Sol Dunas and Melia Dunas share the same site and facilities. Now all inclusive. We had three double rooms in the Sol Dunas side. We had 3 large rooms that were obviously for self catering at one time so plenty of room. First impression was good. Then we found the beds were 'roll together', well past there use by date and you had to cling to the edges to stop yourself rolling into the middle. Pillows of tiny bits of foam. Not what one expects in a 5* hotel. Spices/Mosaics buffet was the main restaurant. Often what should have been hot food was actually cold, like fresh dish of chips straight from the kitchen were cold. Quality of the food left a bit to desired too. Steak in the speciality restaurant was tough. Not acceptable. On the third day of our stay 3 of our family fell ill with gastro enteritis followed by a 4th 2 days later. Uncontrollable liquid etc coming out of both ends of people at the same time, one bathroom. It was everywhere. Obviously told the hotel and asked for the rooms to be deep cleaned. We were told to stay in our rooms for 48 hours. The deep clean was nothing more than a normal clean after which we still found vomit on the walls. Won't be going back there or any other Sol/Melia hotel.…

This resort is exceptional! Is it 5 stars by everybody's standard? No - I would say it is not - but it is certainly a 4 star, and a very good one at that. We were pre-warned of a sickness bug that has been doing the rounds on the island by our rep, and unlike some of the previous 'customers' who have left negative reviews - we took precautions, like - washing our hands.. and me, my wife and 2 young daughters were all absolutely fine. Unfortunately when your on an island that has the population of andover, and over half of that population is working in some way down the chain to the resorts on the island, things are going to spread. But people who have paid money for a holiday - and I get it - they don't want to be ill on their holiday have to accept that it is a SMALL ISOLATED ISLAND, with very little resources, and you should ALWAYS pack accordingly - I would of thought it was pretty common sense to pack some anti-poo tablets when going to what is a developing country. The people moaning about bed bugs bites when they clearly have mosquito bites need to wind their necks in as well. I am just annoyed, because the reviews I read on here made my wife apprehensive about coming, when all of it was false or people were not prepared! It was not the resorts fault that there is a sickness bug! You going to blame them for covid now too?? I could not find fault with the hotel except for the lack of coffee in the rooms, that was our only fault - we booked a 2 bedroom apartment (8001) and it was phenomenal - it was large (on par with our own flat) well appointed, and close to the activities that we wanted to be near by - for example the kids pool with the pirate ship in. The food we had was fantastic - we mostly eat in Spices - people prior to us moaning about a lack of variety, what a load of tosh - we had so much variety in that one place that it was where we had 80% of the food we ate on the island!! The bars can be a little slow at times - yes - but I think that's because they spend all their time with the cocktail shakers when its really not needed - just whack some vodka and cola in a glass with some ice - your on holiday! overall, we loved it and will be booking again next year one thing to note for you UK lot who (like me) thought you could take the queens notes with you and change on the island - don't bother. The hotel won't do it fo you unless you want to swap for the local currency - but then won't swap back stating 'you need to do it at the airport on the way out' The local banks in Santa Maria all say they are open 8am to 3pm - but I don't know what clock they actually adhere those hours to, as none of them were ever open. And low & behold - the airport bank was closed on arrival too - so just be careful! Also - Euro's - don't do what I did with them either, don't have several 50's and expect to be able to pay for goods with them! Literally nobody has change, so you get stuck in the town trying to find a taxi that has change for a 50 euro note! just saying! but yeah, people are friendly, hotel was great - ENTERTAINMENT TEAM WERE AMAZING - Especially their Lion King show!…

Hotel is amazing, spotlessly clean and wonderful staff. The range of food in the buffet is excellent (could be hotter) and the al a carte restaurants are fabulous, especially Ranchos. Plenty of bars and the beach is lovely. Looking forward to returning.

I visited with my son and we had a great time. As the restaurants on the Sol Dunas side were closed we could use the a la cart restaurants on the Melia Dunas side which was a nice bonus. The beach is beautiful although the water was a bit choppy so we went to Santa Maria for our sea swimming. The staff were great Leonardo and Stephan were very helpful recommending restaurants and when we saw them when we were out partying, they looked after my son and showed him a great time which allowed me to go back to the hotel and get some rest while the younger ones enjoyed, this was way beyond their call of duty! The food in Spices was ok, you could always make a meal but nothing special. One of the waiters Alberto was especially good, always making sure our coffees and juices were topped up with a smile. Our favourite bar was the beach bar and all the staff there were friendly, with Hamilton getting the mojitos and rum and cokes flowing nicely. We stayed in room 7036 which had a nice view over the pool and the distant hills. The grounds were beautiful and I could go on and on but I think you get the drift, great time, lovely place and fantastic staff. Looking forward to coming back!…

From our arrival everyone at the hotel could not have been more helpful. All the staff went over and above to ensure we had a great holiday. The rooms were spotless, daily fresh towels and bedding. Spices restaurant was amazing, so much choice and high quality food available to cater for all tastes. Grounds, pools and bars all easily accessible. wonderful holiday! Stayed here with my friend for a week in February 2023. I would highly recommend visiting Bar Marley which is set right on the beach front...it was a highlight of our holiday. It has a lovely chilled atmosphere, the cocktails are amazing and it's the perfect spot to kick back and relax. It's a great tribute to Bob Marley and Reggae music. The beach bar staff were really welcoming especially Jay who was really professional, attentive to all the customers and made sure we were all enjoying ourselves. I can't wait to go back next year!

This is a nice hotel , nothing special but worth the price we paid. I will section this as positives and negatives Positives Everywhere very clean, hotel room especially. Bed very comfortable, and good quality sheets and bedding Food in spice restaurant ok, some evening s really nice, others not so good , fresh fruit always available, and a nice selection. The grill restaurant at lunch time is a must! Barbaqued selection of meats perfectly cooked, with a selection of salads, and a fantastic hot sauce! Puddings were nice here as well Gin and tonics the best I've ever had, they are very generous with the gin Pool area's nice, plenty of sun beds The grounds are beautiful, with selections of trees and bushes Negatives The cava was very poor quality, and almost undrinkable The selection of fruit juice at breakfast awful, tastes like dish water We had an upgraded room, to a two bedroom two bathroom apartment It was like a prison cell, clean, but nothing in it apart from two old sofas and the beds very few plug sockets, and all in inconvenient places The blinds were broken, and I had to tie them up with plastic bags Bar staff at the pool, never smiled, and gave the impression that they had far more important things to do than serve you Bar staff at night excellent. That's it I think, just to add we had no tummy problems, and we had ice in our drinks, and ate loads of salads I got bit by mossies but my fault, didn't use any protection (idiot) Would I come here again, yes I liked it If you have any questions, I will try to answer them.…

Back home after a wonderful week at this beautiful resort. Nothing was too much trouble for the lovely staff. The room was perfect. All the restaurants had lovely food , something there for everyone. We ate in the grille and Italian.I enjoyed my food but my partner’s spaghetti wasn’t very nice . We will be returning next year for some winter sun .
