First off, we went off-season on a rainy weekend. So my experience could be affected by that fact. This was a last minute booking due to the rain forecast, so we booked the closest cabin we could find. The entire place was quiet. Possibly due to the weather forecast or off-season. Not many people around, very peaceful. The area is...

Gilbert Lake has been my favorite campground for years. As noted by another camper, location is key. Pick hilltop for families wanting more interaction for children. I like the sites closer to the entrance for more privacy. I'm a tent camper so my main gripe with most campgrounds, including here, is their catering to RV's, which I find too big...

This is one of the least private NY State car camping grounds. The Hilltop area is wide open. It's basically a large lawn with designated, gravel driveways. DO expect to be in everyone else's business and they in yours. The campground was dirty. Our site had dog food and cigarette butts strewn about, and it was clear the firepit hadn't...

I stayed in a family cabin just outside Gilbert Lake State Park ! This park has been for the last 30 years one of my favorite places to go when I travel north from Long Island to Lauren's New York ! It's just a short drive from Oneonta NY . Oneonta has a lot of nice restaurants ! Especially Brooks...

The lake was clean and not very crowded. The amenities were clean as well. What a beautiful and inexpensive spot this is to camp. Close enough to Cooperstown to use as a week long home. I bought firewood and ice at the office, very reasonable. I loved it!

We stayed in two neighboring cabins to accommodate 8 people - 5 adults and 3 kids. They were very clean when we arrived, everything was in great condition, and even the toilet on the porch (we were nervous about that until we saw it) wasn't bad at all! The cabins we stayed in were recently renovated and they were just...

I recently stayed the weekend after Labor day in cabin #13. It was very quiet and not many at the park this time of year but the weather was still very nice and warm. This cabin has been updated and I thought was in very good condition. Nice wide plank wood floors, open beam ceilings and beautiful wood adirondack chairs....

We stayed at Gilbert Lake State Park for its proximity to Cooperstown. The electric camp sites offer little or no privacy - people walk right through your site to get to the bathroom or wherever they are going. The campground itself is very difficult to find and we got lost both finding the camp and leaving for home. Cell service...

This was our second time camping at this state park for 4th of July weekend. We travel 2 1/2 hours for a 3 night stay because it is fabulous! Camping/Hiking/Swimming all in one park! Once we get there, we never leave the park. In 2013 we stayed in what is now site 72. It was a very large site for...

*The so-called third bedroom is actually what looked like a hospital bed in the main living area. *The bathroom is a toilet in a stall on the screen porch (we had to drive to the showers and sometimes wait since there were just a few showers and a whole lot of campers and cabin residents). *We awoke every morning to...

“Funny this review is arranged as for a hotel!!”

“If you want to read in a cabin, bring a lamp and an extension cord. Ask for mousetraps at check in. Ask how the door is oriented in cabins, so you and neighbors who are less than ideal aren't on top of one another. When they say nothing is provided, they mean it. Bring a sponge or a dishcloth for the counters.”

“bring bed linens/pillows, ask about the renovated cabins and locations in relation to beach and showers ,the wood sold on site is green(wet).”

“If you don't mind a drive to the beach pick anything in the loops farthest from it, all of these sites appeared to be really nice, we had the very last loop in the 180s/190s which was dry and open because of the pine trees. Don't go to the hilltop.”
