I rarely leave reviews and I somewhat picky when it comes to hotels and cleanliness, especially with COVID. I have stayed in a lot of 4/5 star hotels and this was by far the most memorable hotel stay I have ever had. The hotel was so clean and the front desk workers and the valet were always helpful and friendly. The lodge itself is insanely gorgeous and there is so much to do between the activities on site and off site. We have never been ones to use a hotel pool, but we used the pool here nightly and it was always quiet (though we did go mid week which could have been the reason) and clean. There were plentiful towels and there was constantly someone coming in to empty the dirty towels and straighten up.
The daily hot breakfast in itself was worth reviewing and we looked forward to it each morning. The rooms were very well equipped and we had no issues with noise from other guests or cleanliness of the room itself - everything was perfect. We had no trouble reserving a time for bowling and the ice cream parlor and s’mores were really a nice treat. I highly recommend this hotel for families...it’s worth the price and we are already planning a return trip. If I had to give one negative - there was such a limited and expensive room service menu and that was a bit of a disappointment. We didn't have time to grab lunch one day and one night we wanted to order dinner but the choices were just so limited and pricey. It would have been nice to have some easier and more convenient eating options for lunch/dinner within the hotel. But really that is so minor in comparison to all of the wonderful things we experienced while there. Go visit, you won’t regret it!

The lodge is gorgeous. Our room was both large and well decorated. The beds are comfortable. The kitchen in the unit was excellent. And you have a porch to hang out. Breakfast was delicious (you need to pick it up and eat in your room). Smores in the eve was fun. They also take Covid seriously and the precautions made us feel safe. So all this was really good.
The negative side is that due to Covid they have eliminated a lot of services so the cost/value proposition is a bit off but not too much and these were all things we knew to expect. But what really upset us was that they also cut the lakefront hours due to shuttle driver issues so instead of being open until 6 on certain days they routinely closed at 4. If you go on a hike or morning activity and get back to the hotel, eat lunch and then head out to the lake - you almost have no time before they tell you to queue for the shuttle home.
Also be aware that the lakefront is a mile from the hotel and it's not really an easy walk and there's no parking there so you are largely reliant on the shuttle to get to the lake.
So overall we really liked our stay and would probably come back but given all the restrictions i would say the prices should be lowered to reflect the value offered.

Our family recently returned from Whiteface Lodge and couldn't have been happier with our experience. Our Deluxe One Bedroom Suite was spacious and well appointed, more than sufficient for a family of five. The suite was absolutely spotless, which this tough customer doesn't say often. Kitchen was well stocked, bathrooms were spacious, bedding was sufficient and comfortable and there was more than enough storage for all of our winter and ski gear.

We had breakfast at Kanu each morning (and did takeout one day), service was efficient and the variety was more than enough for us simple breakfast eaters. There is also an a la carte menu and a coffee / hot chocolate bar located outside of Kanu. We dined at Peak 47 one evening and also had drinks at the bar; food was good and standard pub fare and the ambiance was delightful.

Our kids thoroughly enjoyed the pool, hot tub, bowling and ice cream parlor. We skied every day at Whiteface Mountain which is an easy 15-20 minute drive away. It's about a mile / 5 minute drive to downtown so it's easy to grab takeout and eat in the suite. Dinner at The View was very special as well.

Regarding Covid-19, we felt generally very safe. Masks were worn throughout the public areas (except for in the pool and hot tub). There was no housekeeping but everything we needed was quickly delivered to our room. Sanitizing stations were available in elevators and public areas. The massive foyer felt spacious and empty. We never felt crowded.

We are so grateful for the chance to get away and enjoy a change of scenery. We will absolutely be back!

Myself, my wife, 9 yr old son, brother, sister in law and their 7 yr old son and my mom stayed at the lodge for 3 nights to celebrate her 80th birthday. We ate at Kanu the first night. A spectacular space, but a ridiculous amount of time to be served. This happened again on the last night of our stay at Peak 47. The staff they did have were very nice but had the deck stacked against them.

Fully understanding the pressures of covid and its effects on staffing issues, the prices we paid for our rooms and meals are in no way justified. We had relied on the concierge prior to our trip for info on activities that would be a fit for all of us, with a focus on the two young guys with us. It's not the lodge's fault but we should have been made aware of a large construction project in town that made parking and getting around quite a hassle. We should have been given a heads up that the olympic museum and center were under a major renovation making bobsled rides and the full museum not an option.

We had booked a pontoon boat trip because the website said fishing was an option during the trip. Upon booking we were told there is no fishing during the trips. The fishing on the property in a small stocked pond said that fishing equipment was provided. We brought one rod of our own and twice when asking the desk for the lodge's equipment were told fishing was finished for the year.

