After all the wet, dull and windy weather we had in England during the winter we decided to book a last minute holiday at the Riu Karamboa. We had not been to Cape Verde before so this was something new for us. All we wanted was a relaxing week with plenty of sunshine and we were certainty not disappointed. Everything was fantastic, we could not fault the flight, the hotel, the food, the people or the entertainment. Thank you for a wonderful week, we will certainly be back when the current world difficulties end.

Clean, good food and great location on the beach. Rooms spacious, flat screen tv, fridge, kettle, cups, teas and coffee provided. Bed was a bit uncomfortable as springs were almost poking through mattress but still managed to sleep ok!

We arrived home from the Karamboa on Saturday 21 March after a 14 days holiday in Cape Verde. We were given a very good room with a sea view and balcony. It was decorated in an African style with dark wicker furniture and pictures. We were provided with all the usual slow hairdryer, soap and body wash in the shower, soap, tea/coffee making facilities and a safe. We were stocked up daily with plenty of water in the fridge by the maid service. Even at the end of the holiday which became difficult we were still provided with everything we needed. The food in the buffet was very good, plenty of choice and variety, the 3 restaurants were also very good our favourite being the Cape Verdian. We did not go to the entertainment or really sit in the bar areas as non smokers because they have large smokings areas - also around the pool. The gardens around the hotel are lovely and very well kept. At the end of the holiday it became very difficult due to the Coronavirus , the hotel did the best it could in very very difficult circumstances and for that we are very grateful.

Transfer took 5 minutes from airport. Check in was quick and easy, very friendly reception staff. Was given room 189. Room smelled of damp and mould. Reported this to reception and straight away was shown room 134 which was perfect so moved straight in. Had a problem with a blocked sink in the bathroom, reported it to reception, straight away it was sorted. Asked for extra pillows, we got them before we went out for dinner. Room has safe and air conditioning, free of charge. Hairdryer in bathroom. Tea/coffee/creamer/sugar/bottled water/kettle are all provided as well as a fridge. Food was excellent- enough choice for the fussy eaters - the pizzas were fabulous. Loads of choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Tea/coffee readily available from restaurant and bars as well as soft drinks and alcoholic drinks. Restaurant and bar staff were all excellent- always smiling and friendly We ate at all 3 speciality restaurants. All were good but only the cape verdean was table service for the main course, the rest were buffet service. The grounds, pool area and beach were all clean and very well maintained with plenty of sunbeds. Please note that there are no lifts in this hotel so if you have any mobility issues or have children in pushchairs then request a ground floor room. There is a long ramp which will take you from the ground level where restaurant , pool and beach are up to reception area where you will find shops and bars We had a walk in to Sal Rei, took about an hour along the beach. There are a couple of supermarkets and a few souvenir shops, not much else but nice to see. Overall we had a lovely relaxed holiday and we will definitely return once the island has reopened
