The location is what it is all about! We sat on our balcony with amazing Hudson River views. Watching sailboats, kayaks and freighters never grows tiresome. Train is close - very close - but it is over in a moment and then all is quiet again. I feel the train adds to the experience. Breakfast was huge portion - eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, toast, delicious french pressed coffee - all made to order. One item was unexpected and if I were traveling alone I would not have been happy - the staff LEAVE in the evening and don't come back until morning. We were there off season - so it was just US and one other person in the entire hotel. The gentleman told us the night before he was the only person in the building. The locks on all the outside entrances to hotel are old and are not key swipes. They need to improve their security. Would be very easy for someone to get into this building at night.…
Not pretentious, not "basic", just good fun on the Hudson. No elevator!! Warning :-) Awesome views & right next to the train station! A fun little bar in the basement, great staff. A word to anyone traveling in the area - Rhinecliff and Rhinebeck are a few miles apart, and cab or Uber services are a bit of a challenge. There ain't much in Rhinecliff, so most of your social / food activities are going to be someplace else (likely Rhinebeck or across the river).
I recently designed a wedding at the Rhinecliff and it was a spectacular setting. The staff is gracious, the views are unforgettable and the amenities worked well for us. Any request we had was handled swiftly, the guest rooms were spacious. All in all, great choice!
A short getaway to the Hudson Valley to celebrate an anniversary seemed ideal and it was for the most part. We choose The Rhinecliff because if offered a view of the Hudson River which we were looking forward to along with a Restaurant and Pub on site. We held our breaths as we approached the building which appeared to be in need of refurbishing. So upon entering the hallway to our 2nd floor room the rugs were tattered, the paint was chipping and the blinds were dusty and haphazardly opened at random levels. Our room was amply large, but furniture was wanting.Really could have used a few nighttables. Our bathroom also quite large, but also in need of an update, especially grouting which had long ago turned black hopefully from age. Yes, breakfast was provided(which we missed) which consisted of muffins, eggs and bacon. We learned that another couple was staying at The Rhinecliff, and dinner was not available and the bar did not open until 5pm. It seems the staff was preparing for a few weddings in the coming days. The banquet facilities looked fine, however the housekeeping and need for a complete update would be a discouraging factor. The king-size bed was comfortable and the air-conditioning was adequate. Rhinebeck is just a few miles away and has a wealth of choices of Inns and hotels along with some outstanding restaurants.…
Prompted to write this review by a recent family wedding at the Rhinecliff. The good things first: the bartender is the hardest working (and often the only person working) at the Rhinecliff. He did his best and was very nice and capable. We filled the hotel for the weekend, wedding for 90, brunch for 50. The wedding was prepaid, but no one used that money to hire sufficient staff to run it. There was, bizarrely, only a skeleton staff at this full hotel on a holiday weekend, hosting a wedding. For example on the first morning, breakfast was advertised for 8-11 am. There was no cook at work by 8:30, and other staff decided to give it their level best. Results were predictably mixed, service was pretty terrible (no one busing tables, food orders mixed up, took forever) but we were fed. This was with maybe a dozen people in the restaurant. Brunch the next day for 50 people, completely and unbelievably inadequate. Set for 10am, and no food out until closer to 11. Dirty tables sat for hours, while the staff of one banquet manager and two apparently untrained high school kids tried to serve breakfast for 50. The guests were literally setting tables and wiping rainwater off of chairs. We constantly lacked coffee, plates, and cups. We took forks from the bus station or we would have had no forks. It was actually as if they didn't know that we were coming. There are no walkable food choices nearby so you are a captive and hungry audience at the Rhinecliff. In the actual hotel, the rooms need a facelift and a deep clean. Stains on furniture and on walls, the outside porch needed cleaning, beds too soft and pillows insanely soft. No drawers to put anything, lighting is dim. A/C is very loud but not louder than the train whistle. They do provide earplugs. All this for almost $300 a night, unbelievable. In spite of that we had a lovely wedding thanks to our great family, but honestly it was no thanks to the management of the Rhinecliff.…
