It was just so nice to be there. I was looking forward to finally have some vacation from work and this was better than I expected. I went for a stretching and fitness everyday, sometimes for a aqua gym and aqua bikes, with amazing animator teams called Swan, Jet team and Capverdian (I don't know what their name was but they had blue-orange long sleeve T-shirts). Their energy made me feel really great and I looked forward to every exercise. The animator teams took turns so no exercise was the same. So diverse! For someone who is more fan of a active holiday I can't recommend this more. But my mum lied there whole week at the pool and loved it as well, so..:)

Not too bad, the room was reasonably clean and comfortable, the food and drinks were also pretty decent, pool area was ok too, the beach was lovely. Didn’t like the amount of cats that were around the outside dining area, didn’t have any issues with the staff, most spoke reasonable English, WiFi was limited to a few areas and was often hard to connect and sluggish. Weather was ideal.

Great holiday hotel, I had a great large room (suite) with a small living room/kitchen and a bedroom with a huge bed, a bit too firm for me... Nice room, two balconies and view overlooking the ocean. Not noisy (you could hear the waves all night ) although quite close to the bar, didn’t disturb me at all Great food, different types every day, lots to choose from and really fresh and nice! Not like many other all-inclusive places! Wine, well, so-so, beer and vodka tonic better cards to play ! Several of the other guests gained quite some weight during their stay... Activities were mainly the pool and the beach of course. Nice large pool, and a somewhat smaller but more quiet, just nearby, were nice and less windy compared to the beach. The wind wasn’t troubling me, but it was present during all the week. Last days were also a bit less open for ocean swimming due to large waves and strong current in the ocean. The beach were much nicer anyway, in my opinion. Lovely holiday, would like to go back, but never for more than a week, and bring lots to read, there isn’t much else to do.

*Disclaimer* Some of the other guests I met at the hotel thought it was a good experience for them as far as their standards go. But honestly, the clientele of this hotel wasn't shall we say the fanciest. A harsh but honest review. Just got home from a nightmare week on Cape verde and I've been itching to write this review and there is a lot to be said about this place. Check-in: It went fast but was not at all systematic and a bit awkward. Rooms Our first impression of the room was that our door wasn't working and we had to force it open for the first few days until they fixed it (and then it broke again). Room cleanliness was below what I'd expect in a hotel. Bathroom and bathtub, disgusting, didn't even want to sit in the bathtub. Refrigerator which wasn't even working was disgusting probably hadn't been cleaned since the hotel was opened. No tables or sunchairs on neither of our 2 balconies just a few plastic chairs. A broken weird looking stool stood in our bathroom the entire week (wtf?). I kept on pushing it over so that that the cleaners should realize that it is broken and take it away but they just kept putting it back together and placed it in the corner of the bathroom. Overall impression of rooms and hotel in general is that it's an hotel in desperate need of a remake. So much broken and unfixed things everywhere once you start looking around. Cleanliness (excluding the rooms) Nothing to worry about except that there was a large PILE OF PUKE for THREE DAYS on one of the MAIN STAIRS of the hotel. So well yes, a lot to worry about given that they can't clean up a pile of puke visible to everyone. Makes me wonder how they treat hygiene where guests don't see it. I love cats but please try to keep them out of the restaurant for gods sake. Water Yes. I'm putting water in it's own category cause you should avoid drinking the still water in the restaurant and in the bars. Unhealthy levels of Flouride, probably because it's tap water. Bottles of water cost €2 euros which was what we ended up buying and brining to breakfast, lunch and dinner. Food I spoke to a lot of people on the hotel which all said that they thought the food was OK. But to my standard it was absolutely HORRIBLE to be perfectly honest. The only thing that the hotel did really well was the pizza slices, but you can't eat pizza slices for an entire week. The food was uneatable. Undercooked, often cold, tasteless, and the fruit and veggies often tasted of other types of food (such as onions). The staff and hotel management should realize that the food isn't as good as you think given the vast amounts of food that guests leave on their plates continuously (yes, mountains of food). Deserts tasted of nothing except sugar sugar and more sugar. Pool area The poolarea is an absolute horror story in and of it self. We spent our first two days by the pool before spending the rest of the week by the beach which was a lot better except it was pretty windy. The biggest problem with the pool area is simply, "What is it?" Is it a pool area? A disco? A gym? A radio channel with a host talking non-stop? At around 9 or 10am, they started blasting music with a DJ that would shut the hell up turning off the music to scream in his mic for 3 seconds, turning on the music for 3 seconds then turning it off again. It was a MAAAAAAAAAD HOUSE. The pool by the way is chloralized sea water. So it's pretty painful for your eyes when swimmng against the wind, which there was a lot of. Everyone kept putting towels out every morning occupying every sunchair, but the pool area was mostly empty some days. The "Gym" We looked forward at hitting the gym every morning, but it'd be a lie to even call it a "Gym". It wasn't a gym. Just a room of scrap metal you'd find in a junkyard. 1 of 4 exercise bikes was barely working. The other 3 were no bueno. Things to do Waiting for restaurant to open for lunch and dinner. Like a prison. There's nothing to do. And the whole experience just makes you unmotivated to go and explore. Ops. Just realized. There was nothing to explore. The Island mostly consists of goats and cows. Other than that, it's empty. The staff Friendly if you're speaking French or Portuguese. Rude, sighing, questioning if you don't. Like they don't want to be there and they most of all don't want YOU there. You're a burden to them. A lot of people I spoke to also said this. Conclusion. Stay away.

We hesitated for a long time to go to Cape Verde. Most of the Island certainly looks like a picture from the Mars lander, but the hotel ground was green and lush with lawns, trees and flowers. The beach is huge and clean, but the waves are high so you have to stay in the water's edge if you want to bathe. The food is good and various (except for the eggs and omelettes at breakfast which are cooked in advance rather than on order). Pretty annoying that staff constantly are walking around sweeping the floor where you sit the table. They could wait until the table is free. Good room cleaning and quite OK room with a wide comfortable bed. The TV, however, only had French speaking channels, except for Eurosport that was in English. Less good: Too loud music by the pool and pool bar, especially when the animation team comes along. If you hate high volume, try to get a sun bed in one of the ends of the pool area. The safe costs 2 Euro per day and is way too small for even a 13” laptop. We hid our laptop on top of the cabinet. For sure the first place a thief would look at... In an all-inclusive hotel, bottles of water should definitely be included. The hotel charges 2 Euro for a bottle of 1.5 litres! Quite silly with the poster in the restaurant that that says that is not allowed to refill your own bottles with water - which everyone did anyway and the staff ignored. The city Sal Rei was quite a disappointment. A dusty godforsaken African town with nothing to see. Nothing to buy either, although the vendors at the local “mall”, where to taxi driver stopped, were very persistent. Not aggressive or unfriendly, but very persistent. We also asked the taxi driver to drive us to a shop which was described as a “supermarket” on the map. “Very big shop”, the driver told us, but it turned out to be quite an ordinary grocery shop with nothing interesting to buy… Finally, we ended up at a small clothing shop where the prices were quite high. If you are planning to relax at the resort most of the time, Royal Horizons Boa Vista could be a good choice for you. The climate on Boa Vista is quite warmer than on the Canary Islands, only 2 hours away – although the evenings could require a sweater. And no jet lag for us Europeans.
