This Hotel is advertised as a 4* + it may have been once but not now. To me it is the little thing that make a difference the room towels towels are small in in some case thread bare the electric sockets are old and we had only one spar for our use. The rooms are adequate with everything you need but are tired and do need a revamp. on the plus side the air con is very quiet and the shower was always a constant temperature. cleaning of the room is to a very high standard, do use the door signs as they will knock you door if you don't use the do not disturb sign. We found the food at Karamboa to be of a very high standard of choice and quality and staff are friendly and attentive clearing your table between courses all though the Cape Verde specialty restaurant had little choice for the main course and being the only course served at you table. Asian specialty restaurant had a lot more choice but all course are buffet. Karamboa has a large pool and lots of sunbed but they are old and dated, the biggest swim up bar area I have come across but let down by lack of maintenance as lots ay the mosaic tiles are missing. Pool staff are great always doing the hotel song at 3 which is a definite crowd pleaser there is a shaded seating are by the pool bar and toilets very close. the beach area is ample with lots of sunbeds alas they are old worn this area also has plenty of shade if desired .entertainment and fitness staff are very friendly and not to pushy with activities like French bowls Darts soft archery aqua aerobics and yoga. evening entertainment was a little better then expected. This hotel is very clean the staff are friendly food is good but desperately needs work doing to it and in my view should not be advertised as a 4* +

For the first we visited the Cape Verde Island of Boa Vista at the resort Hotel Riu Karamboa for 10 days. The Island: A beautiful tropical Island with lots of dunes covering most of the Island, soft sandy beaches that go on for miles and miles. The weather was between 24C and 26C when we visited in January and have been told that it does not get much above 30C even in Summer. Sea was warm and ok for splashing about in the surf but due to currents is not usually good for swimming off the beach. There is nearly always a breeze that keeps the climate pleasant and in general low humidity (we were told it can get a little humid in August / September. Not much night life outside of the Hotel so if looking for a party Island look elsewhere. Lots of water sport available including kite/wind surfing, Scuba Diving, Snorkelling ect and quad rides and dune buggies if driving over dunes is your thing along with cultural tours. The Hotel: The Riu Karamboa was the first tourist hotel on the Island opening in 2008 and when fully occupied has around 800 rooms. The tariff was all-inclusive and this meant you had access to to food from 8am to 10pm at various outlets and access to alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks 24/7. The qulity and variety of food was excellent so you could vary your menu, the deserts were especially nice. The swimming pool was good with with pleny of room to swim or play. The gym was showing its age and need a little refurbishment although all the equipment worked. The spa was small but adequate. Evening entertainment was provided by a resident dance troupe with local band giving the occasional gig. The rooms were kept spotlessly clean and tidy, however as with the gym they are beginning to show their age and could do with refurbishment to make them feel more modern, but, for the time spent in the room they were comfortable enough. The 'double' bed was as in most hotels of this type two singles pushed together so two separate mattresses. The staffe were brilliant and could not do enough for you and the whole hotel was kept spotless. All in all we had one of the best holidays we have ever had.

Date of stay. 19th Dec - 2nd Jan 2021. This is the 4th time we have stayed at the karamboa in Boavista The hotel is very tired and dated now. The pool tiles are in very poor condition and a lot of them missing. The showers around the pool are switched off. The sun loungers ar tatty and need replacing. The rooms are very dark with hardly any plug sockets. Before covid the food selection and quality were excellent. Now it is much of the same every day now. There are only 2 themed restaurants open now, and they are not open every night so you struggle to get a table. (You need to book well in advance ) The main entertainment dose not start until after 10pm. There is not much on beforehand and so people start to get bored and leave. The entertainment before covid inside and pool side was excellent. It is very poor now. I will say the staff are excellent and are trying very hard to keep it nice. This is not a 4 star rating hotel and it needs a refit Or re categorising. The photos on the Tui site are 12 years out of date so you are not truly seeing what you are getting. There are far better hotels in Cape Verde for the same money. For an extra few hundred pounds you can stay at the 5 star Riu Palace next door. Thats where we are going next. Michael W

Some of the downsides to get done first. Was not keen on the bathroom/shower/toilet set up in the room we had which I think is a common theme there. The entertainment is not great, but the staff on it really are trying their best to make it as good as possible, but that may suit some people. Plenty of great stuff from very friendly staff to great food all over the site, the Asian restaurant you have to try but book it as it is fairly small, rooms serviced daily with clean towels daily too, beach towels are available close to the pool, trust me there are more ups than downs on this place by a long way. Very clean and seems to be staff on that all the while so reassuring on that. We will 110% be going back, I have classed as Mid range as I see it between that and luxury but don't let my rating miss-guide you on that.

Travelled as a party of 5 - 3 under 15s in the first week on January 2022. The hotel was very good and we all really enjoyed it. The location, beach and pools are excellent. Chill out or join in with activities its up to you. The rooms were cleaned every day to high standard, only gripe was there is not a door to bathroom which made it difficult to get ready with teenage daughters in the room. The food is excellent and loads of choice. Drinks not so great, I drink beer which was good but the long drinks and cocktails could do with some improvement. All in all a great holiday and I would recommend this hotel.
