Luxury, elegance, intimacy, breathtaking views of the caldera...Alexander’s is a boutique hotel consisting of suites, cave villas and cave houses all named after precious and semi-precious stones, according to Cycladic architecture. We are a hotel with less steps. We have been recommended by the New York Times, the Independent and the Daily Telegraph. Our hotel was the main location of the film “Thira.” Special occasions are magical when held at Alexander’s.
This is a long one. But first things first, Thank you Ms Virginia - you are a blessing to the wanderers in Santorini
We chose Santorini for our honeymoon and the month was December. Now, many would frown at the suggestion of Santorini in December. After all, it's an off season, its the winter and the rain together, it's strong winds and it's everything shut down. So why Santorini? If you want to know, you can ask me and I'd be glad to answer.
Our Santorini trip was for 4 days, of which 1 was rainy and the other 3 were absolute romantic sunny days with the slight cool in the wind which you would feel at 14 degee C. However, one of the highlights on our honeymoon was our stay at Alexander's boutique.
Pros: Amazing Location Some of the picturesque spots are within the Hotel itself Amazing service and OMG Gorgeous Accommodations. Very close to the good walking path that leads to the picturesque wind mills in Oia.
Cons: Cats. But they take care of them and that's common across Oia. Not just in the hotel.
Our experience at Santorini: After a less than an hour flight from Athens, we reached the hotel in 30 minutes. It was evening but given the peak winter in December, it was quite dark already. We were welcomed by Ms. Virginia and Mr. Atif. And they were kind enough to upgrade us into a suite with a private balcony. Now, many would think that's the reason I am head over heels about AB Hotel. But, my initial booking was also with a private balcony. Just that this was on a higher level and had additional rooms. Over the next 4 days of stay, they took very good care of us. And, in fact, I was lucky to have Ms Virginia share a catamaran ride with us too. She was right in her suggestion of taking the catamran ride on the day when we were otherwise on our way to do the usual Fira, Oia and Imerovigli trip. Glad we trusted her decision!
Over all, don't think twice about living here. Also, AB happens to be one of the few hotels that remain open throughout the year.
Thank you very much Ms. Virginia and Aleaxander's Boutique Hotel for this amazing stay. It would definitely be a memory worth our honeymoon.
I wish I had taken negative reviews more seriously. These guys are big cons and we saw that again and again while we stayed there for 4 nights.
The website for this place has variable rates and when you get too close to travel date, you must call and make the reservation. When I called the place, the person agreed to book us in "Superior Cave villa " for 5 nights for 4 people @ 267 dollars per night. I was naive to give my credit card info on phone. I emailed them twice to send me confirmation email with exact details. But nothing came back. After a week when I saw my credit card bill, I saw they charged me 342 Euros per night. When I called them regarding the same, they said that was the current rate and as the booking was non refundable, they will not do anything except refunding a night that we cancelled due to flight issues. Since they didn't provide any type of receipt or confirmation, our credit card firm was not able to help with the fraud either. We just had to live with it.
When we went there, the place looked similar to the pictures. That's how they get you. Other than that, you get the simplest cold breakfast with chewy bread, sponge cake, fruits and "fresh juice" from a bottle. The jacuzzi is shared between 3 rooms(not at all romantic as you might imagine). The receptionist was super cold and didnt care for the guests much.
Most of the people we met there complained about the same. When they arrive, receptionist claimed the price being for 2 and charge double the money for 3rd or 4th person. One family even had to stay across the street.
If this was not enough, when we were going out, my husband went back to the room to get something and he saw the cleaner opening out backpack. When we complained, the receptionist suddenly got very polite and started taking his side saying hes been working there for long. We even wondered if shes part of the team.
I cant believe how many people these guys con every day. Hope this review will save more people. Please don't waste your precious vacation and hard earned money on this place!!
Me and my husband had spent 3 wonderful days at Alexander's boutique. They've put us in a suite with private hydromassage and a wonderful sea view (even if our reservation was for a less expensive room) We saw also the other rooms, they are very nice, but nothing was better than this suite. Every morning we had breakfast on our mini terrace. We strongly reccomned this place. Note that it is quite expensive, but it's worth it.
I’ll start with the positives. The views are spectacular. The staff especially Virginia and Thanos were very friendly and always helpful. Any requests were promptly executed. The breakfast is simple and fresh although I would recommend they change it up a little as our 3 meals were identical. Now the negatives. The facility is a set of caves. Ours was a 1 bedroom suite. The decor is old and dilapidated. The bed is horrible. An old lumpy spring mattress on a concrete base. I had one queen and two singles and one was worse then the other. The pillows were bad. The bedding was cheap Walmart sheets and my grandmas blankets from the 60’s. The TV was a small computer monitor with only channels in greek. Over 35 channels and not one even CNN International. The A/C was old but functional to keep the cave cool. There was a noisy dehumidifier in the bedroom which has to be turned off in order to sleep. The shower was okay as the fixtures were new. Like most european hotel it’s low pressure. The shower curtain was disgusting. The kitchen was adequate but the supplies were gross. The coffee jar seemed very old and the sugar jar was all clumps. It would have been nice if they gave you some supplies for the Nespresso machine rather than the old ratty drip coffee machine. The Jacuzzi was dirty so I mentioned it when we were walk to our room and I quickly saw a staff member cleaning it. Would have been nice if he cleaned out more than about half the sand. Lastly, I can’t say enough about the staff and views but whoever owns this facility neither needs to drop the price 60% (we paid just over $500/night) or get a professional designer in and do a FULL remodel and definitely drop the Luxury from your name cause your nowhere close
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It’s in a great location right in the cliffs of Oia with beautiful caldera views. The breakfast is simple but nice. It’s a little steep getting to the reception and rooms below with many stairs, something to be mindful of.
The best part of our stay was the advice provided by Thanos at reception. He was so helpful and gave us great suggestions for our visit to Santorini, and he made many reservations for us and acted as a wonderful concierge.
