New modern hotel and the rooms were fine with nice check-in staff. The “local and international dishes are served in gastronomic restaurant” was a joke though. Barely cooked chicken, cold chips that were unrecognisable as chips and a Caesar salad with 2 lettuce leaves, minced chicken and no dressing. The staff were indifferent and the restaurant service was v poor. We arrived late, were tired and stayed there for a meal which was a mistake. Go into town to eat. Breakfast was better and we were amused by the signs saying that only one breakfast visit per resident was allowed! Flies are a problem

Great Resort, great rooms very comfortable. The food was great and the bar Staff on the resort were so professional. On the beach, there is an amazing spot called the Marley Bar...this was an amazing experience and made our holiday. The music was great, the atmosphere and views were breathtaking. The cocktails were delicious and a special mention to the beach bar staff especially Jay, who was extremely welcoming and professional...will definitely come again. Can't wait for next year

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights waiting for our UK flight home, after holidaying on Maio. The room was comfortable & very clean. The pool was huge and amazing! Reception very friendly & helpful. Breakfast was very good with lots of choice. The only criticism was that there was no kettle in the room or tea/coffee facilities. The clients seemed to be mainly German, which isn't the case in other hotels nearer the centre, as we've been coming to Cape Verde for 17 years!

This is a great hotel/resort. I had a 4 person suite which had a large living area with comfy sofa (prob also a bed) dining table & kitchen area plus a double bedroom . It also had a long balcony with seating, air con & two tvs. It was clean & well maintained; a great comfortable base for a relaxing holiday. The resort itself is beautiful; winding paths between the 3 storey blocks, packed with tropical plants & 4 gorgeous pools of different sizes, each with a bar. One bar was closed during my stay but this was my favourite as it was quieter. That said, the resort wasn’t too busy. It is a bigger hotel than I would usually choose but it’s well designed & walking round is a real pleasure. Buggies take & fetch you & your luggage betwwen reception & yr room. The food in Spices restaurant was great; so much choice at all meals & certain things are cooked to order. I didn’t see any flies at all ( as mentioned in other reviews). I especially loved the daily roast ( meat or fish) at dinner & the omelettes at breakfast. Terrazzo Italian was also very good, as was the lunch at Grille. Evening shows at the outdoor theatre were great, especially Lion King & the amazing Africa Show. The beach is stunning, especially if you walk away from the loungers & past the private villas. There’s a lifeguard at the swimming area & they do stop people swimming if the sea is rough. I paid 10E to use the spa one day when it rained. This was a bit disappointing as some faculties were not in use but the jacuzzi & relaxation room were good. All the staff at Sal Dunas are amazing; they work so hard & are friendly & helpful. Big shout out to Victoria, Solange & Reny who helped in my first couple of days & always asked how I was getting on. Great for solo travellers, familles, couples or friends. A bonus is you’re first to be dropped off & last to be picked up on airport runs but it’s only 15 mins away. I loved Sal Island & Sol Dunas & will definitely be back 😎

Lovely hotel with approx 50 rooms I think, but this made the hotel nice and not overcrowded, the staff were lovely and the service at meal times was great. Not alot cooked breakfast option mainly booked eggs scrambled eggs , but lots if fruit yoghurt ham cheese cereals cakes croissants plenty to choose from . The pool was cold but once you got in was nice , the hotel was nit right in santa maria town a short walk away down the main street or on the beach promenade. ⛱️ would highly recommend Sal its was lovely to see their culture, the saltlakes, lemon sharks , the sea is magnificent but also powerful and can be dangerous, the current etc knocked me off my feet !! I don't think it's a holiday resort for young children . Overall it was an amazing holiday with it being New years eve whilst away the gala dinner in our hotel exceptional 👌 and fireworks on the beach. Also a lovely Irish pub down on the prom The Dubliner great food and drink there too. Would definitely go again sometime xx

Dear Jaleimen, Thank you very much for your time to send this great review about our Hotel and Sal as a destination. Just please alow me to say that the sea is not always as strong as you have experienced, in fact most of the Summer, Spring and even Autum months have calm and vey safe sea , specially in our beautifull Santa Maria Beach. Thank you again for your kindness and wish you a great 2023! Best regards

This hotel has everything you need for a relaxed vacation, They deserve more than 5 stars for the GREAT service and good quality! the receptionists make you feel welcome, the security guard and the gardener are always with a smile, the staff at the bar and restaurant are very polite, friendly, and they have a good timing on everything. The Menu and cocktails are AMAZING! we tried almost everything. The room we stayed in was very comfortable, clean and private. The housekeeping comes everyday to change and replace everything you need. The spa & welness were amazing too.. (try the deep tissue massage and the chocolate treatment) you won't regret it! The live music bands and dance entertainments were our favorites. It's a wonderful place to recharge your energy! The hotel is also perfectly located, 5 minutes walking to the beach and 15 minutes to Santa Maria, you can get in 3 minutes if you get a taxi (€ 3,- euros). We are definitely coming back.

