The Hyatt Regency Rochester receives a mixed bag of reviews from guests, with some praising its comfortable atmosphere and prime location for events and views. However, others have called out inconsistencies in room cleanliness and housekeeping services.

Detailed Reviews
The bad: As many have commented, the elevator service was incredibly inconvenient. The hotel was very full on the night of my stay, I would of course expect a slight delay in the elevators, however we had to wait 20 minutes for an elevator and ended up walking down 25 flights of stairs. It was evident the stairs were meant for employees by the lack of cleanliness and upkeep, but with no other option we made do. The public bathrooms on the ballroom level were clean aside from the toilet paper holders that were broken off and the roll of toilet paper was on top of the sanitary napkin trash bin. The men who were operating the elevators were wearing sweat pants and t-shirts, at first I was confused as to if they were actual employees or not.
The rooms had two outlets, none of which were convenient for plugging in an iron. There was also a severe lack of light upon entering the room. The only lights were by the bed and in the back corner (with a small spotlight by the closet in the entry way and the bathroom light of course).
The good: the rooms were very clean, we lived the hardwood modern look in the rooms instead of the usual carpeted floors. The ballroom (we were there for a wedding) was GORGEOUS. The food during the wedding was good. Some courses better than others.
Morning brunch: the service here could have been better. Everything was very confusing, it was buffet but there were servers that were supposed to be filling waters and giving coffee. They didn’t seem too attentive so we ended up serving ourselves with water and coffee. The food here was also good, Eggs were not too runny and bacon was crisp.
Overall, the elevator service and lack of transparency by the hotel is what killed this review. Had we been notified that the elevators were under repair (it is still unclear as some employees said it was normal and some said it was under repair) management could have avoided a lot of angry customers. For $200 a night in Rochester, I would have rather drove home in the snow and not stayed on site.

Hi Adriana. Thank you for the review and feedback. We are sorry to hear that you were inconvenienced by the elevators. Our guest elevators are currently being replaced, which is why they are being operated and attended manually by staff members. The project will be done later this year. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the menu and wedding and we hope you are able to visit us again soon.

While this is a temporary issue, the manual elevator situation for NewYear's Eve was a disaster. I've been told this should be fixed soon, but the workaround was unacceptable. I'm not sure how this could have been better, except to have quick, analytical thinkers running the elevators instead of dividing the hotel into three sections. Wedding dinners usually have lowered expectations because if the mass production of it all, but this was unusually chaotic. The courses were spread over hours. Dinner came out after 9PM and was barely warm. I won't go into details, but it wasn't pretty. Brunch the next morning was chaos. Staff didn't replace napkins and silverware when people left, coffee service was extremely slow, no one knew where to get anything that was missing. This was a simple case of understaffing. A bin of clean napkins and silverware and self-serve coffee would have fixed nearly everything. The hotel is beautiful and in normal circumstances, it would have been fine, but this on the busiest night of the year.

My review would have been a 5 star if our room was cleaner, which during covid I would have expected much better from this hotel.
We booked a junior suite, which was a great room itself.
CONS:
First, when booking online directly with the hotel I requested that the pull out sofa be clean, with clean sheets and pillows on it for use as my toddler would be sleeping on it. Not only did we not even get the sheets or what I asked for, but the plain mattress was absolutely disgusting, old, stained , and springs about to poke out of it. Unacceptable. Why advertise that your suite has the pull out if you’re not prepared for people to actually use it?
The floor... disgusting as well. Our white socks were black on the bottom within just a couple hours.
Whoever had the room prior must have had a party there because I kept finding glitter everywhere, there was random pieces of tape on random things. It was odd, and obviously not cleaned well.
Oh gosh I forgot to mention the nail clippings I found on one of the chairs. (PUKE!!!)
Bathroom towels were sand paper and the shower water was warm- not hot.
PROS: quiet hotel and lovely staff. All staff I interacted with (check in, restaurant and bar) were so polite and welcoming!
Good location too, parking was easy.
Overall nice hotel I just think they dropped the ball on cleaning our room. Scary during these times. I regret spending the extra money for a suite that wasn’t clean.

This is the 2nd year we have traveled to the area with our daughter's dance team to attend a convention held there. Last year was her first time attending this event so I chose the Hyatt for the convenience of it being connected directly to the Convention Center where her dance events were taking place all weekend. From arrival to departure, we found the staff to be cold and monotone, and at times unapproachable. They made it known that they were at near maximum occupancy for the weekend and that asking for anything was putting them out. The restaurant had a very limited menu, and when we ordered pizza delivery for our dancers to be eaten in the lobby lounge/gathering area, we were reprimanded for bringing in outside food. Aside from that, the rooms are very poorly lit and offer minimum amenities (NO microwave!). The Queen beds are more like doubles and the adults didn't sleep very well with such little space. The biggest problem at this hotel, however, is the elevator system. The elevators kept breaking down over and over which made getting to and from our room with luggage a complete nightmare. For our second year attending this event, I wanted to avoid the disastrous experience from the year before so we had booked a different hotel in the area. To my disappointment, our reservation was transferred to the Hyatt due to renovations at our originally booked hotel so here we were again. The EXACT same issues happened AGAIN! Cold staff, broken elevators, limited menus...I mean it was complete deja vu. They tried to remedy the elevator situation by installing a RING system and they had an employee in each elevator with an iPad controlling what floor the cars would stop on. But even that only worked for a short time because come Sunday check-out, we waited 30 minutes on the 5th floor with several other guests with luggage while car after car kept passing our floor. This property clearly cannot handle the convention crowds it should be able to. There are no excuses for these same issues to persist year after year. I will definitely be booking elsewhere for next year's convention.

