Detailed Reviews
This is the most magical city escape in the area. Where to begin...
First, Amanda and her husband Joe are the most incredible hosts. It is clear that everything they do comes from their genuine passion for creating an incredibly special experience for their guests. Joe should also open a restaurant - if he did I would pay any amount to eat there - his cooking is incredible and made with fresh and local ingredients. I'm still dreaming of his brussels sprouts salad and green pancakes. Amanda designed the entire villa herself, and I couldn't stop taking pictures. Every fixture and feature in the villa has been perfectly thought out - from the fireplace in the room to the heated bathroom floors - I was taking mental notes to design my own dream home one day.
What made the stay truly special were Amanda and Joe themselves. They hosted us and two other couples staying for an intimate barn dinner on Saturday night after Valentines Day. It was so fun to get to know the other couples and Joe and Amanda over wine and delicious food in such a beautiful setting.
There is so much to do in the area - we hiked, explored the town of Saugerties, and ate at delicious nearby restaurants, but my favorite parts of the weekend were just relaxing in the villa, eating, reading, playing Scrabble, and relaxing.
Lastly, we had to take off before breakfast on our last day there, and Joe and Amanda made sure to meet us at our car with food for the drive. They couldn't be more thoughtful hosts.

Catherine, you and Taylor are so sweet! It was great to share wine and dinner with you in The Barn, and we look forward to doing it again! Valentine's Day is one of our favs -- all about the L-O-V-E.... We missed you at breakfast, but are glad we could toss a few of Joe's blueberry cream scones your way for the ride! :) We hope to see you again soon, and Happy Spring!

Having travelled a lot around the world in many types of accomodation and climates, it is rare to find a place so well thought out and designed as The Villa at Saugerties. The owners really deliver a personal touch from greeting you when you arrive with coffee and cookies, to heated floors, fireplaces throughout, lovely finishings from taps to chocolates in the rooms.
The owners Joe and Amanda look after you like old friends, and cook you a world class and filling breakfast.
It is set on a green property with pool and lake surrounded by glass all framed by white picket fences.
The worst thing is you have to leave, and even they they provide you with some snacks and refreshments.
Truly a great couple and place.

I spent a lovely fall weekend at The Villa at Saugerties. My expectations were exceeded by the beautiful space and the overly gracious hosts. Amanda and Joe have exquisite taste in decor and provide a welcoming environment for guests. They prepared delicious meals and accommodated all dietary requests for the vegan and gluten free guests. Also, I highly recommend the villa for couples who want a quiet and child free space.

As soon as we drove into the beautiful grounds of The Villa at Saugerties, we knew that we were in for a rare treat and indeed The Villa exceeded all our expectations. My husband and I were so fortunate to stay at this very meticulously renovated retreat where every detail has been attended to, inside and outside, in a most luxurious fashion. The gardens, the design, the décor, the furnishings and the ambiance were a beautiful and relaxing feast for the senses. We loved our spacious room #4 with its high ceilings, most comfortable bed and linens, lovey patio, fireplace and beautiful bathroom. Soothed and feeling pampered, we enjoyed the complimentary evening tapas and very delicious breakfast that Joe expertly prepared using fresh herbs and greens from their garden. Our wonderful hosts, Joe and Amanda, made us feel welcomed and cared for from the moment we arrived. We look forward to another visit and highly recommend The Villa at Saugerties.

My husband and I decided last minute to take a trip to the Hudson Valley sans children. Our friends told us to stay in Hudson for the weekend but every place we checked out was sold out -- and boy are we glad they were because after a little more research, we found The Villa at Saugerties. Amanda and Joe are amazing!!!!! The villa and rooms are just beautiful and the breakfast and dinner at the barn are truly gourmet. They pay great attention to detail. It will be the place we go whenever we need a little getaway. We really can't wait to go back.

