Upon check-in we encountered a very hospitable and friendly receptionist who tried very hard to make our stay pleasant, but unfortunately it didn’t turn out that way. We found it to be an antiquated hotel in need of major renovations and quality upgrades. There appear to be areas of the hotel where the owner has attempted to fix and/or modernize... More

When we looked at this online, it looked like a funky/cosy place ON A LAKE. However, we arrived and wer einformed we were staying in the "Hotel" -- which was in town and absolutely not cosy in the good sense. Our rooms (we went with another couple) were directly off of a common area where people took breakfast and passed... More

I am sorry you were disappointed. Hall of Fame weekend is a busy and exciting time for everyone in our area. There were four great ball players inducted this summer. I am glad you came to enjoy the lake- the exercise class was brief- less than an hour- from 10-11 am- they do have fun exercising beside the lake and... More

Rustic Reject! Rate this D- Let's start with outside: if you park at the front gardens watch out for 4ft high thistles. Broken down equipment greets you to the side of this inn. Watch walking to the lake as goose poo is everywhere. Disarray at the waterfront with broken down boats, chairs askew, again broken equipment is part of the... More

Thanks for writing such a detailed critique of our place. We appreciate your input. I have looked for the thistles and broken equipment-can't find them but do see the beautifully tended flowers, wide plank floors and antique wooden boats by the water. I guess if you didn't want anyone to see into your bathroom, you should have closed both the... More

Rustic hotels in many area can be charming, and pleasant, but The Lake House is not one of them. We come to Cooperstown and Glimmerglass Operas for many years, and this stay is one of the worst. We could put up with bathroom door that do not shut and toilet that do not flush. The view to the Lake was... More

It is true that there was music on Friday and Saturday nights. Generally, they start at 6 and play until 9 because we do have an early dinner crowd. We are great fans of Glimmerglass Opera and recognize that after listening to such beautiful music, any other music seems loud. We rarely put on the radio after leaving the Glimmerglass... More

We (two couples) stayed at the Lake House on July 24 and 25, 2015. We were given rooms at the hotel (in the town of Richfield Springs) that were cramped and located directly adjacent to a noisy common area that also served as the breakfast room. There was no staff available late at night to control the noise. Although the... More

I am sorry that you were disappointed with your room. The rooms are non-smoking and your suggestion that the porch also be non-smoking is a good one which we will implement. Hall of Fame weekend is a huge weekend with rooms available at a premium. Induction this year was especially popular with four big name baseball stars inducted. Rooms were... More

The lake is pretty, but not swimmable at this resort due to weeds. The dock needs replacing-several sections had particle board instead of lumber. We picked up some broken glass and metal on the shore. I grew up around lakes, and I don't mind muck and a few weeds but we couldn't swim here. Breakfast was continental, with some hard... More

This hotel is located in the past resort area for the elite. It is a great lodge with simple but comfortable rooms. The hotel has a good terrace restaurant overlooking the lake which services excellent meals. Their black and blue burger was tasty and the evening special of roasted duck was well prepared. The duck was truly a half duckling... More

We shared the cottage with another family. There were 7 of us total. Plenty of sleeping room. Our boys were playing basbeall at Cooperstown Dreams Park. The drive to the Dreams Park is 27-30 minutes. the pork belly was fantastic. The burger was very RAW inside. The waitress's had no uniforms and looked like they were going to clean house, not wait on tables. Thanks for your review and comments. Our waitresses wear black and white or black and black- we do not have standardized uniforms. The building is old- built in 1843 and we try to reflect and respect its era with furnishings and lighting. Winter was brutally cold and our yews/evergreens suffered. We have been nursing them back to life- pruning sparingly... More
