Stay Report - 9/23 to 9/24
Location: The hotel is located across Waverly Avenue from the Syracuse University Campus. It's about a 15 minute drive from SYR and maybe 8-10 minutes from Downtown Syracuse. Nearby is an active college campus so there are crowds and noise and a ton of kids (be careful driving near the bars, they were spilling onto the road on Thursday night) as well as a ton of restaurants and bars and stores you can walk to. There's also a lot of street parking
Hotel: The hotel is an older property and in some ways it feels dated. There's an adjacent and connected parking garage with self parking costing $16 a day. There's a large lobby which has a business center, a small coffee shop, a small gift shop and a restaurant which is open for breakfast and dinner. There's also an indoor pool. Best of all there's a club lounge on the 9th floor which is open. The hallways are a little ill lit and dated but there were no waits for elevators.
Check In: I had a long wait at 11 PM because there was only a single agent on duty. Thankfully once I was helped by him he was very friendly and helpful and mentioned I'd been upgraded to the Club Floor. Â
Room: Older but still comfortable. As you can see from the photos it screams 20 years ago. The important thing was the Wifi worked well, there were outlets near the bed and the shower got hot. Also there were no noise issues which I really appreciated. Plus I had great views of the campus.
Lounge: Small but well appointed. TV area, single computer with printer and eating area. It's open 6:30 to 9:30 AM daily for breakfast. Breakfast options included scrambled eggs, sausage, cereal, bagels, English Muffins, fruit and yogurt. Plus coffee and soda all day.
Overall a nice hotel. I appreciate the elite recognition and the lounge. I'd be back.

We enjoyed our stay here very much despite a few issues. The room was comfortable and the view was lovely. The decor could definitely use a refresh and renovation, as it was pretty old and tired. The TV was a flat screen but an older model and kind of small. Products in the shower were good - I appreciate the large bottles on the wall instead of little travel sized ones. My son complained about the water pressure though. Two of the elevators were out of service due to the sprinkler system in the lobby having gone off and causing a flood, which was a bit of a hassle, but not the hotel's fault. The restaurant in the lobby was surprisingly good. We were there for Accepted Students day at Syracuse and the location could not be beat- right across from campus and half a block from Marshall Street where all the restaurants and shops are. We will definitely stay here again when my son attends next year and will bring our dog! Love that it is dog friendly! I do wish that the coffee in the lobby was free. I was mistakenly told by the night desk clerk that it was, only to find out in the morning I had to pay for it at the Starbucks concession area. Even worse, there was a huge line to pay when all the families were getting ready to leave. I had already bought a coffee earlier and my husband had used both the free packets in the room. I wanted another coffee but didn't have time to wait. I asked for another free packet and the desk clerk said he would have housekeeping bring it up. Didn't have time to wait so I said I would skip it. The other desk clerk went and got me a free coffee and brought it to me at the elevator! I really appreciated that! Also, there is a charge for parking.

Very helpful check-in clerk and another friendly clerk at checkout the next morning. Touring the SU campus which is literally across the street. The check in clerk even gave us a campus map the night before. The hotel is dated but the room was fairly good. I could hear people talking as they walked down the hall outside our room. Nice bartender gave me samples of a couple of IPAs I hadn't heard of before ordering. The parking garage is cramped, probably due to the great location. The very close restaurants on Marshall were low-end, but appropriate for college students (Chipotle seemed to be the nicest restaurant by far and wish we tried the Irish pub around the corner). I'd be curious to see this place on big SU game night.

Happiness793951, Thank you for staying with during your recent travels to Syracuse. We appreciate you providing your feedback regarding your stay, as it is used to help make improvements, where needed, and motivate our associates when positive comments are left. I am happy that all the associates you encountered were friendly and professional. It is a big party on game days. Please stay with us during a game. Faegan"s Pub, the Irish Pub around the corner, is a nice and popular with SU Students and locals alike. We do look forward to your next visit.

Had a very nice stay at this Sheraton. It is an older property that's definitely showing its age, but still very clean with large, comfortable rooms. Besides some dated and worn decor, the only specific complaint I have about the rooms is that the TVs are very old. We had two King Rooms and each one had a different 15ish year old TV (update: I was informed by the hotel that they are in the process of replacing them all). The property has a small but very nice gym and a large pool area. Perhaps the biggest plus is the location, right across the street from the center of the university campus. Staff was great, always friendly and helpful. The man working the desk during the day was even able to source me an umbrella during a freak midday rain storm (gotta love Syracuse weather) which was much appreciated.
All in all a good stay, would definitely stay again if I was in town!

