    Another Hidden Gem
We were looking for some place local to celebrate our 25th Wedding anniversary, but were coming up empty as everything seemed to be closed for the Winter. Then, my wife found this place, hidden away in Milton, NY. An historic old house turned into a boutique inn appealed to us. The rooms are moderately sized (we had the Cottage Rose which had a gas fireplace), the staff was very friendly and the grounds are beautiful. It was overcast most of the time, but, as a photographer, that only added to the beauty of the place. The free breakfast was absolutely delicious and my wife can attest to how much she enjoyed the spa. Definitely recommended!

    BB country getaway
The room is charmingly decorated and the bed is so very comfortable. The bathroom is a good size, the showerhead should be a bit larger, but there was instant hot water, which was greatly appreciated after being soaked by rain. There is a fireplace in the room and after 15 minutes the fireplace shut off automatically, it would have been nice to be able to have it on for a longer period of time. The staff is friendly and helpful. Please note laundry service is limited, as staff goes home at 5pm. My room was on the first floor and since this is a BB and there was a bit of noise from above, so if sensitive to noise maybe ask for a second floor room. My friend's room had a very small TV, whereas my room had a more normal size TV.

Secluded Bliss of the North Cottage
My husband and I stayed at Buttermilk this past autumn but could only get a room in the Inn. No cottages were available at that time. When I read (I joined the Inn's email list) that they were reopening after the NYS on PAUSE with a ton of precautions in place to keep their guests safe, I knew we had to reserve the North Cottage. This charming two-bedroom, one-bathroom refuge is nestled in a forested part of the property far from the main Inn and Henry's restaurant, past the llamas, donkeys, chicken and peacock enclosures. It has a back deck that overlooks the Hudson River. When we first arrived, there was no grill out back and we live in an apartment and had really been looking forward to grilling. My husband shared this with an Innkeeper and the next morning it arrived like magic. This place really is magic and the people, who work here, manage the grounds and care for the flora and fauna, are filled with gracious hospitality. Definitely splurge on the North Cottage if you can -you will not regret it!

This was meant to be a fabulous birthday getaway for friends that know eachother since elementary school. we are 70 years old now. Upon arrival we were very disappointed. The location is run down and there was no hot water. When we went downstairs to go to dinner, there was a sign at the desk saying “ our in keepers have left for the evening. If you need assistance overnight, please call Chris Wolfe at 845251566 to the innkeepers will return at 8 AM. If this is a medical emergency, please call 911”. The door had no lock on it, we were in an unlocked home alone. This freaked us out terribly. We called the manager Chris and he said he was off duty for the night. There was no one to call. We had to take our suitcases and go to a Hilton garden hotel for safety. Our dream trip was no longer. It was awful. We didn’t stay and they are refusing to refund us. We explained we felt unsafe in a home with no locked door- alone.

