This is a very unique B&B. The rooms are truly adorable and a few to choose from. There was no shortage of history at this B&B. Our favorite part was the porch. It was quiet and peaceful. Rosemary the hostess was very accommodating to our schedule and she made the most delicious breakfast.

My friends and I were looking for something different than a hotel chain and we're so lucky we stumbled upon the Ellwanger! Nestled among gardens and a forest, our room (the Victorian Suite) provided a fantastic view of the lush grounds. And at breakfast we even saw a fawn traipse across the lawn! It was like we were in the... More

We recently stayed at the Ellwanger Estate for a long weekend. The house is an old mansion that has been renovated to include modern conveniences while still keeping the beautiful historical details intact. There were many thoughtful and considerate touches that show how much the owner has put into the place. The covered porch and the formal gardens are gorgeous... More

Rochester was our "half way" point on the way from Maine to Stratford, Ontario and we chose the Ellwanger Estate because it looked interesting. And that was our lucky day. We were welcomed by Rosemary, who showed us around the house and then on to our suite, and then on the gardens. The house is so interesting, we could have... More

I am afraid to say this because I don't want to create a stampede to this door, but this is one of the nicest bed and breakfasts you will find anywhere. The location relative to downtown Rochester is excellent. For those visiting the George Eastman Museum, it is 10 minutes and four turns door to door. It's location is right... More

I have been subconsciously a bit reluctant to give away this find, but having had one amazing stay after another while visiting my son at the University of Rochester over the past 1 1/2 years in this beautifully restored historic home, I am finally compelled to write my very first review on TripAdvisor before I return for what must be... I booked two rooms for a colleague and I who made a trip to Rochester. Rosemary, the innkeeper, was fabulous and went beyond the call. One of of the days we stayed there, we went back to the house to get some work done and a short while later she came out with fresh-baked chocolate cake. If I were to... More

We stayed at the Ellwanger Estate for two nights (October 30th and 31st) while visiting friends in the area. The Woodland Suite was clean, comfortable and the Arts and Crafts style decor in the private sitting room is lovely. They have preserved a lot of the original features and gorgeous woodwork, but thankfully a modern bed and bathroom. The bed... More

We just visited Ellwanger for the 3rd time this past weekend. It was wonderful again. We stayed in the Woodland Suite which has a King size bed and a nice sitting room. Rosemary always makes us feel welcome. She serves a wonderful breakfast too. Besides the room, the estate is very interesting with a built in pipe organ and an... More
