I recommend you guys go to the hotel. The room is great and the service is the best. Staff is kind. I would like to go back. Thank you for the best 2 days of my life. I got to keep my key card as a souvenir
This hotel has potential but needs serious help. The building is run down, the rooms are dated, and the staff is very inexperienced. Check in was a nightmare, breakfast is mediocre. Really not worth the high room rates at all- look elsewhere!
the location of this property is excellent, nestled among the pines, close to the performing arts center and not far from town. The building and staff need work. The inside decor is old, the guest rooms are large but a lot of the room doesn't work e.g. air conditioner; hard mattress, old bathrooms. The staff, although friendly, lacks professionalism; front desk is unorganized; dining room has so much potential, but is needs a total upgrade. The need a consultant to come in and totally upgrade the property.
An aweful experience! Bathroom needs many repairs( tissue holder falling off wall and painted over for example….bedroom is under furnished…only one bedside table…no one emptied garbage, made bed, or new towels as promised. Female manager…rude!! When we told her the room had not been serviced. Other people on staff were nice. Won’t be back and certainly will not recommend….will discourage friends….
Lovely spacious old hotel. Friendly service. Hotel shuttle service to train station, race track, town, baths and museum a great advantage. Easy to use, Great place for golfers - close to lovely pool. town offered multiple levels of dining and delicious food choices. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL and overall EXPERIENCE Easy access by AMTRAK from NYC
I whole-heartedly agree with other travelers who have been extremely disappointed in this hotel. We too were in Saratoga for the SPAC performance and chose this hotel due to walking distance from SPAC. Plus, the park is very pretty. We have stayed at some beautifully restored older hotels; unfortunately, this is not one of them. Negatives: needs serious painting and cleaning. Ugly trash cans next to elevator belong outside in a park, not in a hotel lobby; front desk staff unwelcoming; no shops in hotel, except small snack shop with little merchandise/food. Room was big but very basic with chipped furniture, no sense of style or decor, old bathroom which needs updating. Even sign to hang on door for housekeeping were cheap paper and looked like they were designed for construction site. Pros: shuttle service to races and downtown was great and guys driving shuttles are very nice, warm people. Main restaurant was pretty decent and you can sit outside on patio; expect slow service however as small staff. Restaurant at pool was ok but looked dirty. For ex., shelves where condiments were stored (right next to our table) needs to be cleaned and repainted. Bottom line: DE North, the outside vendor operating the park, also operates the hotel and obviously, is not putting any money into the hotel. This place could be saved but needs a serious infusion of capital to make it shine again. A private investor needs to take this project on...would not recommend to others nor will we stay here again.…
At $500+/night, you have certain expectations and this hotel disappoints in almost every count. Yes, the location is pretty, tranquil and convenient with shuttles downtown. And from the outside, it is grand and elegant. That’s the end of the positives. This hotel needs a complete gut job. The rooms are dated and not well maintained (dollops of paint on the walls, no window treatments other than a almost sheer pull down shade, dirty hallways etc). The bathrooms are old and the showers look prefab with very low shower head that was coming away from the wall. And the staff at check in and check out seemed overwhelmed and not “high-end service” Where is the “timeless luxury”? The grounds and public rooms are ok if you like old musty country estate vibes, but for the room, I have stayed at nicer Courtyard by Marriotts. At least they keep up with the times and guest expectations.…
We chose this hotel our of necessity. We had symphony tickets in Saratoga. Because it is summer and horse racing season, there were zero rooms available the weekend of our travel. We decided to go ahead and spend more than $500 for one night because we could walk to the concert (and again, no other rooms were available). We waited 10 minutes at check-in; the desk clerk could not be bothered to even say hello to us. She walked in front of us not once, but 4 times. She made several phone calls to other guests, letting them know that their rooms were ready. We were finally helped when another employee came in from another room. This is an old hotel, which we appreciate, but it is sorely in need of updating. The peeling paint in our room and bathroom was just one sad indication. Our room was large, but the restroom was so small that you had to shut the door to have enough room. Historical, I get it, but if the rooms were clean and updated, I would not have an issue. A gigantic hair clog greeted us in the restroom, along with the peeling paint, filth behind the radiator, a glob of some substance clearly visible on the bathroom door trip, a wire hanger left behind. I went to the front desk a couple of hours after arrival to make sure that they were including my AAA discount; no one asked to see my AAA card at check in. The desk clerk said I would have to physically check out in the morning and present it then. I haven't physically checked out of a hotel in years, but I complied, and at check-out, a man who said he didn't really work there and was "just the accountant" tried to help us check out. It took forever. I expect much, much more than this from a "luxury" hotel. We travel extensively and have stayed in many luxury hotels. That title must be earned. Not surprisingly, I have not received an email from The Gideon asking me to complete a survey, so I felt the need to warn other travelers, here. We love Saratoga and already have another trip planned. Needless to say, we will never stay here again.…
How the mighty have fallen. This was supposedly renovated recently but everything looks worn. Room bathrooms are tiny and from 1988. Identities is brutal. But worst is the customer service is non existent. The only good thing is the shuttle to go to town and the track.
Saratoga park is beautiful - unfortunately the Gideon Putnam (which has great potential ) is not. The hotel is old which should add to the charm but unfortunately it does not . Stayed in a deluxe room (far from deluxe ) The bathroom is very small I requested extra towels the first day - was told they would be brought up right away - never came On Monday requested a wake- up call at 6:15 am - we were playing golf at 6:50 no call!! - luckily I woke up and we just made the starting time (Course in the park) On Monday night we went to eat at the hotel at 5:30 ( Had tickets to see Norah Jones- 7;30 pm) I was told by the Food and Beverage Supervisor that he could not seat us. I told him we were staying at the hotel but it didn't matter. I stated we would have to leave the park to eat but he didn't care or could not help. We then left the grounds and luckily found a place to park in the town and found a restaurant to eat quickly. When we returned I called the general manager and left a voice message with my cell number - never contacted us. I guess he was too busy to call me back. On return from the concert we advised the front desk that we wanted a wake up call at 5:30 am we were checking out early - she promised yes - no call !!! When you are paying over 500 hundred dollars a night you should expect better There were other small issues but to long to write,…
