Detailed Reviews
I would highly recommend this bed and breakfast, and can't wait for a chance to return myself! My husband and I stayed for six nights, shortly after it reopened following the pandemic. John was such a pleasure to deal with...very conscientious, careful, and helpful. The house's eclectic decorations are so much fun to check out and the room we stayed in was beautiful and comfortable. By far and away, though, the best parts of our stay were the amazing breakfasts and John's company. The food was amazing and John was obviously listening carefully to understand my preferences so he could make breakfasts that I would thoroughly enjoy. And since my husband and I were the only guests in the house at the time, we were able to enjoy John's undivided attention and company, sharing stories and lingering over coffee each morning. Absolutely one of the best bed and breakfasts I've ever stayed at

Staying with John feels like staying with an old friend. His hospitality is matched only by his delicious breakfasts. We drove up from the city to celebrate my wife’s birthday and John provided a cake and stayed up talking with us to wish her happy birthday at midnight. His daily breakfasts are tastier than even the most popular brunch spots here in NYC. We stayed in the Josephine Baker room, which provided a comfortable night’s sleep. The en-suite bathroom was beautiful and great for taking a nice soak at the end of the day. John’s put a lot of love and detail into creating a comfortable environment. The Inn is very clean, and we felt safe staying during COVID. He sanitized our room from top to bottom before we arrived and waits 72 hours between guests. John also makes himself available for conversations and advice for what to do in the area. Amazing place to stay!!

Spectacular in all regards. John, inn-keeper and owner, made me feel very comfortable. He meet me at the door, driveway actually, and showed me in and through the home. He offered me a bevarage and got me settled in immediately. His suggestion for dinner was perfect. My doggie bag was promptly deposited in frig and i headed upstairs to a most delightful sleep
Bed was the most comfortable I have slept in in many months. Pillows just right, comforter fluffy and fresh and room was very quiet. Hated to see morning disturb my slumber.
Breakfast in the kitchen with John was topnotch. Superb omlet, coffee (fresh brewed decaf) excellent and bacon. Great conversation to boot.
The home is a 200 yr old farm housebuilt to the highest standards. Be sure to see the amazing hardwood floors, molding and 9 ft ceilings. The radiators put out the most perfect consistent heat without banging and clanking. I needed a week at least to go through all the rooms studying the most eclectic furnishings.
Price was spot on. I will revisit Troy just spend another night in the John Waters room. Most highly recommended without reservation!

Though we only had one night available to stay at the Gardner Farm Inn, we really enjoyed the Inn and especially our host, John, and his sweet greyhounds. Our room in the back of the house was quiet and nicely appointed with a king-sized bed and huge updated bathroom. The bedding was very comfortable and the towels were soft and large. John let us know the wifi was spotty in our room but stepping into the hallway provided better reception. John has decorated the home with many conversation pieces. With a shared love of antiquing and thrifting, I could have spent hours asking him about the different works of art and decorative items throughout the house. Breakfast of lemon-curd infused French toast topped with blueberries and dusted with powdered sugar was truly delicious. We drove into nearby Albany to take a guided tour of the New York State Capitol Building and the Museum across the street (recommended). If we get to visit again, we will definitely stay at the Gardner Farm Inn. Make reservations directly with John, if possible.

The Garden Farm Inn is a beautiful bed and breakfast in a historic home in Troy, NY. The home has been lovingly restored/renovated into a very warm and welcoming bed and breakfast that is comfortable and homey. I stayed in the Josephine Baker suite, which was beautiful, spacious and very comfortable. If you love antiques, you will be in heaven here. The room has an amazing claw-foot tub, which was perfect for a good soak. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and found the owner, John to be as warm and welcoming as his b&b. He contacted me while I was en route and offered to make dinner reservations for me at a local restaurant, which was very good, invited me to share wine with he and his friends, and got up early to make me a breakfast that was incredible. I cannot say enough good things about this b&b and its proprietor. I am already planning on staying again next year when traveling to Maine.

We stayed here for a long weekend anniversary trip, and the pictures don't do it justice. The inn is located in a relatively quiet area that is still close to downtown Troy. John greeted us immediately with the resident canine innkeepers, Nigel and Margaret, and offered suggestions for restaurants and things to check out while we're in town. The inn is filled with eclectic art and historical pieces that make it feel very homey. Each room has a theme with decor that is relevant but understated. We stayed in the Josephine Baker room which was very spacious with a full en suite bathroom. Breakfast was amazing and prepared fresh by John daily! He asked us upfront about any food allergies or other considerations, really made a point to help us feel at home in the area, and every recommendation he made was on point. If you're looking for a quirky, historical home to stay in for a few nights, this is the place for you!

We traveled to New York to sight see and my husband booked time here at the inn…. What an amazing place to stay! The food was beyond exquisite and every detail was well thought out. The entire atmosphere is very conducive to meeting new friends and relaxing around the table or on the patio. We laughed and enjoyed talking to people we just met and thought how this was surely the best place we had ever stayed.
While we rarely return to cities we have visited because of the places we want to visit, we are already talking about returning to this B &B simply for the warm reception, fabulous room, and scrumptious food.
This was the best vacation we have ever taken.

+1
The house is grand, beautiful, and charming! We stayed in the Josephine Baker room which was spacious, calming, and featuring a wonderful claw foot soaking tub! John is an amazing host and was so warm, welcoming and accommodating. He made us delicious breakfasts this morning and had great recommendations for the area.
We came for a nature/hiking and fall foliage trip. I would recommend checking out nearby Peebles Island and Thatcher State Park for hiking. Definitely go to the Saturday farmer's market!
The icing on top of the cake were John's sweet and loving greyhounds, Margaret and Nigel !
Overall great bed and breakfast stay with an amazing host and fur babies. Thanks, John!

The Gardner Farm Inn was the perfect place for a get away to celebrate special birthdays this past weekend! Our amazing host, John, is a dear friend from college and I was so excited to stay at his B&B with my sisters and friends. We booked all 5 of the spacious bedrooms and were in awe with the uniqueness and comfort of each room! They are decorated with a variety of historic décor and antique furniture. John shared fun stories about the creation of each room and the history of his charming Inn.
His precious rescue greyhounds, Margert and Nigel, welcomed our offers of belly rubs us as we came and went over the weekend.
John's culinary skills are amazing and he provided our crew with homemade, scrumptious breakfasts, hot coffee and wonderful conversation.
The Gardner Farm Inn deserves more than 5 stars! Clean, spacious, cozy and full of the comforts of home! We plan on booking more stays with John for future celebrations and weekend getaways! See you soon John! Thanks for helping us create our wonderful weekend of memories with the FitzMarvin family and friends crew!

John was so friendly and accommodating. His inn is gorgeously decorated with interesting antiques and photos. I got to play his recently tuned grand piano. We also got to meet and make friends with his two sweet greyhounds: Margaret and Nigel. We stayed in the Josephine Baker room, the master suite with a beautiful claw foot tub! John made us breakfast with coffee, fresh berries and freshly baked, flavorful frittata and bacon. John’s inn was a perfect retreat from NYC apartment living. We will definitely be back! Thank you, John!
