We were in Cape Verde for the third time and again it met our expectations. For the money we bought the trip for, we received above average quality services. The biggest assets of the stay were the peace and quiet, the uncrowded, basically half-empty area and the beach. The arrival at the hotel was already in a very nice, friendly spirit, through the welcome drink to the service of the receptionists at check-in. The hotel area is spacious, kept clean, the pools are perfect, with enough sunbeds for the whole day, but we were only here a few times for a while. Accommodation is in one-story villas, absolutely sufficient, we had a view of the pool in the relaxation zone. Cleaning was done every day, including changing towels, air conditioning worked well, very quiet. The only minus was the weak stream of water in the shower, probably because of saving water, which is understandable in this location.
The taste of the food was very good, the choice was just right for us, the composition of the food varied. The service in the restaurant is excellent in every way! A bonus was the wonderful view of the ocean from the outdoor part of the restaurant.
A wide selection of soft drinks. As for water, you will receive one 2l bottle of water upon arrival in your room, then you can draw your own in the restaurant or have water drawn into your own bottles at the bars or buy it for 2E at the reception. Someone criticizes this, but for me it's great, because it prevents a huge amount of plastic waste. It is worth mentioning the excellent coffee from the lever coffee machine - all possible types, including iced.
We mainly drank beer and gin and tonic from the bar, it was luxurious, we didn't like the cocktails, either it's their alcohol or they don't know how to mix them in the right proportions. I had a good mojito a few times, but I had to decide what and how much I wanted in the glass.
The employees are nice, hardworking, they add to the hotel's overall client satisfaction.
I cannot evaluate the daily animation programs, we did not participate in them. We went to the dance show twice in the evening, and it was a very nice, professional performance. I would only skip the lengthy, awkward lighting of the phones at the beginning. But the kids probably enjoy it... :-)
I certainly don't need to write much about the ocean here, everyone probably knows by now that it is simply one big show. On our date, the water was warm, the waves were not huge, perfect for a spree. The beach is maintained, clean, 2/3 of the sunbeds are always unoccupied, here and there some are cracked, which is uncomfortable, luckily there were so many of them that it was not a problem to exchange them for others. The umbrellas are spaced further apart, which was great - you had your privacy.
For the trip, we took a taxi that we called from the reception to Sal Rei and agreed with the taxi driver that he would also take us to the shipwreck and to the village of Bafareira, it cost us a total of 60E for 4 people (without haggling), although we had it without interpretation, but at the price that CK has for one person.
We went home rested and very satisfied. We will definitely be happy to return to the hotel in the future. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

The hotel is old, but very well-kept, with a beautiful view of the ocean and a wonderful beach. The rooms are located in atmospheric houses, cleaned and refreshed every day, the air conditioning works, there are mosquito nets in the doors and water was not a problem. Wonderful alleys, lots of greenery. Two seawater pools, clean, water was not cold. The food is very good, everyone will find something for themselves. This hotel is made up of people, the group of animators is amazing, you feel like family, the evening shows are amazing. Beautiful, guarded beach with sun loungers. There is nothing in the vicinity of the hotel, but the beach makes up for everything, you can walk for kilometers to the right towards the capital where there are beach bars along the way, or left towards the desert. There are souvenir stands on the beach. I highly recommend this hotel and this place. Thank you for a wonderful holiday!

Pension is very well placed on the beach of chaves which is beautiful.
Some of the international staff and facilitators speak French. Thanks to the coralia animators Elysa, Lamine and Mama.
The food is varied and quality. Only desserts were not always to our taste but there are always fruits. The rooms (sea view suite) are spacious with a very large bed. The doors would have to be reviewed (closed or opens badly or damaged) , isolation of the partition doors with the neighboring room.
Despite this we had a great stay at this Pension the cleaning in the room was perfect and the cocktails at the bar of a much higher quality than many all inclusive. Thank you for the friendliness and hospitality of many of the waiters and waitresses at the bar near the reception.

