Travelers' Choice
Inn at Taughannock Falls is located in Trumansburg, New York, just 9 miles from downtown Ithaca and Cornell University. This stunning estate, expanding across 12 open acres, overlooks Cayuga Lake. The property features four buildings comprised of 24 guest rooms and suites, one of the best restaurants in the area, and the region's premier outdoor event venue. Surrounded by Taughannock Falls State Park, which hosts the tallest waterfall on the east coast, a 215-foot vertical drop, is easily accessible by our hotel guests. The park also includes a variety of activities such as hiking, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, water skiing, and more. The Inn at Taughannock is a famous landmark, servicing the community since 1935. Originally built in 1873, the entire first floor of the Victorian mansion is dedicated to the Inn’s fine dining restaurant, which features a traditional American cuisine with a Mediterranean influence. We offer a variety of accommodations from classic Victorian architecture filled with antiques to modern rooms with conveniences such as flatscreen TVs, refrigerators, Keurig coffee machines, and microwaves. Our recently renovated Hillside Residence offers 6 bedrooms and sleeps 12 in comfort. The Le Grande Suite offers a fully outfitted kitchen and huge family room with a pool table. Hillside may be rented by the room or in its entirety for a group to enjoy. Located at the start of the Cayuga wine trail, the Inn is located in the heart of the idyllic Finger Lakes region, with over 100 wineries within a half-hour from our location. The Inn at Taughannock has just completed construction on a 10,000 square foot event garden called “Enchantment," an elegant setting with majestic stone fireplace, numerous fire pits and a Gatsby style translucent sailcloth tent, capable of handling any size event. We offer tours of this venue, year-round, which operates from May to October. Please join us and experience our exceptional customer service which has earned 5-star reviews.

The Inn at Taughannoch is a bed and breakfast and fine dining restaurant in a beautiful Victorian house overlooking Cayuga Lake. The restaurant has been in operation since the 1940s. I first went there for very special occasions as a Cornell student in the mid-1980s. On a recent weekend, I was pleasantly surprised to find it just as I remembered. Excellent food is served in an elegant, old-fashioned, yet relaxing environment. The Finger Lakes are a major wine producing region so, naturally, offerings from local vineyards are on the menu. Take the opportunity to try something new. The grounds are lovely and in warm weather one can eat outdoors. Having said that, I have to admit that my rack of lamb was very difficult to cut, even with a sharp knife and a fair amount of force. Oddly, it was not difficult to chew. Everything else in our three course meal was very good to excellent and the dessert, carrot cake, was large enough for two people to share. I’m planning to return.

For our annual “Big Trip” we stayed at the Inn on our 2nd night of our 10-night tour of New York and Vermont. The nicely restored 1880’s Victorian Mansion sits majestically on the hill overlooking Cayuga Lake, and adjoins the State Park with the big waterfall. A perfect home base for exploring the area. Our trips usually combine Historic B & B’s / boutique hotels with middle of the road chains. We loved everything about this Inn, especially the great service, extreme,y nicely done grounds, and of course beautiful view with easy access to the adjoining State Park. While sitting outside we were pleased to meet and visit with Carl, the owner. He gave us a tour of the grounds and we enjoyed learning from him his vision for this property and some improvements he has made. He recently installed a big (and very sturdy) tent to serve as an event venue, which would be perfect for weddings. The restaurant on the lower level is very nice and provides an outstanding view of the lake. We loved the Inm.

Friendly staff, nice breakfast considering that these are COVID times in a lovely room over looking the lake, adjacent to the park, enjoyed hanging out at the fire pit with the other guests in the evening. We stayed in a park view room. It is a cabin like structure with 3 rooms very close to the Inn. The Gorge and South Rim trail heads are 75 feet away. We liked the decor in our room. It was clean and quaint.

The Inn at Taughannock is a great place to have a nice relaxing vacation either with a significant other, friend, or as a family get-a-way. The Inn is located right across from Taughannock Falls State Park and is just 15-20 minutes from Ithaca, NY. There are beautiful wineries and farms dotting the Cayuga landscape and boat cruises that take you across the lake during the day or evening. The Hillside residence was a lovely place to stay and the Victoria House is absolutely beautiful! It overlooks Cayuga Lake! The staff of the inn are very nice and the grounds are clean and well-kept. I would suggest anyone go and stay even if its just for a few nights.

I booked a Friday - Sunday stay with two friends. We booked the Hillside Two-bedroom Suite. Unexpectedly, one friend got COVID and was quite sick. Booking & Check-in: We were offered the option to rebook without loosing our 50% deposit. Unfortunately, the room was unavailable until 4+ months later and at a higher rate. So as not to lose my deposit, we decided to make it a two-person trip. I called the front desk and asked if we could downgrade our room to a Double that I saw was available online for a lower rate and the agent could not understand my request. After 3 attempts to explain it to her I decided it would be better to try in person. When we arrived, however, we were told "it had been scooped up." At check-in we were not provided with a map of the property or of the area. The Room: One bedroom did not have blinds and only had sheer white curtains. The blinds in the other bedroom did were missing parts and could not be closed or opened. There are no blackout curtains. There is only one garbage can in the suite. The fan in the bathroom cannot be turned off and is quite loud. The Service/Amenities: It should be noted that the waterfall is 0.75 miles from the hotel (more than "steps" in my opinion). We sat around a fire closer to the main building one evening (4 women: two in their 20s and two in their 40s) and were told by the owner that we needed to go to our rooms. The firepit pictured on the website (further from the building) was not hooked up so we didn't even have that option. There was also a HUGE wedding structure being built adjacent to the main building that obscured much of the scenery. My travel companion has 10+ years of experience in hospitality. While the location is idyllic, I will not be returning. The check-in process was frustrating, the room and amenities were substandard, and the owner was insulting.
