few negatives I’d like to point out: we ordered drinks at dinner that seemed to be watered down, first I’d put it down to ice melting and watered coke down but my husband also said beer was same and we have been drinking the local beer elsewhere for comparison. I’ve heard this happening with all inclusive in some hotels but certainly didn’t expect anything like that here especially when we pay for our drinks not being inclusive.
Also I’d ordered a tequila sunrise what arrived was tequila and watered down juice no sign or the sunrise ie no grenadine. So I queried the waiter who said they must have run out of red syrup? But then he proceeded to bring the next table what looks like a proper tequila sunrise. Annoyed I asked the waiter how come you have tequila sunrise for next table he said oh no they’re mocktails sweet sunrise.
So mocktails takes precedence over proper cocktails that costs more?
When I asked the waiter if he could change it now that they do have grenadine to which he replied “well they’ve made it now”
By this point I was getting angry and demanded he at least add some grenadine to my drink, reluctantly he took my drink and said I’ll make you another 1.
Our room which was close to pool was great but unfortunately after dinner the music blaring from pool/beach till nearly midnight most nights was not great if you’d like to get an early night sleep.

I have just finished a stay at Veranda Grand Baie with my wife and my 8 month old son, it was exceptional.

The rooms, the structure, the food, the staff, plus the heavenly setting of Grand Baie, made us dream for 10 days.
We had a real Mauritian welcome from the first day and we felt right at home.

The colonial style has been chosen with great taste, the vegetation and gardens are very neat, the infinity pool has a breathtaking view of the bay, with beautiful palm trees. All these details pleasantly surprised us.

The rooms are spacious, very clean, the decor is neat and the bedding is comfortable, a real pleasure.
The food is of very good quality, with a fairly wide choice at breakfast and dinner, in addition to delicious Mauritian snacks available throughout the day (chili cakes, crepes, etc.). The lunch menu is reduced (small downside), but that didn't bother us too much. For our baby, who eats the pieces, the chef prepared small ad hoc dishes for us (always fish with vegetables), it reassured us about the little one's diet, we were happy with it.
In addition, chef Suhdir and sous chefs Divesh and Vidish, with great surprise, introduced us to excellent dishes of Mauritian gastronomy, THANK YOU!
We also enjoyed the cooking of Priya, Tamish and Prema. Their smiles and kindness were the real icing on the cake :)
In the dining room, we would like to thank Prema, Cindi, Rishi, Ajar (who speaks very good Italian, BRAVO!), the service manager Clarel as well as all the other servers.
A big thank you to the entire reception team, Jemisha, Tegan, Obrayen, Kunal, Anne Doura, Ashvin and Alix who always welcomed us with a huge smile and attention to the little one. Thank you so much !

We recommend Veranda Grand Baie without any hesitation, we were so happy with our stay that we didn't want to leave!

The Veranda Grand Baie is beautifully designed with a well-kept garden. The rooms are quiet, spacious and clean. The breakfast buffet leaves nothing to be desired, the eggs are prepared according to your wishes, fresh fruit in all variations is cut up. The spices at dinner were a little lacking in "zing", but that's a matter of taste.
There is a wide range of sports and leisure activities. The spa, service and reception staff are very friendly and helpful. As our return flight was delayed several times, the hotel covered the costs of the late check-out and we were able to continue using the room! The beach area is very small, but the beautiful public beach is a 5-minute walk away. The bus stops are within walking distance, so you can also explore the island on your own. If you are looking for relaxation, this is the right place for you.

Just back from a very relaxing break at the Veranda. We loved the fact this was a smaller hotel which had a very chilled vibe throughout. All the staff at the hotel are a credit to their employer with excellent service and friendly manners. Special shout out to Ajay Coconut who went above and beyond to attend to our needs at the poolside and at the restaurant area.

We took the All Inclusive option and found this great value for money especially if you like your cocktails. The food we also found very good, buffet style for breakfast and dinner, with lunch served to you from their lunchtime menu. There was no queuing for food or noise in the food area and the staff always checked if you required anything while dining. We also tried the Lazy Lobster which is more expensive than eating outside of the hotel but the food was very nice, we both had lobster. We opted to eat out a few nights also during our stay. There are lots of restaurants around the bay to choose from and all at very reasonable prices.

Entertainment each night which flowed with the relaxed vibe.

We visited the spa twice during our stay and both treatments were excellent and the staff here are very attentive. Prices I found similar to UK spa treatments.

Hotel was very clean including our room with towels changed each day. We stayed in a comfort pool view room which I have to agree from previous reviews drowns out the local disco on a Fri and Sat, we could still hear the noise but can't stay we were disturbed by it.

Recommend the speedboat 5 island trip, we booked via our rep at the hotel and it really was a lovely day. Half day trip to St Louis is plenty to cover this part of the area and the staff at the watersports section at the hotel offer different sports for you to try, we went on the glass bottom boat which lasted around 40mins.

My only negative and not reflective of the hotel itself but the Grand Baie area , the main street I found I was not very comfortable eating out or walking around. The streets are poorly lit, pavements are a mess and you do need to be careful of people approaching you to beg which happened to us on a few occasions. The nights we did eat out we came back to the comfort of the hotel which is just a short walk along the beach to the centre. But the views around the bay are lovely which can be viewed from the hotel's beach.

All in all an excellent break, met lots of nice people to chat to in the evenings while sitting at the beach bar and have returned home relaxed.

Inviting, traditional hotel in Grand Baie that leaves nothing to be desired. The complex is well thought out and stylishly designed, the rooms are very spacious and idyllically located in a tropical garden. The small bungalows and paths are designed in such a way that a feeling of privacy is created. From the infinity pool you can look out over the small beach with loungers and sea access, but the small public beach right next door is particularly great for swimming, one of the most beautiful on the island. The town is within easy walking distance.
The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, as a solo traveler I never had the feeling of not being noticed and quickly got into conversation. Operations Manager Vicky is a real asset and very committed to dealing with all guests. Thanks to his personal and interested communication, I felt in good hands with questions and requests right from the start.
I recommend booking at least half board, it's really worth it! The food is excellent and varied and the drinks at the bar are of very good quality and absolutely reasonable in price. After a few days the staff knew my personal preferences, so I didn't even need to order anymore :) Everyone is really super nice and attentive.
The gym is well equipped and a good size and is located in a separate, more active area of the complex.
I stayed in other hotels before my stay in Grand Baie and immediately found the atmosphere here to be the best, so I ended up extending my stay.

This could be a fantastic hotel but the service is sooooo slow you could get dehydrated waiting!
Rooms are made up each day but floors never washed or toilets properly cleaned .Ajay Coconut is the only person who has a great work ethic and has a real sense of customer service.
We got so fed up with lack of service even when it wasn’t busy . I gave up twice in the Cirque bar in the evening as I sat there for 30 minutes with no one asking me what I’d like to drink and on one occasion we ordered drinks and they didn’t arrive so my husband went to find out what had happened to them and they were sitting on the bar as no one had bothered to serve them to us .
Also at 10pm cushions and light were removed from empty tables even though people were still drinking and it’s not supposed to close until 11pm so you felt uncomfortable.
Final evening the food was dreadful not enough salads or vegetables and the meat was so tough you couldn’t cut it and when you got it in your mouth you just couldn’t chew enough to swallow. It was if they hadn’t had a delivery so had to make do .
Basically there was a lot of official looking staff who didn’t seem to realise that they needed to lead by example. Not trained enough employees.
On a positive note the staff are very polite and friendly .
