The Meliá Llana Beach Resort & Spa garners appreciation for its pristine and spacious accommodations, located in a spot that's both praised for its beauty and noted for its distance from town. While the resort's entertainment ranges from lively music to occasional overly loud events, guests are divided on the experiences in rooms, citing both size and maintenance concerns. The dedicated staff receives kudos for their service, despite some operational hiccups. However, travelers are critical of the value proposition, questioning the worth of additional charges for exclusive 'Level' perks.

Tui has this as a 5* but I would rate it as 3 and a half to 4*. Why the down grade? The resort is looking a little tired and the Tui app needs an immediate overhaul as maps given of the complex are woeful and the app was unhelpful. The island is still developing their infrastructure so though you have wifi in all the rooms, it is slow. It is faster in the Front Lounge Bar near the in house shops and front of house.
But, do not let slow wifi, lack of flat roads or rude foreigners, turn you off. Melia Llana front of house, Spa and Resort, is a light filled, airy marble and rock, chic looking hotel which greets you with a cold drink ( non alcoholic or water on request). You can choose to pay an extra 50 Euro (per person per day) to become Level Members which gives you a room upgrade to a suit, free access to all restaurants, bar, private pool, Bar Marley, the Bikini club and more. At first, it does not look as if you get that much extra but then it does work out for those special-maybe-only once-in-a-lifetime moments. The rooms are large with either a swim lane, garden or balcony or a sea view. Beds are pretty firm but you can request a mattress topper at no extra cost. All rooms come with a fridge with water, soft drinks and or local beer once again at no extra cost. The fridge is refilled every other day and trust me, you will drink them as you need to stay well hydrated.
Although it is predominantly All Inclusive, things like the shops, hairdressers, laundry service and the YHI Spa are extra. Please don't be rude if the electricity goes off or the water runs out, Sal uses the sea for desalinating the water used in bathrooms and to flush. They also have power cuts but the staff all work together to ensure that you are well looked after. Anything that you think that you need ask them. They cannot do enough for you it seems.
I have to mention the young ladies at Annatoly Hair and Beauty. Maria, Roseama, and Leida, made my stay memorable. They work well together and are so funny. I had my hair (x2) and nails done and each time learnt a few more Portuguese words or rather I butchered their beautiful language! The prices works out to be on a par with what we pay here in the UK.
The moto for Cape Verde is "No Stress" and my husband and I felt stress free all through our holiday until we set down in cold and wet Birmingham where we met with misery and negativity!
Remember to travel with remote chargers as when you are not in your room, the electric goes off when you remove your door key. A phone is a must as most menus have a code to upload. This is not helpful however as you need to translate most of it and some times this does not translate well!!!
If you get a chance visit Melia Llana on Cape Verde and say hola to the staff. They will help you to relax and let it all go!

All in all it was a fantastic stay at the Melia Llana in the Level area. I had booked individually (no package tour).

In June it is 24-29 degrees centigrade all day on Sal. The humidity is not low. This is a dream for a summer vacation. The hotel is great, maybe not quite five stars on a European scale, but certainly four stars plus.

First, because some reviews say otherwise: There is decaffeinated coffee in some bars. There is an extendable clothesline in the bathroom and shower, or you can dry your clothes on the balcony. Bottled water is available in the rooms and in the ground floor lounge, but not in the bars (only water in cups). The hotel now has a good range of vegetarian and some vegan options. Unfortunately, noise can be an issue when choosing a room. The bikini bar has reopened, so music can be heard loudly and all night in certain areas from Friday to Sunday. In the hotel, for example, you can hear the music events in the evenings, depending on the room, even when the door is closed.

Strengths of the hotel:

For us, the Level area was clearly worth it, despite the noticeable surcharge. I would recommend it. A big advantage is the level reception as a central contact point. The ladies and gentlemen literally go out of their way for guests. Any question can be clarified in person or via WhatsApp. The level of commitment is very high. I would particularly like to mention Viviane from the Level team, stunning work. This is an excellence service I have only experienced in Asia. For my birthday, the hotel management sent me a card with sweets and cava - very nice. It was also superb that we got a better room to start with, a duplex that was huge. Level guests also have an espresso machine in the room. It was excellent in the morning; I wouldn't want to miss it.

