Christmas stay was perfect. Staff is eager to please, property is stunning, spa is beautiful and the rooms are gorgeous. Special mention for Sairam who is a real asset to the hotel. Not only is she a fantastic cook but she is charming and delightful. Also Ashley and Amelia at the front desk were wonderful. We will definitely add this to our list of favorite getaways.

My husband and I so wanted to love this place after hearing good feedback from friends and seeing pictures of the stunning property. Unfortunately it misses the mark on a lot of crucial details for the high price tag. We booked a weekend for us to escape the city and enjoy the quiet of this pretty part of Hudson Valley. Pros: cozy room with fireplace, adjacent Henry’s restaurant which is warm and tasty, pretty property even in winter with the charm of llamas and chickens. Cons: unprofessional/inattentive service in the Inn (maybe it is under separate management from the restaurant?), rooms in need of an update (holes in the tile of the bathroom, sound proofing needed), mediocre breakfast/afternoon tea offering, general shabbiness to the upkeep (dust stacked shutters, broken/empty duck food dispensers). These cons would be easily forgiven if it was enjoyable to linger in the small but charming living room or breakfast dining space. Alas the fireplace wasn’t lit and one couldn’t read in the living room without hearing the constant gossip and ranting from staff in the kitchen or front desk. We got the sense that the staff hadn’t been trained in hospitality or that they just didn’t care (and were generally unhappy with their jobs). Maybe the latter, if they are understaffed as seemed to be the case at breakfast, which was chaotic. Tea time was equally unimpressive with banging pots in the kitchen, dry brownies and strange electronic music beating in the background. We retired back to our room which was the highlight of this Inn. Hopefully the staff can take on board some of this feedback to make small improvements that would make a welcome difference. (Recommend they take cues from The Pig hotels in England which have nailed the farm-to-table, our-home-is-your-home formula.) Sadly we probably won’t be back to see if they’ve improved. Too many other charmers to try!

My husband and I stayed here for a wedding recently and were looking forward to our visit at Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa. However, we were extremely disappointed. The room was outdated, small, and unbearably hot with no thermostat to control the temperature. It felt like 100 degrees in the room and outside was below freezing, so we couldn't even open the door. We also couldn't open the door for fresh air because our room was on the ground floor and if we left the door open, anyone could walk in. The walls were also paper thin. We could hear other guests' conversations in every direction and footsteps all day and throughout the night. It was quite annoying. We were also disappointed with breakfast. Service was pretty slow and the food was ehh. They ran out of coffee and water and we had to wait a long time for them to replace it. Breakfast ended at 10am and when we asked to order one last thing at 10:01 and were told the chef had left for the day. Later on in the day, I was in search of water for me and the bride and was told the only option available at that time was a water jug in the lobby that was not working properly at the moment. I wasn't given any other options besides a sorry shrug from the receptionist at the front desk. I mean no water?! C'mon. When we returned home from the wedding at 11pm on a Saturday night, there was no one at the front desk and a sign that said someone would be back in the morning. We were looking to purchase a bottle of wine to drink by the fire in the living room, but everything was closed and no options were available to us. We just felt constantly frustrated during our stay at Buttermilk. Although I think it could have been a cute B&B, it really missed the mark for us. Rates are WAY too high for the level of service and accommodations.

Two day stay with husband ahead of thanksgiving holiday madness. Pros Staff was pleasant, food was good enough. Restaurant staff and service was a highlight. Very nice, especially Anne Marie and Matt. Grounds are very pretty Spa on site is nice, especially having indoor pool/sauna Cons Dated/tired/no frills rooms, bathrooms are sparse and very no frills, awful lighting in rooms - no in between either way too bright with all lights on or off and very dark. Nice spa, and products but not featured in bathrooms. Restaurant lacked ambiance, “cafeteria” bright lights. Just not cozy. Common areas lack warmth. Huge fireplace in living room not lit during our stay. Imagine it was good in its day but with all the options in Hudson Valley, this one no longer seems “loved”

What a sweet place this is. We stayed in the main house and had a pretty room overlooking the pond. The room was made up very well with nice linens and a comfortable bed. They had tea service in the afternoon, complimentary, which we welcomed as we had been driving several hours. They were friendly, hospitable and helpful. We ate dinner there in the farm. It was just fine. Not fabulous, but good. The farm is lovely to walk around and see that they do grow their own vegetables and take care of this beautiful land. Breakfast was great. Home made scones and baked goods. They even had good coffee and that is difficult to find in upstate, NY. I wouldn’t recommend it for children unless they have an independent cabin as it is a quiet and peaceful spot. Don’t hesitate to drive out of your way for this sweet spot.
