My parents and I had a truly wonderful and memorable stay at Mohonk Mountain House. The staff was warm and courteous, and it was a pleasure conversing with them. We loved the outdoor scenery, spending time by the fireplaces, and appreciated the variety of activities that were available to us. We would like to thank Mohonk Mountain House for their hospitality and for leaving an indelible mark in our memory. We can’t wait to visit again during the summer!
If you are into a peaceful couples retreat with no TV just a fireplace and each other this is the place for you. The food is second to none and just enhances the wonderful experience. The spa services are great.
We loved our stay mainly because of the unique location and the beauty of scenery from all the trails. But also they have a tennis court and the boat to enjoy the lake, plus the restaurant is very good so we enjoyed our two night stay in autumn time.
My bet is that a positive or negative review on trip advisor has no effect on people visiting Mohonk. Some will inevitably think that Mohonk is sinfully expensive, while others almost view it as transcendent, a place where the cares of their daily world fall away. If I eliminate those value judgments, perhaps I can be objective about our experience. When my husband told me he had booked Mohonk for a few day escape, I immediately asked about the cost. He replied he had gotten a deal, one that was still expensive but a discount that seemed feasible. Reaching Mohonk by phone to make dinner reservations and to ask questions was very easy, never being put on hold for more than a minute at a time. Arriving at the property, we had our temperatures checked and were asked about our signing a document affirming we didn't have COVID symptoms. The process was quick, and soon we were off driving around the curving roads to the Mountain House. Wow! My husband said he felt like he was in Switzerland as the house came into view. I thought of Manderly in "Rebecca," hoping the house would be a more pleasant place for us than for the novel's unnamed narrator. When we arrived, the valet put our bags in the hotel, and then we parked in the lot below. The check-in was painless, even though the people at the front desk weren't overly friendly. Still, we were in an upgraded room in just a few minutes, and on the hiking trails in less than 30 minutes. The hiking trails are arguably the highlight of a visit to Mohonk. There are trails for every level of hiker. We didn't get to do the scrambles because they were closed due to the weather, which was a disappointment, but the trails consistently rewarded us with amazing views and endless gazebos to sit and rest. While we were there, I swam in the wonderful inside pool. It was barely used while we were there, so I had the swimming lane to myself. I also used the gym, a place I hadn't visited since March. I love going to the gym, so that was a highlight of our visit too. Now, let's talk about food. No one can complain about the amount of food one is served while at Mohonk. Our two-night stay included six meals where the food was plentiful and mostly good. I enjoyed the lobster omelet at both breakfasts and had steak both nights for dinner. I almost never eat red meat, but the filet especially was moist and succulent. You will find something you like to eat while visiting Mohonk and will gain a little weight unless you are active while there. One small exception is Mohonk serves obviously store-bought cookies for their tea time in the downstairs Granary which surprised and disappointed me. I would have expected home-made. Would we go back? If we were able to secure another discount, we would. But for the price one pays for a couple of nights at Mohonk, I had much rather fly to Europe and see the real Switzerland, if not the real "Manderly."…
My friend & I decided to go to the Mohonk House in place of our usual trip to NYC at this time of the year. I was expecting a 5 star resort based on the cost of the reservation. The hotel's website described it as being “decked the halls” with classic decorations throughout our historic property" and to explore the lights in the garden. Apart from a few Christmas trees scattered about in the main building, there were no Christmas decorations. The dining room in particular was very bare. There was one real fireplace that was lit, the others were gas. I have seen better outdoor lights driving around my neighborhood. The room was very nice, comfortable, but the decor was outdated. Also, there were no coffee or tea making appliances in the room. Very surprising due to the virus and social distancing. The food was good, but the service was lacking. The staff seemed to be inexperienced and not attentive. Dinner was served before we had finished the appetizers. We chose a cheese plate for dessert, and this was just put on the table with no explanation of the types of cheeses or condiments. I expected more based on the price of the one night stay. One last comment, when we checked in we were charged an additional $170 for taxes and service charges!!! This was not mentioned at the time of making the reservation. The room was $680 for one night and that was 30% off the regular price. If you are looking for a high class hotel and stay, you will be disappointed…
