We stayed at Hotel Sobrado for twelve nights. Currently, given the Covid situation, there were only very few guests, and it is no business as usual. Still, the whole staff was very professional as usual and made sure we had a pleasant stay.
Most places are easily reachable by foot within maximum 15 minutes. To the pier (and the famous Brazilian Kiosk 😉) it is about 10 minutes to walk. Sobrado guests may use the Halos Hotel Beach (10-minute walk), where sun loungers and sun blinds are available. Generally, the Halos beach has a nice view and is also good for swimming/bathing.
The breakfast was fine. Coffee/Cappuccino, juices, eggs (scrambled, fried, Omelet), Croissants, bred, yogurt and fruits were offered.
Our room was of decent size and quite modern. The mattress was a bit soft for us but still ok. We had a nice bathroom (with a rain shower) and a small balcony. One day we had a small leak in the bathroom which was immediately fixed by the staff after we reported it.
In the hotel there is also the restaurant Piri Piri which offers delicious Pizza at reasonable prices. We ate there a few times. They make their Pizza in a real Pizza oven and they also provide good draft beer. Still, we also went into town several times if we were more in the mood for seafood which is obviously delicious and should be tried on Sal.
For us, as we were looking for a bed and breakfast style accommodation to sleep, Hotel Sobrado completely met these requirements. As written before, the staff was always very helpful, professional, and nice. We very much enjoyed our stay there and can clearly recommend the hotel 😊

This is a small hotel but perfectly formed! The staff are very friendly always smiling and happy to help. The rooms are a good size with very comfortable beds. Housekeeping is second to none the rooms are spotless. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff. The pool and the garden are on the small size but never over crowded and the pool is a wellness spa pool rather than a swimming pool. The beach is walking distance and you can use the swimming pool at the sister hotel just down the road.also can use their private part of the beach with loungers.
Breakfast is included and is a good buffet style with enough choices even for a vegan! The on site restaurant is good and staff are friendly.
Only thing that could be improved is tea and coffee making facilities are not available in the room. But staff are always happy to make you one!
All in all a fantastic stay will definitely come back again

I can not give positive opinion about the hotel Sobrado, breakfast is very poor, waiting for omled every day 20 min because the have one Electric Pan.
Rooms are ok very clean, unfortunatelly its very loud from the Street since 7 in the morning. One Iron for the hotel, AC doesnt work on the gym+ very old equipment.

The bed & pillows were the comfiest we’ve had throughout our stay on 4 different islands in Cape Verde. The bathroom was great with a fab rain shower. The room was lovely with patio doors straight into the garden/pool area - pool just right to jump into & cool down. Everything seemed really clean. The buffet breakfast was also one of the best with so much choice & delicious fresh breads. We didn’t try the evening meals as we thought it was expensive, we ate locally (see my review on Bia bar restaurant). Most staff were very friendly.
We would definitely stay here again.

I firstly went in and all of the employers stared at me and some of them laughed because of my disability, I then signed in then took me to my room, I shut my door and he laughed and called me a cripple to another employer, I could hear through the door. The next day I got pushed in the pool and immediately left, luckily my career was the to help me or I could have died. Thanks a lot, Terrible place do not go!

Can't speak highly enough of staff at this hotel. All very friendly and helpful.
The hotel itself is kept spotlessly clean.
Food very good.
Room comfortable.
Gym was adequate for me, although the pool was tiny.
The hotel is within 5 minutes walking distance from Santa Maria town centre and 10 minutes from the beach
Overall, excellent value for money!

We had a very nice and big room with walk-in rain shower. The room was big and everything looks new.
The staff is friendly en honest. The location is good since it s only a 5 minute walk to the centre.
We didn t like the view from our street view room but offcourse this is not the hotels fault. It s an ugly open field

The breakfast buffet is good with many possibilities so you don't have to eat the same every morning.
I would recommend this hotel.

