We were getting tired of restaurants in this area of the ADK (such as Inlet, Eagle Bay & Old Forge) having only certain nights open to the public or a very limited menu. Not at Stillwater! We were pleasantly surprised to see a full menu and open 7 days a week! Food was fantastic & the wait staff was very personable. It was well worth the drive!
A unique hideaway in a beautiful area! Marion and Joe are terrific hosts and see to it that their guests are comfortable and have everything they need. The rooms are quaint and clean. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere friendly and cozy. It is literally at the end of a long road into the woods and lies on the shore of the Stillwater Reservoir. I've always been there in winter, but plan to come back for hummingbird season, which is most of the summer - Marion takes care of those little guests every year, too! And did I mention how good the good is...? 😃 ❄🌲🐦
Since we had a rainy day on Monday we decided to go on a little road trip for lunch and found the Stillwater Hotel online. Google mapped the drive at 2 hours so definitely doable and so we went. The drive up was scenic and easy until we got about 6 miles out from the restaurant. There the paved road ended abruptly turning into a rather rocky forest road, not too great when you're driving a sports car. Any way, we made it there and found the Stillwater Hotel in a nice, scenic spot only steps away from the Stillwater Reservoir with a gorgeous view of several islands and surrounded by woods with hummingbirds buzzing in and out to come to the many feeders. Staff was very welcoming, warm and attentive... the ambiance rustic and cozy. The menu features a variety of American cuisine and in addition there were several lunch specials. The food was homey and good... I had perch with fries, my husband a cup of seafood chowder and fried chicken. Prices are very reasonable especially considering the remoteness of the place... we'll definitely will be back!…
Visited the Stillwater hotel yesterday for lunch. Marian the owner was a great hostess. I had the blue cheese wedge with grilled chicken. A very large wedge of iceberg lettuce with blue cheese crumbles and bacon bits, drizzled with Marian ' s homemade balsamic dressing. It was different than wedge salad I have had before but the balsamic dressing made it even more delicious. I ate it all! My husband had the open face Reuben which was also very large, came with fries and Cole slaw. He brought half home. He said it was also delicious. This is a hotel /restaurant deep in the Adirondacks but worth the trip to get there. We really enjoyed watching the multiple hummingbirds at the window!
Delicious food, gracious hosts, beautiful views, and a reservoir with so many nooks and crannies to explore....such a wonderful find! We were a little nervous about the number of boat trailers in the parking lot, but this body of water is so grand that there's plenty of room for everyone. It's truly a paddlers paradise!