My wife and I wanted a couple of days in the country for a typical weekend getaway. What we got was totally atypical, in the best possible sense.
Saugerties is hilly, green and rural but the homes are modest at best. Somehow, between the aluminum siding houses and the odd trailer, is an immaculate white fence ringing a large tract of land with a, what is that? A small lake? A huge fish-filled pond? And there are two houses. One is an incongruously, impossibly authentic looking Tuscan villa and the other is called a barn, but only in a universe where horses are housed in luxury penthouses. They're amazing.
The place is the realization of six years of blood, sweat, tears on the part Joe and Amanda, married Manhattan transplants. They meticulously, what's the word? Produced? Created? Regenerated? Engineered (that's the word!) something exceptionally refined for the rustic Hudson Valley.
It's so obsessively produced, I found myself running my hands along things trying to find seams and defects. There aren't any. The walls kind of shimmer. I asked and it turns out they're made of something called Venetian plaster. My guess is that's not available at Home Depot. The bathroom fittings are flat black iron, same as the window panes and shower splash guards. Turns out they were handmade by a local artisan.
The rooms have large, high beds and covers made of something very soft. There were nonpareils waiting for us. French doors led to our own terrace with comfy outdoor sofas, or whatever you call those things.
We slept great and popped down for breakfast to find Joe had flakey blueberry scones waiting for us. They were topped with maple syrup sweetened whipped coconut cream. I'm a bit of a foodie and asked Joe how he made them. He said they were the product of a long period of experimentation mixing various flours before settling on the balance that was just right. That same obsession translated to the rest of the breakfast. There was avocado toast, locally smoked salmon, silver dollar pancakes, locally won maple syrup, sliced strawberries and bananas and home made turkey sausage. It kind of an edible orgy.
The living room has a high ceiling and houses a fireplace the size of my old apartment built into the wall. There's even a wooden, I'm guessing, Scandinavian chess and backgammon set. Nothing is mundane.
Outside are meticulously manicured grounds with flowers I'm told are coordinated to be in bloom with the change of seasons. The garden is built into the embankment that leads up to the in-ground pool.
Joe and Amanda are people of taste and this means they know the like-minded restaurateurs. We went to the Red Onion, on their advice, and it was fabulous.
In short, if you're looking for a holy combination of comfort, relaxation, beauty and culinary delights, I unreservedly recommend The Villa at Saugerties. It is the culmination of a rare vision and you will love it.

Amanda and Joe are the perfect hosts in this serene sanctuary. It's a quaint B&B which has been recently (and tastefully) renovated. Joe is an amazing cook and welcomed us with some Socca(French savory pancakes) and had some chilled Rosé to wash down the goodies. The villa is perfectly located- two hours from NYC and few minutes from the village of Saugerties and Woodstock. The breakfast next morning was one of the best I've ever had! It's not your usual eggs and sausage...Joe and Amanda take the breakfast up a notch. We had avocado toast with smoked salt, lemon cilantro pancakes, blueberry scones, mint arugula salad, smoked salmon and cava with pomegranate juice. They even have a pool that will be open in the summer. Just pack an overnight bag and drive up here and you won't be disappointed. It's a wonderful oasis not to be missed.

Went to The Villa to get away from the city after the hubbub of the holidays for a few days, and left feeling completely rejuvenated. As the owners, Joe and Amanda gave us the lay of the land, we were speechless. The décor is so refined, with a mix of modern and antique furnishings that literally made us feel like we were somewhere else. Joe had prepared a welcome snack of small baguette toasts with manchego cheese, quince paste and Spanish almonds, which was the perfect bite to refresh us before going out to dinner (Miss Lucy’s in the village). The ambiance and fragrance of the wood burning fire in the living room was amazing. The bedroom (ours was a king – bedroom 4) was beautiful -- with a woven leather headboard, gas fireplace, cozy lounge chair, and French doors to a huge private patio. Bathroom had an awesome soaking tub (which I melted in), gorgeous teal blue Moroccan tiles, and a marble sink. The details are so thoughtfully done – serious attention to everything. Breakfast was the same. 24hr Nespresso machine, fresh blueberry scones, yogurt, and fruit for the early risers. When breakfast was served, we received carrot socca fritters with lemon ricotta, arugula, and bacon (or avocado slices for non bacon eaters). The next day we had a kale and onion frittata, patatas bravas, and toast with jam. Tiny ginger snap nutella cookie sandwiches in our bedroom. ALL AMAZING! Dinner at The Red Onion (highly recommend). We ended up hanging out at The Villa for most of our stay, but also took a walk in the village where all of the shops and cafes are super quaint. Considered playing scrabble on the game table by the fire, but decided to watch movies in bed by our own fire (they have Apple TV’s in addition to cable which is so great). Free mini fridge beverages was also a really nice touch. It was a perfect get away! We will definitely be back in the summer to relax and sit by the pool (the gardens look like they will be gorgeous when in bloom). Can’t say enough. TOTALLY worth it!

