The room I booked was over $400 in October-I thought it would be worth it because of the advertised fire place. The fire place can’t be used-it does not have a gas insert and it can’t burn wood either? We were offered $ 50 off, but it’s not the point. False advertisement. Also our room #14 is right next to the kitchen-we could literally hear conversations through the wall-it was crazy. I’m not sure why they didn’t think of sound when building this “suite” which is really a room. On a very positive note, the place is very clean and kept up, the continental breakfast was nice, the bed and linens great, the shower in the room was awesome but you could still here people talking in that space, Just not what I expected. Maybe the other rooms are more sound-proof. I would have asked for another room if we were staying more than one night. Ask before you book. I read trip advisor reviews to figure out where to stay-so that is why I’m reviewing this place. It is quite pricey and should be worth it.…
I’m almost ashamed to say that although I have lived most of my life on Long Island I had never visited Shelter Island before. To celebrate my birthday we went to Shelter Island for three days and two nights. Having read reviews for the Shelter Island House - it sounded like it was exactly what we were looking for, and we were not disappointed. It is very well kept and our king sized room was nicely appointed and very clean and up to date. The bed was extremely comfortable. Suzanne the owner was welcoming and so nice to speak with. It’s in a good location as the Island is only 4 miles by 2 miles. They have a very nice continental breakfast with juice, coffee, yogurt and pastries. Great way to start the day. We will be back to the Shelter Island House, it was such a nice visit.…
This small hotel felt uncrowded even though it was sold out. They have a kind staff, clean hotel rooms and common areas, plenty of fresh towels for the pool and beach chairs and umbrellas to bring to the beach. Thanks for a perfect stay at Shelter Island.
Ian and Suzanne bent over backward to make our wedding was a dream come true. We rented all rooms and the West Neck guesthouse. It felt intimate and the guests loved the decor, experience, convenience and “home away from home” feeling. I could not recommend this hotel more!
First time staying at Shelter Island House & my husband and I will return. Our room was large, immaculate w/ a spacious walk-in shower. My favorite in the morning at the breakfast bar was the delicious fresh fruit and excellent coffee. Staff are friendly, but best of all was the hospitality provided by the owner, Suzanne.
Stayed here with my husband and daughter for a weekend getaway. I have never been to shelter island and was really looking forward to getting away .I was a bit disappointed with our queen room. It definitely didn’t look like the hotel room pictures online and needs a little updating I didn’t see an outdoor bar and the pool outside isn’t heated. I would also warn people with kids to be be careful of the water in the bathroom it gets super heated even if turn on just the cold I almost burned my hand a few times. The indoor osprey bar now has a limited menu. What I did love about the place was that it was quaint, had a decent breakfast given the times and is close to crescent beach .You can walk there from the hotel and they did offer a town beach pass for the whole week which was $70. The employees were pleasant. They do have beach chairs and umbrellas as well as bikes available for you to use which was a nice touch. I would come back and stay here just wish it wasn’t as expensive for the room. But it’s hard to find places to stay out here for a reasonable price during the summer season…
This was the first time in years that we visited Shelter Island, From the moment we arrived there it was an excellent experience, We are well traveled and typically spend most weekends on East Hampton. The owners are kind, hospitable and so welcoming, Excellent service, Our room was well sized, comfortable and super clean, The atmosphere of clientele were friendly and warm. We had a TON of laughs, good drinks and excellent food at their restaurant. This will be our new spot. Can’t wait to return,
This place is just a delight! Our kind room was absolutely darling, immaculate, and so comfortable. The staff was so friendly we felt literally "at home", and everything was just wonderful, from start to finish.
We stayed in early May 2021. The hotel was very comfortable--everywhere newly decorated and well looked after. Our room was lovely. The staff were friendly and very careful about Covid precautions. For Shelter Island, and the quality of the hotel, we thought the prices were good value. New York State will be opening up later this month, and we assume the hotel's bar and restaurant will be opening up too. We enjoyed our stay so much that we have already booked up to return in July. We are hoping to try the restaurant then.
Just got back from a mid week getaway to shelter island. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we were well taken care of. The staff went out of their way to make sure all our plans were set and made several great recommendations. Highly recommend the clean and Covid safe and comfy setting. Can’t wait for the spring to go back!
