I actually visited over New Years 2019-2020-‘ and I had the best time. I definitely compare things to this holiday. The staff was just amazing, as helpful as can be! And there was one specific bartender called Nerlene that deserves a pay raise due to ALWAYS being friendly - no matter how annoying the customer was! She never let that smile slip of. Food was a amazing and as a vegan I always found food and never went hungry. They had several different plant based milks . I would recommend this place to everyone looking for an amazing holiday!
It is huge! The barman said that the maximum is 3000 guests, as the hotel is twinned with Sal, the hotel adjoining it which you have access to. This means that the sun beds by the pool go quickly, with towels marking guests places. The sad reality is that they never sit in them and the hotel does nothing to stop this. The food is foul, never changes and is nearly all frozen. It is not an excuse that everything is flown in, as the Rui hotels food was far superior. It is clear that nothing is checked before it leaves the kitchen as well. Evidenced by the taste. It also sounds like a school cafeteria, a complete sensory head wreck with its echo and noise as you attempt to consume the dreadful matter. Mined, the local flies seemed to like it. Actually they must have loved the food, as there was loads of them! The spirits are non-drinkable by them selfs, really quite disgusting, though if you make them into cocktails they are ok. The beer is quite good. But I would strongly recommend that you bring your own pint cup, as all drinks are provided in tiny plastic beakers that appear to hold less than half a pint. The beach is good, and there are often plentiful amounts of sun lounges on it, the sea is also beautiful. And despite some reviews, the beach is relatively clean. The gym is small, though adequate with some free weights and a few machines. Many of the staff appear to have forgotten English during the pandemic, and will say yes to things when ask a question, regardless whether or not it is the right answer. Or you ask a question and they will just look at you and point to colleague, if you are lucky. Or just walk off while you’re speaking to them. I was quite surprised by one member of staff on reception, who even sucked his teeth when I was asking him questions. When this was highlighted to the manager they just said he was an established member of staff who had been with them since the hotel opened. Clearly they need to change some of there staff then. Lee the Tui rep was pointless, happy to sell excursions, though useless at providing solutions. Mined it would be hard to fix this place as it seems too big to work. We stayed in a villa, which was great, and if you get one take washing machine tablets. They are supposed to disconnect the washing machines (we where told at the desk), though due to the incompetence of the management this has not been done, and the machines are fully working. Also the kids club was excellent, with really attentive staff that take the children out on trips around the hotel to keep them occupied. To be honest, this and the good villa where the only positive points to the hotel. But not enough to justify the cost considering the negatives. So all in all, if you like a hotel where most of the guests were football T-shirts, the food is rubbish, and the place is too packed to function, or just too incompetently managed, this place is for you.…
We had a lovely trip to Melia Tortuga for our winter holiday. We returned to the hotel as we had an amazing experience here in 2015 however standards have slipped in terms of service and food quality. The bar staff couldn't be more happy/friendly but the restaurant staff are very dissmisive and act like they don't want to be there. The majority of the menu was not available when dining at the hotel and this applied for the whole ten days we were there. The grounds and rooms are spotless however the maid kept opening our window and let the mosquitos in, we woke up after the 2nd night and we were covered in bites. Unfortunately we will not be returning, the quality of food and service do not reflect the price.
