Perfect choice, everything was clean, with good public access to Lamu tow. Very spacious rooms and very attentive staff. The hotel is located right on the beach so great place to wind down & watch the sunset. I was particularly impressed by the different barsin the hotel, gave us lots to choose from. Unfortunately I had to check out early, but if I visit to Lamu another time, I like to stay here again."

Hotel's Favorite
Fabulous family friendly property. Stayed here for 3 nights. Right from the meeting at the airstrip to check in and wait staff. All excellent and attentive. The hotel wasn’t full so that was an advantage. Food is world class and whilst they have a limited vegetarian menu, they tried to make whatever we asked for. Remember this is an island and not all foodstuff requests d will be readily available so you have to be accommodating. We stayed in a junior suite which was nice but smaller than junior suites I have stayed in other properties. The bathroom was also on the smaller side. However you don’t really spend time in the room as the resort has many activities (in the resort ) and in the bay. Angelo and his team are doing a fantastic job. Well done team Majlis.

A Magical pearl at the Indian Ocean. We are coming at least twice per year to Majlis and truly love this place, we feel welcomed like at home and have made lasting relations with many staff members, they are kind and helpful while always trying to improve our experience. They are attentive to details and know how to make me and my family feel special. We highly recommend also to try the outstanding and fresh local food well presented in the Restaurants or the pool or Sunset Bar. Don’t miss to order the Tuna Tartar or my personal favourite Dorado Carppacho while watching one of the most unique sunset over Shella. Next day ask one of the Captains to take you to visit historical Taiwan Ruins where you will learn to appreciate the history of Manda and it’s Roots still now influencing Majlis Sustainability efforts to save water and energy. We highly recommend Majlis to all our friends since years and will come back every year. Ps: Last but not last this place would not be the same without the mastermind in the back Enrico (aka Kikko).

The property is no doubt beautiful with lovely beach front and multiple pools and bars. Our trip to Lamu began with a terrible start as there was no one to pick us up from Majlis. No guest relations, no Porter and no boat (and the only way to reach Manda island from Lamu is via boat). After waiting quite a while (and thanks to a helpful man at Lamu airport) we were able to find someone at the Majlis resort and request a boat as it seems they forgot (our travel agent had confirmed with them our arrival that morning itself!). Quite a wait later someone arrived. Once we arrived at our room we discovered no hot water in the bathrooms despite the five star status of the hotel. In the restaurant, I had pieces of plastic in my soup at dinner (no apologies for this) and despite ordering a vegetarian meal I was served meat (no apologies again). That night the air conditioner in the rooms was leaking and it was terribly uncomfortable — of course the reception here closes around midnight so there’s no one to reach to check on this. The bar team is kind and helpful and happy to meet your requirements. On check out it was a repeat of our arrival experience where despite triple checking on the availability of a boat taxi to drop us off in time for our flight, at the required time there was no boat available and we almost missed our flight. The GM claimed that it was not her responsibility that the food had plastic pieces because her F&B manager was on leave apparently. It also took us by surprise that the GM offered a less than genuine apology (if you could even call it that on our final day at breakfast) said she had been trying to reach us but was unsuccessful (!!) — the property is on an island, and every hotel literally has passport and contact info of every guest. Could even slip a note under the door if you want to be old school since they rooms here don’t have phones. Overall a pathetic experience. We have checked out, and are yet to hear any sort of meaningful apology or remorse. Terrible service culture set here from the front desk to the general manager and certainty no culture is hospitality.

I had a nice, relaxing holiday experience at The Majlis on Manda. The room was nice and kept very clean most of the time (there was a disruption during the visit of some government people, when all the staff had to focus on that group) Unfortunately there was a lot of construction work going on, so the beach was swarmed with workers. There was no effort made to separate the construction from the guests eg. with wooden walls as would be normal in most other places in the world. The sunset bar and pool are definitely recommended with very attentive staff. Beware, cocktails are huge and they do not compromise on the alcohol content 😀 I also got stuffed with "bitings" together with the sundowners. The restaurant is also a very nice place. You will have to fight for your bread with the resident weaver birds. Food was ok, but got a lot better at the end of my stay which made me think that it was beginning of the season and the real chef just arrived. One downturn: The wooden doors to the rooms are a piece of art. However, it is not possible to open or close them without a loud bang. So you will only sleep well once the last guest in your building returned to the room. This is not 5 Star, but if you manage to get a good rate, it is highly recommended

Pros - Prompt pick up from the airport - Room was good with sea views. - Great food available for lunch and dinner, including a good mix of sea food and meat dishes. - Staff were always ready to offer assistance. - The secluded beach makes it ideal for couples and people who want peace and quiet - lots of excursions and activities on offer by the hotel including trips to various towns, game safaris and water sports.

We had the best time here. Boniface and Ramah were great. The hotel accommodated our wheel chair bound elder with a lot of respect and finesse. Staff were always ready to push, lift and carry to ensure we could access all the facilities. We look forward to returning.

Here’s a summary of what to expect for anyone planning to visit The Majilis ..The rating deserves a 5/5 but i gave it a four and here’s why: 1. Ambiance; very beautiful and picture worthy !Cleanliness is highly maintained in the whole establishment. Restaurants and bars very clean. Pools also clean. The rooms are well maintained with beautiful woodwork and unique art pieces.Honestly the most beautiful beach property i’ve seen in Kenya! 2. Food; we paid for half board therefore we were always dining in the main restaurant( they have two restaurants). The restaurant always had a nice set-up.Food is very good, the waiters were attentive and ready to assist . 3.Service: from the pick up at the airport to the reception, warm welcome to being shown your rooms. They have the best workers here. The housekeepers were helpful and particularly patient with us..The masseuse very professional and well skilled, Dario the water sports guy was very helpful with organising boat trips and *Erasmus was quick to attend to us while we relaxed on the beach beds. However despite having the best workers, i felt there was a big fault with the Italian management.. one time in the main restaurant i could tell it was busy because our dessert was taking long to arrive but the whole management sat comfortably on one table eating and chatting ofcourse unawares and unbothered by the current happenings. Not one time during our stay did we have the senior stuff acknowledge our presence / welcome us or bid us good bye. Maybe they are all new on the job .We also felt that the staff are not so well treated here, no happy faces. 4. Sunset Bar: Never miss a sunset & a sundowner at this bar! Beautiful indeed. Having said that, the Kenyan Coast is very hot. Carry your sunscreen with atleast an SPF 50 and above. The ride from Manda Bay airport to the property is one of a kind. Book a room with an ocean view and make sure to book a massage session!
