We booked our second week at the Shandrani as we were looking for an up-scale hotel in the south of the island.
The hotel is on quite a large complex with the lagoon on one side and the Indian Ocean on the other.
We were on the AI (Serenity) package in a deluxe room(368). The room was excellent and very spacious, complete with a large bathroom, separate WC and separate dressing room. Wonderful bed and good quality furnishings. Excellent wifi.
We were on the 3rd floor with a balcony overlooking the palms and the lagoon. The room was nice and quiet as requested (including the aircon!)
The central complex and pool with most of the restaurants and bar is a few hundred meters walk but you can call a buggy if you need to.
The Serenity package covers access to all restaurants except the Boucanier, which you could book with a supplement.
We enjoyed the main buffet (Le Port) the Italian (Ponte Vecchio), the Thai (Teak Elephant) and the international (Sirius). We never made it to the Asian (Ephemerid) as it was closed all the time we were there....shame.
All restaurants apart from the buffet required a reservation at least one day in advance. This was a hassle as there is only one desk in the lobby with a single staff member on duty. Queues were inevitable.
Food in all the restaurants was very tasty and high quality.
All staff we met were really helpful and friendly, but they could do with more in the Blue bay bar and also in the Sirius bar ( at least at the busy time of the evening).
The beaches are lovely with the lagoon perfect for families and swimming. The ocean side was spectacular but not really safe for swimming (there are signs everywhere warning of rip currents).
Plenty of sun loungers, and we never had to worry about finding one.
We could not get a late check out on our day of departure, but the hotel do have a nice "departure lounge" with showers and lockers and changing area.
Given the comprehensive nature of the Serenity package, I wouldn't pay the extra for the Serenity Plus.

Areas for improvement:
The location is quite remote and the only way to get anywhere is to hire a car or take a taxi. There is no courtesy bus from the airport, which, given its only 5 minutes drive would be a real plus. Especially as the taxi fare is a big rip off at 1000Rps /20euro one way. (900rps fixed from hotel to airport). Seems to be a bit of price rigging between the hotel and taxis. The 15 min drive to Maheburg was priced at around 40euro, which was the price we paid for a 1h10m trip from the airport to Trou aux biches....
The rooms do not have any USB charging points which is becoming essential these days. Remember your chargers and adapter plugs.
We took breakfast in the Ponte Vecchio, which was always excellent, however, even with two chefs on the egg station there is almost always a queue. Some work needed here to improve the process...perhaps a large plancher to cook multiple eggs/omelettes at a time??

Overall we had really lovely time and would hope to return.

So we were lucky enough to be able to stay on the serenity plus package for 3 wonderful weeks at the Shandrani hotel in Mauritius in Feb 2023.

Whilst we have been fortunate to stay in the hotel for short period of time on several occasions over the past few years, this was our first time staying there for a longer period of time.

I’m not going to repeat what others have said about the facilities this wonderful hotel offers, I’ll just give you a quick summary of our experience.

Firstly, whilst this hotel is in a beautiful setting, the food variety and choices are sublime, the vista is utter bliss, the stand out feature that the Shandrani has over and above the location and facilities are its staff. They are unbelievable.

No matter which dept of the hotel they worked for, the time of day or the query, without exception every single member of staff we met (and over the 3 weeks we met almost all of them) were warm, generous in their time, totally hospitable and an absolute credit to the hotel and to the Beachcomber company.

Their mantra ‘if you’re happy, then we are happy’ really was something that they live and breathe.

That said, in a place where customer service is at such a consistently high standard, there are still some stand out members of staff we would like to thanks:

Krishnee and Patrick – wonderful, friendly people who just brightens up a day in paradise with their contagious positive personalities. You both made the beach service you provided such a pleasure.

Artee and Nisha from the spa- Angels with magic skills for sure. Professional and skilful.

Viraj, Nanidee and Sewduth in the blue bay bar – excellent, intuitive and on point.

Veevanashee- who by now will be working at reception. A ray of sunshine, so professional, so funny and undoubtedly will be an absolute asset to the reception team.

Jayraj- an elder statesman of the hotel group having worked for them for 32 years – if you want to know what excellent service looks like, you will see it in action when you get some of the gourmet meals found anywhere in the hotel restaurants served to you by Jayraj.

Dave – an absolute gentleman who looked after our room with expertise and precision for our whole stay which included during a cat 3 cyclone.

Chandan – in the Grande Port. Doctor - we hope both of your new pairs of trainers are good. Thanks for all the fab wine recommends.

As has been said by others, the range of food at the grand port( buffet), the Ponte Vecchio restaurant ( Italian) , the Spanish restaurant, the Team elephant (Thai), the Sirius ( gourmet Mauritian) or the Boucannier (seafood) was consistently excellent. There was not a dish to be faulted and its good to see that the restaurants change the menus on a cyclical basis too so there is a lot of variety.

The entertainment was honestly exceptional. The range and quality of acts was out of this world and really did enhance our stay.

Whilst we were there, we experienced a cyclone. Having been to Mauritius a number of times previous, we’ve had the experience before but this hotel did not skip a beat in terms of ensuring that we still had a great holiday experience despite the weather.