I don't write reviews often and yet given the truly magnificent experience my wife and I just had at The Villa, I felt compelled to. We had no plans for New Year's Eve and so my wife was looking around for something to do that was easy to get to (we live in Manhattan), but also an enjoyable experience that would also be relaxing. Man did she find it.
The key to understanding the experience we had at The Villa is to know more about it's hosts - Amanda & Joe. I do real estate for a living so I interact with tons of people and know quality people when I meet them…And Amanda & Joe are so wonderful. They aren't just good human beings, but they were nice enough to share their story with us and we learned that creating the atmosphere you will experience at The Villa is a personal dream for them after experiencing it themselves on their honeymoon in Spain. They have been working on creating The Villa for years, and the results of their care and effort are noticeable from literally the moment you see it as you pull up. They spared no expense in the look, quality, feel, and design of the property, which feels like you're staying at a B&B in Spain or Italy.
And as good as the feel of The Villa is, Amanda & Joe then fill the property with their love and care for wanting their guests to have the same wonderful experience they had on their honeymoon. The Villa is already stunning, relaxing, and superb on its own, but they continually want to know how they can make your stay as top notch as possible. And Joe is such a fantastic cook! The breakfasts he prepared were both more scrumptious and interesting than I've had at any B&B or hotel I can remember.
In addition, The Villa is wonderfully located where you are off the beaten path in nature, but also just a short drive to Saugerties, Woodstock, Hudson, and Hunter Mountain if you wanted to ski. From hiking, eating, shopping, and more, there is so much to see and do in the area, and yet I even got some great photography without even leaving the property.
I'm the kind of traveler that always wants to see/experience new places, but my wife and I are already talking about more trips to The Villa in the future - That is the kind of special venue it is and also memorable experience we had there. I cannot recommend it enough nor speak higher of Amanda & Joe. They are the just wonderful people who have created a magical oasis that I encourage you to visit any time of year.

Exquisite; there is no doubt in my mind! Recent stay was the best! Extraordinary delicious continental breakfast by Joe and Amanda! Yummy delicious; indeed! They attended to me and husband with such detail and was extended throughout our stay. The Villa bed was super comfy and bathroom ideal; the room itself was perfect; complimentary minibar with featured special drinks and homemade cookies; so special! We will return for another stay!! The outside gardens are spectacular too; which are soo inviting from the time you set foot on the property; tranquil and beautiful!!

Hello - We offer a super beautiful full healthy brunch included with your stay, every day. On some Saturday evenings we offer our guests a special prix fixe dinner in the gardens (weather depending). We do not have a restaurant for additional meals. Fortunately there are lots of fabulous restaurants nearby in Saugerties (10 min), Woodstock (15 min), Kingston (20 min), and Hudson (30 min), and we are happy to help you plan an itinerary or offer suggestions based on your dietary preferences ;) Feel free to shoot me an email if you'd like to learn more! Very best - Amanda
Hi there! I'll be happy to send you pics, rates, and details. You can email me through our website (Tripadvisor doesn't allow us to include our email address here for some reason), and I'll send you everything you need ;)
Of course! Tripadvisor does not allow links in this section, but our email address is posted near our name at the top of the page next to our address and phone number. If you just click on the little envelope, you can email us directly ;)
Although we love dogs, I’m afraid we are not able to accommodate them at The Villa. There are some boarding options nearby, or if you would like recommendations for places to stay that can accommodate dogs, shoot me an email and I’ll be happy to help!