The complimentary breakfast was not great and not because of the staff. They were friendly but with so little staff, waits for self serve coffee were common as well as clean tables to sit at once other guests had left.

As I said earlier I'm not blind to the struggles of many businesses in unique and challenging times. What I don't appreciate is paying full price for a product that wasn't delivered.

Not that it mattered but worth mentioning. We had some bad weather so wouldn't have been going to the canoe club a short distance from the lodge on one of the afternoons of the weekend. We were told it was closed for a private event. Similar on evening smores that typically would be moved to the clubhouse but there was a wedding. I was scratching my head at a place that is willing to cut services to guests visiting that weren't part of a wedding going on.

We had hoped for a real special weekend together. Unfortunately, we were scrambling to find activities to entertain the kids. During the two meals on the property we were alternating who would leave the table to take the boys to the gameroom as the wait was so long for the food to arrive. Also quite annoying when appetizers and entrees would arrive at the same time while dining at what was billed as and should be premium experiences.

Dear Mike, Thank you for taking the time to detail your experience at the Lodge and in Lake Placid - I only wish you and your family had a better visit. I am very sorry for the challenges at the Resort as we continue to be faced with the reality of these changing times. I met you and your family on Saturday evening when we set up a private s'mores event in our Kanu dining room. I do hope you enjoyed! If the time allows I would love the chance to speak with you directly and discuss your stay further. I can be reached at j.giannino@thewhitefacelodge.com. Me and my wife booked a last minute vacation to Lake Placid in August and were able to find accommodations at White Face Lodge. We checked in around 8:45 pm after a long drive and someone was right at the lobby desk to help us. We had a suite booked in the clubhouse (smaller detached building on property) The elevator required you to scan your room key to get to your room floor and for some reason the scanner wouldn’t work for our keys. Finally a housekeeper doing laundry found us struggling and was able to run back to the lobby to exchange our room keys. It still gave us trouble but she got us up to our room. The elevator was a problem the entire stay and we watched other struggle with it too. We learned from another employee that it was a new system. We let the front desk know multiple times but nothing seemed to ever be done about it. Needless to say we started taking the stairs to avoid the headache.
The rooms were clean, spacious and well stocked with everything you would need.
Continental breakfasts were takeout only due to the pandemic. You had to call and place your order and pick up when it was ready. The food was actually very good and had plenty of different options. The wait wasn’t very long either. It did seem a bit odd that they couldn’t have breakfast in the dining areas yet they still had lunch and dinner there.
The hot tub was always filled with kids despite having a sign that said “adults only”.
The s’mores kits that were provided every night were a nice treat but sometimes they ran out if you didn’t get it early enough.
The “cigar & cognac” lean-to’s were awesome. I went there and called the number to have someone bring out a menu for service. They said someone would be right there to assist me. After 20 minutes of waiting I went to the front desk. I asked if they were still serving cigars due to the pandemic. The lady at the front desk then told me they didn’t offer cigars despite having a cigar menu on their website and a sign hanging in the lean-to offering “cigar service”. She must have been new because she came back after talking with someone and told me the bartender at the restaurant would help me. The cigars were up in the bar area and I was finally able to purchase one. The whole ordeal just made it not worth the time.
Half of the activities in the spa were suspended due to COVID.
It was overpriced considering you couldn’t utilize everything they usually have to offer.
There are nicer options for the money in Lake Placid

We just visited Whiteface Lodge early August 2020. We found the whole experience to be a bit strange. We arrived and there was not a single person there to greet you or even anyone in the lobby in the middle of the day. They eventually came out of the back but it was a very bizarre entrance to this highly rated hotel and felt very cold.

We were extremely disappointed to find that seemingly almost every aspect of the hotel has been changed or eliminated completely due to COVID and yet the price of the rooms were still extremely high. We were excited to have breakfast included, however, upon arriving were told you have to order breakfast and then go pick it up and eat in your room. The breakfast was not high quality and we struggled to understand why we couldn’t eat in the restaurant (socially distanced)as indoor and outdoor dining are allowed in upstate NY. On top of that, the last morning I couldn’t get through to order my breakfast for 20 minutes.

We ate dinner at Kanu and Peak 47 (same menus due to COVID, again, pretty sad). However, the food was pretty good and the servers were great. We also had lunch at the Canoe Club (where you can do water sports) and it was one of the worst meals we’ve had.. ever. They served a tiny burger with a half frozen bun. When I explained this, no one apologized and seemed put off that I would complain.

We did not feel that the service was at all up to par for a resort of this rating. Almost everyone seemed unhappy to be there and it was not a pleasant experience. We understand that things are not going to be the same but it’s very apparent that little creativity, care or thought has been put into the guest experience. There is still
Plenty you can do while staying safe!

The only bright side of our stay were the large and comfortable rooms.

I would highly not suggest this hotel during COVID.