Communication was regular, all staff provided reassurance in relevant information and even when we were unable to go to the Sirius restaurant due to the cyclone, the alternative option for us was great.

During this time the general manager was really visible and providing great leadership, direction and support to staff and guests alike but this was not just a one off. He was always visible and present in the hotel and this leadership style no doubt is one of the reasons why this felt like such a happy place to be.

Overall, out stay surpassed out already high expectation. We loved every minute of it and are already planning our next trip back.

Don’t think twice to book a holiday to this little piece of tropical heaven on earth… you’ll never want to go anywhere else 😊

Nestled in the serene southeast, this luxurious haven exceeded every expectation and left me in awe of what we, as a nation, have to offer.

Upon arrival, I was greeted with the warm, familiar smiles that make you feel instantly at home. The check-in process was seamless, and within moments, I was ushered into my Superior Room, which offered a stunning sea-facing view. The room itself was a blend of modern comfort and subtle Mauritian charm—spacious, impeccably clean, and thoughtfully designed to maximize the breathtaking views of the turquoise lagoon.

Waking up to the sound of gentle waves and the sight of the sun rising over the ocean was nothing short of magical. The room's private balcony became my sanctuary, where I could soak in the tranquility and the beauty of our island’s untouched nature.

The dining experience was a delightful journey through both local and international cuisines. Le Grand Port offered a variety of Mauritian delicacies that felt like home-cooked meals with a gourmet twist. Meanwhile, the other restaurants provided diverse options, from Mediterranean to Asian, all prepared with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients.

One of the highlights of my stay was the range of activities available. Whether it was exploring the vibrant marine life while snorkeling, enjoying a relaxing spa treatment at the tranquil Spa Beachcomber, or simply lounging on the pristine Blue Bay beach, there was always something to do. The resort’s commitment to eco-friendly practices was also commendable, making the experience feel responsible and sustainable.

The staff’s genuine warmth and attentiveness stood out throughout my stay. They anticipated my needs before I even voiced them and went out of their way to ensure I was comfortable and content. It’s this level of service that reminded me why Mauritian hospitality is renowned worldwide.

In conclusion, my stay at Shandrani Beachcomber was an unforgettable experience that left me proud to call this island home. Whether you are a local looking for a rejuvenating escape or a visitor seeking a taste of paradise, this resort offers the perfect blend of luxury, nature, and authentic Mauritian hospitality.

Bravo, Shandrani team! I look forward to returning soon.

This hotel is well located near the airport and between a turquoise lagoon and the Indian Ocean where the air is pure. I wasn't able to take advantage of all the beautiful outdoor spaces that exist, but I plan to come back.
The room is clean and the mattress comfortable. Kavi took good care of her with a smile and the legendary kindness of the Mauritians.
Two swimming pool areas allow us to choose our swimming or resting place. Carts are available every 10 minutes to transport us to the park.
The service is pleasant, depending on the person. A perfect welcome to the Italian restaurant and the seafood restaurant. The wines are excellent, mainly from South Africa. In the large room too, there is always room, but it is a somewhat dark space due to the thatched roof.
On the other hand, a little more stress at the Sirius restaurant at lunchtime probably due to high demand. I advise Dassoo to avoid reprimanding staff (in this case Andrew) in front of customers. We didn't like it, especially since young Andrew is learning and has good intentions. Fortunately Raj was attentive and reassured us. He's old school, you can tell.
We noticed that in the evening, at the concert bar, there were no available seats because the seats are placed for 4 and occupied by only a couple.
I suggest placing them in pairs with a small table so everyone can enjoy the show and the bar.
The store is really well appointed with magnificent and quality collections.
We both rented a day at sea on a boat from the hotel beach. It's more expensive than in a group, but we can adapt it to what we like. We snorkeled drifting above the corals of the marine park, saw dolphins, lots of fish, a pretty waterfall from which you can jump, ate a lobster and fish barbecue prepared by locals, on a romantic table for 2 , view along the beach on an island.
We also spent 2 days visiting the south with taxi guide Ramesh AUCKLOO, excellent, who speaks many languages distinctly and shows unusual places (rameshauckloo@yahoo.com).
We have excellent memories of our vacation and would like to return to this hotel, which I recommend.

Our stay at Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa was truly exceptional! As soon as we checked in we received a warm welcome from the staff and especially Mr. Michel Mackenzie. The latter made sure that we were fully satisfied with our room and each time he met us afterwards he would ask us if we needed anything. The employees of the resort were incredibly friendly and accommodating, going above and beyond to ensure our comfort. The room service was great: I had a cough and the staff got me slices of lemon and ginger, honey and a flask of hot water. The rooms were spotless, beautifully decorated, and equipped with everything we needed. The location was perfect, facing the lagoon and close to all the major attractions while still maintaining a peaceful atmosphere. We especially loved the delicious breakfast buffet with a wide variety of options. In the evening we had the choice of different restaurants with a variety of cuisine. The General Manager, Mr. Rico Paoletti greeted us with a bottle of wine and some delicious macarons. We are really touched by that warm welcome. Overall, a fantastic experience - we highly recommend the Shandrani hotel!.

