We stayed at the Melia Dunas Resort in May this year. Overall I would say this is a 4 star hotel - it may be a 5 star on the island, however in the grand scheme of things this is not a luxury hotel, comparing it to others I have visited in other countries. Staff: Excellent staff in general, they were excellent with my son and always said hello. However, there is a slight language barrier with some which can mean questions aren't answered properly e.g. what type of fish is it etc. Food: The food at the buffet is very good, they certainly know their way around a piece of meat or fish! Barbecue at Atlantis for lunch is always delicious and pasta/salad/grains are nice. Desserts are way too sweet with little actual flavour - although the tiramisu was good. Snacks: Really lacking here, the wait between lunch and dinner wasn't great with a toddler who needs smaller meals at more regular intervals. There was also nowhere to get icecream or lollys. I would have happily paid for these even but there wasn't any around. Drinks: Wine and cocktails were fine but not branded liquor - again, at a 5 star resort I would expect top shelf spirits. Minibar: Always plenty of water but that's it. Again, a 5 star hotel I would expect beers, cans and some snacks. Entertainment: We were in bed early most nights with a young child but there wasn't much atmosphere in general. I think the hotel is limited to about 25% capacity so there's not much going on. Africa show was good though at the amphitheater. Room: Spacious, very clean and bed comfortable. Maids were lovely. So many mosquitos. Bring plug ins and sprays. Beach: Lovely beach, clean and beds comfortable. Always plenty of beds available. Overall I would say for how much we paid this hotel was fine. But if you're looking for 5 star/luxury, this is not for you.

Karamo & Josimar looked after us so well! Their service is the reason we keep coming back to this gorgeous hotel. Thanks so much again both - your looking after us and going the extra mile was so appreciated! We had issues with our room but it was quickly resolved, moved rooms with absolute ease ans now we are ready to enjoy a fun filled week at this fab hotel.

Wonderful place! Very kind and professional service, people here are helpful and polite. Rooms and hotel spaces are clean and nicely designed. Food and drinks are tasty, there is a huge choice of them. Our vacation were fantastic, we came back relaxed with smiles on our faces and wonderful memories. I can highly recommend Melia Dunas for people visiting Cabo Verde, especially choosing "The Level". When visiting Cabo Verde you should also go for "Postcards from Sal" trip - amazing experience and wonderful views. I hope to visit this special place again :)

Currently here on our first day, the resort looks very nice and the welcome was fun, big rooms! The restaurants and service are just amazing to say the least. So far so good, if anything changes I'll update the post. For now I would recommend staying here. Day 3: it's still just amazing! Went for an island tour as well, I highly recommend it.

We have just returned from the Melia Dunas Resort. We stayed for 10 nights and had a wonderful experience. Upgrading to the Level is well worth the money in terms of dining and drink options. This a beautiful hotel and the the staff were friendly the and service we experienced was truly 5 star. The staff went out of their way to make sure our visit was memorable. The room facilities were comprehensive , spotlessly clean, very effective aircon and we had a great view of the sea. Level lunch menu was available by the Level Pool. A great selection of snacks with orders taken by the staff and then the food delivered to us by the pool. A lovely touch which everyone enjoyed. When we visited the resort, it was fairly quiet and you could see the hotel and island were still affected by Covid. Some of the restaurants, like Sahel, were not available during our visit and we thought the evening entertainment could have been more extensive. But these are minor points and we definitely want to return. Indeed we chatted with some fellow guests from different countries who were already on their fifth visit to this hotel ! We can see why. Thank you so much.