We had a great stay at this hotel.
First of all, we were overwhelmed by the kindness and professionalism of the staff of this establishment. Whether in French or English (in addition, of course, Portuguese), each of our requests was received with a smile and the desire to respond perfectly. And each time it was a successful mission.
The hotel is more than charming, it is typical and you feel at home. It is not a factory, on the contrary, it is a hotel on a human scale. Very well decorated (interior and exterior), it is also perfectly maintained and exemplary clean. We feel good there and we can sense the desire not to forget any detail on the part of the maintenance staff. The cleaning of the rooms is also impeccable with little touches that make the stay even more pleasant.
The entertainment teams are very attentive to everyone's sensitivity and do not hesitate to come and chat without being invasive. This is done gently and kindly. One of our friends had caught a cold on the plane and was a little unwell, the facilitators checked in on her regularly. It's nice.
The all-in formula is quality. The cocktails are very well served and the service very professional. The breakfast is rich and varied. Lunch and dinner meals are, however, a little repetitive. The food, on the other hand, is very fresh and of good quality.
We highly recommend the Royal Horizons. It was our first stay in Cape Verde and we were won over!

First time visiting Cape Verde and first time staying at Occidental. Excellent experience on both counts.
Boa Vista, and particularly The Occidental, is an amazing place to visit to unwind and recharge. It's one of the quieter islands and as we went in September, the hotel and surrounding area was quieter too. Never at a loss for eating choices in the all inclusive, which were plentiful and catered for veg and non veg palettes. (More difficult if you're vegan). The location of the hotel was amazing being only a stones throw from Praia de Chaves beach which had beautiful white sand and was huge. There was a lifeguard on duty and on 6 days out of 7, we were able to go into the water. Great for walking about in and riding the waves near the shore, not recommended for swimming further as the water can be rough and tidal pull is strong. Keeping the above in mind, we were in the sea everyday and loved it. The hotel is less than 10 mins to the airport and taxi should be about 10 euros. We unfortunately paid at the time of our booking as part of the package and were charged a lot more than this.
I used a Revolut card whilst in Boa Vista for incidentals at the airport. Most shops will take contactless/chip and pin payments. I took 100 euro cash which was mainly used for taxi's and tipping (which is a courtesy and not expectation). Staff and locals were all very friendly.
Unless you have a data roaming tariff, WiFi is only available in the reception, bar and pool areas. No wifi in the rooms. The connection when you get it is not the fastest.
Would highly recommend Boa Vista and Hotel October Occidental. Choose one of the other Cape Verde islands if you want a more energetic ,lively place to stay. Boa Vista was perfect for us as it was quieter.

A perfect place to spend an unforgettable holiday.
The staff is undoubtedly one of its most valuable assets, each and every one of them make you spend some extraordinary days, from the gardener who greets you to the room maids who always have a detail in the room, the waitresses who the second day already know your tastes and put the drinks as soon as they see you
The beach is immense and with clean and transparent water, you have free hammocks at your disposal
The buffet, although it seems scarce is not, you have many options for both lunch and dinner, you do not repeat meals, unless you want to clear. Don’t forget to book for La Tortuga Restaurant, it dines wonderfully and the staff is lovely.
The only one but, is the Wifi, it is non-existent, and in the end you end up buying a local card to be able to have connection, although they told me that they were solving it, I hope they will not take long.
It is certainly a hotel to return and enjoy the island.

The hotel is totally to review the rooms are old, I asked that the plugs were fixed xchè they did not work. The old refrigerators broken and lose water the deck chairs broken with little maintenance. The pool flooring is totally to be redone is flaked in short, it is not worth the price they ask for. As for the animation veratour Chiara and Richard were super, clear with his sweetness kept us company at dinner by the pool and walking without ever being intrusive. Richard very professional nice managed to make us dance with his dance lessons accompanied us everywhere without ever being intrusive or rude. Very correct person. Finally the great Sergio, the chef made us eat wonderfully was very helpful and professional.
The rest of the group is a no comment or unrated. Customers do not exist only to know the feedback of holidays over but exist all the settimana.Le excursions are expensive you can safely do with other companies not suggested by veratour those in jeep that make them are uncomfortable for those who happen behind (trunk seats) without air conditioning especially if there are elderly people I do not recommend it. 90% of the Resort is attended by older people. Okkio

Very disappointed by this hotel which absolutely does not deserve 4 stars but 2. Aging and difficult to get around with cobblestones everywhere! We had booked a room with a sea view but in fact the balcony had a very high wall on which it was impossible to see the sea while sitting! so we requested a change. Food overall identical for 8 days, not very qualitative. The staff is very helpful, smiling... except the manager of the establishment who does not have a smile or a word for the customers. All trips outside the hotel are offered at prohibitive prices except for the capital. The massages at the SPA are of quality but at the same price as in France. Beach chairs in poor condition and nothing is provided to shelter from the wind present every day. Difficult swimming because of the waves.

