Ashley and Laurie (The campgrounds staff) were extremely informative and accommodating. I haven’t been camping in nearly 30 years so I didn’t know what to expect, but the overnight stay exceeded my expectations. My two friends and I come to the beach at Fort Tilden all summer long via public transportation so it was refreshing that we were able to drop off our belongings after the 3 PM check-in and only take necessities to the beach. Ashley let us use one of the site’s wagons and some Tommy Bahama’s chairs for our beach day. After we watched the sun set on the beach, we came back to the site where the fire pit was already going strong. Our group of three had one large tent (that included a bed and a cot add-on). There were portable lights on our porch that came with each tent, as well as sunscreen, towels, wash cloths, a warm sleeping bag, and a blanket on top of the bed. Sometimes, when you are at a campground with people you don’t know, it can be a toss up as to how the vibe will be. While my friends and I were three single people, the other groups were all families. We ended up all getting along and had interesting conversations well into the late night (ask Ashley about the Camp Rockaway book club). After watching the sun rise over the beach the next morning (and having complimentary granola and fresh coffee brewed by Laurie) my friend and I tested out the showers. I was surprised to have warm water (via a pulley rope), as well as shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in each of the two showers. There were two porta-potties (but an actual restroom is about a 10 minute walk across the field). If you get up early enough, you may also see the horses in their fenced-off area (the cops ride them when patrolling the beach). Laurie also gave us some tips for things we could explore in the nearby area where we were able to get some great pictures. Check out was at 11, but Ashley held on to some of our backpacks so that we could get one last beach day in before heading back to the reality of working from our bedrooms. Fort Tilden is a unique place, but both Ashley and Laurie of Camp Rockaway made it even more special. I am looking forward to going back for two nights next summer!…
Last week for the first time we had our Grandchildren with us camping at Camp Rockaway on the canal and it was sooo relaxing. Our 20 yr old, 12 yr old and 2 1/2 yr old grandkids had a blast, from biking to hiking into town to kayaking and jumping into the canal for a quick refreshing dip at the end of the day. Didn’t want to leave. Will definitely be back with more family time. I love their tents..👍🏼
We had tent 3 and our granddaughters were next to us in the smaller tent. Slept like a log and woke up to the sun shining in to our tent. Walked over to the river and jumped in. What a way to start the day. Road bikes, kayaked, walked to town, walked through the beautiful adjacent park, watched boats come through the locks, read on the porch and more. The town of Schuylverville is an easy and beautiful walk away. Had great dinners at the local Mexican restaurant, breakfasts at Sweeney's, grilled over the fire pit and brought snacks and PB&J. We're going back.
I came here for a night with my kids and sisters and had an absolutely magical experience! The tents were set up so nicely, the bed was super comfortable (I’m 7 months pregnant!) and the setting is gorgeous. It is a three minute walk from a gorgeous quiet beach. I would highly recommend!
Very nice experience next to the historic Lake Champlain Canal. Wonderful accommodations. Fantastic outdoor shower and awesome host. Definitely recommend this to anyone traveling through Schuylerville.
Staying at Camp Rockaway was magical. The owners and caretakers were so friendly and helpful and without their recommendations we wouldn't have discovered how incredible the Rockaways are. The location is perfect - steps from the beach and a short bike ride or walk to Fort Tilden. The accommodations are so clean and lovely details and decor make it truly special. The perfect end to the night was roasting stores. Can't wait to go back!
We spent a night here over Memorial Day weekend. The owners were very nice. We cooked burgers on the community grill. The bathrooms were clean and the showers were nice and hot. There is a playground for children a two minute walk away.
We had a great family vacation at Camp Rockaway this summer. The staff was excellent. The location was so convenient to the beach and other areas. And the beds were very comfortable. I would definitely recommend staying here.
My wife and I stayed for a weeknight stay this past week as an end of summer getaway. Camp Rockaway was just what we needed. The camp was peaceful and quiet with fantastic access to the beach. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. The campfire and morning coffee were definitely a highlight. I would recommend you bring your own snacks and drinks as the local vendors are inaccessible from 6 pm to 9:30 am. But this just adds to feeling of getting away from it all.
My stay at Camp Rockaway was INCREDIBLE. We rented out the whole campground for a friends and family beach weekend and I am so glad we did. The tents are amazing and so comfortable. The staff is incredibly helpful and friends! Watching the moon rise and hearing the ocean all night is magical! I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