we rent a small villa with three rooms, three bathroom and a pool. it was so nice in the melia we had 4 different restaurant to choose, each in a diffent style with differnt menus the whole location is close to a wide beach. the pools are clean and the Yoga was fantastic. finally we can recommend sal as a very special place there is really nothing to grumble
My best buddy and I spent a week at Melia Tortuga Beach Resort & Spa 11-18 March - we had the best holiday ever - we went without our families, but it's perfectly fine for families too! The resort is spotless and the staff are wonderful - special shout-outs to: Alicia and Wilson (Beach Bar), Daniel and William (Restaurant), Roy Nice Guy - the man to go to if you want a trip! Everyone was so lovely. Paco sells items on the beach - he's a lovely chap - please talk to him and buy what you can from him :o) Our favourite restaurant was The Grille - it's on the beach and has a fab bar too. Great for sundowners. The Italian was amazing too. The main buffet was great - we ate breakfast there, but the food looked good for dinner too. The all inclusive is great - the local alcohol is perfectly fine - we drank mainly Prosecco and Pina Coladas! The beach is amazing - plenty of loungers and parasols. Sea is often red flagged, but exhilarating to watch the big waves! Breezy all the time, so you don't get too hot! Bikini Beach Club is not far away - it's noisy, but fab! We danced until our feet hurt (we are nearly 50 years old!!). Santa Maria is a really short taxi away - it's clean and safe. Good bars too! Definitely worth a visit. The whole holiday had a caribbean vibe without the price tag. Thanks everyone - we hope you're all ok during this very difficult time. We realise it must be so hard for you all and hope that all resumes to normal as soon as possible and your guests can return.…
we were there in march for 10 days but had to return home 3 days early cos of virus. the hotel is 4* with good food and excellent 2 bed 2 bath as standard. this is because they were initially built as timeshare with kitchen and suite. the grill restaurant was great because they cooked the best steak ever! there were 2 other a la cartes as well. MAYSA the waitress was very hard working and deserves a mention. The only thing wrong was that there wasnt enough seating inside and out even though there was plenty of space. the beach was fabulous with wind breakers cos its always windy here. santa maria is worth a visit, 3 euros in a taxi.the TUI rep CLARE was fantastic, very helpful and pleasant.
Seven all inclusive enjoyable days. Accommodation excellent, two bedrooms, two shower rooms one with bath. large lounge area and a kitchen area, we used the fridge! The resort wasn't crowded at all, plenty of pool area and loungers for everyone. Food plentiful, varied and tasty with four on site restaurants to pick from. Spice (main restaurant) never let us down. The Japanese restaurant with Peruvian influences was my overall favourite. Italian and beach Grill were other options. Island is fairly quiet, barren for the most part but the small town of Santa Maria is worth a visit. Good beach walks with lots of photo opportunities. If you want good wine buy it in local stores, the resort house wine is to be avoided although the ladies liked the prosecco equivalent, in fact it was definitely the most popular drink. Spirits were hit and miss with gin and vodka being acceptable. Tours available for those wishing to see more of the Island. We did the half day 4x4 tour which was interesting and worth the money if a bit uncomfortable at times when we went "proper" cross country. Oh! watch out for sand flies when sun goes down if you happen to be down at beach bar. Would we go back? Yes…
Recently spent 7 nights here and we had a fantastic holiday. Location, perfect and very easy to get around the island. The staff and locals were all lovely and very helpful, Wilson & Alicia on the bar and 'Nice Boy Roy' selling local excursions to name a few! We done a full island tour with Linden Tours sold by nice boy Roy, was a great day out and also 1/4 of the price Tui were selling the same tour for! Definitely go with the locals for your excursions! Spoiled for choice for food with the 4 different restaurants on offer, accompanied by a good drinks selection. Treated ourselves to a couple treatments in the spa too which was very good. Best tip would be to bring/buy mosquito repellent, we got bitten to death on first night. They don't like it when it's cold so put the air con on too, but this makes it quite a cold sleep when you've been in the sun all day! Overall we had a great holiday and would love to come back one day!…
Breakfast, lunch and dinner sat by the golden sands (by choice rather than necessity!). Book your dining experiences - don’t be frightened to book more than once! Daily activity programme found on lecturn near late bar - Evening Entertainment minimal with area very limited seating.
We stayed in this beautiful resort for one week (too short). We stayed in a two-bedroom apartment, which was very spacious and also had a terrace. We had an option to opt-out housekeeping service for extra credit which we later on used towards SPA treatment. The hotel has many restaurants to dine in. Food is delicious and limitless ;) The same with drinks. Cocktails, wines, beers, lots to choose from, any time. We very much enjoyed the beach restaurant/bar which offers a beautiful ocean view. The staff is very nice and helpful. Beach is clean, with white sand and turquoise waters. If you planning a trip to see the island, highly recommend booking with locals as they offer significantly cheaper prices then holiday providers. You can find them on the beach in front of the resort. We booked with Roy - The nice guy. Had a great experience of the island tour and horse riding. Santa Maria is the town nearby. You can take a taxi for £3.00. It has a beautiful beach and town center. If you like walking, I would highly recommend taking a walk on the beach which will take you approximately 2h but is worthed. Great holiday, would definitely come back.…
