We just stayed at the Chequit for a few days for our mini-moon. We were looking to truly relax and unplug and the Chequit was the perfect spot to do that! The staff at the Chequit are really helpful and friendly. They left a handwritten note and prosecco in the room when we arrived to congratulate us. They were very... More

We stopped here on our way north from the south shore of Long Island for one night. The hotel is not without charm, with some very nice minimalist type decorating. We were given a room in the annex across the street, which has two stairways, one of which is very steep, and no elevators. the room was small, but cute,... More

We loved the charm of the place. The staff were kind and helpful. We looked forward to getting up in the morning and having their delicious breakfast on the verandah. The rooms have been simply renovated and are attractive. Throughout The Chequit old world charm is coupled with modern amenities. Great style'! Taking the ferry is easy and fun. Sag... More

What else is there to say. Fish tacos were eh. Lobster roll was $30 and advertised as a whole 1.25lbs lobster but I doubt it. Service was friendly though. The iced tea was the highlight so you get what I mean. It is centrally located and the decor is nice, especially sitting outside.

This hotel has nailed it - chic refined elegance combined with a lovely old building, great location, gorgeous breakfast, and a fabulous staff that met every question and need with a smile. Came for a girls weekend, and want to come right back with my love. It's awesome when hotels get it right, and this had. Great combination of hotel... More

my wife read a glowing review of the Chequit (pronounced Chee-kit) in Coastal Living magazine and called the hotel for a room during our one-night stay on Shelter Island. According to Coastal Living, rooms started at $195. The first quote offered was over $300, but when my wife asked about the lower-priced rooms, one was offered at the $195 level.... More

I don't know where to begin! What a wonderful dinner at the Red Maple which is on premise! The staff and quality of food is exceptional and not just my opinion but our dinner was an wedding dinner with a total of 10 people. All of us agreed that the crap cake was the best they ever had! Looking for the Long Island experience without the East Hampton silliness? Then try Shelter Island and why not The Chequit. Paper thin walls (typical summer place this) and somewhat tame super healthy breakfast buffé but also super cosy and nice place with nice and friendly albeit not too professional staff. In house restaurant Red Maple is as good as any... More

After having such a delightful winter's stay in January I couldn't wait to get back to Shelter Island in summertime. My stay at the Chequit could not have been more pleasant. Always so welcoming, so laid back, so charming. Accommodations were perfect. Not quite the height of summer travelers yet, so sitting out on the front porch could not have... More

We just returned from our second stay at the newly redone Chequit which has become our go-to destination for a peaceful getaway from the city. The Chequit is an historical hotel that has been smartly and chicly updated but still maintains its old fashioned appeal.