The food is great. Except for fish, everything is imported, but it's not bad. The fish is particularly good. In the Level area you can eat in nine specialty restaurants in the Llana and the other two Melià hotels, as well as the TUI Blue. It's not Michelin-starred cuisine, but it's good food, much better than a buffet. We particularly liked the Culinarium at TUI Blue. The Nami put up a great teppanyaki show, the food was good, but not outstanding. Breakfast at Casa Nostra for Level guests had a wonderful private atmosphere, you sat with a great view and very attentive service. Twice in the evening we went to Mosaico, the standard buffet restaurant on the Llana. The food is not quite as good, sometimes overcooked, but the choice is very large with theme nights. The service here was attentive, which we had not expected from the large number of guests, for example with drinks or clearing up. You can also eat very well in Santa Maria, 15 minutes away by taxi, for example at Aqua d'Odjo (Restaurant Farolim) on the waterfront or at Americos in the city centre. It is better to take a taxi as the hotel bus into town is besieged by hawkers.

The public beach is great, the separated seawater there is actually pool-like, but without service. We almost always used the pool at the Level lounge. Lots of sunbeds, attentive service (they also bring food from other restaurants on request, such as the snack bar Pura Vida), warm water, not crowded. However, June is still low season. Towards autumn it gets much more crowded.

At lunchtime I usually had a bite to eat at the snack bar at Pura Vida. There are plenty of vegetarian options.

A half-hour massage is included for level guests and takes place in the huts at the spa. The masseurs are very good. I also booked an intensive sports massage, which was good. The prices are acceptable, around 70-90 euros per hour. It is much cheaper in Santa Maria, where however the surroundings are not so pleasant.

I have always found the service friendly. Of course, there are differences. The Level team was especially friendly. But I don't think you should expect too much. Working in the hotel is hard work and you can't expect to know every guest personally or to greet them all the time. I think some reviews may be expecting too much. I found it to be a friendly environment.

We did a tour of the island (one day) with Sal Experience (Reis Transportes). Very good, also to learn about the social consequences of tourism. Sal is a very dry desert island. The hotels use water, but provide jobs – life gets better. There is an awareness of how to save water. The money is also used to finance social programmes to improve poor settlements. There is also a lot to see on such a tour, such as the blue eye (odjo azul) or the salt flats, a salt lake similar to the Dead Sea. But it is also clear that there is less to see on this small island than in cities or on larger islands. But it's great for a beach holiday.

The island's airport is good. I booked an airport transfer with Sal Experience (Reis Transportes). It's great too, especially if you have a lot of luggage. Big cars, bigger than a normal taxi, friendly drivers.

Weaknesses of the hotel:

The hotel has no glaring weaknesses. Nevertheless, a few points are to mention.

Interestingly, we stayed in a TUI Blue room, rented by the Llana, so to speak. Llana works very closely with TUI. Of course, we can't say exactly what agreements there are.

The television programme is now rather restricted. A lot of international and foreign channels have probably been cancelled during Corona. If you like to watch football in Portuguese….

Wi-Fi in the room is only available for three devices. That's not much these days, especially if there are several people in the room. Here, the hotel´s IT should have gone to at least five devices.

We had a few technical problems in the room. The air conditioning didn't work well at first, but the Level team, who sent technicians immediately, solved it well. A fridge was broken, it was set way too cold, bottles froze and broke. Unfortunately, the fridge could not be fixed.

We found some problems with everyday objects surprising. It sometimes took two or three days to get new Nescafé powder, tea powder or coffee pads, even after the level team had intervened. On the other hand, the cleaning of the rooms is very good, and we had plenty of towels and water.

