Currently still here, leaving tomorrow. Firstly asked for a room close to reception as with a 5 year old was worried bout the long walk from one end to reception and buffet. Got allocated room 1114 which couldn’t be any further away from reception! Overall room is nice and spacious but we were getting eaten alive in there by mosquitoes and had no idea how until we realised maids were leaving the windows open behind the blinds so they were getting in regardless of how careful we were Buffet - boring, repetitive, very limited choice for children. My 5yo survived on chips and apples the entire holiday. However the flies on the food make it all unappetising. We’re not talking a few, literally hundreds! The buffet has all the doors open just welcoming all the flies in and they swarm all over the food. It’s such an easy fix as well, shut the doors and turn up the air con! Both my and my son have been struck with the stomach bug on different days. Il tarezza - same very limited menu day is day out. Takes ages to get served at lunch time. First time we went in there we were just expected to know how it works, expected us to be able to click a QR code for the menu but their WiFi barely works in there! After about 45 minutes of waiting for someone to speak to us we walked out. Tried it again and my Partner had spaghetti with a tomato sauce and said it tasted like something out of a tin. However they do make a good pizza and have made mine without the tomato sauce every time. The grill - biggest let down of the lot! On their website they sell this as open for breakfast, snacks, lunch with buffet or al a carte then al a carte for tea. Well it’s been open for breakfast offering fly infested buffet then is closed until tea. The main reason I chose this hotel was the good choice of eateries for lunch and it didn’t happen. We ate tea there once and really wasn’t impressed. Really do not feel like I’m getting what I paid for here. Pools - we only used the pirate ship and the quiet pool. Pirate ship was good until my son banged his chin on it leaving him needing 3 stitches! We were then charged €80 for medical attention for an accident that happened due to the quality of the hotel equipment! The quality of the quiet pool also leaves a lot to be desired, tiles peeling off into the water and it’s the guests that are going around fishing them out so there’s not another accident!!! Bars - well if you expect a fully stocked bar think again. We mainly used the fogo bar at the quiet pool and had to complain to the rep about lack of drinks being available on a number of occasions. Twice they had literally nothing, not even water! We tried the Sal bar when there was nothing left at the fogo bar to find they had nothing either Mosquitos are horrendous and again the hotel do nothing to help the situation. We have stayed in Meliá hotels in the Caribbean and see them fumigating the greenery to kill them on a daily basis, but here you are just left to deal with them yourself Would I choose this hotel again? Absolutely not. We have made the best out of a run down, uncared for hotel.

Leaving today after two weeks at the resort. Is it all bad ? Maybe if you have spent some money on the holiday! Stayed in block 9 second floor Room 9077 4 star it is NOT! Maybe 2 at a push ?? Positives : Endless sun bed availability. Room is spacious The Lion King Show The Beach Hand sanitizer The Dubliner in Santa Maria ( pub serves food which is next level) Cons: Flies .. everywhere .. all over your food that your about to eat! Dirty pool areas creating flies Pool areas having loose sides and tiles missing Constant running out of drinks including water .. Yerp WATER!!! Food repetitive Failure to provide substantial diet for children unless they like fries and pasta everyday Unlimited supply of tinned hotdogs but the bread is far to hard to make an actual edible hotdog roll Uncooked verging on raw food Play Guess what you have ordered in the a la carte restaurants ( that’s if you manage to get a booking) Have I mentioned the flies ?? Your evening meal is also served up as breakfast if that makes choosing easier for you ? And that’s if you get a seat ? Try not to dive into the pool that goes Green on a regular basis .. ( Melia pool) Try not to see the scum on the top of the pool areas that after two weeks iv not seen be cleaned or tested once. Try not to cut your feet on the loose tiles in the swimming pools Bedding not changed for 14 nights Pillows taken from room randomly by the maids No room towels for 4 days Did I mention the flies ?? Air on in restaurants but doors are left open Miserable staff Understaffed Sickness and Diarrhoea quite frequent in guests Evening entertainment poor List is endless but Iv sat to still and I’m now a walking fly hut!

