We were looking for a place near Woodstock on a summer road trip and this seemed to be the obvious choice as other available places were oddly expensive.
The room was perfectly comfortable and I slept very well. The TV was visible fine from either bed and the A/C worked fine. We were able to get a ground floor room which was good since there was no elevator. We were able to park right near the entrance. We didn’t notice noise from other rooms which was great.
The room was a little tired - lots of peeling paint in the bathroom vanity area. The toilet seat was loose although I was able to tighten that somewhat with my hands. The room had a bit of a musty smell but not terrible. More pronounced was a skunk smell walking into the middle entrance (maybe cleaning products, maybe weed?).
There wasn’t breakfast but looked like there was coffee. I didn’t notice a workout room although I think there was a pool. Hotel restaurant attached seemed to be vacant.
Overall, it did the job fine, though nothing fancy. I would stay again if ever in the area.

It seems that the Howard Johnson by Wyndham is an older hotel, but there was evidence that some renovating had been done. My husband and I were pleased with our room. It was clean and comfortable, and the hotel was right by the main highway. There was a restaurant connected to the hotel so it was easy to get a meal without traveling. The people at the desk were friendly and helpful; and the price for a room couldn't be beat. I'd stay there again.

The hotel has a standard, mid-range roadside hotel feel to it. The rooms were clean and bright, with amenities (fridge, microwave). The furniture was in good condition, though they showed slight signs of age. The receptionists (morning and evening) were exceptionally kind and polite. The biggest problem was the bed and air-conditioner. The bed sagged, and the air-conditioner made so much noise that I had to turn it off, resulting in a hot, stuffy room.

We went with our ten-year-old's best friend and his mom to spend a weekend out of the city and go visit Kingston and a few other places. I booked the HoJo's due to location and price and we were very happy with the choice. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and have a very cute retro decor going. The beds were great; we all slept solidly and the second floor was very quiet. The lamps have USB chargers built in, which was very convenient.
The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful with suggestions of places to order delivery from, and setting us up with adjoining rooms which was great fun for the 2 kids. The on-site restaurant is currently closed, but Saugerties has plenty of places to eat and the pizza places in town all deliver. The pool was open, which was a wonderful surprise.
The common areas are a little worn but as I wasn't sleeping in the hallway, I didn't care. Coffee was always available at the front lobby.
Every bit as nice a stay as I've had at other places in the area, and for about half the price. Very well located, and just all around a great home base for exploring all the things to see and do in the area. Would definitely stay here again.

Booked several hotel rooms here for an event in Athens, NY. I'm LA based so had to go off photos and hotel reviews.
Was shocked at state of hotel lobby and general atmosphere when I arrived at property to do check in.
Rooms do not match photos, we found the rooms to be grimey, rundown, and moldy. The online photos promise updated amenities, these rooms were something out of a low budget 1980s horror film.
Some of my staff expressed that they did not feel safe staying at this accommodation, and unfortunately due to a short turn around in stay, and because we could not get in touch with hotel manager (staff would yell and then hang up) to help us, we were stuck with this booking.
Additionally, we had to have an early check out for a member of my crew that got sick and had to leave early and that money was not refunded to us. That booking was done directly through Howard Johnson. Staff members at front desk were unable to help with this, again, we were given the phone number (general line) to speak with hotel manager who never returned our calls regarding issues.
Through our Expedia booking we had some last minute changes (changing from a king to twin and vice versa) and through Expedia the hotel manager was contacted to help fix and the hotel manager never returned call or staff would hang up on Expedia case manager. Because Expedia was unable to reach the hotel manager, Expedia had to "close out" the claim. Both are guilty here, but more so the Howard Johnson hotel manager and their customer service team. Feels like the MO here is for front of house staff to hang up or mislead guests until they become frustrated and give up on trying to correct bad situations/look for refunds.
For those shopping around for their next hotel stay, beware.
This is not a safe location and hotel is misleading and taking advantage of guests from out of state with the posted photos on this and other websites.
Ultimately this hotel seems like long term accommodation for locals, or those in extended stay, down on their luck situations. Not a business trip friendly spot at all.
I am worry that the hotel is using AI to pad their reviews, because what we experienced (construction, dingy rooms to say the least) does not match up with the expectations via their online presence.
I will not be a customer of Howard Johnson or Wyndham Properties again.

We booked our stay for one night in Saugerties.
My wife and I were beyond excited for a night’s rest after traveling through upstate New York. We pulled into the hotel parking lot and were greeted by a smiling front desk clerk. She gave us our room key, said, “Enjoy your stay!”, and we headed to bed.
Boy were we excited to sleep!
We walked up the steps and into our room, dropping our bags at the entrance.
As soon as we opened the door, we were immediately hit with the unmistakable stench of mildew. Like an old lunchbox, or an aging garage refrigerator. My wife chuckled, looking back at me, questioning with her eyes, “Are you serious?”.
We inspected further. We were tired, and could deal with a bad smell if it meant a quick nights sleep. All the place had to be was clean!
It wasn’t even clean! The sheets were stained, the windowsills were rotting, the carpets were flattened and trampled by the feet of previous adventurers, leaving a nice little pathway from bathroom to bed, like a greasy Italian restaurant.
My wife laughed now, thinking the hotel was a joke. It must be, because who in their right mind would stay here?
“No chance” she said, smiling at me, before turning and heading back out the door.
I just wanted to sleep. But even I, a man who’s gone weeks without a shower and lived in a car, could not bring myself to nap in this frathouse.
We told the manager the room was not what we were expecting, asked for a refund, and closed our booking immediately.
The manager said we had to contact hotels.com for a refund.
We did. Now hotels.com says we have to contact the manager for a refund.
A nice remedy for this situation would be a refund of the cash we paid for a decent room.
Let us know how we might engage in that! And in the future, add “free smells” to the list of amenities!

I was in Saugerties NY on business not expecting to stay over night, the staff of Howard Johnson was very professional and they did accommodate me. The room was spotless, and the location of the hotel was just 1 mile for my job sight. really a win win for me.

The place is dated but our room was large, comfortable and exceptionally clean. What made our stay wonderful was the manager and friendly, accommodating staff. No problem getting extra pillows or towels and when our nightlight broke we were gifted a nightlight alarm clock. The old fountains that were mentioned in another review were purchased in Las Vegas when one of the casinos closed and are quirky fun in this setting. This place is not luxurious, but we look forward to staying there again when we travel through the area. In addition to the good accommodations and great staff it is convenient to Woodstock and Hudson Valley towns and tourist spots. The breakfasts at the attached cafe are excellent.

The room was very clean. It was nice to have a pool if you wanted to use it. A restaurant is on site if you do not want to go out to eat. I just did not like that the heater in the room is a little noisy. Would recommend this motel to anyone.

It is really close to the village of Saugerties. It is convenient but you should know that the rooms are dated, the mattress in the room 208 is not comfortable. The towels are hard, after a shower they feel like sand paper on your skin. The place is fairly clean, big parking lot, free coffee. You get what you pay for do not expect 5 stars service.
