The solitude is supreme. No cell phone signal, no wifi except for a small radius at the main lodge, a wonderful place to disconnect from the world and reconnect with the earth and your special someone. My wife and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary here for four days, and rested and hiked and canoed and went "mossing" (yes, it's a thing) and had a lovely time. That being said, at $1450/night (tax/fees, etc. all included), I would expect top quality meals, impeccable accommodations, and bellhops, valets, etc. all in the setting of stark wilderness just outside the door. The stark wilderness is certainly there, but accommodations are basic, meals are worth at most $15-20/meal, and staff while helpful was not adequate at this price point. We were even asked to pay extra for a bottle of wine (their selection of wines is also extremely basic, bring your own if you want decent wines), which is insulting at this price point, especially for a $20 bottle. My wife and I travel a lot, and money is no issue, but this was on the whole a poor value, and we won't be back.…
I have stayed at Elk Lake Lodge every September except during Covid for the last 12 years. The amazing trails, lakes and vistas are shared with just a few others! It's a wonderful place to escape the other crowded trails. Often you will hike and not see another person! The food is delicious. Accommodations are a bit rustic but you are really paying for access to the fabulous private trails and lakes, not fancy rooms. I will return every year as long as I can!
We recently visited the Elk Lake and had a wonderful stay in Marcy Cottage. The staff at the lodge could not have been more wonderful, they truly give you the feeling that this is their home and they are proud to share it with you. As other reviewers have stated, this may not be the vacation for you if you cannot disconnect for a few days but otherwise it is just an amazing place to visit. Our meals were top notch and the "bagged" lunch was perfect for the area. The draw is clearly the scenery, hot coffee overlooking the lake and high peaks was definitely a high point of the day. Kayaks and Canoes were readily available and trails were clearly marked. We are already planning for a fall visit to see the foliage!
Awesome place, surrounded by the most beautiful scenery ! Cozy, warm atmosphere and great service. Food and activities are included! The place is very rustic and well maintained! Plenty of things to do especially if you love the outdoors. 12000 acres of trails and a gorgeous lake.
This was our fifth visit to Elk Lake Lodge. The cabins are nice, service is great and the activities are plentiful. The weather was superb this year. We hiked, ran, walked, and did lots of kayaking. Great spot!!!
It has been 15 years since we last stayed and at least another 15 before I return. The price is very high for what you get. The food is mediocre at best. Rooms comparable to a camp bunk.Worst of all the staff is very unfriendly. Today they were closing for the season and at breakfast taking plates before having a chance to finish eating. I will say the scenery and hiking are spectacular but you pay a high price for it
The Elk Lake Lodge is a wonderful property down a five mile dirt road. Tucked on a lake shore deep in the Adirondacks, it has been around for a very, very long time and continues to offer nightly room and board. Meals are included in the nightly, per person, room price and are exceptionally delicious. Three meals are included in each stay: a dinner on arrival night, breakfast in the morning and a trail lunch. There is no internet in the satellite cabins and I hope it always stays that way. There is no cell service on the property, either. There is WiFi available in the Main Lodge but please, get outside and breath in the air! I can't wait to go back. This place is convenient to five high peaks (of the 46er list) and has plenty of boats for use by guests on the beautiful Elk Lake. Check it out!…
You may have to book cabins a year or more in advance I believe, but this place is spectacular! One of the best kept secrets of the Adirondack region. Go out on the lake and enjoy breathtaking views. If hiking is your thing, there are many miles to check out. Trails are well kept. Occasionally you will see moose, bear, deer, and grouse near the trails.
Loved the hiking trails and access to the lake. No tv or contact with the world. Nice to get away from it all 3 meals are provided. Recently renovated. Rooms clean. Bathrooms tiny. But you don’t hang out in the room. Rustic feel. Lovely dining room overlooking the lake
No tv, no paper, no phone, no iPad. Food spoils you, time is yours and uninterrupted. Now to scenery which is matchless, hiking and self-powered boating with a tasty trail lunch, friendly staff, nice grounds, pleasant accommodations. A true family getaway made special in so many ways.
