Booked the queen water view room on Danfords website, as I was unable to reach a person on the phone. I wanted to ask about the “Renovations” at the property before booking. Our Water view room included a lovely view of a full dumpster and busy parking lot . Work crews started early. The room itself had a stained carpet, a broken toilet paper holder, an unstable bedside stand, and all the doors were hard to open. There is only a single chair in the room to sit on. The shared roof top deck with tables and chairs is lovely and I enjoyed watching the ferries. We had a great dinner from the limited menu, breakfast not available at this time. It’s a great location.

Dear Far Away, Thank you for being our guest. We appreciate the feedback. Our hotel is currently remodeling our guests rooms to offer our guests an updated experience. We have full buildings closed at each time so a guest will not encounter a work crew. Our crews only work during regular business hours. We are finishing up the work now and have received great feedback about our renovated room product. When your travel calls for your to return to Port Jefferson I hope you will stay with us again to let us know what you think. Thank you again for your comments. Sincerely, Michael Bonawandt General Manager

The location is central, close to Main Street and many eateries. Keep in mind the hotel has several buildings. My room was in the loft of Driftwood (D12), facing the street with a good amount of traffic. Being a light sleeper, I asked if there was a room facing the waters (away from the street). I was told, because of the constructions, no. But there was no visible constructions anywhere. The room itself was clean, though, and the bed was comfortable. The TV had many channels. The bathroom heat lamp didn't work. Oh, when I weighed myself on the old-fashion scale, I was 90 lbs overweight that morning at 240 lbs! It was because it was already set at 90 when with no one on it. Finally, the the restaurant on site doesn't serve breakfast. There are other places in town to go, of course.

Timfl2016, Thank you for being our guest. I appreciate the time you took to give us your feedback. While we do have rooms out for renovation - I am glad you didn't see any - that means they are doing a good job and keep them quite so as not to disturb our guests. While you stayed with us in our winter hours of operation when breakfast is not served mid-week - we are now open 7 days a week. I hope to welcome you back soon so you can let us know what you think of the renovations! Sincerely, Michael Bonawandt General Manager

We are 80 years old. They gave us a disgusting room on the third floor walk up. The carpet and chairs were all stained, The lamp shades were falling apart, garbage left in the hallways, etc., etc. My husband was a fireman and he said he saw a lot of fire violations.

Dear F54kRjackiem, Thank you for being our guest. Due to the historic nature of our hotel, the majority of the guest rooms are walk up and two of our buildings have elevators. All of the room descriptions have details about where they are located, what floor they are on, etc. I hope that you were able to book your reservation on Danfords.com directly so were able to see this. As you can see from the other reviews of the hotel, most guests do find the accommodations to their liking, however, we are currently undergoing a full renovation of all of our guest rooms to be completed by Memorial Day Weekend, so hopefully you will have the opportunity to stay with us again to see what you think of the renovation. Our hotel works very closely with all our Town and Village officials and is up to code in all areas. Many towns do differ so perhaps that is where your husband may have noticed something. I appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you to Danfords again soon. Sincerely, Michael Bonawandt General Manager

I went there with a girlfriend for a 4 day getaway. She lives on Long Island and I did too for many years so was already familiar with the Port Jeff area though I had never stayed at Danford's. The price was right and the view was pretty. We chose Danford's because the little town of Port Jeff is great for strolling, shopping and dining. The first evening, I was tired from traveling from Nashville, and it was pouring rain so we decided to eat at the Wave restaurant in the hotel. It is very pretty and had a nice menu. We sat in a cozy little spot near the bar though the dining room looked beautiful. Our server was Martina. She was quick to come over and checked on us regularly. I had the salmon and it was some of the best I've ever had. After dinner and a couple drinks, we headed to our room. The layout of the hotel is nice, a few small buildings with several rooms in each building. On check-in, we noticed a strong musty smell in the lobby and when we entered the building for our room, it smelled bad too. I was really concerned about how the room would be because I have asthma and allergies and didn't think I could stay the night if it smelled too. Thankfully, the room didn't have any odor at all. The condition of the room was more updated than the lobby and buildings themselves and was fine for our stay but we did notice that the chairs and benches at the end of the beds were really threadbare. The carpet was old and there will many visible snags. Pretty much everything seems to need a major renovation. The beds and bedding were very comfy. Nice hot showers and a good sized bathroom, I loved that it included a wall mounted makeup mirror! We went to the onsite spa, Butterfly, the next day and were greeted by LuAnn (I had spoken to her a couple times before the trip to arrange our treatments). She was as welcoming and pleasant in person as she had been on the phone. She is very service oriented. We both had facials and I had a massage. The massage was really wonderful and Paula gave me suggestions to help with some of the issues I came in with, e.g., stress level, achy back. My friend had a mani/pedi with LuAnn and was really happy with the services. We visited the restaurant/bar again later in the week and Martina was there and even remembered our drink preferences. She was so cheerful and attentive. She deserves a special shout out! Overall our stay was nice but the condition of the hotel really needs attention. All staff were nice and the hotel's proximity to the Port Jeff town is a real attraction.

