This is one of the least private NY State car camping grounds. The Hilltop area is wide open. It's basically a large lawn with designated, gravel driveways. DO expect to be in everyone else's business and they in yours. The campground was dirty. Our site had dog food and cigarette butts strewn about, and it was clear the firepit hadn't... More

I stayed in a family cabin just outside Gilbert Lake State Park ! This park has been for the last 30 years one of my favorite places to go when I travel north from Long Island to Lauren's New York ! It's just a short drive from Oneonta NY . Oneonta has a lot of nice restaurants ! Especially Brooks... More

The lake was clean and not very crowded. The amenities were clean as well. What a beautiful and inexpensive spot this is to camp. Close enough to Cooperstown to use as a week long home. I bought firewood and ice at the office, very reasonable. I loved it!

We stayed in two neighboring cabins to accommodate 8 people - 5 adults and 3 kids. They were very clean when we arrived, everything was in great condition, and even the toilet on the porch (we were nervous about that until we saw it) wasn't bad at all! The cabins we stayed in were recently renovated and they were just... More

I recently stayed the weekend after Labor day in cabin #13. It was very quiet and not many at the park this time of year but the weather was still very nice and warm. This cabin has been updated and I thought was in very good condition. Nice wide plank wood floors, open beam ceilings and beautiful wood adirondack chairs.... More

We stayed at Gilbert Lake State Park for its proximity to Cooperstown. The electric camp sites offer little or no privacy - people walk right through your site to get to the bathroom or wherever they are going. The campground itself is very difficult to find and we got lost both finding the camp and leaving for home. Cell service... More

This was our second time camping at this state park for 4th of July weekend. We travel 2 1/2 hours for a 3 night stay because it is fabulous! Camping/Hiking/Swimming all in one park! Once we get there, we never leave the park. In 2013 we stayed in what is now site 72. It was a very large site for... More

*The so-called third bedroom is actually what looked like a hospital bed in the main living area. *The bathroom is a toilet in a stall on the screen porch (we had to drive to the showers and sometimes wait since there were just a few showers and a whole lot of campers and cabin residents). *We awoke every morning to... We rented cabin 11 for a 2 night stay with 2 young boys. When we checked in, the lady was very rude which set the stage... Cabin 11 was (to be nice) absolutely disgusting! It was covered in mold and moss and set on what looked to be very unsturdy cement slabs. Inside was worse: the kitchen was filled with... More

This was a first time camping trip for my wife and pre teen daughter so I booked a 4 night stay in the only cabin available the week before Labor Day weekend. The check in went somewhat smoothly (Desk person forgot to give me the cabin key) and with park map in hand found our cabin. The cabin consisted of a... More