Overpriced, Property in Disrepair, Rude Management, No Peace, and Fraudulent Business Practices. Let's dig in. Fraudulent Business Practices: I was recommended this property from a former colleague, who used to go up to this property once a year on his birthday. He told me all about the inn, the spa, pool, everything. That was probably in 2019. Then COVID happened and then life happened. So, for years, I wanted to go and finally found the right time to go with my sister. I booked not knowing that there would be a construction site right next to our room, trucks going by constantly, hammering, banging. The room I booked specifically had the word "peaceful" twice in the description. Also, the pool, steam shower, and sauna were all closed, though I didn't see any of that information from the main page through booking. When I received my spa confirmation week of our reservation, I saw in bold text at the top of the email that the pool, steam room, and sauna were all closed. Emailed expressing my disappointment asking for some discount given this wasn't what I expected. They responded that it was included in my confirmation email. Yes, that is true, but allllll the way at the bottom under the terms section. Also, no mention of construction next to our room. Plus, I shouldn't be made aware after spending money, but before. Explained this. Then, they mentioned that it was listed on an about page (category to be clicked off of main page), but why would I go to the about page if I had information from a friend? Also, wouldn't you put that information on the main page to be up front? Or maybe anywhere throughout the entire booking process? No, they didn't. Instead they blamed me, the guest. Luxury "resort"? I don't think so. For the record, the assistant GM, Camile did offer to let me cancel day of but my sister and I had already taken PTO and she was on her way, so not really a viable solution. They also offered an upgrade when I arrived but I reminded them that I was traveling with my pet (why I booked the pet friendly room). Thus, they couldn't move us. The simple fact was, they could have solved this with a voucher on dinner, a bottle of wine, anything up front. But instead, they doubled down on shady business practices. So, I filed a complaint with the BBB. Businesses who operate this way should be held to consequences. While ultimately, this business continued to do nothing to resolve, I hope it serves as a warning to others. The room: The bed was nice and comfy but overall, the room was dark, save for the bathroom with the skylight. Walking up the stairs to the property, everything was rusted and falling apart. Inside, the decor was mostly old and in need of repair. While almost every hotel I stay in now has a smart TV, this one has cable channels only and was very small. Considering I paid $712 for 2 nights, certainly not the "luxury" experience as described. I'd maybe pay $250 a night for this room. The spa: Enjoyed my CBD massage. It was fantastic. A+ The scrub was a bit lighter than I would have wanted, but the woman doing it was so lovely and accommodating. The view of the Hudson outside of the spa was also nice. The property: It is very pretty with flowers, willow trees, ponds, views of the Hudson. Ducks everywhere. My sister fed the ducks from her hand. There is also pigs, chickens, and peacocks. Pet Program: They mention dog beds, dog bowls, and toys in the room. None of that was provided. The breakfast: The highlight of the whole thing. It was delicious and the staff here were so lovely. That breakfast was the luxury service that needed to be applied everywhere else. Spot on. Cheering on chef. Buttermilk Falls: We walked down to see it but nothing like the photo. Not really worth seeing. That said, there is a train track down there and it is very cool to see the trains roll by. Henry's Restaurant: The service was A+. The food? Mixed. Calamari was delicious. I got a burger that was burnt (even though I asked for medium) as was the bun. The truffle frites were flacid and dripping in oil. My sister got the short rib and she loved it. I'd recommend Crew Restaurant in Poughkeepsie. That place was amazing. Overall: Thumbs down but that breakfast crew is🔥

Spent a birthday weekend here with my wife. Overall we enjoyed ourselves, but given how expensive this place is (I paid over $500/night), I expected a bit more. The room was fine, and we liked the fireplace, although it gets very hot very quickly, and you have no other way to control the temp. So we alternated between being quite hot and quite cold. The bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable - which maybe some people like but I could hardly sleep. Shower and whirlpool tub were nice. "Afternoon tea" was basically a tiny tray of brownies put out around 3pm. There is really no common area to "hang out" in like there are in some other inns/B&Bs. There is a small living room in the inn that was quite cold, and they didn't turn the fireplace on. Breakfast was very good. Henry's Restaurant - where we went for lunch and dinner - was also quite expensive and the food was just OK. Staff were very friendly and accommodating, especially Nicole in the restaurant, who was fantastic. I really wanted to love it, given how close it is to the city, but in future would probably travel a bit further for a more premium expensive for the same amount of $$.

First off, the staff here are absolutely lovely and accommodating in every way. They are all doing their absolute best to make this a wonderful experience. Unfortunately, I found the lodging not worth the price per night. I simply could not get comfortable temperature-wise, even after moving rooms. There is no temperature control in any of the rooms, and you are at the whim of the thermostats in the hallways. I did not sleep well the two nights I stayed. The food was great, staff fantastic, spa average, lodging poor. Wish I could say differently, but for a premium price, it was not a premium experience for me.