First the best thing about this hotel is location...
BUT.....
Let me tell you about the room itself.
The bed seemed old and was so noisy every time my husband turned over we thought the bed was going to break it was so LOUD.
The pillows (ALL 4) were so DISGUSTING I sprayed them down with Lysol. There were NO pillow case covers on them and they were yellow and FLAT as a pancake. The shower head in the bathroom had very little pressure and looked to be very old.
The so called cafe in the hotel was never open during hours stated.
One would think for the amount you are charged for a room the room and bedding would be emaculant. Very disappointed.
Also I think the hotel should comp some of the cost of your breakfast... Because $18 for one person is a little much.
Next time I'll skip the location convenience and go to a hotel with clean fluffy pillows and 24/7 fresh coffee in the lobby and a great free breakfast like a Hampton.

Annette, Thank you for staying with us. I am sincerely sorry for what you experienced while staying with us. I have shared your comments with our Housekeeping leaders regarding the condition of your room. I agree this is below yours and our standards and we will work on getting the concerns corrected. I will also confer with the Food and Beverage team regarding the hours of the LinK Cafe, as I was not aware it was closed between the hours of 7am to 12pm. This will be corrected as well. Your feedback is valuable and appreciated as we utilize it to make the hotel better for everyone.

My son and I stayed at the Sheraton prior to attending a Syracuse University open house. This hotel is right on campus, so the location could not be better. They also have a parking garage attached where you can park your car for a fee and keep it throughout the day of your check out. We were lucky that we were able to get an affordably rate, as I've heard that rates increase dramatically during popular visiting times. Our room was spacious, clean, and fairly quiet. Next time, we will request a room that is not as close to the elevator. We ate dinner and breakfast in the hotel restaurant, and both were adequate. We would definitely stay here again, just for the location.

Tired and worn decor/carpets, uncomfortable and small double beds, terrible pillows, bad housekeeping. Every time I walked to my room I noticed dirty trays and plates and cups. It also looks like they do not vacuum very often. The location to campus is the best and it was super convenient to walk across the street to the student center. Though I’m not sure I would stay here again.

What a gem this older Marriott, in its prime location, is!! Although an older building, on a university campus nonetheless, this Marriott offers charm, hospitality, and a beautiful ambiance of local history! Most importantly, the staff is gracious, friendly, and treats guests with a sense of joy and welcome! The catering, in particular, was some of the most effective, efficient, and gracious I have ever seen, and I have traveled to conferences all over the US in the last 25 years. In particular, the young lady managing the Concierge Room, Arnez in Catering, and Jay at the evening front desk went out of their way to see my stay was exceptional. This does not include all the wonderful staff and housecleaning I did not have the opportunity to meet until now. You will love this spot, the amenities, and the service!

We were visiting colleges and made a last minute decision to see Syracuse. We booked the hotel 24 hours in advance, and Janet at the front desk (front office manager) was able to give us an upgrade to what they call a parlor room. (We are platinum elite members) We so appreciate her help; it was a fantastic room. When we checked in, we had a very nice woman (sorry I don't remember her name) answer all our questions, point out the hotel amenities, and give us walking directions to where we wanted to go) I don't understand all the negative comments. Yes, the hotel is a bit older, but the room was large, the bed/pillows were comfortable, the Club Lounge was good for hors d'oeuvres at night and a quick breakfast in the morning, everybody in the hotel was friendly and helpful. (The club lounge offers free water bottles, soft drinks and snacks all day long.) And the location for a Syracuse visit is PERFECT. The hotel is on the campus. So we could walk right to admissions to start the tour; we left our car in the hotel parking garage. Incredibly convenient. We did hear that after May 2024, Syracuse is turning the hotel into student housing, so that's really a shame. If you are visiting before that, I highly recommend this hotel. It helped make our visit terrific!

The pros: great proximity/easy walk to Syracuse U, connected parking garage at reasonable price, staff all friendly and helpful. The cons: shabby! Needs a complete rehab. Everything just looks and feels worn and grungy. Our room def hadn’t been vacuumed thoroughly, wood doors were chipped and scratched, knobs/pulls missing, etc-just in need of TLC. Lobby area chairs/sofas were dirty-some to the extent that the arms are actually black with dirt. Walls are paper thin and you hear everything. Would not probably stay here again but for the need to be close to the U.

Yes. I was there with a conference and it was supposed to be complementary but they didn't apply it.