Amazing holiday, 2 adults and 2 small kids and we all loved our stay. The pools are amazing, beach is lovely (tho you’ll need to swim within the breakwater as the sea outside this can be quite rough) and staff are very friendly. I have read reviews about some staff being rude and un-interested but I think this comes down to a language barrier more than anything else as we never experienced this – special mention to Fabio at Belvu who was great with the kids. The food at the buffet was nice enough, it is a buffet so it’s never going to be fine dining but there’s a good selection so you’ll always find something you like, the clams and seafood stew were very nice. In terms of cons I would just point out; - Our meal at Rancho wasn’t great and my wife would have sent her meal back had we been paying for it there and then (we heard similar feedback from other guests). - The shower and bathroom grouting was mouldy and needs a good scrub. - The bath water was yellow (likely to do with the landscape on the island as it’s basically a desert). A few tips for future travellers. - Take snacks – especially if you have kids. There’s always a restaurant open but the “snacks” are proper meals like hot-dogs/burgers or calamari and chips as opposed to things like crackers, nuts, crisps etc.. You can buy in Santa Maria but they’re expensive (like 1 Euro for a packet of crisps). - Santa Maria is worth visiting. I wasn’t sure at first as I have a 5 and a 3 year old but it’s 100% safe, the locals are friendly, beach is beautiful and nice bars/restaurants along the beach. The hotel provides a free shuttle there in the morning and back late afternoon, although we only stayed a few hours so just got a taxi back which took about 5 mins. - Take mosquito spray. You need to bear in mind that the hotel is still getting up to speed after Covid so there are a few bits of work needed in and around the resort, however some of the negative reviews on here are extreme. As a family we had a great experience and will definitely look to come back in the future.

Beautiful beach Horrible food. There is no variety. Front desk customer service pathetic except for Claudia who is very customer oriented. Asked manager if he was the resort manager he denied he was manager. This resort is very poorly run. Rooms not cleaned everyday. We got to our room at 6pm it was not cleaned. Tried to ask why they could not explain it as no one speaks english In case of emergency if you dial front desk no one picks up. Rooms not properly cleaned Glasses for drinks smells like it was never washed. Very dirty place ...no cleanness at all. Staff in buffet are very polite and helpful. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!

How was my stay at Melia Sol Dunas? I bought holidays with TUI UK to spend my first, after COVID, overseas holidays in Sol Dunas Resort. I’ve chosen it because of my previous experience (what can I say best holidays ever!!) My expectations was high, really high. First holidays abroad since early 2020, sun, sea, food and evening entertainments… Just couldn’t wait… Beginning was rather bumpy: limited food, Spice restaurant closed so buffet was served in Mosaic restaurant, no evening entertainment, some maintenance issues. I was bit disappointed, frustrated, started documenting all issues, creating list of complaints… It was not what I expected. Because of that I didn’t see anything around me. Nice and polite staff which only tried to make my stay as lovely as can be, some of food which was absolutely delicious, clean room, fantastic bed, views, weather, blue skies, amazing drinks, swimming pool only for me (9.30am)… I’ve planned how much refund I will claim from TUI… after 2 days I had a conversation with my husband and we just had one conclusion: no refund or any of this frustrations will give us back time so stupidly lost for complaining. On Tuesday morning I spoke with our TUI rep, in the evening we have met guest experience rep from Melia and you know what it was worth it. Lady said to me she still have some time to change my experience and she did. I was spoiled to rotten. She was able to change everything, she went above and beyond. She and rest of the staff need a huge HUGE THANK YOU!!! Don’t get me wrong resort still need some work and most important, smart management which will choose quality instead quantity. We need to remember whole world recovering after two very hard years (resort AS WELL) They still struggling with food deliveries, staff issues and prices constantly rising. I’ve read reviews about this place after coming to the hotel, some of they are bit extreme. I absolutely understand it’s your holiday and you pay for it but: isn’t in your next door, grocery store you still see empty shelves? Isn’t your favourite restaurant closed? Aren’t prices for everything going and going up in your country? We need open our minds a little bit, stop being so entitled and give them a bit of credit. I strongly believe we will see Melia Sol Dunas again in much deserved glory. Happy holidays, I had fantastic time thank you for your hard work. Hope to see you soon.
