Just got back from a mid week getaway to shelter island. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we were well taken care of. The staff went out of their way to make sure all our plans were set and made several great recommendations. Highly recommend the clean and Covid safe and comfy setting. Can’t wait for the spring to go back!
Friendly staff - and lovely bathroom (up to date and large) - but the room itself was tired. The bed was also 3.5ft off the ground and very difficult for my mother to climb into. When we asked for a step stool - we were given the folding one that the on-site handy man uses (paint stains and all) which wasn't the easiest to use. Additionally - the takeaway breakfast was completely inedible, not even cooked all the way through. For the price - I was expecting a higher quality accommodation.
Emma welcomed you! She was so nice and helpful! They are lucky to have someone like her as a first impression! Getaway for one night. Beautiful pool, bar, gazebo area. Beautiful flowers every where.5 minute walk to the beach. Very quaint and tranquil. Serviced coffee, juice, yogurt and fresh baked goods for breakfast.
We visited this hotel in July 2020, so just as phase 3 reopening started during the COVID 19 pandemic. We stayed during the week so the rates were slightly lower than during the weekend but it ended up being over $900 for two nights in a room with 2 queen beds. We thought this was expensive given that the amenities of the hotel were almost inexistant due to COVID-19 safety measures. Pros and cons below. Pros - Shelter Island is beautiful and it is a very relaxing getaway from the city. The hotel is right by the beach (7 minutes walk), it has a pretty yard and a cute pool. The hotel is in a typical house for the area and it is very pretty from the outside. The room was clean and the front desk people were kind. Cons - The hotel restaurant is closed (it is not even open for outdoor dining) so this means that no meals are available at the hotel. The welcome email advertised that the bar would be open from afternoon to evening but that was completely unclear to us (ie, the bar seemed closed). The hotel shut down its bike rental service and there is no taxi on the island at this time so unless you come with a car, movement is very limited. The hotel offers a complimentary « grab and go » breakfast which consists of a box of mini pastries that are not that great and coffee in paper cups. Finally, the hotel room was clean but not up to date - paint was chipped on certain walls, the refrigerator made noise, the shower curtain hangers were falling off and a smoke detector was missing on the ceiling. Conclusion - We understand there is a pandemic and were expecting fewer amenities but we were expecting great service to make up for it and a spotless room, especially given the price tag of $400+/night. From our perspective, breakfast should be properly served outdoors and a bartender should be available to show that the bar is open. Ideally, the bike rental should also be made available. All in all, so glad we got away from the city in such a restful place but the hotel needs to do a bit more to justify the high price. …
A place where you can really get away from it all. Small inn on a gorgeous little island. Close to the beach and lots of restaurants to choose from in the area. The rooms are quaint and comfortable. Bathrooms nice and spacious and the pool area is a great gathering place. Fresh pastries and coffee in the morning and will go back again soon! Thanks
