THE GOOD
The horseback riding was very nice, well run, with great horses and super friendly staff! They had options for new riders, little kids, and bigger kids. We were able to ride every day. Plus, the kids could feed two cute goats.

The location is a beautiful riverside valley. You can sit by the river and watch the sunrise of the nearby ridge. That far north, the Hudson is pristine enough you can sit on the river bank and watch the submerged grasses wave in the current from 30 feet away.

They have free kayaks and paddle boards in abundance so you can take them out whenever you want. The water was calm enough that I let my 6 year old have their own kayak.

Camping vibes with a nice firepit and chairs by the river.

THE BAD
My son has a TREE nut allergy and our table was labelled "peanut allergy." This could seem like an innocent mixup. But it worried me that they're not careful about allergies.

We travelled with a celiac. The kitchen kept forgetting about this person's allergy and even gave them a hard time because we didn't remind them at. every. meal.

Meal times were very late for little kids (e.g., 6:30 PM dinner). A lot of little kids go to bed at 8, so that's pretty late. There were no fruit bowls or vending machines to grab something to tide you over.

When I asked the owner if we could get the kids meals out first, he was _very_ angry with me. A lot of restaurants will offer kids' food to come out first without asking. So I'm not sure why my request set him off.

1,000 Acres Horse Ranch is a piece of heaven in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains. The owner and the staff are very friendly and very helpful. They cater to all your needs. The horses are well taken care of and very easy to ride whether you are a novice, intermediate or an expert horse back rider. There are so many fun activities to do such as painting, games, swimming in an indoor pool or an outdoor pool with a waterfall in the large outdoor pool. There is also a smaller outdoor pool and very clean. My husband and I call 1,000 Acres our happy place and we will often visit the ranch two or three times a year. We usually stay for three days at a time and the rates are very reasonable. It is family oriented and such a fun and wonderful vacation for anyone. The cabins are beautiful and well taken care of and very clean. They have a large garden of flowers and veggies. They are even building a chicken coop on the property. The Red Door Saloon on the property is a fun place to relax and dance to bands and or the jukebox. You will love your stay there as we do. Happy, happy, vacationing at 1,000 Acres Horse Ranch. Also pets are welcomed too. Sharon and Bruce Frederick

I have been a guest of this Resort for 37 years. This past time was very unpleasant. Maybe because of Covid and the rules they need to follow made things change. The rooms are very nice and clean and the food is good. Breakfast time was very late for me (9:00 am) and when I asked if anything could be done about it, the manager screamed at me. I asked in the office if I could maybe have some yogurt or cereal they said, "No". My sister and her husband arrived a day later around lunchtime and they wouldn't let them get lunch. They had to leave and go someplace else to get something to eat. They have beautiful horse trails and beautiful horses to ride but wasn't able to enjoy it as much. You used to be able to get a nice ride in and then if there was another ride, you could go again if there was a horse available. Now you have to pay extra ($30). Overall very disappointed at the coldness of the office staff and their total lack of trying to make my stay pleasant. I had booked for a week and left after 1 day.

My Daughter and I just got back from an amazing time at the Ranch. The whole staff is an amazing they made us feel like we were family from the begging. We are horseback riders and we can’t say enough great things about Brittany and Brandie. Brittany the barn manager is amazing she will do whatever it takes to make your riding experience enjoyable. They cater to the beginner to the advanced. Brittany and Brandie both love the horses and they take such great care of them it shows the horses are all so well behaved. We had the opportunity to go on an extended ride with Brittany all I can say it was amazing I have been riding for 50 years and this had to be one of my favorite rides. Brittany really made it special for us. Brittany and Brandie really made it a great time for us, we did slow, medium and fast rides and all the rides were spectacular it was really impressive to watch them help the beginners and still keep the advance riders entertained. The food was also very good you get three meals and it is all great. In the morning they give you a continual breakfast at 7 before the sit-down breakfast begins at 8:30 what a great idea for the few of us that get up early I loved having my coffee looking out over the mountains and river. They have breathtaking views all around I recommend taking them in. The bar they have on the grounds is absolutely gorgeous it’s a family bar with games like ping pong foosball air hockey etc. There is a big dance floor and the bar. There were kids singing karaoke kids and adults playing games it was just a great family bar with all having a great time. We love this place and will come back again and again we are already planning on coming back in September. The staff is amazing they all work so hard to give you a great experience and will go out of their way to make sure you have a great time. But we have to give a really big thank you to Brittany and Brandie they made us feel so welcome and gave us such great rides we really appreciate that. The barn manager Britany has to be the best barn manager I have ever seen, she matches you up to your horse so you have a great ride she knows all the horses so well. She cares so much for the horses and wants you to have an amazing time that it shows, thank you Brittany and thank you to the staff at 1000 Acres we found a home thank you.