Superb week, everything was perfect..from the welcome at the airport by Lili and Ousmane until our departure..What kindness from the Coralia team, I will also mention Kali,Mama and Lamine so as not to forget anyone because they are so considerate and always attentive. listen to it with a smile.
The hotel is certainly old but very well maintained, magnificent swimming pools, a beach as far as the eye can see and the color of the water to die for.
The all inclusive is real all inclusive with excellent well-measured cocktails, even the coffees are real espressos like at home!!! The restaurant is excellent and very varied..everything is delicious, when you know that everything is imported, it's a real feat to serve us such dishes.
On the program possibility of a lobster evening at the à la carte restaurant but no more lobster..luckily Lili was there and organized everything for us in a restaurant in town La Saudade.she booked us the taxi, the restaurant..and for less expensive than the hotel..Thank you again Lili for your responsiveness.
The room is very large, very functional with lots of storage, a beautiful bathroom...and best of all, an exceptional sea view (room 214 at the very end of the hotel)
You have to find a small fault in this paradise, the water pressure in the evening for the showers, but hey again very responsive staff the plumber intervened in 10 minutes flat with a quick turn of the key and it worked again..You should know that on the island there are 2 desalination plants and no source whatsoever...so water is a big problem.
To conclude this long summary..A big thank you to all the hotel staff for this superb week..

I was recently staying with my husband and son at Royal Horizon Boa Vista and we loved our stay. The hotel has a typically African architecture while, for example, other hostels on the island are twisted but a bit out of character. The bungalows and garden areas are very beautiful, the pools are large, everything is always very clean throughout the hotel area, the beach is great and very clean throughout the beach.
The rooms are large with two huge double beds (which can be joined). They need small “retroaches”, but nothing that disturbs the convenience. The hotel has a buffet restaurant and a beachfront bar/restaurant. There is another restaurant, but it was not working (per ⁇ because in July and August they have more guests). The hotel has three bars, a gym, tennis court, a Spa, a nightclub and an outdoor amphitheater for the shows in a few days in the evening. The food is diverse and reasonably good (there are always at least 4-5 meat dishes, 1-2 fish dishes, an Italian food counter with pizzas and pasta, various salads, salty vegetables, various desserts and various fruits. In this regard, the only negative point is that I think there should be baked fish in the stove, but they told me that the hotel is in the process of transferring to the Barceló Group and are considering having, very soon, baked fish in one of the other restaurants.
The pools have plenty of chairs and beds and in the sand there are also plenty of beds. There is a club for children with staff that entertains the children all day (for the joy of the children and rest of the parents and even the other guests!).
But of all we liked the most was the hotel staff! From the staff of the restaurants/bars, through the entertainment team, to the cleaning staff of the rooms and common areas. They are all very friendly and helpful. The animation team composed of 8-9 boys and girls is simply fantastic! They are all very dear and guests can do various activities throughout the day (gymnastics, in-water cycling, zumba classes and other dances, group games, individual games, pilates, etc.). At dawn, there is always night of music, dance, karaoke, games, etc, and then at 23:00 the disco opens.
Fortunately, I've been to several hotels up to 5 stars, but I've never felt such close to the staff. They made us feel at home and now I understand why I saw some comments from people who had been in this hotel several times. Although it is a 4 star hotel, for us it was 5 stars!

Hi dear Christine,
We were closed since Covid but we are opening this 16th December 2022.
We booked excursions independently rather than the hotel.
We went to see the turtles in the evening laying their eggs . This was magical. This is been July and October. We also went on an off road jeep trip exploring the Santa Maria shipwreck amongst other sights.
We also did 2 sunset barbecue evenings.
