The rooms are small but beautifully decorated and clean. The bed in the standard room was a big, comfy king bed and I got a great nights sleep. Due to the compactness of the room, there are clothing hooks and underbed drawers instead of a dresser, but it works! The room almost has the feel of a cabin on a cruise ship, all space is utilized efficiently. (The only thing I wish they could have included is a mini fridge.)
The common areas are beautiful and there’s a welcoming lobby with ample seating. There are restaurants and a bar on the premises but there’s also a great casual restaurant (Happy Jacks), a neighborhood pub (Healy’s), a deli and a frozen yogurt shop directly across the street. I was there in February, but in warmer weather there’s a small rooftop pool and the ocean beach is a block away.
The staff was welcoming and helpful. I was really impressed with what a nice experience I had!
It should be noted that there’s a $45 per night resort fee on top of the room rate, but when I was checking out I mentioned to the clerk that I didn’t use any amenities because I was only in town for a funeral, he immediately waived the resort fee. He said it was hotel policy to waive it for cases of bereavement and told me to tell my friends about the policy for future reference.
I definitely recommend The Rockaway Hotel; it has more of a feel like smaller hotels I’ve stayed at in Ireland rather than big American chain hotels, but I view that as a plus.

Easy getaway from NYC, as the hotel is very conveniently located near to the NYC Ferry. Staff was very helpful and friendly throughout my stay, and went out of their way to accommodate any request. Room was simply furnished but comfortable, and I appreciated that they use toiletries made locally. There is a resort fee, but I was able to enjoy bike rides along the boardwalk on bicycles provide by the hotel, and I really enjoyed the free yoga or Pilates classes that I took each morning that I was there. The rooftop bar has great views of the ocean or bay, and was a great way to end the day. All in all, a great experience and a quickly and easy escape from the city

The Rockaway Hotel is a well appointed lux hotel with great views of the area and out to the Atlantic Ocean. We had a great short stay, inside the four walls however is the strength of the hotel- it’s staff. From the valet at the entrance, the Front desk folks who greet you with glasses of champagne and the housekeepers all are there to make sure your visit is perfect. A true gem.

We had brunch in the Pool House next to the swimming pool, We were pleased there was no chlorine smell, and the room was nicely shaded and had pleasant wooden tables and chairs.
Two of us had lobster rolls that were disgraceful, a large hard roll with a thin half layer consisting of a minuscule amount of lobster mixed with celery (about a tablespoon’s worth) for $30 each. A poke salad was heavy on the lettuce. A fried chicken sandwich was very dry with only a scattering of slaw and pickle.
The busboy dropped our water cups but did not change them or apologize. Other service was perfunctory.
I wanted to complain but was the guest of others at the table. They agreed, however, that the meal was poor, but said it was better on a previous occasion.
I am sad about this because I live here.

The service at the Rockaway Hotel is terrible. For all the money you spend at the hotel they are really quite awful. The front desk is often unhelpful and unfriendly. If you ask for anything at the front desk it takes so long to show up at the room that you might as well not even bother.

They have items in the rooms for purchase but they don't inventory them before you check-in so I was charged on multiple different stays for drinks I did not drink and snacks I did not eat.

When the pool is busy they told me to put my name and number down and they would let me know when a place opened, they did not let me know and when I asked the attendant at the pool they were so clueless it was laughable.

All of this to pay exorbitant rates for tiny rooms.

When paying $760.00 a night for a hotel room you expect certain standards to be met, unfortunately after our stay at Rockaway Beach Hotel we were left disappointed.

On arrival our bathroom was dirty with clumps of hair in various spots in the shower and on the floor. The main areas of the hotel were not particularly clean either.

We could not get any wifi in our room for the duration of our stay. Music played loudly until 1am each night.

We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant on our first evening and the food was so bad we had to send it back. The quality of the food in the rooftop and pool bar was also not great but better than the restaurant.

The hip decor may act as a facade on arrival but overall the quality of the hotel is poor and definitely not worth the price. The only upside of our stay was that the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Hello Alice, Thank you for taking the time to share about your experience, however, it seems as though we certainly did not meet your expectations and deliver a memorable experience as we strive to. We hope to have an opportunity to welcome you back, perhaps when there aren't many events or music programming, and make it up to you.

The hotel was just okay — nothing exceptional. While it was clean and had an artistic vibe, the rooms were quite small, which made things feel a bit cramped. The location was in a safe area, but it’s not very close to the city center, so getting around took some extra time.

A small spa was available, which was nice, but the room amenities were minimal for a 4.5-star hotel. The mini-bar seemed like a nice touch at first, but we were disappointed to find out it wasn’t complimentary. The staff was fine, but nothing particularly stood out in terms of service.

Overall, it’s a decent hotel, but not quite worth the high expectations we had.

The place is very upscale and clean. What makes me stay there as a regular customer is the staff that I have met in my most recent stay. Even though they are working away, they take the time to address your questions/ concerns or even to say, "how is your stay?" These employees were Oleksanda (Alex), who handled the front desk, Miles, Ed and Connor who were on the bar staff, and Gabrielle and Margo who made sure I was having a great time. The housekeeping staff of CeeCee and Mayensi should be complimented because they stopped what they were doing and assisted me in my request. It takes dedicated employees to make a place like The Rockaway be successful. I'm happy to have found this place in New York City. It's a reason I will be returning in the near future.

Stayed here recently for a required trip, and while I was nervous traveling during covid, the rooms were exceptionally clean and carefully maintained. I was impressed with covid safety measures- Sanitizer stations throughout the hotel, every employee wore masks, the rooms were cleaned and sanitized regularly. I loved the fact that it's walking distance to to the ocean. The design, art, and decor was trendy, and the views were amazing. They also offered yoga classes in the morning which was incredibly relaxing and peaceful with the ocean breeze.

Make sure to visit the pool and rooftop when you're visiting! In a city as large as New York, it's rare to find a pool at hotel that has food service as well as access to day beds and cabanas. The food was also surprisingly great for pool side, and the staff was super friendly. It seemed like it was kid friendly although most of the guests were adults. The rooftop had views of New York City, Jamaica bay, and the ocean which were incredible. We saw the most amazing sunset the night we ate there. The food was delicious and great for sharing. I heard they were also having movie nights which would be super fun. This is going on my list of my favorite rooftops to visit.

We were very fortunate to have opened early September during these tough Covid times and look forward to better times ahead. Stay Safe and wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving Best Julian

We recently stayed in the Rockaway Hotel for three nights.
It is not a four star hotel. We got off to a bad start and then things got worse.
Our confirmed reservation said free self parking available. When we arrived the valet told us that the free self parking was no longer available because they now installed a gate. They charged $35 to self park (three blocks away) and $40 valet.
As we entered the hotel there was vomit at the front entrance and the lobby. I was seconds from stepping in it. Staff seemed to be standing around but no one cleaning or covering it up. As we were walking to our room we notice the hallway rugs are badly stained.
We stayed in a standard king which was $507 a night including $45 resort fee and taxes. The rooms are very small, less than a foot on each side of the bed. No room to put luggage to unpack except for the floor or bed. No closet or storage. The bathroom sink was clogged, would not drain. There was mold around the bottom of the shower.
It is hard to believe that this hotel is only about two years old. Very disappointing.
Never again.