This was a spontaneous trip for us and we got way more than what we bargained for. We were there from October 16 -19 and got to enjoy the amazing fall foliage. They offered a wide variety of activities throughout the ranch that no day was the same! We kayaked down the hudson river, hiked the hadley mountain trail and of course rode horses every morning according to our given time slot (usually in the morning). The cabin was comfortable and cozy, but keep your expectations realistic...it's a cabin. You're not getting marble floors with brushed gold faucets.
All the staff from Cynthia at the front desk to Cassidy/Melanie at the stables and Shawn the chef were all so helpful and friendly. Though it's only been a year since the new owner, Brandon, took over the ranch you can tell the time and heart he puts into interacting with his guests and making sure everyone enjoys their time. Thank you for an unforgettable getaway! We'll be back!

Anyone Looking for a great place to go during this time in our lives, and even during normal times, this is a place to go. There are so many words that could be used to describe the place, the staff, the accommodations, and the beautiful setting along the Hudson River. From the moment we got there it was nonstop fun, relaxation, non stop activities, good food, great hospitality and so much more. Horseback riding every day. There was so much food at every meal that if you left the table hungry it was your own fault. I could go on and on about the place and the staff because it was the best from beginning to end. I was really sad when our time to leave had come way too soon. My bags will always be packed to return to the 1000 Acres Ranch. See ya all real soon.😀😀😀 and love to all the staff. You are the best.

We arrived during a change of management.

We would say that there has been under-investment for a few years, and a distinct lack of vision, but the current managers are trying to turn that around! Accommodation is basic, but the location, wranglers, waiters and bar staff really want to make it work. A great Dude ranch in the US should be like a finely-tuned Safari experience in Africa - harmony of place, people and animals. Bottom line, we paid over the odds for what it was, but these guys are on a journey and we hope they make it.

I came here on a family vacation as a child in the mid 1990s. I had such a fun time and so many great memories that decades later I came back with my wife and it was like I never left. Our first couples trip was in the summer of 2020. A lot was going on in the world at this time and when we arrived to the Ranch it was like everything going on in the country and world disappeared. This is the best place to take a vacation to get away from whatever you need to get away from.
It is peaceful and beautiful sitting on the Hudson
River in the Adirondack Mountains. Whether you
know how to ride or not, you will enjoy the scenery
on a horse matched to your abilities.
The food is included in the packages and is served family style some nights, and the other nights, you only have to decide between 2 entrees each night, my wife and I love it!! A few time my wife and I would take our breakfast or lunch to go and we would kayak on the river to a spot and have a picnic. We have found some nice trails and waterfalls.
The rustic feel of the accommodations is what we
like best. At night, there is always something going on at the Red Dog Saloon, which is very family friendly.
Pools, hot tubs, tennis courts, volleyball net,
softball, horseshoes and line dancing will fill any free time you might have.
All in all, this is the perfect place to relax on
vacation. My wife and I had such a fun time together in 2020 that we are making the Ranch an annual getaway trip for us. This was our third time staying and it has gotten better each year. To all the staff, keep up the great work, we look forward to see you again soon.

From the moment we stepped on the property grounds we could feel this place has an energy like no other. The ranch offers a harmonious mix of lively activities (kayaking, karaoke, hikes, horseback rides), nurturing food, and downtime (jacuzzi, stargazing by the bonfire). We really enjoyed the daily horseback rides, all horses were super well trained and cared for!

The staff was warm and friendly - the marshmallow welcome kit was such a sweet touch. I feel like we walked in as guests and left feeling like family. Brandon, Cynthia, Shawn, and all the staff made us feel right at home.

If you're looking to disconnect from the city hustle look no further. We've only visited in the fall, but I can't wait to return in the spring.

Better than ever! We were there in the 90's when our son was small, now back with his wife and son. Three trips in four years. ...BETTER THAN EVER! The cabins have been redone - immaculate, the food is like a resort restaurant - in presentation and flavor, Indoor and outdoor pools look fabulous. With or without the horse back riding, there is plenty to do. Our 12 yr old grandson said these trips to "the ranch" are better than Disney World! We agree. Here we get to connect without the hustle and bustle, and spend time as a family. Priceless!!!!

Hello, Thank you for your message. I hope this isn't too late. But you can pay separately for things such as: horseback riding, lunch, dinner, bar. But as far as the other amenities we don't offer day passes at this time for.

All the cabins we saw were rustic but renovated and clean. I slept on a bottom bunk and the beds are very comfortable! The food was amazing and you are waterside in the woods (with horses) so be sure to bring a can of OFF and you will be fine!

Good Morning Eleanor, There is a minimum requirement of two people to stay in our cabins. However, there is no requirement to stay in our motel style rooms. There is also the option of upgrading your room during check-in to a cabin if it is available at the time. Thank you and have a good day!

We guarantee each riding guest 1 ride per day within their riding package, however you can go to the barn at the other scheduled riding times and take additional rides at no additional cost based on availability. All of our riding times have what we call "Fast, Medium, or Slow" rides, so in answer to your question regarding trotting it is yes that would be available on the "Medium or Fast" rides. Our Ranch offers television viewing via satellite tv which we offer in three area's in our main building. Our individual guest rooms do not have tv's, however you are more than welcome to bring mini dvr players. We offer coffee, tea and water cooler in our dining area. Each room accommodation does have a mini fridge available for your use. Our pools are heated for our guests comfort. Hoping this has covered all your questions feel free to reach out to us again.
