We've visited Santorini a dozen times over the last half century : Captain Johns is the absolute best! This tiny hotel boasts only 4 accommodations. But oh, what accommodations! High on the slope of the caldera; it’s views are unimpeded and breathtakingly spectacular! It is located at the far end of beautiful but overly touristic Oia and offers a degree of privacy that is extremely rare on Santorini. There’s a well equipped little mini market a five minute walk away. And the center of town with restos, stores and travel agencies is another 10 minutes away on foot. But we never left our terrace at sunset because our view was so spectacular! Captain John’s is about 100 meters from the start of the classic Oia-Fira hiking trail which we particularly appreciated! Spectacular! Our unit had its own fully equipped kitchen, a spacious living room and a separate bedroom. The manager, Christina , is totally lovely and cannot do enough to make you feel welcome. Fresh linens were supplied every day, and the fridge was stocked with a starter kit of bottled water, milk, orange juice and even croisants! We arrived late at night, but Captain John himself met thé taxi that Christina arranged to pick us up at the airport and helped us carry our bags to our rooms. I’d note that Oia is probably not a great town for folks with mobility issues due to its location on the rim of Santorini’s magnificent extinct volcano. Lots of ups and downs! But for us, it was truly paradise! Best features: the views; thé privacy....and the wonderfully friendly people who run the place!…
We stayed at Captain John's from April 5th-9th, 2019, and were amazed by it's incredible view and location. We stayed in the cave house which was very cute and charming. The rooms have a shared patio that offers such an incredible view of Oia and the sea. Captain John's is located in the perfect location; it is right on the end of the caldera, and is just a 5 minute walking distance to Oia. It is also located right next to the start of the Fira-Oia hiking trail. Our room had a kitchen table, sink, bar fridge, sofa, and TV. It was very well kept and clean. Cristina let us see a larger room while we were there and it was so beautifully kept and spacious, ideal for more people. Since it was our first time in Greece, we were unsure of how long we should stay in Santorini. Four days was a perfect amount of time for April. There are so many breathtakingly gorgeous views and it is picture perfect everywhere. If you are looking to travel to Santorini when it is hot, I recommend visiting in May-September, so you can visit some of the beaches and other summer attractions. In early April it was a bit cooler and rainy at times, but we were still able to explore a lot and enjoy the peacefulness. Cristina and Captain John were both so welcoming and kind. I highly recommend staying here and would love to return.…
Captain John’s is literally the last building at Oia. It is a bit hard to find, but if you follow directions to the exclusive private resorts of Ikies or Perivolas you get there. The view really can’t get any better - and this what you probably come here for. Yet, Captain John’s is a bit away from the crowds. Very idillyic and quiet. It’s about a 15-20 minutes walk to Oia - a pleasant an scenic walkt though. Christina, who manages all by herself, is very charming and helpful. She runs six beautiful authentically decorated B&B studios. But those apartments do not lack anything and may easily compete with the many luxury resorts you feel very homey at and would like to stay for much longer. And yet, all that comes at an afordable price, which is not that easy to find in Santorini. Thank you Christina. We’d certainly stay again if we visit Santorini again in the future. Captain John’s is a gem.…
Highly recommended. Met by Christina who was lovely and very helpful throughout our stay. Apartment very spacious, spotless and had everything we needed including milk, butter, jam and croissants in fridge for breakfast. Location is also excellent and about a 10min stroll into Oia. Terrace was great to sit and watch sunset in the evening away from the crowds in the town. Would stay here again in a heartbeat - loved it
We recently stayed here and was greeted by Captain John. He was very welcoming and friendly! The views of our apartment was amazing!! The location is also good as well! The rooms were clean and comfortable. Christiana was very helpful!! Our ferry to Crete was not until 5pm so we asked what we could do that day. She recommended a sailing tour and that tour would take us straight to the port! She even helped us book a car rental in Crete as well! Thank you so much for your hospitality! We had a wonderful stay in Santorini!!!