For my 50th Birthday we had planned to do have 17 members of my family enjoy a celebratory dinner at Henry’s on the Farm. One of the houses on the property was booked to allow the members who lived faraway to stay overnight, enjoy the complimentary breakfast, and relax with a spa treatment prior to returning home the next day. Alex and Kara manages events at the Buttermilk Inn & Spa. They did an impeccable job. Alex recommended to use the Inns dining space to keep the party intimate, and allow for it to be decorated an hour in advance of our reservation. A Chef prefix menu was printed and placed at each place setting. Kara assisted during the decorating process to make sure everything was perfect and that service ran smoothly, while always being kind and courteous. Dinner was fabulous and everyone enjoyed their appetizers, salads, and entrees. We did not enjoys the restaurant’s dessert since we had brought our own birthday cake. We stayed at the Riverbirch House, which has 4 spacious bedrooms each having a king bed and an in suite bathroom. The house was clean, comfortable, and well appointed. The next morning the guests enjoyed a short stroll to the Inn for breakfast. The grounds are meticulously cared for. Breakfast offered Frittata, Pecan Waffles, or Eggs. All were yummy. If you didn’t want the hot breakfast items bagels, English muffins, baked muffins, granola, yogurt, and etc were offered. The individuals who booked a spa treatment enjoyed them and some loved their treatment so much that they made a future appointment. All in all the whole experience was top notch. Thank you to all the Buttermilk Inn team members who made this the best 50th Birthday!!!

We were looking for a quick getaway, peace and quiet and Buttermilk Falls Inn truly delivered. It’s tucked away from town with plenty of outside space to sit and relax or walk and wonder. Our room had an semi-private patio perfect for sharing a local glass of wine in the afternoon. During the day we explored local towns and wineries but the dining facilities on site make meals very convenient. The breakfast provided was superb with fresh fruit and pastries as well as three hot entrees. We found the staff helpful and hospitable. Special thanks to Michael Ann for always topping off our morning coffee with a smile!

We totally enjoyed our three night stay at the Buttermilk Inn. We went with no high expectations due to the staffing and other issues facing hotels and restaurants in our area. We were comfortable in our room although did have a few issues. The TV only got a couple of channels, the remote didn’t work, and the WiFi was not strong. We didn’t complain about these issues because they weren’t that important to us. The room was clean. The breakfasts, on the other hand, were fantastic and I would give them five stars! Friendly staff and beautiful grounds.

Do not visit buttermilk falls!!!!!! We booked a weekend, bunch of friends. Unfortunately one friend got Covid two days before arrival. We immediately cancelled however it wasn’t within cancellation policy. We didn’t think it was right for the rest of us to go as we had all Been exposed to our sick friend days before. Buttermilk didn’t respond to our request to cancel. After dozens of phone calls and emails, they finally responded saying they’d issue a credit to use at a later day. They never issued that. When we followed up, they lied and said they never offered that. The manager and GM were terrible at returning phone calls. They were also incredibly rude and deceptive. It’s truly the worst customer service I’ve ever received. They stole $4000 from us.

Hi, we will be sure to take your review into careful consideration moving forward to avoid similar occurrences. At Buttermilk Falls, our cancellation policy is strictly enforced. Unfortunately at the time you reached out to us, the window to receive a refunded cancellation had passed. Great customer service and hospitality towards our guests are a top priority. I apologize that your experience didn't meet your expectations. We hope that you book with us in the future, and allow us the opportunity to provide you with a better experience.

We spent 3 nights there in 2021 and had a wonderful time; I gave a 5 star review. However, these past few months have made me do a total 180 about the property. I started calling in March to see about booking a 3 night long weekend for the family in one of the two houses they have (one 4BR, one 5BR); it is very expensive but we had such a good time last year, were willing to pay the premium. I was told that they "hold" the rooms for weddings, so could not release until 30 days prior. After numerous (at least 15) calls and being told different things at different times, I was finally told that it was 90% that we could do 7/8-7/11; keep in mind that we all had to put in for days off from work Friday & Monday). I called today, 6/2, since it is now about 30 days out and was told, oh, I am sorry, but it was booked by the wedding. I was furious; keep in mind that I had to call them, they did not even have the courtesy to call me, despite the fact that my name was at the front desk. They should just say they are a wedding venue and that is it. I had to practically beg them to take my money, which by the way, would have come to over $5K. I will never go there again nor will I recommend, just the opposite. Very poorly run and no respect for customers, let alone returning ones, which should be valued rather than treated so poorly.