Nice and quiet at the pool with nice bougainville and palm trees. Also good sun beds at the beach a few minutes walking from the hotel. You pay a deposit for beach towels. Room and bathroom are good, spacious and clean. Bed a bit hard for our liking. Good light for reading. You have to pay extra to use the safe. Like other accomodations rooms can be a bit noisy sometimes. Breakfast has enough variation to choose your liking - we didn't like the juices from the machine. A lot of sparrows terrorize breakfast and try to steal your bread, sit on plates and glasses. It's a nice little bird but not on my breakfast.. Free WiFi is especially in the afternoon and evening not good and too slow for internet. It's located between other resorts. Santa Maria is about 20 minutes walking on a good road.

Dear Petra, Thannk you very much for taking the taime to write a review regarding your recent stay at Hotel Dunas de Sal. We are very happy that in general you had a positive experiente. We are sorry about the sparrows but as you say with lovely buganvileaas and Palm trees arround it is inevitable to have them around. We would maybe suggest on a next time for you to sit inside the restaurant where your food will be safer from the terrible ones. :) As for the internet we will investigate and adjust for other guests to have better conection. Thank you for letting us know!. Wish you a great December and hope to see you in 2023. Best regards

This hotel offers those wanting to get away from the all inclusive resorts of the island a boutique luxury escape that is perfect for experiencing local culture in a serene luxury environment. ACCOMMODATION We stayed in one of the suites on the top floor overlooking the pool. It was massive with separate living area and bedroom, awesome bathroom room with walk in shower & a full length balcony that offers great views of the whole hotel and pool below. AREAS The hotel is set up in a U shape with the pool as the focal point from there it has only 3 floors of rooms giving it a boutique feel compared to the mega resorts of the island that can be over crowded, here that was not the case. You have multiple pool to choose from, gym, restaurant and bar all in east reach. GASTRONOMY Breakfast was awesome, a buffet style including made to order eggs. Dinner was great with seafood being my favorite. ACTIVITIES The team can help you to organise all the island activities and for those wanting to venture out themselves they have some super cool bicycles to rent. LOCATION Based in the same area as the major resorts it’s about 15min walk to the historic area, take the beach walkway as it offers spectacular views.

Staff were so helpful & friendly. Location was great, across the road from beach and about 15min walk to the centre of town with loads of restaurants/bars. Rooms were really clean, beds comfortable and shower always had warm water. Great air con too which was needed! Breakfast buffet had a bit of everything and was very tasty. Hotel is small enough that it never felt too busy and we didn't feel anonymous which was nice. They also have their own beds on Santa Maria beach across the road which is the most amazing long golden sand beach. Only downsides were that the wifi wasn't great and the beds around the pool were mostly in the shade except a few at the back which were always taken quickly. But with a lovely beach so close by this wasn't a major issue.

This was my third time staying in this hotel and the experience has been similar to my previous visits. The rooms are basic but clean and decently maintained. Aircon works perfect. Wardrobe  could do with a few more hangers, 6 isn't enough. Hot or even warm water in the bathroom is still an issue, I had to go to the reception several times and ask them to turn on the extra heater for the water. I made the mistake of paying a supplement for a superior room, which is a waste of money. Apart from the family rooms all the rooms are the exact same, my room just had a closed off balcony, which really isn't worth the 500€ I paid extra for 2 weeks. The restaurant still serves a great breakfast, with a lot of variation every day. There are snacks available the whole day. Due to bad experiences with the dinner service the last two times I was here, I never bothered trying the restaurant in the evening again. From what I heard from other guests, it still isn't great. This is still very much a Bed and Breakfast hotel for me. It can't compete with the plethora of great restaurants available in Santa Maria, which is only a 10 min walk away. If I had to address one complaint about the hotel, it would be the service. The staff is very friendly and will always help. But a lot of them barely speak English and some can't even understand what you mean when you point to an item on the menu. This is a management problem, they really need to invest in better training for their staff because they mean well and really try. Overall, I still like this hotel very much

Dear Mr. Hrodgard, First of all I would like to apologise for the delay in our answer to your comment which related with technical constrains from our side. But please be sure that we take your feedback very seriously and for that reason would like to come back to you on your points. We are happy to hear that you frequently find our Hotel clean as this is one of our key stones. Concerning hangers we have additional hangers available upon request and I'm sorry that this information didn't come accross to you. We will work on a sign to have in the wardrobe with this information to assist you and other guest's in the future. I have investigated and proceed to a change in the way we address water temperature in the room. Just to make you understand 90% of our energy comes from solar pannels which makes us be more sustainable and only on darker days this technology is not sufficient to produce enough energy. The backup system has been re-programed and is now fixed for your and all our guest's comfort. Regarding the area of the room I hear from your comment that you don't appreciate a private balcony as much as other guests do and we respect your opinion but while being a must to others also the superior room include additional tea / coffee maker which standard rooms do not offer. Thank you for sharing such good feedback about our breakfast. I feel sorry you didn't try our dinner options this time to have your personal feedback as well. In fact plenty of our guest's choose to stay with us on Bed, Breakfast and Dinner Package and go out to experience the vibrant Santa Maria F&B options for Lunch as it is so close to us as you say. Last but not least hearing that our staff is very friendly and willing to help makes my day already as this is something you just can not teach. What we can teach is language and other technical skills which we do on a constant basis despite your perception. Very reaspectfully I thank you for your time in writting about your experience. Best regards,