Very nice 4-hour outing to the Mahebourg market supervised by Erwin and Patrick. The bike ride is accessible to everyone and only lasts a few kilometers. Just the distance to get to the market. The bikes are in good condition, the two instructors are professional, careful and attentive. A good time for beautiful memories for less than 500 rupees. The little extra. The stop at the supermarket on the way back which allows you to fill your suitcase with sugar, tea, honey and rum at a cheaper price than at the airport.

There is no denying this resort is in a stunning location-beautiful beaches and calm warm seas.
The room was spacious but in need of some TLC and some attention to details would really improve the experience.
There is only one glass in the room
The mini bar is basic and does not contain any alcohol. We asked if we could take wine to our room and told no!

The main restaurant is buffet style and whilst the food is good it is like a busy canteen! We opted therefore to eat in the other restaurants which had table service and therefore provided a better dining experience for us.

All the staff, however, without exception were helpful and friendly .

The inclusive package includes watersports and boat trips on glass bottom boat, and several sports activities which is good value.

Please be aware though that the hotel permits hawkers and other beach traders to be on the premises and they constantly try to sell you something!

As with all other venue throughout the world, there are limited sunbeds around the pool and people claim them early. There are adequate number on the beach though.
There is entertainment nightly 2x acts- varying standards

Overall a good experience but not 5*( by the way I am a retired hotel inpector)

We stayed 9 nights all inclusive. Our 2nd floor apartment, though a buy dated, was lovely. Very comfortable bed. As far as I can see, all rooms are sea facing. Food was excellent choice, included are nights at 4 speciality restaurants, all were good but Teak Thai food restaurant was best. We paid extra about £85 each for 2 courses, for a meal at Buccaneer restaurant. It's the most lobster I've ever eaten and all seafood very well presented and tasty. The private beaches are so relaxing and clean and the sea is wonderful with clear water, coral and snorkelling near the beach. Included in all inclusive were activities such as snorkelling, glass boat trips, kayaking, and for £20 we had a sailing lesson and then were left to sail. Great fun. Only downside is room service at night is slow and once - but it wad only a minor hiccup for a wonderful holiday. Hopefully, I will be coming back.

A dream vacation in paradise.
We visited the Shandrani Beachcomber from the end of October to the beginning of November. We had obviously hoped for a dream vacation beforehand and were not disappointed in any way. The service and above all the friendliness is exceptionally good. The food is good and varied, and there is typical food from a variety of countries every evening. The many different drinks are also very good.

What we didn't like so much, however, was the long queue for the pizzas and empty pots and pans when you went to eat at 6:30 p.m. sharp.

We would like to highlight the best bartender "Oumesh", with his friendly and funny manner and his good skills behind the bar, every drink tastes good. He also likes to surprise you with another delicious cocktail.

He even prepared a cocktail in a coconut for us. World class!

The water sports on offer were also very good, you could rent pedal boats, stand-up paddles, kayaks, etc. at any time and watch the beautiful coral reef and the odd turtle from above.

Rooms were good and every evening someone from room service came by and brought fresh towels and closed the curtains.

The complex is spacious and well maintained. The water is a dream and you can choose the right one for you from three beaches.

There is one negative aspect though: reserving loungers (on the beach). If you don't arrive on time or sleep a little longer, you won't get any good loungers because they're all already reserved. And if you do reserve some, some of the loungers are moved around, including the towels.

Apart from the last point, it was a very, very nice holiday that we will never forget.

The Shandrani is a beautifully landscaped hotel on a kind of peninsula below the airport (the about 15 taking off planes a day did not bother us at all.) Due to its special location, the hotel has four different beaches, from the small bay for snorkeling with direct very beautiful coral reef to the long wild beach, which is wonderful for swimming and walking, also the beach for water sports enthusiasts and the beach at the lagoon where water skiing can be done. We sometimes changed back and forth several times a day. There are plenty of loungers everywhere, but they are often blocked in the morning. Often we have observed that many hours no one has come - here the hotel has to m. E. acting, that was a nuisance.

Not to mention the good food in the restaurants (I'm very critical😁), the buffet in the main restaurant was always very good and varied, but of course it was always a bit spooky there, so we were happy to use the other restaurants (reserve on arrival!). We liked it in all but Ponte Veccio, we didn't like it there.

Highlights are the MTB tours offered, which we did with the Patrick guide at a small extra cost. On these tours we learned so much about flora and fauna, and saw so many great spots, that was fantastic. Thank you also for the numerous photos Patrick took of us during the tours.

The service staff are mostly very friendly, some more, some less motivated.

The water sports team also did a great job - the included water skiing was fantastic!

Small problems (we only had once), was immediately remedied.

The sports classes only took place in the morning, I would have liked one or the other class towards the evening.

The evening entertainment (music/party) was a bit too much for the French audience and you had the feeling it is the same music every night, so only the French stayed, a little more variety would have been nice.

Room service was great. The superior rooms for us sufficient in terms of equipment, the deluxe rooms having the more attractive locations, so we will book one of these next time!

Conclusion: beautiful hotel with many leisure activities, we will book it again as we also liked the island very much.