I booked this hotel for a few reasons, mainly price and proximity to where we had an a important meeting. My only room request was for a quiet room on a high floor (hoping to avoid noise).
The good: Room was newer, clean, bed comfortable. I like the non-carpeted floor for the sake of cleanliness. Bathroom amenities are nice including little items that I don’t always find at hotels. Breakfast was good, lobby areas clean and nice looking. All of the staff were pleasant.
the odd: The elevators are manned by staff, but it didn’t cause us any inconvenience. A sign said the elevators were being replaced or renovated with work scheduled to be completed this summer and a staff member confirmed this.
The bad: The room we were assigned had a door to the next room so it could be adjoining. The door has zero insulation and every sound, and I mean EVERY sound came through the door. I heard the first occupant *zip their suitcase* from inside my room.
Unfortunately the second set of occupants were generally loud, but were not by any means yelling or raising their voices. But each and every word, sigh, burp (dude- at least close your mouth) and *everything else* came into our room, as if they were IN our room. All the way up through 1 am. I downloaded a white noise app
which didn’t entirely solve the problem.
Now I don’t expect hotels to be silent, and most of this is on the people who seem to forget they aren’t at home and that other people are only a thin wall away, but I would suggest to management that they don’t use adjoining rooms for people who specifically asked for a quiet room. Sign outside the elevator not enough of a clue for everyone.
So I removed a star from what would have been a great stay—hoping management rethinks adjoining room assignments and considers replacing those doors.

We traveled to Rochester from Washington DC to visit with family in the Rochester and Buffalo area. Overall, we were pleased with the stay. The hotel is conveniently located in the downtown area and gave us easy access to I490 as we had to drive into Medina and up to Lake Ontario. The room we stayed in was very quiet and we had a nice view and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. The hotel was not providing house keeping services but did refresh amenities (towels, wash cloth, etc.) upon request. We absolutely loved the Starbucks which you can access from the hotel lobby. Surprisingly enough, the gift shop was well stocked with food items and adult beverages of choice that served us well as we were running around a lot. Most importantly, everyone of the hotel staff we talked to were so friendly and helpful from the moment we checked in to check out. They really helped to make our stay extra pleasant.

Towels are wrapped in plastic and everything as been wiped down and looks/feels clean. Internet is decent and the tv has Netflix and hbo for people subscribed to the service. Lots of sink counter space in my room and the bed is comfortable. Overall a very good experience so far for quarantining!

I am in the travel business. I stay in hotels at least 15 days per month. Last Saturday, June 25th my colleagues and I spent a night here (not by choice, but as per our company).
When I got to my room at 1:30AM everything “appeared” to be ok, until I started unpacking. When I went to use the bathroom I noticed hair on the toilet seat, then even more hair on the sink drain. The shower floor mat was placed where the hand towels are supposed to be, there were no wash cloths.
When I went to get in bed, it was full of hair. Even the pillow cases had hair on them.
I wanted to change rooms but I was way too tired plus I was totally unpacked at this point, so I called the front desk for somebody to come and change the sheets. They were “apologetic” and told me that they’d be sending somebody. When the person showed up with the clean sheets, she wanted to just drop off the sheets for me to change the bed. I could not believe what I was experiencing! I told the person that I needed somebody from the hotel to make the bed for me. She then told me she was going to do it. At the same time I called the front desk to talk to a supervisor or whoever was in charge. There were no managers, and no supervisors on property that night and wouldn’t be any on duty until Monday.
The next morning I went downstairs for breakfast and walked inside the restaurant to ask for a menu for a to-go order and was yelled by a waiter to go to the entrance and wait there. I decided to skip that place and go somewhere else for breakfast.
That Sunday there were no managers, no supervisors and most of the people at the front desk just did not care, some had attitudes.
I thought about talking to the general manager but after experiencing my interaction with several people on different departments on his team, I realized that was not going to lead to a productive outcome.
Also, I tried to communicate with the maids on my floor and oh my goodness… my maid was a guy (from the other side of the world. Nothing wrong with that but…) did not speak any English, was wearing jeans, a baseball cap and had tattoos. Seems like this Hyatt property does not train their housekeeping staff on basic job responsibilities.
When we left the hotel that Sunday afternoon without me saying anything to my colleagues, they started to complain about how dirty the rooms were and how noisy it was in the hotel.
Good Luck!

I drove in so I’m not sure about transportation from the airport. The location of the hotel itself does not seem to be an area you’d want to be walking in. Other members on our trip went outside the hotel in the early evening hours for a walk and were stopped by the police and told it wasn’t safe they needed to go back inside the hotel! I had a vehicle so I never had to walk anywhere. I drove to the event I was attending every day. Only went from the parking ramp to the lobby. Hope this helps!