We were impressed by many things about this resort however the cost is not justified.

We stayed in a one bedroom suite which was perfect for us and our 18 month old son. When checking in I inquired if we could choose the location since they weren’t full and the man said No, he didn’t believe we could. I asked if our room had a view of the mountains, he wasn’t sure. He admitted that he was new and wasn’t sure how to change the room if needed - he then handed us our keys.

Our room was very close to the front desk and had a view of the courtyard and stone sculpture which was very pretty. Having a kitchen, jacuzzi tub and extra half bath was wonderful. We also enjoyed the robes, slippers and soaps. The bed was really comfortable and the curtains truly blackout which we appreciated.

The breakfast was expansive however the pancakes provided daily are awful - dry, crumbly and one was hard as a rock. Hard boiled eggs should be provided as the scrambled were not good either. The room breakfast is served in is gorgeous so are were glad to have experienced it. One of the chefs was quite a character and while I understand his attempt at humor I had to cringe when he loudly asked my husband if was going to finish the salmon on his plate because it’s expensive in front of the entire room full of people.

The pool and hot tubs were fantastic, they had a toy box for younger children in the game room - I would have been impressed if they had a toddler playroom. The grounds are beautiful however I expected groomed walking trails.

We both enjoyed spa treatments, my massage and facials were great. My husband also enjoyed his facial however his massage was not good, the therapist talked the entire time and the music wasn’t working. The booking process was not great, the person that booked our treatments didn’t have any knowledge of the options, the Manager did follow up with confirmations and to offer assistance which was much appreciated. During checkout we let them know of the issues and it turned into an hour long process for them to credit us for the massage.

I also made them aware that my son threw a toy under the edge of the bed and when I went to grab it I actually grabbed a used bloody bandaid!!!! There were candy wrappers and all kinds of junk under there, I was so disgusted. The front desk manager didn’t seem shocked and said he would make sure it gets cleaned.

The valet guys were great, front desk staff should be trained at a higher level of customer service

We would return if a deal popped up however our experience was not worth the amount of money we paid.

Recently spent a night at this lodge for a very special occasion. I had made the reservation last month & was never told that the so-called luxury resort” was not offering many of the in-house amenities because of the Covid. What a surprise to find the dining room was closed, the spa & all related services were closed. Even the breakfast offered with our reservation wasn’t possible but we could have a $20 credit to our $600(+taxes,fees,etc) per night bill. In my profession it’s what is called Bait and Switch! A resort of this caliber should adopt full disclosure to all callers when the reservation is made just as all legitimate hotels, restaurants & public places are doing during this pandemic.
So disappointing but we’ll be back to Lake Placid & stay where customer satisfaction is most important.

My wife and I stayed at Whiteface Lodge recently. The ground floor Superior One Bedroom Suite we booked was very comfortable. Breakfast was included in our rate. The suite consisted of a half bathroom, full bathroom, one bedroom and an open kitchen/dinning/living room with gas fireplace. Kitchen is fully stocked. A covered patio with seating is just off the living room via French door. The lodge is well maintained and clean. Covid measures are in place, so no daily room cleaning, spa closed and some other activities are not offered. Check out the lodge web site for details regarding their Covid practices. The indoor/outdoor pool was open. Given the mild weather during our stay it was a welcomed treat. Pool is heated and there are two hot tubes in operation. There are two restaurants on site Kanu and Peak 47. Both are open for diner and lunch. Breakfast is offered for take out only. The food is excellent as were the service staff. Kanu has a beautiful dining room and is more formal. Peak 47 is more casual with a bar and has a cozier atmosphere. There are lots of fireplaces and fire pits throughout the hotel. There is nothing like a nice wood fire during the evening. Smore packages are available at the front desk. Overall had a great time at Whiteface Lodge. All of the staff members were super friendly and eager to take care of any of your needs. I would highly recommend staying here for families or couples alike. Look forward to visiting again soon!
Thank you Whiteface Lodge!

Beautiful and clean resort with plenty of activities. Adirondack decor is lovely for a winter season vacation. Lots of activities for families, couples or groups of friends. Indoor / outdoor pool and hot tubs are fantastic for the kids. We came with our toddler and the room set up with a full kitchen, laundry and big bathtub made our stay very easy. The one disappointment was the food. Unfortunately the food options were a let down with how nice the rest of the resort amenities are. The breakfast buffet serves inedible eggs and there is only one restaurant open Sunday and Mondays which has a small menu. Nothing we ordered was very good. We ended up needing to drive into town for breakfast lunch and dinner after two days of trying to order from the hotel menus.

Thank you for asking about amenities. The Lodge is not on the lake but we have a lake front area called Canoe Club which opens Memorial Day. It sits on Lake Placid, swimmable and we have boats and kayeks available as well as a small lake side grill and bar