I have never experienced a holiday like this, the worst holiday and hotel I've ever had, and unfortunately im still here. We asked to move hotels on our second day but Tui wanted £700 to do so which i dont have. It is dirty with flies everywhere and I don't mean a few, there are literally hundreds. Tables are cleaned with a dirty cloth with no antibacterial spray so just spread germs from 1 table to the next. The food is disgusting, raw chicken cross contamination from cooked to raw meats. Same things night after night and if it doesn't get eaten you get it for breakfast. The bars around the pools are always running out of drinks or the fizzy drinks are flat. Just been to one of the so called Al a carte restaurants and we have walked out. I had nachos with guacamole to start and they were cold , chewy nachos and to top it off had baked beans on them. The potato in the potato salad were hard and raw. Then came the main 🤣 3 of us ordered cheese burger, we looked at it and walked out. Definitely not beef, looked raw and I wouldn't feed it to my dog. We are all back in the room eating chocolate brought from the local supermarket. Going into santa maria again tomorrow to eat so we can all have a decent meal. This hotel is 2 star at best Definitely not 5 star as advertised. If you want to stay here good luck, if you have already booked herd I would seriously look to change hotels before you come.

Overall It was good we spend 11days/10nights in Sol Dunas Let me first start with the positive things , The kids/baby club was amazing , Ronice and Antonietta were there daily and they took such good care of the kids and the kids really liked them and that was the most important thing for us !!!! The kids wanted to go back day by day ! bless their hearts because they do it with such a big passion !!!! The room was big we had a nice kitchen the bathroom was also very nice and everyday the ladies cleaned the room … The mattress was covered in mold on the sides but with the humidity here it’s normal but you should protect the beds more because we had a couple of bites because of bedbugs … The food in Spices was overall good but some days it was bad and we good sick of it … it also has to do with the water in Cape Verde , the hotel can’t do anything about it , every day it was the same menu except for some things like fish and chicken and turkey . The activities in Sol Dunas was good , everyday there was something to do and the people who organized it were always happy motivated and friendly !! And also a special thank you for Kelly who mostly acts on the kids disco every evening !! She’s funny and has overal a great heart and patience for the kids

Stayed at the Sol Dunas for a week, and to be honest I've stayed in a lot of all inclusive hotels around the world in my time and this is by far the worst one I've ever been to. My daughter and I become very ill during our stay, diarrhoea and agonising stomach cramps - we had to have medical treatment on site from the hotel doctor which was quite distressing, even now my daughter is still struggling...my guess and looking at other recent reviews is it's on the terrible diabolical food the hotel offers, it was usually cold and If it wasn't cold it was undercooked or had flies swarming on everything - something none of the catering staff seemed too bothered about. Please avoid if you don't want to get ill during your stay, the few positives such as a spacious room, good choice of pool areas & a nice beach do not override the fact that we paid thousands and thousands of pounds to come here to be basically food poisoned. TUI should also be held accountable alongside this hotel - food safety is clearly an ongoing major issue here and it needs sorting ASAP.

Don’t usually do reviews but this place is horrendous. Struggling to find a single positive after a week there. Food is disgusting in the main restaurant, nothing properly hot, flies on everything, really rank, only thing edible were the chips and half the time there were none, we both had a dodgy tummy for 3 days. Food at the Italian was slightly better but a very long wait, by the time you got served for lunch it was dinner time. Pools were green, staff were rude and unhelpful. Room was ok but very basic, loads of plates and glasses stacked up covered in flies outside on the floor by the stairs. Bar at the very end was ok, great guy there who served his take on a mojito which was about the only positive. Avoid this hotel unless poor food, diarrhoea, poor service and rude staff are your thing.

