The Ashley is changing the roadside motel hospitality model. Unstaffed and automated property allows us the give you great accommodations at reasonable and affordable rates. Our Adirondack motel is open year round, located on River Street opposite the park and public boat launch with spectacular views of Lake Flower. We are within walking distance of the downtown shopping district, numerous restaurants, churches and a host of entertaining activities. Featuring a communal kitchen for all guest use, we want to make you feel like you are part of our little lakeside retreat community. Lake Placid and its many activities are only an eight-minute drive away. All rooms at The Ashley are non smoking since 2003, however we do allow smoking on the property and now most of the rooms are doggo friendly as well!

Detailed Reviews
We've been enjoying our summer visits here for over a decade! The owners are friendly, very accommodating and they go out of their way to make sure their guests are happy. Rooms are always clean and comfortable. Great location in the heart of Saranac Lake: easy walk to Main Street, swimming at Colby or Clear lakes, easy boat access to Flower lake and just a 10 minute drive to Lake Placid and half hour to Wild Center. Very reasonable rates. You'll be happy you stayed.

While having work done on my house I stayed at The Ashley. The new owners and manager are slowly updating the property and the upgrades of tv, wifi and furniture already make the place a cozy and quaint place to stay. While the rooms are dated they are making progress in updating bathrooms and have thought of the small touches that exude great customer service. Fluffy towels, plenty of toiletries and the office is always stocked with anything you may need. Unstaffed but assistance is only a phone call away.

In May 2005, my Wife and I along with our dog "Dink" spent the two days in beautiful, snow covered, Saranac Lake. We consider ourselves very lucky to find a motel, Amanda's, that would except pets. When we checked in at the motel office both of the motel owners warmly greeted us and gave Dink a special dog biscuit treat. We found our room to be comfortable, quiet, with parking directly in front of the room. A big plus to staying at Amanda's was the park directly across the street from the motel. This park gave us a the opportunity to see Lake Flower when it was frozen over and a good place to walk the dog.
Good Motel, Good Location.

We choose this motel based on the location to where we wanted to hike and paddle and the Google reviews. Now, looking back at the reviews I see they are all at least 2 years old. We arrived around 6:00 PM and could not tell where to check in as there is no office sign posted, after walking around the entire motel we finally landed back at the house in the front and an unmarked entrance. No one was there and there was a piece of paper with instructions if no one was there. We pressed the buzzer but no answer, so went to the next step which was to use the red phone- only problem is that it is a rotary phone so pressing 3 is not an option. I finally called the motel # on my cell- while the woman that answered was pleasant, she had my wrong cell # and said she had texted me the check in info ( of course I didn't get it because it was the wrong number), then she thought I had 2 rooms booked, but finally found ours and instructed us the door was open and the key was in the room. I inquired about where to park but it's pretty much wherever you can find a spot we discovered. The inside door to our room wouldn't push open past about 1/3 of the way so a bit tricky getting stuff into the room. It is a basic room and appeared to be clean. The mini refrigerator is on the bedside table right next to bed and outlets by the bed are a bit hard to come by for recharging phones. The TV operated from the light switch by the door which we finally figured out, but there is no cable TV available, only signing into your own accounts such as Hulu (at least that's all we could figure out as there were zero directions for anything in the room). I had to go back over to the office to retrieve the WiFi password. The shower was a bit tricky to get hot water but we figured that out based off the sign handing next to it, thee tub does not drain very well however and there was no hair dryer. Towels are old and could use an upgrade. There is also no ice that we could locate. When we left around 9:30 the next morning there was no one on site still and we ran into another couple that had a similar experience with parking, where to leave their key on check out (we didn't have one to worry about) and the lack of cable TV. All that being said, the location is great for walking to local places to eat and across the street to the park. Honestly, we have stayed at locally owned motels before but this one, while it has it's few advantages was lacking in service- no coffee as promised and we never saw any owners or staff, lack of basic information in the room about the accommodations would have been easy and helpful. For the price of $179 (including taxes) for a queen room on a Saturday late summer, we will not be returning.

The hotel is now under new management and these issues have been corrected, I am sorry for your past experience and do hope that you would consider giving what is now called The Ashley another chance as we are making upgrades and much needed changes to this property. I apologize that is has taken this long to finally be able to see this review and respond.

Staying at Village Motel is always a pleasure. It's a traditional "cabin" motel, reasonably priced, not far from the center of town, and well run by a caring couple. Our most recent stay marked ten years staying at Amanda's. Thanks, Edie and Joe!

We chose this hotel after reading the websites and reviews; especially for their policy allowing dogs. The owners have been absolutely wonderful and friendly, going to great lengths to make our stay confortable. The rooms are simple and rustic but clean and well-kept. Edie and Joe were wondeful to our dog and went to extra lengths to make us feel at home. I was actually there when the previous reviewer checked in and they clearly expected a Sofitel instead of a locally owned small lodge, and argued about the amount of taxes (obviously; not a decision made by the management!) I would highly recommend this for an small, friendly, locally-owned motel. They are not a 4 star hotel nor purport themselves to be one. The pricing was fair, the location fantastic and much friendlier than staying in Placid, and the area and owners truly gave us the small town feel of the Adirondacks. We spoke to other guests that were repeat customers and plan to return as well. If you are looking for a high-end fancy hotel you're better off in Placid; if you are looking for a simple, clean, cozy and friendly environment this is the place to be.

