We spent two nights at Ekuthuleni Lodge with our girls aged 7 and 9. The family room was great with a loft room with 2 single beds and best of all 2 separate bathrooms, one with a shower and the other with a bath. The staff were so helpful and friendly. The game drives weren't too long for the children... More

Ekuthuleni Lodge lives up to its Zulu name - 'place of peace' - even in chilly July. The bushveld is in good condition despite the dry summer. The varying terrain (valleys and plains), trees and grasses together with exquisite sunrises and sunsets extends the usual excitement of seeing animals and birds in their natural environment. We were well looked after... More

What a wonderful weekend! The staff all round was amazing. The food was fantastic. Truly a 5-star experience. The lodge and rooms have a beautiful view of the open plains and hills. Jonas, our guide, was very informative and went out of his way to make our game drives an exceptional experience.

Yebo! The Soulman spent a few days at this lodge in Welgevonden to start the new year with my brother from Switzerland and we had a fantastic stay at Ekuthuleni - Top location in Welgevonden Game Reserve, great food prepared by the one and only Stephen (hail to all the Malawian chefs!) and served by Jack and their respective teams.... My wife and I went to Ekuthuleni lodge for our anniversary and we had the most amazing time. They have very friendly staff and we were treated like royalty from the time we arrived. Our comments are related to our bad experience of having arrived at the lodge for a 3 night stay, only to find that much of the area was badly burnt, including the surrounds of the lodge itself. This made it impossible to be outside, due to the acrid smell of burnt grass, still smouldering, also a lack of water from... More

Dear Dr Frankel The fire we experienced in Welgevonden was a natural fire which was caused by lightening. This is obviously beyond our control. On the day of your arrival the fire in the vicinity of the lodge and surrounds had been extinguished. Hence we felt it unnecessary to inform guests arriving on that day. The other guests at the... We were very fortunate for our first experience in the African bush to be at Ekuthuleni Lodge. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Situated in the heart of the malaria-free Welgevonden Private Game Reserve in South Africa, Ekuthuleni Lodge invites you to savour true African luxury. Ekuthuleni Lodge, meaning "place of peace," has sweeping views of the Savannah plains, and is home to the Big Five and many other species of game. Ekuthuleni Lodge invites guests to relax next to the swimming pool overlooking sweeping grassy plains, or watch the sun as its sets at the end of an African day. If the weather is cool, curl up with a book in one of the comfortable lounges before enjoying a delicious meal prepared with the freshest ingredients available. Meals can be enjoyed in the cosy dining room or the open air deck, sheltered from the elements by a reed awning. Each of the five suites offer intimacy and privacy, with magnificent views of the grasslands, giving a whole new meaning to nature on your doorstep. The romantic bathrooms open onto a private courtyard and have both indoor and outdoor showers. Two daily game drives are conducted by experienced rangers who will provide intimate details of the abundant flora and fauna, many of which is unique to the Waterberg. Watch the morning sun scribble intriguing patterns across the veld and contemplate the day's journey. Enjoy an early morning safari and watch Africa awaken in front of your eyes. Then head home for a scrumptious breakfast before settling down for your midday siesta. After sundowner drinks, allow the darkness of the African bush to envelop you on your evening game safari. Nightlife abounds in the African bush and dangers lurk everywhere. Lions on the hunt and leopards stalking prey in the cover of darkness are truly magnificent sights to behold. ... more   less
