This is a classic hotel with a lot of history and almost in a time warp. Service was very good and attentive. Food was of good quality and a high standard. The outside seating is good for people watching although a little cramped. The toilets were clean.

The American Hotel is consistently good for dinner! They update the menu so locals enjoy the change. The service and quality are great. The setting is colonial so you enjoy a bit of history with your meal. The bar is vibrant and friendly and a hot night spot. This great place never disappoints!

Visited the restaurant as it was number 1 rated on Trip Advisor, unfortunately I can't understand how it is ranked so highly. Don't get me wrong the food and service is OK but it certainly doesn't match the price paid. Not a place I would return to given the amount of other decent restaurants in the area.

The American Hotel is in the heart of one of the most beautiful towns in New York. You stay here for its location and its history, not for its amenities or service. As with most older hotels, be prepared for some rickety furniture and creaky floors etc. That's, of course, part of the experience. So I have to give this... More

Have been coming here for years and never disappointed Very expensive but worth the value. wine list is silly and showy but still impressive. steaks, comfort food, good brunch, stayed in hotel, nice breakfast, style good, outdoor seasonal dining limited Staff can be pompous but will adjust after the usual comfort level is met. Cozy fireplace

The American Hotel is a Hamptons gem, located in the heart of Sag Harbor and a gathering spot for locals and visitors alike. First, the hotel. Our room was lovely in the way that well kept very old hotels tend to be when the proprietor genuinely cares. As mentioned, the hotel is quite old and small so it is a... More

If you love history and love food I recommend the American Hotel. It is an historic landmark. The food is very good for brunch, lunch or dinner. This is a real hotel and still functions as one. It has a lot of character. Go for brunch it is the best. There are about 8 rooms but no TV..that can be... More

The American hotel is located in the downtown area of town and hars the old world charm as when it was built. Friendly bartender who knew all the locals and specials. A lovely couple of hours spent here. .

Dining at the American hotel is a wonderful treat. Yesterday, we were pleased to be in attendance at a private party ( my son's wedding reception ). I know that they did not outdo themselves. Rather they hold themselves to their own exacting standards. The food was as expected, incredibly well prepared and equally well presented. The hotel itself has... More

Stopped for lunch last week and was overall very satisfied with menu', food, and service. Started with a squash soup with bacon that was outstanding! Creamy and flavorful with just the right amount of spice. Lunch selections were the duck sand which and Cobb salad with bacon, chicken and avocado. Both were well presented and flavorful. A nice California Chardonnay... More