The equipment in the gym is a bit old. But the lady supervisor there is amazingly motivating. Because of the humidity and heat, it would be good if the gym had air conditioning.

Sometimes there are problems with credit card payments. This has happened before on the whole island and is not a specific problem of the hotel. However, this did not cause any lasting problems.

The only major issue was the noise. We were above the night bar, which had an evening entertainment, usually from 8pm to 11pm. We could clearly hear the music even with the balcony door closed. Soundproof doors would make a lot of sense here. If we were to book again, it would be very important for us to get a quieter room. This should also be the case at the resort.

My second visit in Sal Island, Melia Llana Hotel and I believe I am in ongoing love with the hotel and the Ponta Preta Beach.
The area is beautiful and spotless if you were in the paradise. Wonderful beach in front of the hotel with the Bikini Beach BAr and Bar Marley Bar. You can walk kilometer long on the sandy beach without disturbing you anybody.
The hotel itself is world-class, it was a best in class service for me from booking/arrival until leaving the place. The area is very clean nicely maintained, the room is huge, nicely decorated
I additionally paid for the VIP Guru that gives you access to the Level service in the hotel area, additionally, free access and consumption up to EUR 50 (daily) to the Bikini Beach/Bar Marley Beach. You get the Level room close to the beach that includes a Delta coffee machine with free capsules as well.
You are entitled for a free massage and you can try all restaurants of the three Melia resorts during your stay (the buffet restaurant is included as well.)
During my stay I visited the newly opened Signora Sassy restaurant, the Bikini Beach restaurant, Nami, Casa Nostra and Culinarium, additionally, I went for the Bikini sundy bruch that is included as well. All the restaurants gave me a fantastic experience, amazing service everywhere with very friensly staff and nice food.
I would like to highlight the separate Level bar where Level/VIP Guru guests can enjoy a separate pool area, all-day snacks and refreshments and a bar. If you want to order something from the neighbouring Pura Vida bar, it is delivered to you to the Level bar as well.
Some important words about the staff since I believe they are making this place excellent and outstanding.
The dedicated Level Team make every effort to have a fantastic holiday, They are always there for you (from 9 am-11pm) if need anything. Very friendly, helpful and customer obsessed guys who, I can say, became my friend during the visit:
Sidney, Elisete, Viviane and Evelise thank you for making my holiday like if I had been in the paradise. You are making a great job. All of your effort is appreciated from my heart.
Patricia and her Team waiting for you in the Level breakfast, offering a vide selection of options (from egg to yoghurt creation) and make sure you start a great day.
Jossiene, Danilson and Danielson are taking care of you in the Level bar during the day and make all your wish come true (coffee, cocktails, snacks). They are such a great team with passion and ongoing smile and nice personality.
Lusi from the Bar Azul are master of the cocktails and prepares the best gin+tonic on the island. :)
I would like to mention Deise from the Nami restaurant and Zuleika from the Culinarium restaurant, they made a fantastic and unforgettanable service.

I can not wait to return to this hotel and recommend you if you are looking for a relaxing holiday in a cool place with fantastic and helpful staff.

I and a friend occupied a standard room at this hotel, from whose stay we just returned. We occupied a standard room (not level) that had everything we could need (minibar that was stocked every two days, hairdryer, safe, bathrobe and a nice terrace with side views of the sea and the Bikini Beach Club). As the hotel does not have many rooms, we were in front of the buffet dining room and close to reception, the pool area and the beach. Its occupancy level was not very high despite the dates, so it was possible to choose a hammock or even a rotating Balinese bed in the pools. On the beach almost all the hammocks with umbrellas were free (the only thing was that that area was a little far from the bars). As is normal in this type of hotel, it has towel service. The beach is very wide and both to the left and to the right the sandy area is almost deserted (in addition, it is a nesting area and time for the loggerhead sea turtle). The buffet is quite acceptable, there is also a snack bar (Pura Vida) which was a discovery due to the quality of the food and its longer hours. What we liked least was the absence of nighttime entertainment; It is an adults-only hotel but we did not believe that this was synonymous with zero movement and chillout music. The hotel is located in Ponta Preta, a short distance from the city of Santa María; There is a free Meliá shuttle service that goes to Santa María and leaves at 11 in the morning and returns at 4 in the afternoon; It is also possible to take a taxi for about 4 or 5 euros and they are always available outside the hotel. Throughout the hotel facilities there are cats that you can find under your table in the dining room, lying on the hammocks or anywhere else. On the day of departure you have to leave the room at 12 or face a relatively high charge, but they have a courtesy room with a shower. There are a couple of shops (at the Meliá next door there are more that you can go to) and next to reception there is an ATM. It has a spa, where at least the jacuzzi is free to use (although no one seemed to know that detail). The treatment by all employees was always correct. I would return without problem.

