Magical. Maduba has something very special about it. The views of the surrounding mountains, the beautiful tall trees and stunning flora, beautiful rooms and a lovely pool to dip into on those hot days!

Mavis and Helen were very helpful.

We stayed there when they were fully booked yet we had our own space and the whole environment was very relaxing.

Be sure to check out the cool coffee shack where you can get a great cup of coffee! They grow and roast their own coffee there!!

Would highly recommend.

An absolute gem. Do not miss this farm stay, and make sure you drink the coffee they grow, process, percolate and make! The food is delicious, and the avocado is to die for. The hotel has super-friendly staff and a safe place with horse riding and swimming options.

Cottages are stylish and very clean. The staff and owners are super friendly.

We stayed for two nights at Mabuda over the Easter weekend, at a self-catering chalet overlooking the mountains.

It's a quiet farm with kind people. There are a few animals: dogs, cats, and horses - the latter can be ridden as an extra activity.

It's close to Hlane National Park, and to the Mozambican border as well.

I highly recommend it!

We started our month in Africa with a short stay in Swaziland. We have friends working near Mpaka who highly recommended Mabuda. Six of us rented three rondevals, with farm breakfast and had a lovely time. Each rondeval has a tiny but workable kitchen (two burner stove, microwave and small fridge), bathroom, big bed with mosquito netting and some have additional sleeping accommodations in a loft. We also each had a lovely veranda with a stunning view. The farm brought us a nice big table and chairs so we could eat as a group outside. Siteki, also called Steggi is a very short drive for needed groceries). The rondevals also share a nice area to barbecue (brai) and a picnic area. Helen Pons, proprietor, can sell you charcoal, wood, insect repellant and farm meat or sausage (depending on supply.) the farm uses spring water, but we brought in large bottles of purchased water for drinking. We found some easy hikes and sound naps were good ways to move through our jet lag. Helen is easy to contact through the form on Mabuda's website, cash payment is expected (Rand is accepted) on departure. Limited internet available on a pay as you go basis. Fans in rooms, no AC.

My husband and I stayed one night at Mabuda with a couple of friends. It was everything we hoped for. The farm is conveniently located for a getaway from Maputo, just over a 2 hour drive. The property itself spans a large area of traditionally managed farmland. It really is a rural idyll! Fields, ponds, gardens, woods...and a stunning view down the valley when you wake up in the morning! We stayed in a four person chalet, which was very comfortable with a modern, spacious bathroom. All facilities in good working order. Cosy beds and plenty of extra blankets for the evening chill. Whilst there, we took advantage a gorgeous guided afternoon horse ride (they accommodate beginners) and absolutely loved roaming the well-mapped paths. The bird-life is spectacular! I would enthusiastically recommend Mabuda to anyone: couples, groups of friends or families. There is also a pool and a well-maintained kids playground.

Spent a thoroughly enjoyable weekend here with my two kids a while back. We stayed in a nice two storey cottage with a fabulous view of the mountains. This is a great place to just relax, unwind, and do an internet detox. We went horseback riding through the pastoral landscapes with one of the farm's local stablehands leading the way. Also took walks (accompanied by the resident dogs, much to the kids delight) on Mabuda's network of paths. Don't miss "Grandpa's Secret Garden", hidden in the bush a bit down the valley. There's also a relatively large outdoors pool, which could do with a bit of cleaning though.

There is no restaurant on the premises, so you either do self-catering or frequent eateries in and around Siteki. Breakfast mainly consisting of farm produce (fresh milk, fruit juice, bread, butter, cheeses, and jam) is brought to the fridge.

I'm sure we will soon leave the hustle and bustle of Maputo behind and return.

My apologies for the pool ,it is normally so clear that you can see the Killer Whale swimming on the bottom ! We look forward to your return. Regards Helen

We work on several projects in Swaziland and Mozambique for more then a year now and stayed at Mabuda farm for three or four times. We travel around and sleep in hotels and lodges. Mabuda farm for us is like homecoming. Well organized, friendly and a beatifull farm to walk and enjoy landscape, agriculture and nature.

Work in such a place almost feels like holiday. Imagine how a real holiday on Mabuda will feel. So, when our work is done, I will go to Mabuda again with my wife for a holiday

We stay at Mabuda Farm often on our way from Durban to Mozambique. Love the place. Always clean and lovely clean ablutions. We usually stay in the budget accommodation as we only stay one night and leave very early in the morning. Have recommended Mabuda Farm to many friends who have also stayed there and loved the place.

Is there ice available?
Answer from Katie M
Norfolk, Virginia4 contributions
There are fridge/freezers available in most units(if not all-the backpackers lodge has a communal kitchen and I believe the campers can use this kitchen as well). So, you can make your own ice in small quantities. Otherwise, you can use the fridge to keep things cool.
