These rural accomodations are located in a flora of Papaya, Goiaba and Mango trees. Built out of stone and adobe, they are ecological, natural, traditional, as well as clean and comfortable.Situated in the highlands, the area offers several sunny and shaded spots where you can relax as well as swim in the 60 m2 natural swimming pond. It is an ideal starting point for walks, trips and hikes in the valley of Paul. Interspersed in these routes are local villages, where you will get an opportunity to meet the local population and have a taste of the Cape Verdian culture.

We loved our stay at this Eco lodge. The hut was very clean and well looked after. The whole property overlooks the valley, facing the surrounding mountains. Excellent base for hikes, the pool then cools you down (rather cold but moreso refresing in December). We extended our stay and did the coastal walk (Ponta do Sol is roughly an hour away) while overnighting at Aldeia Manga. Marion and Fred at the reception as well as the other staff were helpful and very pleasant. Highly recommended - we can't wait to return!

Aldeia Manga is that place, where you can heal your soul. My stay in November 2021 will always stay in my brightest memories. We lived at the Papaia house, were brilliantly served by the house staff (special thanks to lovely Marion and amazing Ricardo), and just deep-dived into the atmosphere of this special spot on earth. Thank you for making those few days wonderful and rejuvenating for us. I can't wait till I am back and until then, I hope many more people will have the chance to visit this extraordinary home in the middle of the green mountains of Santo Antão. Thank you dear Aldeia Manga.

Situated on a hill in the most beautiful valley on the most beautiful island in Cape Verde, Aldeia Manga is a little piece of paradise. It is effectively an eco lodge. Simple bungalows on a hill, no frills but beautifully set on the hillside. Getting to it is an experience in itself. The meals are communal, you eat together on a covered veranda and for us that was a huge part of the charm; the opportunity to exchange experiences and travelling ideas with the other guests. This is a destination for walkers. The trails weave along the valley sides, through intensively cultivated small holdings of sugar cane, bananas, almonds, bread fruit, and all manner of vegetables. The paths are good but can be vertiginous in places. Probably the best spot in all our Cape Verde stay (and we did Sal, Santiago, Santo Antao and Sao Vicente)

Positives: - overall character and atmosphere of the place is truly special. All the huts and houses are situated in a (very) large garden, you are encircled by plants, trees and feel that you really are in the middle of the Capeverdean nature. We've been staying in a larger holiday house with two floors and plenty of space but the smaller bungalows look very nice as well. - pool! It is actually an artificial pond with lots of small fish and warm water. You cannot get anything better after the whole day full of trekking. And the view on the mountains right in front of you is just stunning. - both managers are very communicative and will give you various ideas for hiking (they have lots of colourful maps but always just one copy, so you need to make a photo of them). They will also arrange a taxi that you will need to reach more distant places where you will start your trips (like the Cova crater etc.). And they have a guitar available that you can play! - I also liked the eco-friendly attitude - clearly visible effort to minimize waste etc., I think it's sth. that deserves our praise. Negatives: - it is not anything bad per se but keep in mind that you are relatively far away from any cities/villages. If you came for trekking - as probably most of the people do - you are in a right place, but if you need shops etc., you have to take a taxi to get there. - the same goes with the dining options - aldeia manga serves a buffet dinner each evening for 12 euros per person, it is a good way how to spend time with other guests on the terrace and enjoying the magic atmosphere of the place, but again - it is basically the only choice. If you want to have sth. else, nothing is too close by.

I stayed at the wonderful Eco Lodge, Aldeia Manga, with my cousin last year and it remains one of the highlights of my lifetime of holidaying experiences. We were looked after so well and cheerfully by Carmelita, Elton and all the staff and the views, our lodging and the delicious food were all to be celebrated. It felt like a hidden paradise after a long journey to get there. It is a truly beautiful, unique place and the lodge sits proudly amongst the hills as a monument to the kindness, care and friendliness of the people of Santo Antao. If you want a special, tranquil time ...head for Aldeia Manga! Simon and Mathew

A good place to rest after hiking. The rooms are simple and basic thatched huts with no distracting luxuries. Instead you will find a nice pool area (in fact the pool is a pond in which you can take a swim or let the small fish pedicure your tired feet) and a dining section that invites you to meet the other guests to exchange experiences and tips for your next hike.

The half dozen rooms are separate cabins, furnished basically but adequately, and with en-suite facilities. The site is steep and access is down a steep flight of steps, but the reward is the fantastic views of this amazing and very fertile valley; quite a contrast to much of Cape Verde. Service was good; English spoken. Good food; buffet meals on a part-covered terrace. The staff will arrange transport for walks, ferry transfers, and getting to other parts of the island; they can also provide information about local walks. Unusually for Cape Verde, there is a (very nice) pool.

Very good place to stay with delicious food. Ask on the haber a collectivo to Aldeia Manga and the bring you for a few euro near the front door of Aldeia. The speak English, Portugese and Creool. Nice to visit are for example Ponta del Sol. Many beautiful walks possible in the area.

We spent two nights in this delightful place run with great efficiency by the charming Arlinda The bungalows are large but basic; there is plenty of hot water and a lovely siting area outside if a gale had not been blowing! The gardens are beautiful and very lush but the swimming pool was not very inviting unless just to dangle your feet amongst the tadpoles. Dinner is a buffet on the terrace which, unfortunately, has no enclosure so all the guests were wrapped up. The food is excellent with lots of fresh salad, vegetables, a main dish of fish or meat and pizzas. There is a homemade pudding and a glass of grogue included. The honesty bar is an excellent idea as you could have a drink - beer, sodas, sterilised wate - whenever you liked and just sign for it. There was a lively atmosphere as several different nationalities ate together at the adjacent tables and people would have stayed outside longer if it had not been so cold and windy. Breakfast was also good with fruit, bread, omelette, catchup a,cheese, ham etc. I would love to stay here again when the weather is better!

We had the cottage which is set up above the main building and has the most amazing views done the Ribeira. Ok you have quite a few step steps to get there but it is worth it and you have your own terrace and sun loungers The accommodation is a bit basic, there is a large lounge with a second double bed, table and chairs, cooker, table and chairs and they supply crockery and cutlery so you could cook yourself if you wanted to. The bedroom has another double bed and a chest of draws, the only hanging space is a number of hooks on the wall. The bathroom has a large shower and its own water heater so the water is always lovely and warm. It is all a bit basic but adequate. If you don't like ants in your room this may not be the place for you as they got on everything. No air conditioning , so you open the windows but close them in the evening because of the biting midges etc They don't clean your room on a daily basis so make your own bed and clean up our own things. Breakfast is good and adequate, fresh juice, fresh bread, fruit, ham, cheese, an egg dish and biscuits. You can book in for dinner and we did as there is no where else to go to. This was a very varied array of buffet dishes and the quantities supplied were more than sufficient for the number of guests. The starter was a vegetable soup and they tended to all taste the same. The mains would be some pizza, spanish omelette type dish, either tuna or chicken, a variety of vegetable. Basic cooking and all fresh and tasty but after 3 days it was tending to get a bit the same. There is a 'natural' swimming pool i.e. green with fish in it. After a good walk it is nice to let the fish nibble your feet. The staff were lovely and you can do some good walks from here - all involving steep hills. Sadly reception had run out of the local walking maps. They can arrange taxis for you to go places with some notice or you can walk down to the 'main' road for an aluguer down to Paul where you can get others to go further.