Unfortunately, the management of this hotel chain has ceased to ensure the satisfaction of its customers and focuses purely on profitability. A Meliá hotel focused largely on adult Western audiences, cannot afford the low quality of its products and customer service. Specifically, not having old rum in 5 days (in stays of 7), trying to charge for a J&B or Johnnie Walker red label when you have paid an all inclusive and it is the easiest thing that is dispatched (I do not intend black label) but if I offer Chanceler Whisky I will not define it... and also if protests offer you white horse, I think this was drunk by my grandfather.
Likewise, when a client shows his dissatisfaction, he must be served in time and form. I tried to speak to the manager of this hotel three times and only managed to speak with "a third sword", which generates even more dissatisfaction and inattention.
Finally this hotel deserves no more than 4 stars and being very benevolent. Mr. Meliá, it is not a problem to be on an island as they justify, it is to try to obtain an added benefit by standard products and not to serve their customers in time and form

14 days and 2 times at this lovely place. The staff are all so sweet and smiling, and the food is nice, remember to visit the two restaurants you can visit once each. The room is delicious, clean and with large delicious bath towels, bathrobes and a minibar that is filled every 2 days, included in the price. We'll be back next year.

We went to MELIÁ LLANA in Sal for one week over Christmas in December 2024. I booked direct which I would definitely suggest. This allows you to book the room you want. We went for a 'Level Swim Up room' which was perfect.
The hotel is a little confusing. There is a standard all inclusive which includes a basic room and all inclusive use of the buffet restaurant and pool bars.
You can the upgrade to The Level which include nicer rooms, a separate 'Level only' bar and pool with snacks throughout the day and a seperate more a la carte style breakfast.
You can then upgrade again to the VIP stay which we did. This was an extra 50 euros per person per night and included use of restaurants at other hotels and bars at other hotels, all included in the price. You also received 50 euros credit per person per day at Bikini beach bar.
The room was nice and comfortable. The cleaners were great and our mini bar topped up daily. The swim up room was amazing- we didn't;t use the other pools.
Service is very slow but I think maybe just the Cape Verde way. The 'pool bars' are essentially just stools in the water- you have to get out of the pool to actually get served.
Gym was nice, toilets always clean and it never felt over-crowded anywhere.
I think the level/ VIP etc is quite confusing and lots of people were annoyed they had paid for 'all inclusive' when actually you had to upgrade to make use of it all. We did have some issues with some of the VIP affiliated bars and restaurants but the ones in the actual hotel were great. Casa Nostra pizza was amazing in the hotel!!
This hotel has won a Tui award for looking after stray animals. There are five stray cats at the hotel which have been neutered/ flea treated and are fed. This was so nice to see and we loved playing with them. Our neighbours were very unimpressed at the presence of the cats- my view is if you don't like animals, don't come!

My recent stay at the Emilia Llana Hotel in Cape Verde had its ups and downs. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the warm and welcoming staff, which set a positive tone. However, our room on the ground floor left much to be desired, as it faced a wall and rooms from the hotel opposite. We opted to upgrade to a poolside swim-up room for an additional €80 per night, which was a better option but came at a cost. After exploring the hotel, I found that the swim-up rooms seemed to be the only decent accommodations available.

