I’m writing this review in response to the owner's response to the review posted on 7/4. I was the other person at that party. Firstly, the Expedia posting DID say balcony or patio. What they put us in was a converted garage. Stains on the chairs, dirty bathroom, no rugs or carpet, bland and run down. Secondly, we spoke to the staff in so much respect. They immediately changed their persona when we expressed that we weren’t satisfied. The front desk women immediately got snippy and irritable. Thirdly, we did go to dinner. During that time, we could speak to the person who booked us the room about the situation. We were not drunk. We didn’t even drink. That’s when we came back to speak further. Again we said respectfully until the FD women got snippy again and made us feel stupid. We finally were able to talk to the owner, and he was very nasty. He didn’t listen, made us feel stupid, and was disrespectful. We left the hotel. My partner and I are very easy to please. We would have been happy with just a little bit of empathy and a genuine apology, and a small discount for the disappointment.EXPEDIA did refund our money. They have had enough complaints against this guy to know we aren’t the crazy ones. It’s very rude to call my partner a Karen. He isn’t. If you take anything away from what I say, I’d like you to accept this. I’ve worked in 5-star luxury hotels for years. When helping guests when problems arise, I use this model. Daniel, the owner, is a toxic person. Like many of the other reviews, we were totally scammed. We paid for a "deluxe Lakeview room" and got a converted garage with a side lake view. When we kindly asked for the room that we paid for, we were told that we needed to pay an additional $130. When we asked for our money back, we were told that "he's the owner, and he gets to speak as disrespectfully as he wants." The owner is nasty and seemingly homophobic.
What a charming, lovely retreat. The hotel is right on the water and they offer kayaks and canoes. The accommodations are very comfortable, linens quite nice, staff are lovely. But, the porch overlooking the lake is absolutely wonderful. The hotel itself is older and really more of a motel. But, you couldn't ask for better ambiance or more charm.
Went up for a fishing trip. Clean rooms and nice scenic spot in town right on the lake. Staff was very accommodating as we had a small problem with our boat battery and they helped us out. Very kind and professional staff. Will definitely stay again
I very much enjoyed my stay at Gauthier's. It has that retro feel, from a bygone era where independent owner-operators were the norm. Well maintained property. Impressive amenities... bicycles, boats, fishing poles and more. Friendly knowledgeable staff. The location has all the conveniences of being in town, e.g. walk to brewery and restaurants, yet right on the water. While I found the room impressively clean and very comfortable, it may be important to set expectations: This is an older property (1960s perhaps?) with some of the associated quirks, such as: no exhaust fan in the bathroom and no power outlet by the bed. Details likely vary room-to-room.
Old school motel, so don’t expect an up to date business hotel set-up. However, clean, comfortable, nice touches (good coffee, real cups, and glasses including wine glasses, nice bed linens and towels). The balcony overlooking the water was just perfect on a beautiful early autumn evening. Great location in town. All the old school family resort hotel stuff - bikes, boats, games, pool and just the right amount of regional kitsch. Effi pop cient, helpful staff. Really liked that they’ve installed tile floors as nothing is grosser in the average older hotel than overworked carpeting.
Perfect location close to town and on the lake with so many amenities! Dan and the team made reserving the perfect room and navigating the local area so easy. We appreciated the variety of hot cocoa, tea, and coffees to start and end each day. Being right on the lake was magical watching the sunrise/sunset and having open use of the canoes/kayaks/sups and bikes! The guests were also as nice as the owners/operators. All were one big happy family over the holiday weekend. We will return!
We booked for a week but unfortunately I got seriously ill in which I was hospitalized. We tried to cancel but the Owner Operator was rude and pretentious. I was willing to pay a fee but they charged me fully. He stated “ he is trying to survive “ and I understand that. But I am a Frontline Healthcare person who dealt with Covid19 more than anyone else. This would have been my first trip away and now I’m at a loss of $1200. I will not support this hotel ever in the future
We have been on a 19 day road trip from Houston and this place, by far, was the BEST!! The owner was always working hard and was visible to ensure an incredible visit . They have canoes and kayaks that were at no charge. They even had free beer 😊 The bed was the most comfortable nights rest we have experienced through our adventure thank u Gauthier’s we will be back just to stay there again. If we could add an extra star we would.
On the plus side, the view from our room on the lakeside was spectacular and could not be beat. It was quiet and the hotel offers bikes, paddle boats, canoes and it has a season pool. Weirdly, our room did not have a dresser and finding an outlet to plug in chargers was a bit of a challenge. The room was small and could stand a sprucing up. It's an older property and if you don't mind that, it's fine. Oh, it is also right across the street from a breakfast and lunch place.