I should have known we would have issues when my emails prior to arrival were ignored. On arrival the “suite” I had paid for had been double booked so we were given an alternative which turned out to be the most basic room in the hotel. After three days of complaining I managed to get the difference between the rooms refunded without explanation or apology. Sadly this was just the start of the horrendous stay.
Staff are pleasant enough but I wouldn’t call them friendly. The barman definitely requires a personality transplant, or at least a lesson in smiling and acknowledgment of guests would be a start. The bar area is small and forms part of reception. Drinks are reasonably priced. Breakfast is basic and repetitive but adequate. We ate at the main restaurant for dinner twice. The salad selection was good but all the hot food was stone cold. They simply do not have the facilities to keep food hot so should not be serving it. When I complained the chef just shouted and went back to the bar, as he did frequently throughout service, to have more shots. There was a complete lack of management within the whole hotel but especially the restaurant. They had run out of basic condiments which is unacceptable when there is a supermarket three minutes walk away. It is also not a buffet as such. You are served by someone and the choices are minimal. The second restaurant called Piri Piri serves pizzas etc which was ok and the young chef there was very good. The waiter, however, was the barman so all a bit miserable really. Such a shame that most of our evenings enjoying a peaceful drink were spoilt by waitresses arguing with each other.
The hotel is small with a garden. The “pool” is tiny so more of a plunge pool. The beach is a good 10 mins walk away over uneven surfaces and not one for pleasant views. Lots of half built buildings which makes the area more of a bomb site. Sobrado guests can use the facilities of their sister hotel including the private beach which was really useful with plenty of sun loungers.
Back to the room. The beds were probably the most comfortable I have slept in at a hotel which was great, but you guessed it, that’s where it ended. The room was clean when we arrived but cleaning services throughout our stay were inadequate. Bins were not always emptied, dirty glasses not removed, shower gels not replenished and towels were not clean looking. The TV had one level which was 100 so we couldn’t watch it , which is fine but if facilitates are advertised they should be in working order. On the third night my son showered and half way through the water turned brown. The water from the toilet, sink, shower and bidet were all brown. We had to use another room’s facilities. The following day my son became unwell followed by me the next day. The a/c then failed so we had to use the fan which appeared to have aggravated a nest of some sort as the room became infested with flying bugs, hundreds of them. The night porter allowed us to use another room for the night but only after he saw the bugs and seemed pretty shocked. This happened again two days later forcing us to checkout and find alternative accommodation.
What could be a lovely hotel is ruined by poor management with very little, if any experience. What really annoyed me was the fact nobody was interested as to why we were checking out early.
On returning home I tried to get a refund for the nights I had paid for but had to check out. They have since insisted ( via the booking company) that they did refund me for the nights. You didn’t, you refunded the difference between the suite and the room we ended up in and since you continue to ignore my emails you simply clarify my point of extremely poor management.

We had a great stay at the Sobrado. We wanted a hotel that was away from the crowds, music, nightclubs, etc. and this one fit the bill. It is located about 5min walk from the beach and the main drag of tourist shops and restaurants, so still very close. However we found it to be very quiet and peaceful. There is a Shell petrol station and shop only 200m away where you can pick up snacks and drinks.

One of the best things about this hotel is that it is very modern, less than a year old, so everything is new and in good condition. The rooms are very clean, bright, and comfortable, and ours had a nice little balcony with some sun loungers. The free Wifi worked very well and the TV had a lot of good English language programming. We really liked the fact that there were plenty of power points as well as USB recharging ports above the bedside tables – very easy for recharging devices. The shower was good but the hot water is somewhat limited, with each room having its own small electric water heater. We also had a fridge which was very nice for keeping our drinks cold. There are no views at all to speak of, as it is set in a residential area.

The reception staff were all very friendly and helpful and spoke good English. The breakfast buffet was very good, one of the best ones we experienced in Cape Verde, with a large range of hot and cold breakfast foods. We also tried some pizzas one night at the Piri-Piri restaurant (the hotel restaurant) which were very good. There is a small fitness room with some very basic equipment and also a very small pool area which really isn’t all that great. The outdoor pool area really needs some landscaping, shady areas, bigger pool, etc.- so much unrealized potential there!

Overall we had a fantastic stay here and would definitely recommend it to others looking to get away from the noise and hustle of the beach area.