Our upgraded room was clean but not spotless. Housekeeping service was inconsistent—on two occasions, we returned after a full day out to find our room hadn’t been serviced. While the room included a minibar, it only had a couple of beers and soft drinks, which was disappointing. There was also no iron, which I would have expected at this level.

Unfortunately, the food and restaurant experience were very poor. We tried the Italian restaurant, where both my partner and I ended up with upset stomachs the next day. The service there also fell short compared to the buffet restaurant, where the staff were more attentive. However many of the food items appeared to be recycled from previous days, which made me quite wary of trying much. I ultimately limited my diet during the stay to avoid any further issues.

The pool area itself was nice and spacious, but unfortunately, the covers on the deck chair cushions were moldy. About halfway through our stay, the hotel staff started removing these moldy cushions covers, but they simply piled the inside foam up near our room, which wasn’t ideal. The all-inclusive drinks were another disappointment—overly sweet and subpar in quality.

There were daily activities, but they were underwhelming. I joined a Pilates class that was, without a doubt, the worst I’ve ever attended. It consisted of no more than six basic exercises with lots of unnecessary rest time, making me question whether the instructor was qualified. Similarly, the water aerobics session was the same every day, with identical music and choreography, which quickly became repetitive.

The gym was another letdown. It was incredibly basic, with just a few dumbbells and two benches shared between the Emilia Llana and the neighboring TUI Blue Hotel. For a hotel advertised as five-star, the fitness facilities were nowhere near what you’d expect. In fact, despite the hotel’s five-star rating, I’d personally rate it closer to a three-star plus, given the overall experience.

In conclusion, while the staff were friendly and the pool area had potential, Emilia Llana fell short in key areas like dining, cleanliness, and facilities. For a supposed five-star hotel, I expected much more.

We booked a level room at Melia Llana Beach Resort & SPA for 8 days at the beginning of December 2023. This is a beautiful adult-only hotel, if you want peace and quiet, the hotel is perfect for that. The rooms including the bathroom were very large, very nice and very clean. We had a wonderful, large bed and were very comfortable. The level pool and the general pools are cleaned every day and the staff check the water quality of all pools every day. The hotel is very clean. There is a large selection of various restaurants. We tried the Italians, the Cullinarium and the grill, they were great. The grill restaurant is very good, the grill chef Manuel is the best. The service staff at the reception, restaurants and bars are very friendly and they try to make all wishes possible. We would like to thank the entire management team, all the reception level staff (special thanks to Sydney and Viviane), the entire restaurant team (special thanks to Kimberly, Cristiano, Zuleika, Daniel, Antonio), and bar team (Alessandro, Davilson, Elisangela, etc.) for making our holiday carefree. A special thank you goes to Joao C., muito obrigada Joao para todo.

The hotel is a good African 5*. The room was very spacious; everything worked as it should - cleaning was always on time and to the highest standard. The service is very nice and helpful. In this place I recommend taking mosquito spray with you - they eat well :)

As for the food - it is not that varied (mainly fruit - both sea and land :); but then again, it's due to the location of the island itself, so at the end of the day it's hard to blame them.

The ocean was very warm during our stay (1st week of September); the beach, which is located right next to the hotel, is beautiful, and we didn't even mind that it was public, because the locals are not interested in tourists at all, and the sellers of "soap and jam" stop bothering us after one question, which is a big plus and directly translates into the comfort of a beach holiday (for me peace and quiet was the key, so a strong 5* here too).

Another five for the breakwaters - in this ocean they were a real lifesaver (you can also walk a few dozen meters further and compare them with the neighboring beach).

As for evening attractions: I recommend the Bikini Beach bar - they make (of course, for an additional fee) really good drinks. The downside is that during our 7-day stay it was open only for 3 days. As for what the hotel itself offers - in my opinion, it is an offer for retirees.

To sum up: I recommend staying in this place to people who want a quiet, good standard of sunbathing.