First off let me say that My wife and I loved Danfords. During the summer months we ride my motorcycle there and enjoyed the outdoor marina, food and music. So much so that we had our wedding there in 2019. It was exceptional and we heard nothing but good things from our guests. Now here we are 2 1/2 years later and when my wife suggested we stay there overnight for my birthday we booked the same room (Presidential Suite) we had for 2 nights during our wedding. Now, we had heard that Danfords was sold to a major hotel chain recently but did not think how that would effect the place that we came to love. Sadly to say we were wrong, in just 2 1/2 years the change in the hotel, Wave restaurant and level of service had dropped considerably. The hotel is shabby, run down and in need of a good cleaning, the quality of the food has also suffered, pre-made as opposed to fresh and the service personnel are all young and inexperienced. The biggest disappointment was has happened to the so called Presidential Suite. It was pristine when we last stayed there, clean, immaculate and a pleasure to stay in. Now...the carpets are stained, torn, tables scratched, tv in the bedroom didn't work, where there was a king size mattress in the master they now have a queen but still on the king size frame, it looks ridiculous. There is grout missing between the tiles in the bathroom, the window sills, lamps and table tops have not been dusted in weeks. Yet there charge the same prices as they used to. We were extremely disappointed and left as soon as we awoke this morning as opposed to our plan to have breakfast there and walk around town. It's obvious that the employees are all in limbo under the new ownership and really don't give a dam about the once excellent reputation of the Hotel. I recommend you stay elsewhere. I have attached pictures so you can see I'm not just sour grapes.

Danford Inn is nestled near the marina and in walking distance from Starbucks and shops. I took the LIRR and the station is about an 8 dollar Uber driver to hotel. Rooms are spacious and clean. The wave restaurant on property is good for drinks and breakfast. The wifi connection was choppy and I didn’t fry a strong signal from my room. Other than that, I would stay here again.

For the price they charge, I was expecting a 5 star hotel. This hotel in my opinion is a good 3 start hotel. I had a village view room on the first floor in the building across the street from the main lobby. This would be a decent value at $199 a night and a good value at $159 a night. Unfortunately, they charge more which is why I can only give a 3 star rating.

I stayed for 1 night after missing the last ferry. Shabby, run down, really needs a re-do. Had planned to stay for 1/2 day, but left instead....I do not see any reason to go back..there must be some chain motel that is less depressing. And expensive!

This hotel has been a local landmark in Port Jefferson for a long time with its location right on the marina and next to the loading area for the ferry. However, there are a few items about this hotel to be aware of when booking. First, the hotel is actually made up of several buildings not attached to the main building. Additionally, some of the buildings have very steep stairs which can be an issue with luggage. The rooms are clean with decent bathrooms but are beginning to show some age and could use an upgrade especially with the pricey rates. The on-site restaurants are excellent with competitive prices.

Dear RRConklin, Thank you for the review. As you stated - Danfords sits at the waterfront in Port Jefferson Village and is a complex made up of 11 different buildings. As a boutique hotel - all our room types are unique and, therefore, our guest room descriptions are very detailed so you know if it is a walk up, what floor it maybe on, and if there is elevator access. Our guests love the charm and character of Danfords for sure! We are currently upgrading and renovating all our guest rooms so I hope you will stay with us again and let us know what you think. I look forward to welcoming you back.

where to start - its not a safe or family place - both nights we had incidents - a group of five drunks at 2:30 in the morning outside of our room - lying on the carpet laughing and crying and smashed ! the second night there was a LOUD VIOLENT problem in the room below us in the driftwood building with a loud frightening out of control man threatening someone and screaming for them to come out. when we called the front desk - "yeah we heard we are sending someone over " - how about calling the police?? Next the rooms - the carpets are filthy , FILTHY. in the rooms and the patios. the patio carpets damp and moldy. out table was cracked with sharp rough plastic edges protruding and the umbrella was broken - they were so slow to react and replace or even consider it a problem. . on the lesser side but still annoying - chipped pant everywhere., all the flowers baskets full of dead stems etc, , cheap lousy coffee makers - had to get the guy to show how it worked - but he and front desk says "yeah happens a lot " outrageous for $1700 dollars for 3 days. no apologizes about the dangerous loud nights. really low class. I could go on. we have talked to the police and are in the process of finding out the owners names - when we called to complain they refused to connect us to the executive office and the owners. we think we will talk to local papers as well - this place needs an accounting and to clean up its act.
