There is a fine line between quaint and dumpy. This place walks that line. If it weren’t for being located right on the lake this would be an $89 a night Motel 6. They tried to make it look nice. It appears clean. The bed was quite nice, some decorations, pictures and old skis hanging on the wall give it that lodge feel. But the dark carpeting, 1970’s paneling, torn up fake leather couches, horrible shower, and dim lighting give it the dumpy hotel feel. Home Depot sells hundred watt LED bulbs that would do wonders for this place. There is a small refrigerator, freezer, and microwave oven which is nice touch, they’re stacked up in the corner underneath a flat screen TV. There is a thermostat on the wall that reminds me of one of my grandparents house that controls the heat. There’s also a wall-mounted air conditioning unit under the front window 18” away from the bed. We had a premier Lakeside king suite. There was only one night stand, and no outlets on either side of the bed. There was an outlet with USB jacks located on the floor next to the air conditioner. If you look up on the ceiling above the lights you can see all the dead flies that are stuck to it. If you have a second floor room with a balcony don’t let your kids out there because the railings are broken and missing several spindles somebody could very easily fall out. See attached picture. Bathroom: We had to wait forever to get hot water, and I mean forever. As soon as I woke up in the morning I turned it on, then got dressed went out to the jeep did some other things and came back in and by that time the water was hot. There also isn’t much of a showerhead, it’s just a nozzle that water flares out of. The bathroom is microscopic and I realize this is an old motel in there aren’t too many options for that, the least they could do is put a nice showerhead. Also, there is nowhere in the shower to put your shampoo or soap. So you’re forced to reach outside and sit them on top of the toilet tank which creates another problem, water goes all over the side into the bathroom and puddles up on the floor. How hard would it be to go to the dollar store and buy some racks that hang over the showerhead? There is an exhaust fan in the ceiling that does absolutely nothing other than make noise, I know this because the humidity builds up in the bathroom and drips down on your head when you get out of the shower. Wi-Fi. They have a sign in the lobby with the Wi-Fi name and password but it is blank. When I inquired about the Wi-Fi, the front desk said she had to call and it would be a while. I’m not quite sure Who is she had to call or why it took so long, but it’s probably an hour or so until we got the Wi-Fi password. Seriously? In 2020 it takes that long to get a Wi-Fi password? They did provide a bag with a couple facemasks and a small bottle of hand sanitizer in the room which was a nice touch. They also had a list of all the restaurants in the area. The only issue with the restaurants is everything in town seems to be closed on a Sunday Monday or Tuesday. So we were forced to drive to Lake Placid for breakfast unless you want to get a sandwich at the deli or Dunkin’ Donuts. Nighttime dinners were also a challenge. This area is basically a ghost town between the two busy seasons. They do provide free boats, kayaks, and bikes to use. But in October when it’s snowing those benefits don’t justify the $200.00+ a night we paid.

We have traveled to Saranac in every season and ALWAYS find Gauthiers the most relaxing and comfortable place to stay. The rooms are always in top shape and most of the rooms are a few steps from the waters edge. We always take our kids, from tiny to teenager, and they love the kayaks, pool and lake access. Walking distance to nearly anything you would want in Saranac and the owner is always great and helpful. The coffee is the BEST!! We love to stay at a “locals” spot for the best of everything. If you are going to Saranac don’t miss this place!!

If you have any issue with this place, do not expect the owner to ever return a call . After three calls I finally managed to catch him answering . He is very difficult to deal with at all. I had to cancel a reservation 48 hours prior to arrival due to illness. I was charged the full amount of $311.54 which by the way includes a $10 a day fee for the use of his sporting equipment which it indicates on the sign as FREE. Do not expect any kind of cooperation from him if you ever have a problem.

Sorry you did not like the cancelation policy that you agreed to. This reservation was moved from June due to the pandemic that is going on. We moved the reservation for you once. You were told that the reservation could not be changed again when we moved the reservation from June to September You called less then 48 hours before check in and were told that you were going to be charged when you canceled . Two week later you were upset that you got charged

We were supposed to have a superior queen lakefront balcony. Yes, we got a lakefront balcony, however, there was nothing superior about the room. The rug was so dirty I'm not sure what color it was. The toilet was rocky and nothing like what the pictures are lies. It may have looked that way 10 yrs ago but not now. Don't bother saying anything to the owner because they don't exist either. Worst place I ever stayed. For $500. this place is a dump. The room was not COVID proof, maid dropped sheets on the ground and picked them up and set them back on the pile and went into the room with only sheets and a spray bottle.

This Inn is very conveniently located within walking distance to many restaurants and the Village of Saranac Lake. We ate at the Casa de Sol and the Blue Line Brewery and enjoyed both. The rooms are clean and adequately appointed but nothing fancy. For Covid security the staff doesn’t enter the rooms once you’ve entered so you have to make your bed and dispose of your own trash which worked fine for us. Towels placed outside the door are replaced very quickly. The staff couldn’t be friendlier. The highlights are the beautiful lake site lounge area with Adirondack chairs, the amazing vista and the water sport equipment provided free of charge. We went on a long canoe ride, navigating through a chain of lakes to a lock one day, and used the kayaks for a couple of hours another. There are many mountains to explore within a few miles with varying degrees of difficulty. We found Mt. Ampersand challenging but we were able to summit in 3 hours. There you’ll find an absolutely amazing 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains and lakes. With the leaves starting to turn, I’d highly recommend this motel for the foliage season.