It's the second time I have stayed at Joe and Edie's little motel in Saranac Lake. Both times I have come through the area on motorcycle, once with a friend and this trip with my wife. If you are looking for clean, simple and well-priced accomodation - all operated by a very delightful and fun-loving husband and wife team (dog Tristan, too!), this is THE place to stay.
The morning coffee was great and I was even given a towel to wipe off my bike from the morning dew. And when I wanted to make a minor technical adjustment to the bike, Joe was handy with his tools and quickly insisted he do it for me - who knew he used to be a submarine mechanic?
We often stay in upscale hotels and do appreciate the differences in expectation from differing types of properties. Amanda's Village Motel well exceeds what you'd expect from a motel and we would stay there again. Maybe I'll bring my bike by for a full tune-up and put Joe's talent to the test!

We spent three days in Saranac Lake with our kids (14, 13 and 11) last week. This was a bit of a special trip for me in particular, as I had not returned to my hometown in 12 years. We found Amanda's Village Motel to be very clean, comfortable and conveniently located, with much more personality than any big name hotel chain we have stayed in. We loved sitting out on our porch in the evenings. But the nicest surprise of all was our hosts...Edie and Joe were warm, friendly and welcoming, sparing no effort to ensure that we enjoyed our stay, and even helping me with my own personal "historical tour" of Saranac Lake (I would never have otherwise known that all the street addresses had been changed since I was last there!) It sure was nice to have Tristan around to play with too, since we were missing our own dog, Jewel. We will definitely return, and next time we will bring Jewel with us. Thanks so much for everything, Edie and Joe.

we reserved room 3 for a trip to saranac lake over fathers day weekend 2015.
Our travel was for a tandem bicycle rally based in the town. Amandas was one of the closest lodgings to our start point for our weekend rides. when I placed the reservation, I inquired about the ability to keep our long bicycle inside the room overnight. This was acceptable. The owner stated that they host many cyclists in summer and winter sports fans in winter. their carefully carried gear is welcome in the rooms.
We were also looking for a room that was at ground level. This was the case with room 3. Two steps up and a straight shot from the porch to wheel our bike into the room. Upon arrival, several weeks after our placing the reservation, Edie remembered the details of our conversation when from making that reservation. nice continuity.
Our room faced their inner parking area. This provided shelter from the village traffic noise. entry was via a covered porch with outdoor seating for the rooms that opened onto this porch. the motel section across the parking lot had slightly more segregated sitting porches. Our room was modest and not vast, but large enough to accommodate our bicycle, baggage and room furniture nicely.
The bathroom in #3 is not accessible for someone with mobility issues. The gelcoated tub/shower was as spotless as i have ever seen. Water pressure was robust, but took about 25 sec to warm up (hot!) at the shower head. That showerhead was mounted high enough for this 6 footer to easily wash my hair underneath. Bathroom main light and fan were both operated from a timer switch, a bit odd. There was a separate conventionally switched light at the sink, but this is some distance from the doorway. Room 3 has two large corner plate glass windows and a pair of operable double hung sash that flank them. one is occupied by a window unit AC. There are good working venetian blinds to control room light. Heat is not provided via a wall mounted air handler. Rather, there is a real thermostat controlling hot water baseboard heating. Much more to my liking.
The room has a small cube refrigerator. No Hotel-style ice machine on site Ask the owners and they will deliver a ziploc bag of fresh cubes to your room that fits perfectly in the freezer compartment of the fridge. As vintage construction, electrical outlets are not all that convenient. we found that the entry light switch controlled a duplex outlet behind the low bureau. Spare outlet there for charging your electronic devices. Leave the wall switch in the on position and control the wall mounted entry light by its own fixture mounted switch to assure that your device gets fully charged. Decor consisted of nicely varnished real pine plank paneling, white ceiling tiles, modest crown moulding, commercial carpeting and vinyl flooring for the bath.
When it cam time to find dining nearby, both Edie and her husband provided fine recommendations for breakfast and dinner within walking distance, in the center of town. nearby there are a goodly collection of similar motels. some are on the lakefront on the other side of the street from Amandas. perhaps more picturesque, but somewhat harder as a pedestrian to walk from to the village center.
This is not a Doubletree chain property or the Sagamore, just a very well kept classic 40s-60s era roadside motel. If that is what you desire on your North Country visit, you will feel right at home. We will be back.

We've been staying at this motel usually for 4-5 nights beginning of July for over 5 years. Owners are very pleasant and helpful! Motel is clean and comfortable, conveniently located right on River Street - across the road from Flower Lake. Easy walk to downtown Saranac and 10 minute drive to Lake Placid. Every July 4th Saranac Lake shoot fireworks right across from motel - just grab a chair and enjoy the fun right outside the motel! Easy walk to bandshell and Saturday farmers market. 5-minute drive to Lake Colby for public beach - great for kids! Lots of walking/hiking trails within area. Guarantee a very pleasant stay!
