2021 Travelers' Choice Best of the Best
The Rockaway Hotel is your urban beach getaway with a new view of New York City. Our unparalleled focus on high service, amenities and recreational relaxation creates an accessible respite whether you are a lifelong New Yorker or just here for a visit. We specialize in informal luxury, and custom guest experience elevated by curated art installations and cultural activations. The Rockaway Hotel: Retro, eclectic, and calming. Though each piece of furniture or accessory is unique in shape or story, the beach dictates that materials and textures should not be too precious — teak, linen, wool, leather and rattan. We believe that the design of a space is fundamental in influencing the way a guest feels, so it was our goal to unify a soothing palette with an energizing style. Architectural forms, textural details, curvy accessories, and bold shapes are at play in every space in the hotel, but are not without a touch of our signature Scandinavian design approach. The Rockaway Hotel will be a perfect getaway from the hustle of the city without losing the vitality we all crave. The Rockaway Hotel has several room types with views of the beach and the bay.

The Rockaway Hotel is ultra cool, fun, and beautiful, and exceeded all of my expectations for our recent girls’ bday weekend extravaganza! The aesthetic is urban chic meets cool beach vibes. The hotel management (e.g., Vilja!) and staff (e.g., JC!) were incredibly warm, impeccably professional, and welcomed us with lovely champagne cocktails. The two restaurants and cafe had delicious food, drinks, and coffee with superb and cheerful food-servers (e.g., Danielle!). The rooftop bar is a blast and offers beautiful city views. The rooms and beach view balconies are fantastic, as are the sumptuous common spaces that include a cozy fire in main lobby. The pool is the perfect temp and a super cool hang with excellent food/drink service. They also provided us with free bikes to ride around the boardwalk, which was really fun! And the spa! Oh my goodness, hands down the best massage (thank you, Jeannine!) and facial (thank you, Hencys) *ever*. It’s hard to believe the spa is only recently open, but under Peter’s exceptional leadership and Jennifer’s kind and capable stewardship. Best hotel and spa in NYC and beyond, run don’t walk to check this place out!

Stayed 1 night this past week. Property is located in a residential/light industrial area approximately 3 blocks from the water. Views were good, but there is plenty of city noise with planes, trains and automobiles. Greeted by the bell guys who were great. Check in was wonderful. The woman working the desk could not have been more pleasant. (Young man who also worked the desk not so much) Room is tiny, but well designed. Balcony and large windows make it seem larger than it was. No coffee maker (available downstairs) or mini fridge provided which is a miss. Shower and bath were nice. In high season, the bar on floor 6 would be an awesome place to eat and hang out, really cool space. Limited dining options on the same street as the hotel with many more about 8 blocks away. Reviewed bill and saw a $45 "resort fee" which is just a tack on to your base rate. I'm sure it is detailed somewhere on how you get free wi-fi, gym access etc, which should be included in the base room rate. Glad we stayed, but probably a one and done for us.

If the pandemic showed us that we don't have to go far to have a good time, for NYC locals,The Rockaway Hotel drives that point home. Treated two a 2-night stay there by some good friends to celebrate a milestone birthday, we were all blown away by everything about the hotel. Most of my career has been within various avenues of tourism, travel and hospitality, and the level of customer service The Rockaway Hotel's staff exhibits was comparable to what I've experienced in luxury hotels around the planet! I'd even go as far as to say it exceeded it. The majority of hotels in Manhattan don't hold a candle to what's being done at this comforting and special spot by the sea. The professionalism of their entire team (from top to bottom) was only enhanced by an authentic friendliness and warm welcome from the moment I approached the doors until the end of our stay. Perhaps that has something to do with hiring people who are local to the area and who appreciate the opportunity to be part of something unique and special. Whatever it is, I hope they keep doing it. While many new hotels sacrifice comfort for style and trendiness, their sophisticated, airy design and creature comforts are modern, warm and inviting, ensuring everyone will feel comfortable. As a born and bred Brooklynite, I feel extremely lucky and proud to have a property like yours in my own backyard. Since my stay there I've brought friends and family by to enjoy your rooftop events and now they've fallen under its spell too. When people ask me where they should go for a staycation or long weekend away, I now point them to The Rockaway Hotel. For anyone visiting the NYC area, put this place on your itinerary -- it'll be like a vacation while you're on vacation!

We live in NYC and took a "staycation" at the Rockaway Hotel Our room, though small, had a great view, and we thoroughly enjoyed out time at the pool area (the main reason we came). The pool food was quite good as well. As several other reviews have noted, there are still some kinks to be worked out, and they were a bit hard to tolerate given the sky-high prices. 1 - Most of the staff need training. When we had dinner at the hotel, the restaurant was less than half full, and there were many staff milling about. It still took us 20 minutes to place a drink order, followed by another long wait for our drinks, and an even longer wait for our food, which showed up cold. Additionally, several of the front desk staff were quite rude and responded to even basic inquiries with an air of annoyance. 2 - When we came down to eat breakfast around 9:30am, we were surprised to find that the hotel has no dining facilities that open before 1130 am. 3 - No one who worked in the hotel (and very few guests) work a mask, in violation of current CDC guidance that fully vaccinated people wear a mask in public indoor settings in areas of substantial or high transmission (which includes Rockaway Beach). The Rockaway Hotel had a great deal of potential; and we'll probably give it another shot at some point (though definitely not before they come into compliance with public heath guidance).

We had an amazing time at The Rockaway Hotel. From a Bellini at check-in, we knew we were going to have fun! The staff is so friendly and kind; the view from our room of the bay and Manhattan skyline is gorgeous; the bed is unbelievably comfortable; the beach is a block away; the pool is a great scene; both restaurants are seriously delicious, and the rooftop bar at sunset is magic. Great for families, couples and people working on their laptops, there was a feeling everyone was having a great time.