I'm not one to normally complain and have always posted fair reviews praising what is good and being constructive when not. This place is in a different category all together. Having read recent reviews I can only agree with most of what has already been said, so won't repeat. Following its closure due to Covid, it is obviously struggling to get the facilities back to what they used to be, judging by past positive reviews. We were a family of 7 comprising grandparents, parents and 3 children. We were all ill during our 14 days with one end or the other or both, as in mine and my daughter's case. She spent long periods on at least 7 days queing to report our illnesses to TUI rep. We managed only 3 complete family dinners together. 1 at beginning and 2 at end. Much time spent in our apartments either being ill or caring for sick children. After 7 days of 💩. I sought the help of the on site doctor, who prescribed antibiotics for me and my husband. Hand sanitising at the entrance was voluntary and I complained about this each time we went in and to the hotel reception, in person and via WhatsApp. It was enforced for 2 days while hotel was being inspected and then dropped. Never been anywhere like it. One member of staff's response was that all guests are requested to sanitise upon arrival. True rep did point this out, but it is not encouraged. We sanitised going in and leaving, and still got ill. We avoided Spices whenever possible, choosing to dine at either Terrazzo or the Grille, but then it's repetitive and boring. Breakfast at the Grille was a fight with the flies, but at least everything at the buffet was covered, unlike in Spices. Kids facilities are really good and the staff at the kids club were spot on. They did their best with meagre resources and our 2 grandchildren enjoyed going. It was for the children that we booked this resort and they enjoyed it. Many of the staff we found to be lovely and were coping the best they could with disgruntled guests. Special shout out to Elton at the quiet pool, Sophia in Terrazzo and Grille and Sandra in Spices who took our yelling infant grandson for a walk so we could eat our dinner.

Our second visit to the hotel, our first was in 2019, the entertainment staff are fabulous and especially the kids club staff who made our daughters holiday feel so special. The Pirate Day and afternoon parties were great and they put so much effort in, coupled with indoor crafts to keep the little ones out of the sun for a little bit, my daughter has some lovely bracelets and salt bottles to take home as a souvenir she made at kids club! Our older boy also enjoyed water polo, water carpet and darts and there is something for everyone in the day, from water slides to Ping Pong and tennis if you can face it in the heat. Big shout out to Kelly and Ivan from the entertainment staff! Food is good for an all inclusive, with a wide selection of pasta, fish, meat, potatoes and vegetables, our children eat most things so didn’t have trouble finding something they like, but if you expect chicken nuggets and burgers you will be disappointed. We enjoyed breakfast, lunch and snacks at the Italian, it is a shame that the Grille is no longer open also for snacks in the day as we enjoyed the variety it gave you for a 2 week holiday. We like the fact that it’s 2 hotels as it gives you a walk to the beach through a lovely promenade with bars and shops, and so didn’t feel like you were in the same place everyday, and can use the variety of pools and bars, with some exceptions, if it bothers you that you can’t use all bars and restaurants then maybe not the place for you. As we have 2 children we wouldn’t have used the adult only areas and you can pay if you really want to eat in the different restaurants. There were some supply issues with water and beer during our stay, but rectified within a couple of hours. There does seem to be less staff than 3 years ago, but suppose that’s the same as the rest of the world. Some things have changed and not for the better, no self serve ice cream in the Sal bar, less shows and no Inflatable castle in the pool, but considering they have had no income through Covid are doing well to keep all the entertainment and service to a reasonable standard and you can get ice cream from the Italian in the day. The pool needs a little maintenance and a few areas cleaning up to get to a 4/5 star hotel but nothing major. The Lion King show is amazing, and the other shows entertaining, but again missed the We Will Rock You and Mamma Mia shows they put on 3 years ago. Overall a great holiday, never easy when you go back to the same place but apart from a few small tweaks needed it didn’t disappoint, we knew to expect flies and mosquitos so came prepared!

All 4 of us poorly with stomach bug at various stages. Same issues as other reviews posted during the last week so I won’t bore you. The only way I could travel home was to fast and just drink water 24 hours before flight. Arrived home the early hours of Monday morning and have had to phone in sick until today. Loved Sal and the locals but would never ever return to Sol Dunas. Shame as it was meant to be a 5 star stay to celebrate my 50th Birthday.
