This home, is very lovely and clean. However, the continental breakfast was completely lacking. At least it could be fresh juice and a higher end of coffee. There was instant oatmeal and boxed cereal. And besides the apples.and oranges and some communal yogurt. Not great. Safety issues for sure. Yes it's the Adirondacks, yes there will be snow and ice. But there should never be an issue where someone cant even maneuver the parking lot or the entrance, a member of our party fell more than once trying to enter and exit the house. Luckily no one was truly injured.
When we arrived the owners were not there and never did show. The house had a lockbox but we had not been given a code. When I tried to access the property info on VRBO it was no longer available (owner removed). We had no phone number to call, but our mobile phones had no reception anyway. Finally got in by another guest. I sent a VRBO message to the owner, who did not respond until 24 hours later. It is NOT as represented. It is a hostle you share with others - 10 beds in 4 rooms of varying quality from poor to horrid. It has one true bathroom and one converted laundry room with a toilet and shower stall. The kitchen had dirty dishes around. I went to make coffee and the mug had filth in the bottom. The cereal in the cabinet had an expiration date of 2017 (2 years old) and the fridge had a pot of half cooked soup. There is no breakfast. Just doughnuts. The bedroom we stayed in had a used tube of ointment on the bed stand and water on the floor. When I complained to VRBO they said they could do nothing. They forwarded the complaint to the owner and who responded to VRBO with lies about us. Stay away.…
I was lucky enough to stay at both locations on a recent trip, the Owl Lodge and The Hoot Owl Lodge. The Owl Lodge is a small, rustic style house which sleeps four in two bedrooms (one double bed, one bunk bed). It is located near the Overlook Park in Newcomb. I also sent a few nights in the Hoot Owl Lodge, which is decorated more in a cozy farmhouse style--gas fireplace, huge country kitchen, all the amenities you could want. The owner provides many options for continental breakfast--yogurs, fruit, cereal, fresh homemade baked goods, milk, juice, etc.
I have had several wonderful visits to the Hoot Owl. It is warm, clean, and comfortable. And the hosts are so lovely! Do not miss Kelly’s breakfast bread! The Hoot Owl will will be my starting off point for many adventures to come.
Had a wonderful stay at the Hoot Owl. Great location and friendly owners. Newcomb is a very mellow and undiscovered little town. Hiking the Goodnow Mountain trail was close-by and just an awesome experience. Climb the fire watch tower to see AMAZING views of the Adirondacks! Guessing that any time of year, the views would be amazing?! Would highly recommend this comfortable Inn. We'll be back!
